"Bar- B Licious"
[First impression]
Where's the line?!
We beat it! As soon as we got there, the line started building up-- fast! But this place is huge and operates smoothly. The staffs are friendly and open doors for you. With so many great reviews and an extensive menu, it's so hard to choose. You really can't go wrong. It's nice to go with a group of people and have everyone get different things. That way you can share. The portions are plenty so not to worry about not having enough food.
[Suggestion]
*Onion rings are crisp to perfection!
*Have everyone choose different side dishes as well. From macaroni salad to fries to cole slaw-- there's no going wrong here.
[Tip(s)]
*Come just before the lunch hour to beat the line.
Seeing the long line outside was a bit reassuring, but almost turned me away. Almost, because who wants to wait in line forever when you're hungry? But I am glad that I stuck it out. Despite its length, the wait wasn't even bad at all.
This place was not what I expected at all. I didn't expect to go up to pay and pick up my order, but I can see how that makes things so much faster. People are in and out of there with good turn over times.
I ordered the Baby Back Rib Tickler, which comes with 3 ribs, slaw, fries, and two onion rings. I was a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to substitute (which does make sense if they are going for speed, I suppose), as I am not that big of a fan of cole slaw, but when I got my food, I was no longer disappointed.
The problem with braces is that it makes eating certain foods rather difficult. Stuff gets all stuck in them and getting the food out is such a hassle. This place did not give me that problem at all. The meat just falls off the bone, so I could just easily get it off with a fork and knife to cut into braces-friendly portions.
Seriously delicious food, and what a great deal. The fries were heaping and really good with the cajun seasoning at the table. They sort of remind me of thicker cut In-N-Out fries in texture. I really liked the cole slaw, which is saying a lot because I don't normally like it. The onion rings were crunchy and oily deliciousness.
I would give this place 4.5 stars, rounded up. I just wish I could substitute! I've been searching for a good barbecue place and am rather bummed that I would have to come so far to get it, but if I'm ever back in town, I want to come back for sure!
Mmmmmm.....love BBQ in November.
This place is hopping and the ribs certainly are delicious. Tender, fall off the bone. Wish they went easier on the sauce. Two racks, side of potato salad and sweet beans, just a great lunch.
Strange, you order in a line, pay and then they give you a pager. You scramble around to find some seats (which you hope isn't too soiled from the previous customers who munched down their food) and then giddily await the pager to go off. It buzzes and you send someone to grab the grub and chow down.
No fuss, no muss, just tasty BBQ food.
This is my go-to spot for barbeque. The portions are more than enough and then some. It can get pretty busy; the line can easily file right out the door. I don't like that you can't reserve seats before you order but seats usually become available as people order so it's not that much of a problem. The food always comes out in a timely fashion; faster than the time that the cashier usually gives you.
I hate that you have to pick and choose when you go so it won't be as busy as other times. It was definitely an ideal place to go for dinner on Halloween when everyone else was out partying and dressed up like a slutty whatever. There was a minimal-to-nonexistent line and seats were available throughout the night.
Despite the long wait, Phil's is always worth it! Come hungry and you will leave very happy... and with food coma.
Lines are ALWAYS long so get there early and be prepared to wait in line. They are closed on Mondays!
EVERYTHING is great. THE RIBS are amazing! chicken is good! and trying the colossal onion rings!!
Service was on point!
Left dinner gratefully FULL and with a smile!
Let me simply do this... went here to eat with a few buddies on sat. and its now tuesday and im still drooling about it.
i had the FULL baby back ribs dinner... its a lot of food! but i finished it and if you cant, take it home for 2x the joy!
i HIGHLY recommend this place if your in the area
Do they put crack in their delish BBQd food?
Cuz everyone I know is addicted.
Call Dr.Drew cuz this lil' gal needs Phil's BBQ rehab.
This place has really good BBQ. My boyfriend and I went here just this past week and we both had the el toro sandwich. It was our first time ever and we kept changing our minds and adjusting our meals to our liking. Did the person at the register care?! No. Apparently it was his first time working at the register and the manager was helping him out. Both of them were really patient and changed our orders for us so that we got our "bang for the buck".
The portions here are HUGE. The large fries is ridiculously large and my boyfriend and I couldn't finish it! The sandwiches were overflowing with savory meat and I had to take some of the tri tip home.
The service was excellent. The bussers that come around are very attentive to keeping the place looking clean and they always drop by with more napkins, hand wipes, and toothpicks.
