10 reviews for Philadelphia Runner
by far the best running store in Philly. Staff is extremely knowledgeable, great prices and insane selection - no I do not work there.
definitely the spot if you are looking to get into running and are unsure of what sort of shoe you should be wearing
I love my pair of Nike Free's perhaps a bit too much. And, like everything else in life, when you love too deeply you are bound to get hurt.
As soon as the weather got really nice a couple weeks ago, they went into very heavy rotation verging on everyday use. (Bad judgment, I know.) I run about 35 miles per week. In a shoe like the Free, which has very little cushioning, that's destined to turn into an impact injury. So the middle of last week I notice that every time I put weight on my right heel, I feel like I've just experienced falanga in a Turkish prison.
On a fellow runner's advice, I headed to Philadelphia Runner. A helpful staff member spotted my problem immediately: bruised heel. On his advice, I purchased heel pads and I've been resting. Not being able to get my miles in is driving me crazy but I'm already feeling much better.
I'll definitely be returning to Philadelphia Runner in the future.
I am a total novice with running and also have flat feet, so I thought if any store in the area would know what they're talking about on this subject it would be Philadelphia Runner. Turns out I was right! The sales person was very knowledgeable and helpful; she watched me walk and immediately told me what type of shoe I need. She then gave me three options to choose from, which was great since there are like 100 different shoes in the store.
Finally, and most importantly, the one she recommended for me was NOT the most expensive pair, but rather, the one she felt were best for my feet. They felt great, and I walked out of there spending less money than I thought I was going to.
Great store. I suppose if you really know what to look for, you can probably find a better deal elsewhere, but for the novice like me, this is store is fantastic.
These guys (and girls) know their stuff. They will help you find the right shoe, whether you are training for a marathon or simply want to hit the treadmill a few times each week. Incidentally, during one visit, Cole Hamels was there buying a pair of shoes. He has unusually large feet, but I'm sure that they were able to find suitable kicks for him. (On an unrelated note, Hamels happened to be pitching that evening. The fact that he was more focused on buying running shoes than winning ball games may account for some of his poor performances this year. Let's get 'em next year Cole!!)
Well, after dealing with a store salesman and then his manager, I am totally appalled at how I was just treated. The salesperson didn't want to give me any information about their products over the phone and just insisted that I come in the store for myself. The manager was even less helpful and way more skilled in saying ____-off since she was sure I would no longer come in the store. She (Kate) took personal satisfaction in treating me like garbage. By far, the worst customer service I have had in a long time. She acted like she was some pretty hot Sh__ the way she was talking to me as if she had an audience she was performing to. Disgusting.....
Great little running store. I came in to buy a pair of insoles. The saleswoman got me just what I need quickly and with a smile. You can always tell a running shop that employs actual runners. You won't get any great bargains here but you will get great service from a friendly, knowledgeable staff.
I got my first pair of big girl running shoes here. I wasn't entirely sure what I was looking for or what kind of shoe was best for my running gait but alas I did not need to know anything! The staff was super helpful and after strutting my stuff up and down the store they were able to point me in the right direction. The prices are steap but the quality and service more than make up for it. Also, don't be shy if there is someone else in the store with you. I got some great pointers and was even given a great suggestion on some products by another woman in the store. More often than not, the people shopping here are equally knowledgable about their love for running and are a valid resource for your questions. As a newbie to the running game (or recent returner after a 12 year hiatus) this place had both the people and products I needed to get started.
First, a disclosure: I went to college with the owners, but didn't get to know them until I competed in (and won) the Philebrity Fit Club challenge in the spring and summer of 2006. Their sponsorship and encouragement went a long way to me losing weight and getting back in shape.
There's no better place to buy a pair (or several pair) of running shoes than Philly Runner. Their approach to selling a pair of shoes is novel: it's all about fit, not about brand. I find that very refreshing as both a runner and a consumer.
Next time you need a pair of sneakers, consider visiting Philly Runner. They won't steer you wrong.
As Susan said, this staff sho' is friendly. Even if you're a novice runner, such as myself, Philly Runner has a great selection of cool, colorful, and expensive sneaks. They also have tons of spandex... if that's your thing.
Great place to window shop and browse... and soon, when I'm better committed to my aerobic regiment, they'll pocket much more of my money.
The friendly staff at PR helped me select the perfect running shoes for my injury, and within my price range. They watched me walk in bare feet and helped identify my running issues and matched the shoe to it--this was really helpful and my running pain eased because I was finally in the proper shoe! New and experienced runners alike will enjoy Philadelphia Runner.
