The Lonely Trail, running through the Phleger Estate, a Golden Gate National Recreation Area, makes for a great backdoor entry point into Huddart Park, Woodside, and the Crystal Springs Trail. Starting from Skyline, near the King's Mt Community Center and Purisima OSP parking area, head behind the fire station (site of the annual Kings Mt Air Fair in September) and plunge down the mountain, entering Huddart Park via Raymundo and Miramontes Trails. Once in the Park, you can return to Skyline via the Crystal Springs Trail. Especially when there have been winter rains, Lonely Trail can indeed seem quite lonely, as it is infrequently used (except by locals) although well maintained. This is not a flashy place with great views or soaring redwoods (try Purisima for that), but it makes for a nice walk in the woods.