Great food. Great service. What else can I ask for?
Oh, and don't forget to come early unless you want to be waiting in a ridiculously long line that wraps you around the building.
I'm not a big meat eater.. so it took me a few years after living in San Diego to try Phil's BBQ. Stood in line for over an hour and ran around the restaurant for a place to sit for another 15 min.
Yes the ribs are really good. The bbq sauce is delicious and thier onion rings are extra crunchy. this restaurant is obviously popular for a reason and definately one of the must go places in san diego.. but for the 1.5 hour wait and price? minus 1 star for me!
Can I get a BBQ Amen??????????? I want to be baptized in Phil's BBQ sauce it's that good. I had the beef and chicken combo where you get a little bit of moo and cluck with 2 sides (I picked the fresh cut fries and the coleslaw) for a decent price if i do say so. The size of my plate was like a trough when it came out!!! I had two large beef ribs, chunks of boneless chicken and fries and slaw. So good I wanted to hump the chefs leg.My friend didn't think I could eat the whole thing but I did....like a champion!!!!!! Try it!
hi phil,
i just want to tell you that it's been 3 days and i am still thinking of you. it sucks that we have to have a long distance relationship knowing that you're in san diego and i'm in san jose. :( please come to san jose!!

This place is mecca for BBQ lovers.
It is without a doubt the best BBQ I have ever had.
I hate to admit this, but my wife and I live over a 100 miles away and we have made the 200 mile round trip drive on a Saturday afternoon just to eat there. When you eat there you'll understand.
my bf's dad has him drive for 2 hours each way to deliver the ribs whenever he gets a craving...so i had to check it out if they really are that good.
we encountered a 15 min wait at 7pm on a humpday.
not too bad since you can drool over the choices on the menus posted outside. once inside, you can view the dishes on the tv screen.
i got the rib tickler with 2 onion rings, 3 small ribs, a load of fries, and a scoop of slaw.
the rings were slick from being deep fried - i recommend eating this first while it's hot and you won't have time to regret it.
as for the ribs: they were shorter than the ones in the regular order
+ 1 had barely any meat (end piece?), the other 2 were good and juicy.
the fries were addictive and the slaw was tasty.
i washed it down with some sangria - it was tasty but on the weak side so i'll ask for light on the ice next time or get a unlimited refill soda or beer instead.
my bf had the ribs with chicken and corn on the cob. i traded most of my fries for the corn and slathered it with butter. yum!
we were both pretty full by the end and packed the chicken in a box before hitting the theatres.
and the verdict? yes, they really are that good!
I think Yogi Berra says it best when describing this place, "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded." Seriously though, this place has a line that winds all the way down the block at any given meal time. So I went there for some dinner and all my friends told me how great the food was so I was super excited. They made it sounds like it was the king of barbecues on the entire planet (outside the South). Because of this, I figured I would hold them to a higher standard during my review process since they have such an established reputation to live up to. I also wanted to give an honest objective review and not just jump on the band wagon of, "well everybody likes it so I should too." That's called social conformity people! Don't fall for it!
So first off, there was the line, ugh! I'm starving! No problem, we'll just go to the bar and order from there. We get to the bar and sit at a booth and get a menu. Yea, we're clever.... NOT! Apparently you have to actually be sitting at the bar to order food. This was told to us like we were 6-year-old children and like we had already misbehaved or something. Ok, so now what? I lost my place in the super looooooong line. Ah ha! But I'm even more clever! I decided to call them and make a to-go order. Yes, people, this is what you have to do unless you want to wait forever. If you go into the bar and can't sit at the bar, call in, then go pay at the to-go line (super duper short) and then get a buzzer thing so you can go pick up your order when its ready.
I guess the only reason they didn't get 4 stars is the fact that it is soooo hyped but wasn't as amazing as the hype leads you to believe. And the crowds and chaos just makes it a very unpleasant dining experience. Especially when they have the place set up like a communist soup kitchen and the servers in the bar are so Gestapo about their rules. The food was great though. I got the Chickless and baby back ribs combo - FAB--U---LOUS! The sauce was a little too tangy but still pretty awesome. And the coleslaw tasted really good - not like the usual preservative-y tasting kind that seems to be served everywhere else in town. But if this place wasn't so crowded, I'd probably really like it and add a star or two to my review.
I've always wanted to be review #1040. Now is finally my chance!
