An Old Style Pharmacy

I love Pharmaca. I've always received sound advice at this store. The pharmacist is incredibly helpful giving me some good advice on medications for my dog and the staff in the front are incredible-giving great advice on skin care. These people know their stuff and are always up to date with the best knowledge and references on harmful ingredients. Huge encyclopedia of what's worked for customers and what hasn't. Really take the time to talk to people. Absolutely incredible service of the type that isn't found anymore.
Pearl Street location much better service wise than the North Boulder/Ideal Market location.
Good events-like cholesterol screenings of mini facials. I love Pharmaca.

I like this place. I love the feel of it and the staff is always super friendly and nice. I like the products there and I always feel like I'm shopping local, even though its a chain. Their knowledge and attention to detail is rare!

Last summer pimples were popping up on my face like it was the night before my junior prom... I couldn't stand to look at my face and so I ventured over to Pharmaca hoping to find some magic alternative supplement to make my skin look like an organic baby's tushi.

Pharmaca staff are always helping other customers... Not that they don't have time for you... but it is kind of like the line at the pharmacy... You have to respect people's privacy... So just stand about 6-feet away from them and pretend to be looking at the natural hair remedies... As soon as the woman is done helping the customer find a natural formula for pain in her right tushi cheek, pounce, or the person beside you will.

So, when I got my turn I told the expert about my massive acne problem... She asked me if I was eating peanut butter?  "Funny you say that, for the past two months I have been addicted to peanut butter... I like to eat it right after to gym and give myself some protein and a nice kick."  I said with a smile.  She wasn't smiling.  I guess my body cant process peanut butter very well and my body was trying to detoxify it out somehow...  I quit peanut butter the next day.

The expert Pharmaca woman gave me a natural formula for hair, skin, and nails that cost me a whopping $36... but days later the pimples started to retract and I felt this strange sensation to go back to Pharmaca and just follow this women around all day... What other secrets does she know.... I now go to Pharmaca for new lotions organic and metal-free deodorants, and free health information.

Start at Pharmaaca for all of your health questions and needs... Free health advice, light crowds, and fun things to play with and read.  Just bring your credit card... Pharmaca can add up fast.

* Star one is friendly and helpful staff
** Star two is for having health and beauty items that I can test and roll around in
*** Well read star three is for having health magazines and books, and even local books and books by staff themselves... Way to support!
**** Our fourth and final star is helping me get rid of my mean peanut butter pimple fest... Now I eat Almond butter!

Our last star was unfortunately taken away due to somewhat high prices, not the best hours, and the Pearl street location has no free parking... Unless you park a couple blocks away.

Man, this place is dangerous!
If you are a sucker for the following things (as I am), its best not to come in here with a credit card:

1. Lotions, potions, and all things smelly for the skin/hair
2. Things that are "naturally" good for your skin and hair, as opposed to petroleum by-products
3. Trying herbal remedies before trying knock-you-on-your-ass traditional remedies, but still having both options available
4. Dr. Hauschka products
5. Friendly, knowledgeable staff that are more than willing to help with your questions about all of the above
6. A whole aisle of snacks and treats that you can convince yourself are healthy!

This place is truly integrative, but somewhat pricey...
A gem of a pharmacy!

I dig Pharmaca, though, as opposed to restaurants and clubs, it's a a functional relationship. So, I'm not really going to gush, except to say that they've always filled my scripts and provided me with whatever I need.

It's a pharmacy. What more could you ask for?

My first time there was pretty comical. I got a case of Bell's Palsy, and the left side of my face was temporarily paralyzed. I was at the hospital across the street from the north Boulder Pharmaca. After being seen, they sent me across the street to pick up a script for steroids (no, not those kind of steroids).

Why was this funny? Due to the paralysis, my left eyelid was stuck open, and if not accounted for could cause blindness. So, they'd affixed an eye patch over my left eye. I stumbled into Pharmaca trying to walk a straight line with one eye, but very nearly took out everything in the store! I was the proverbial bull in the china shop.

And god help you if you were on the road during that drive home!

Pharmaca is a weird phenomenon: it is as if Vitamin Cottage had an affair with not only the post office, but also Wal-greens. The love-child of such an affair turns out to be Pharmaca.

This store is playing it up to several audiences, first it acts a sort of natural alternative to Wal-green type stores while still having a pharmacy in it. Second, it is also acting like a convenient store; it doesn't limit itself to just natural and organic, but also has standard goods as well, convenience store style (limited selection, but right there). They also had a post-office section, which was pretty damn weird...but useful.

So all and all, a highly useful store with helpful staff with somewhat pricey products.

I love Pharmaca! I'm so glad that they're a chain, so I can always try to be near one. I always buy their French-milled soaps (Pre De Provence is a big favorite of mine) and I like that they have travel sizes of lots of natural products (so I can try small sizes before I buy). I just like to browse around for hours on end, too. It's always a calm environment in there. I'm a huge fan!

I really like this store and the staff is very friendly but I did have some bad experience with the staff.  Not really a big deal but overall it's a nice place to go.  However I am also kind of hesitant about the pharmacy, there is a nice pharmacist but there is also a very loud and scary one.  I saw someone asking him a question and he was argumentative and almost like he was screaming.  The person that was on the receiving end was trying to listen and didn't react to this loud screaming pharmacist so he probably didn't mind.  I also had a friend who tried to get her asthma prescription filled and the pharmacist was not helpful at all.  He didn't even want to try to help her because she used up her insurance or something.  After much coaxing and encouragement she called again and he tried again and got it filled.  A pharmacist should do everything in their power to help people and not be defeated over insurance.  Also she has asthma, it's a serious condition to reject her request over insurance.  What is even more annoying is that he managed to get it filled anyway.  So I don't know why he had to be so difficult about it.  I don' t know which pharmacist it was but I don't have a strong positive feeling about the pharmacy.  I do like the store but the one on Broadway has more items.  It's a nice store to visit though while you're on Pearl St and there is another nice pharmacist there so it's not a total loss.  The store manager is very friendly too.
