Look at the picture of this place, it looks like a complete dump!

Looks can be deceiving, as Phils owns in the pizza department!

They have great thin-crusted pizzas, and with the free litter of soda as their everyday special, how can you beat it? Definitely one of my favorite spots on the Southside of town.

Thank you yelpers!  I tried Phil's based on your reviews.  The pizza was delicious.  I liked the buttery taste and the crispy cheese on the top.  The crust was good, reminded me of Bella Bacinos on Wacker.  I did have trouble finding a clean table to sit on while waiting for my pizza.  I think this is a carryout only deal for me.

As a former overnight worker at Wrigley Field we would order halfway across town for this pizza. There is nothing in the city like it! Nice greasy sausage pizza...incredible!!!!!

I'm not a pizza connoisseur or anything but I really enjoyed the pizza here. I'm a two-year bridgeport resident, and while I've sampled most of the local fare I had never made it out to Phil's Pizza due to it's location in the Great Industrial Wastelands of 35th and the river. So, like Leah P. below, based on the reviews on Yelp I gave it a try.

I was not disappointed. It's a thin crust pizza, but a soft thin crust. Toppings underneath the cheese, and the cheese is topped with spices that give it that extra special... well, Zaz. That's right, zaz.

My family grew up w/ this pizza so hence the 5 stars...

AMAZING pizza if you like thin greasy pizza w/ 2 liter (which is now pepsi, not RC, my only complaint) , excellent sausage just ask for easy sausage, they tend to go a little crazy with it.

I am shocked by the good reviews of Phil's.

Granted, I will be the first to say Bridgeport has a really crappy pizza selection, you will not find me stoop to Phil's level.  Very greasy, cardboard like crust, and bland sauce.  My boyfriend gets this pizza every now and again, usually when drunk, and I generally just look at him in disgust as he eats it.  He swears the Sausage "isn't bad."  That's not good enough for me.

When I want crappy Bridgeport pizza, and Pat's in the south-loop isn't delivering, I resort to Lina's.

I'd rather eat Papa John's.... Yea, take that!

I'm not going to BS you, Phil's is not a 5 Star pizza joint, but seeing as how I drive from Bronzeville back to my old 'hood to pick up Phil's since they don't deliver that far and have been doing so for 3 years now. I was not going to be the first out of 6 to give it less than 5 stars. (Hey I still eat there!)

Of course after 5 years of repetitive use, I can only think that for pizza joints Phil's is a 5 star place. There pizza's great, all the time. They've never been late for my pick up or delivery. And while qite frankly the word "dodgy" is teh olny thing that comes to mind when trying to explain it, unless you live next to Uno, this the best neighborhood piza spot in town.

First let me say right off the bat that I love Phil's but I deducted one star (and was considering another deduction but felt it would be too harsh) because the people that work there are severely challenged.

1)  They get orders wrong and are sometimes just rude...

2)  They don't take credit cards or Visa debit cards (in this age of not carrying around as much pocket monies or just impulse hunger pangs influencing an order urge, this is a minus for them).

For all the times that I have now ordered, their dumbfounded voices when I ask for a thicker crust is just wearing thin.  I have ordered many pizzas from them and have talked to the same women a few times and she's just clueless and borderline rude.  I have stopped ordering from places on that basis alone... so Phil's get with it!

The same woman screwed up my orders a couple of times but for the most part, she shows glimmer of hope.  I'm sure she's been there for years (I'm guessing) but she really should get with it.  It's a turn-off.

The Pizza.. .it really deserves five stars.  I could not understand the one negative review I saw from the woman stating that the sauce was bland and that it was greasy.  I tend to find most pizza is usually greasy in this arena.  So, yes, there is a little but not like Connie's.  The pizza is flavorful and they are very good with the toppings.  I am always satisfied with my pizza (even the one time when the delivery guy apparently must have dropped it as slices were pushed to the side)... it was still damn good.

This pizza beats Connies and even Ricobene's pan crust treat.  Since they moved to 35th street (a plus regardless of any other reviews you have read).  Honestly, I can't think of ordering from anywhere else.

Now, if Phil's were outside of Bridgeport, I would still order.  Jen N., is way off.  This pizza is fantastic!    Ask for a thicker crust and "toasted" and you will be in for a friggin' treat.

I am not a big pizza fan. I prefer gourmet toppings, however I go weak at the knees when the BF hands me a slice of Phil's. It is so well balanced for pizza, the crust is baked to perfection, the sauce not to runny or to moist. the toppings are scattered and are seasoned to my taste buds anyway. All the fancy accessories are not at this joint.

Phil's just recently has relocated to their new 35th Street location. They now have a seating area unlike when they were located on Halsted St.

They do a limited selection of food. But they focus on the foods they know best.

Phil's is very well loved by the neighborhood. Everyone has their favorite following and the Phil's followers are die-hard fans!

I personally like their pizza with easy cheese and easy sausage because I feel it tends to be a little greasy but many people love the pizza for that reason. So if you love greasy pizza, pile on the cheese and sausage. :)

They also have a tasty beef sandwich as well.

Hands down the best pizza in the city. I miss the dive-y old pickup location but the new one is super nice and you can sit down. Plus I think it's the only place where you can still get a free 2-liter of RC cola with a jumbo pizza. RC Cola! That's like, the best thing 1935 has to offer.

Hands down, one of the absolute best.  Thin slices, nice and greasy.  Good pizza, and I can be an absolute snob about this sh-t.  Trust me, if you're in the area even to visit and you feel like pizza, there isn't anything better in the Bridgeport area.

Great Pizza, but be careful you won't be able to stop. I hear they are moving very soon to a location that will allow sit down service.

Phil's is absolutely the best thin crust pizza in the southside.  I live at 37th and Emerald which is right around the corner from phil's and it's become a staple in the community. The only other place that comes even close is Freddies on 31st and Union.  If i were to compare the two, Phil's has better full size pizzas.  They do not sell by the slice like Freddies does.    In my opinion, phil's quality edges out Freddies in terms of it's crust, cheesy-ness and overall flavor.

I am a pizza addict.  And the location of this place is not too far from where I work, so I am in there constantly.  The pizza is out of this world, and well priced as well.  This is one pizzeria I definitely could not live without.  I think this is why I still am working where I do.  So Phil's will be no more than a five minute drive.

did you see the movie "Mystic Pizza" ....  here ya go!
and dont forget the free 2 liter of RC.  RC normally is not a fav of mine but for some reason, I love it with this pizza.  we dont live on the southside anymore...  i sure do miss it.  one of the original southside locations for good italian fast/junk food that did not turn into a chain and lose all its personality.  so Phil's, you stay in that little shack on Halsted St.  Dont change a thing...  Ill be by soon enough...just wont be every Friday anymore :(