Pork Ribs -- awesome. Half Rack (6-7 bones) with two small sides (beans and slaw) was the perfect amount for me, and I would say most people. = $12.95
They have beef ribs and chicken too, which I'm sure are excellent.
1 star off for not having corn bread. Say WHAT?! Also, I'm a fan of a spicier bbq sauce, but it is still so delicious. Lines can be long, but service is fast.
Come hungry!
You know whats one of the things that suck when you make ribs yourself or order it at a sit down restaurant: the wait. Well at Phil's, all you have to do is wait in line, order, and the food comes out in about 5 minutes. The baby back ribs are juicy, fall of the bone tender, and covered in BBQ sauce and have a great pork flavor throughout, but it's not charred, which I like my bbq to be like. The prices are average. I think the sides are great also. You get fresh corn if your order corn. Other sides, I've had are the onion rings, potato salad, and baked potato. I heard the line can wrap around the building, but I've never had to wait that long. No alcohol in the general restaurant, just in the small bar area.
Pork Heaven! I LOVE Phil's. In fact, one of the few things that is memorable about the three years I lived in San Diego was Phil's. The pork ribs are show stoppers, and I would recommend just diving in and splurging on a full order of the ribs. The mouth watering meat is tender and falls right off the bone. It is slathered in spicy and sweet BBQ, and there is even some honey in there. I couldn't imagine a better set of ribs. They would convert even the most stubborn of vegans into a meat eater and become a true believer!
Equally delicious are the yummy fresh cut fries. I usually get a double order of that, since you get two side options with the full order. I don't particularly care for the other side accouterments, but some friends of mine like the beans. I, personally, do not care for them.
I would, however, recommend steering clear of the beef ribs. Honestly, there is nothing to write home about them. Too much bone, not enough meat, and fatty without all the delightful flavor the pork brings! Also, the line can be long, if ordering take away, make sure to call in advance. But any negatives are quickly swept away by it's powerhouse pork ribs.
Phil's is awesome!
Believe the hype.
This is surely the best BBQ in town, arguable best BBQ this side of I-35. Yes, if you come here during popular eating times, you will wait. A while. But you will be rewarded my friend with all the barbecuey goodness your little mind can handle. Strap in taste buds, things are about to real.
I am a fan of the quarter chicken and quarter rib combo with the steamed veggies, its the only way to get a good helping of meat and not walk away feeling like you just swallowed a volkswagen.
Eat at Phil's.
Large plates, yummy ribs, and a cheap price. What else can you ask for?
I love Phil's BBQ even with the long wait. It's totally worth it! A must-go place while you are in SD!
VERY VERY good if you like comfort food . Their ribs are simply amazing as well as their huge onion rings!
I love this place!
This place is insane - insanely busy. We came in the early evening on a weekend and the line went around the corner that has that made up (?) sign that says from this point it's 21 min and 42 sec till you get to order. Anyways I think the line almost made it to the other corner. Anyways we decided to just call in our order and wait 15 minutes instead of in that long line. 15 minutes later, we still had to wait in a little bit of a line to pay and then it took like 10 minutes to bag the order. They say they don't place and pack your food till after you pay so that it's more "fresh." They even gave us one of those pagers to let you know after you've paid that you can pick up your food at the counter. And there's a sign that you can't eat take-out at the restaurant but I'm sure tons of people still do it. If you do eat there, the deal is you order and I think they give number so that you food can be delivered. Then you go find a table. There's a no saving tables policy so I really hope they enforce that. But from the reviews, I don't think people have too much trouble finding seats after they order. Before we left, we picked up plastic bibs, utensils, napkins, and condiments. It's a nice spread.
So we got the chicken and ribs combo. It came with your choice of beef or baby back ribs, a quarter of a chicken or chickless, which are like grilled chicken nuggets, and 2 small sides or a large side. Since there were 2 of us, we got try one of everything. For the sides we opted for french fries, macaroni salad, and potato salad. I think I liked the baby back ribs over the beef. You get a larger portion of beef ribs but the baby backs absorb the sauce better and is more tender and smokier in flavor. Either way, it still works out to a quarter of a slab. The chicken is chicken. The nuggets are a little dry. But in terms of quantity, it's about the same. Both the macaroni and potato salads were a bit plain. And when they say small sides, it's like a shallow plate the size of your palm. The french fries were gross. A word of advice, don't get them to go because they will become soggy and inedible by the time you get home. I was disappointed because my friend had said they were fantastic when she had them at the restaurant before. Each combo set us back like 12 bucks but that's a good deal for all that food. Not the best BBQ restaurant ever but still pretty decent. Now if only they could get rid of the ridiculous line, I would be more of a regular customer.
