I love this spa. Friendly staff, excellent services. I have had several massages here and there is not a therapist that I have not liked. They all know when to talk, when to let you just relax in silence, and they are all excellent at finding just the right pressure.
The waxers here are a mixed bag. I have had at least one tell me that brows are all wrong and then another tell me that they are the perfect shape. I suppose it is objective, but it seemed odd to me that they would have such different ideas about such things. This is the only place in Indy that uses wax that I am not allergic to, so for that I go back for my brow wax work.
Sometimes making an appointment can be tough as this place is always very busy.
At least once a year I indulge in a massage at Philipes (thanks to my husband and kids and my annual Mother's Day gift card!)
At Philipes, be prepared to be pampered. Of course! It's a spa! Once you arrive for your appointment, you'll be asked if you'd like a glass of cold water. Take it. It's good for helping wash out the toxins after a massage. I don't pretend to know why, but it supposedly does. Or, just drink it cause it's nice and cold.
If you're here for a massage, you'll head back to the locker room, where you'll find lockers with fun names such as Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Madonna, etc. (I don't know what the lockers look like in the dude locker room. Sorry!) Pick one and strip down (you can leave your undies on if you'd like), put on the incredible robe and slilppers, and head to the Relaxation Room, where you can, um, relax until your therapist is ready to get you.
You'll then head to a dark room for your massage. No, it's not PITCH BLACK. Of course you can see what is going on. But who wants to lie there with eyes open? Relax, already!
Once you're finished with your massage, you'll head back to the relaxation room to sip water if you'd like, or you can head back to the locker room. There, you can shower if you'd like, and take advantage of some of the great products they have set out for you to test. Beware: You'll fall in love with all the products at Philipes, and you'll probably drop a few more ($50-plus if you're me) on something that smells really, really yummy.
Of course, there are other services than massage. You can get makeup, hair or nails done, get a facial, or get that unibrow under control. And this place isn't just for chicks. There are dudes there every time I've gone.
Hint to dudes: This makes an awesome gift for your loved ones. Moms, girlfriends, boyfriends, etc.
Hint to the gals: This makes a perfect gift for moms-to-be (they offer prenatal massage!), new moms, girlfriends, boyfriends, moms, etc.
If you need a gift: Try the ice cream bathtub scoops. They look so much like real ice cream scoops and smell so incredible.