Hey San Diego BBQ lovers, this is THE spot!
45 minute wait out the door on a Saturday night but it's worth it! I ordered "Best of Both" with half order of ribs and chicken. Love the tenderness, love the spicy barbecue sauce. There is also a full bar and sports section divided off from the restaurant. Friendly service all around and southern hospitality! Never disappointed when coming here.
Heads UP: CLOSED ON MONDAYS!! (Went on a Monday before and was HURT!)
Go early! My girlfriend and I already had to line up outside 30 mins before it opened on a Sunday morning.
Every positive review I've read here is true. The pork ribs was the best!
I'm not even sure if this is a con but be prepared to leave smelling like smoked BBQ. :)
This place is BOMMBBB. I'm down to wait in that long line any day for their baby back ribs. The meat just falls off the bone and the sauce is pretty yummy too. It taste a little different than what I'm used to, but it's still good.
The wait on a Saturday night?
Close to an hour, it seemed.
Why is it every location I go to in San Diego had a prerequisite of a minimum of an hour long wait?!
With the insistence from my cousin, I waited...and waited...and waited.
To Phil's defense, the line did move rather quickly BUT because of my hungry stomach growling in retaliation, the wait seemed unbearable. After what seemed like eternity, we finally arrived to the front of the line.
The set up was your basic cafeteria style restaurant.
1) You order + pay
2) You grab your designated pager
3) Pick a spot to grub
4) When your food is ready, your pager will ring!
5) EAT!!
Between my cousin and I, we got the "Full Baby Back Rib Dinner" + corn on cob + macaroni salad + side salad.
At first glance, the amount of food seemed inadequate for my cousin AKA garbage disposal and I, the food-eating savage. Luckily, a waiter happened to stop by and we were able to order - on the spot - another (BIG) serving of macaroni salad.
I decided to be a good girl and filled myself up with fresh mixed greens before tackling the big and heavy items on my plate. Damn, why did I do that?
The ribs were MIND BLOWING.
Soft, juicy, moist, fall-off-the-bone-can't-get-enough, flavorful and the list goes on.
The macaroni salad was bomblicious. It had the right amount of mayo and it complimented the sweet and tangy ribs perfectly. Add hot sauce into the equation and you just got yourself the best-darn-BBQ- that-got-your-lips-smackin-in-anticipation-for-you r-next-trip-out to-San-Diego-for-these-AMAZING-life-changing-ribs.
OK, I don't know about "life changing" but they were good. reallllly good.
I only wish they could set up shop in SF and add MAC & CHEESE to their menu!
*hint hint*
Don't know what the fuss is about! The food is good, but to have lnes out the door is not reaity! I ordered the rib tickler, with 3 pork ribs , slaw, fries and 2 onion rings. None of the ribs were more than 3 inches long and barely had any meat on it. I thik they just throw the ends for this item. My BF ordered the el toro, which had quite a bit of beef on it and had good taste. We also tried the beef rib sample and it was good in flavor, but quite tough. Beef ribs should still fall off the bone and be cooked til tender. Will probably try this place again and order something else.
I now give Phil's 4 stars. The owner has emailed me back twice to ensure that my next visit will be more satisfactory. That is a rare occurrence nowadays as everyone is out to make a buck, so his gesture is greatly appreciated that he took the time to improve my experience. I'm sure he doesn't need my business, but still wants to and takes the time to satisfy each and every customer! Hats off to Fred the owner! I now have a better idea of why this place is so popular and worth the wait!
Attention Yelpers! - Phil's BBQ will be coming to San Marcos is 2010!!!

5 Stars for the most addicting BBQ I have ever had....
It was my second visit here with Phil's. It was a late evening on a Friday and wifey was having a craving for some BBQ food! Where else should we go? We allowed our stomachs to guide us here again.
For locals, the best time to come here to avoid the lines is very late. We strolled right in and anticipated on what to try this time around. I went for the pork ribs and 1/4 chicken combo with french fries and macaroni salad. Wifey went for the short ribs, but I knew she would be biting off my plate.
In addition, we couldn't resist not going with the onion rings. The buttermilk here is to die for. I'd swear if I was Michael Jackson and the doctor ran out of "milk of amnesia", then allow Dr. Phil here to inject with with that buttermilk. Hmmmmmmmmm...
Our service was excellent. Due to the fact there wasn't that many people around they were even super nice and answered our questions. We enjoyed the late night dinner and shared among our plates back and forth.
Just about when we were finishing up, one of the managers started passing out pulled pork samples. However this wasn't no sample. It was a plate of freshly cooked pork. Hot and steamy, we elected to take it home with us.
One of the employees asked if we needed TO GO containers. Please, we appreciate it. He commented that it was his idea to pass off these freebies of food since it breaks his heart on the amount of food that is wasted in the evening.
The fat: To avoid the rush, come here after the rush!
The skinny: Hang around in the wee hours...you may leave home with another snack!

I said I would write an update when I finally had their pulled pork sammie. It's called The Brougham....not sure what that means, but who the hell cares! It's THE best pulled pork I've had so far anywhere and again, I'm a Los Angeles food snob.
Deelish, smoky, crusty on the ends if you're lucky enough to get them, and the roll it comes on...wow. I usually am disappointed in most breads I get in restaurants...who wants mushy, soft rolls, yuck. Gimmie some texture baby. This one is lightly toasted, a bit chewy and I just eat all of it.
There is enough pork on this to actually make two sammies if you are watching your waistline..but why the hell are you eating here if you're watching your waistline...geesh.
It comes with coleslaw on it, which I'm sure is good...if you like coleslaw which I don't, so I tell them to leave it off. I actually think I like this sandwich more than their ribs which is hard to believe for this bone freak. But the pulled pork is cheaper than ordering ribs and you get totally filled up. Like $6.50, but nothing comes with it. Another $1.50 for a gigantic order of their very good fries.
Ok Phils...you get a bit of redemption from me since I'm not crazy about your sauce. Your Brougham has won this BBQ lover over!!

Very good, but not the best I've had for sure. Maybe it is for San Diego, but not for this LA/BBQ… Read more »
Just a great place all-around...I've been coming here for the last few years. It's one of the few places in San Diego that take tremendous pride in their food, and the quality definitely shows. The service is good, the food is good, and the experience is complete. Even though the line might be long on weekends, you won't be disappointed with the food.
Since it's BBQ, you have to order the ribs...personally I prefer the baby back ribs to the beef ribs, but that's open to decision. The BBQ chicken was good also, and it wasn't too dry like most places I've been to.
My favorite at Phil's has to be the onion rings though...best onion rings I've had in a long time...so I get them every time I come here.
Well-deserving of 5 stars.
"In search for the perfect ribs" and Phil's BBQ (Phil's) came on top. I love ribs and I love Phil's. I always make it my business to visit Phil's every time I go down to San Diego. It's really hard to find a good bbq place in OC since there are a lot of independent bbq joint and bbq chains (Lucille's, beach pit, etc.). I am still in search for the perfect ribs in OC, but for now, I've found my Phil's ^_^
Anytime I come to Phil's, there's typically a line form outside of the restaurant. I really like the policy of no food no seat. The waiters will direct you to order the food and then you can find your seat. Eventhough it's always crowded and long line on the outside of the restaurant, I never find any problem finding seats for 4, 6, 8, or even 10 people. So their policy no food no seat (simplified terms ^_^) works for me.
I always get the full rack bbq ribs while my wife would get the chicken. The meat is very tender and just fall out of the bone. The sauce is very thick and I can taste the BBQ spices. Some people think it's a bit to strong for their taste. But I think it's the perfect compliment to their sweet and tender meat.
So far, I'm still searching for the best ribs in OC. For now, Phil's still the best place to go.
On a recent trip to San Diego, I stopped by this place based on the yelp reviews. Admittedly, I am baffled by all the high scoring reviews. The place is ok. Nothing special. And yeah, I had the ribs.
Giving this place 5 stars is the equivalent of saying "The Olive Garden" is fine Italian dining. NUTS!
EDIT: I received a nice note from one of the owners of Phil's BBQ. He is genuinely interested in making sure the customer has a great experience here. This should be applauded. We need more good guys like Fred that strive for perfection.
I admit, I was a bit too harsh on the joint. I have no issues with them. I just think the people of San Diego in general have fried their brains lying on the beach of Coronado.
Why did my review for Phil's from a few months ago get erased? Here goes another review.. probably not my best review because it's the 2nd one I'm writing.
EDIT: For some reason my review got moved here: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
PROS:
Great Food, Friendly Staff, Good amount of parking!
CONS:
You feel like you need to get wheeled out!
SECRET TIP: Their bread is delicious and fluffy but they don't give it to unless you ask...but when you ask, they are happy to give you a bun.. and Go early, the line wraps around the entire restaurant!
FINAL ANSWER: GO!! and Get the BEEF ribs! YUmmmmm!
OPENED FOR AN HOUR AND THE LINE IS OUT THE DOOR! THIS PLACE IS HUGE AND WE BARELY FOUND SEATING!
Pros:
-They have small portions (ribs, fries, slaw, onion rings) for under $7. I didn't/couldn't finish my food!
-Great service. If it's your first time, they can totally tell. They have a lady sitting in between the lines making small talk and helping you through the process.
-Self serve but you have people walking around to help you with anything you need (ALFREDO IS THE BEST! ONE OF THE MOST PLEASANT EXPERIENCES I'VE EVER HAD. VERY HUMBLE.)
-The rib meat itself had a great smoke aroma with other spices. I didn't care too much for the sauce. I rubbed it off. I'm a big fan of dry rub myself and don't like the sauced up type of bbq (only for side dipping). The sauce is a tangy sweet type of cause and boy does it stick to your fingers.
Cons:
-None that I have found except for my sauce preference.
YUMMMMMMMMMMM!
I got the Beefy Rib Tickler. Just the right amount for me. The beef rib was fall off the bone wonderful. The slaw was creamy and delicious. The fries and onion rings could of been more crispy but that is just my preference. And the BBQ sauce is soo delish. Tangy and sweet! My leftovers were great the next day! Can't wait to go back.
Phil's BBQ is spectacular whether you live in Texas, Memphis, North Carolina, Kansas City, or any other location that snobbishly puts forth the notion that BBQ is a purely regional cuisine. While it is true that I have had better BBQ is many of the aforementioned places, I have also had plenty worse BBQ in all of those locations as well. So I'm going to give Phil's a relatively healthy 4 star rating.
Let's get to the important part of the review. Phil's serves impressively large BBQ beef ribs. While I will readily note that this is not a common order from me (I prefer pork ribs), I did find that the enormous ribs at Phil's were suprisingly tender and flavorful. The sides at Phil's, however, could use some work. None of our sides necessarily stood out as either good or bad, but part of that was due to our surprise at finding good BBQ close to the California beach.
If you are looking for something somewhat different on your next trip to San Diego, you might want to stop by this local institution that clearly has gained an appreciable amount of notoriety (970 Yelp reviews and counting!).
Long lines but its worth it. Great food. Don't eat pork so they offer great beef ribs. Really recommend this place.
My first time at Phil's was at their old location and my friend's and I waited 2 hours for carry out! I was so hungry and mad at the wait that I just inhaled my food. I didn't really savored it and thought it was okay BBQ.
But there are moments when I just crave BBQ. Whenever I'm in Texas, all I ask for is to eat BBQ. And I get my yummy BBQ. But I'm in San Diego, not Texas, so I decided to try Phil's again.
This time I was smart and called in my order at their new location. It was crazy when I arrived! The line just to sit down on a Sunday 2pm was already at a 45 minutes wait but I was able to bypass it since I called in. I waited until I was allowed to pay and watched as they packed my food on the spot. Great and friendly service. It took at most 10 minutes.
I ordered the ribs and chicken. The ribs were slow cooked, tender, falling off the bone delicious. The chicken was good but I loved the ribs more. The BBQ sauce is on the sweet side but it was tangy and finger licking delicious. The beans were good too - it was a little sweet but peppery. This is solid BBQ.
I'm feeling a little guilty about some of the negativity in my recent reviews, so I thought I'd re-visit Phil's BBQ for an easy five stars.
I have lots of memories of Phil's BBQ, good memories that have been replaced with even better ones. I used to have a regular BBQ partner, and then I didn't, and now I do again! Sweet! Somebody who can put away a massive rack of delicious ribs, somebody to share my love for a side of bomb baked beans and fries slathered in magical BBQ sauce, somebody to entertain me while waiting in the line that sometimes not only stretches out the door, but down the street. I don't know how they do it, but the line really does move quickly, I assure you.
There are some places filled with memories that you just can't go anymore, but Phil's is not one of them, for my love for Phil's Ribs and Chickless still burns strong.
