Review from Erika K.
Poway, CA
My dog's claw ripped out while he was playing, and his paw was bleeding profusely. So, I brought him to ER4Pets.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the vet seemed very knowledgeable and discussed with me the options I can take, as well as the cost breakdown.
They treated my dog in a very quick and thorough manner, and I thought the charges were very reasonable (may be even cheaper than my regular vet).
They seemed to really care about the animals that come in (a couple came in while I was there).
I felt very positive and reassured after the visit, as they gave me detailed instructions on how to care for my dog for the next few days.
I would definitely go back. -

I will never take my dog back here! We had been here before and had OK experiences but after the last time I am done. I took him in on a Monday because his regular vet could not get him in, and his ongoing paw problem seemed to be getting worse. The vet look at him for about 1 minute and said that he probably had a tumor in his paw and wanted to remove his toe, they even gave a quote to do the surgery. I was shocked because our regular vet never said anything like that. So I took him to have a second opinion, turned out he had a fungal infection between his toes. A week of medication and he is all better! I am really glad I did not listen to this place and have his toe removed! Never ever again!

I've taken my dog here twice both for gastrointestinal problems. It is about a $60 exam which is the same as taking her to her regular vet.
You're reading this because you're in the same position I was --- my dog was lethargic and not herself. She couldn't go up stairs and couldn't jump on the couch.
Should I wait it out and see if she gets better? Or take her in right away?
I waited overnight to see if there was any change, and brought her in on a Sunday morning when my vet was not available. I was probably overreacting, but just had to know right away!!!
Dr Jones suggested pain meds. We suspected my dog had sprained a joint since she was letting out a little yelp whenever she jumped up or down from things.
Once I brought her home, the culprit unveiled itself - about 3 inches of a braided rope (from a toy) came out during her poop. After that she was good as new! I didn't even give her the rest of the meds.
I'm glad Dr. Jones didn't persuade me to get any xrays at the time, because my dog was back to herself as soon as the toy had passed. Dogs are really resilient.
On my most recent incident though, I waited a full 24 hours (vs. 12 hours last time). This time we did have xrays done and the dr showed us the xrays and went over them with us and discovered some fiber balls (possibly paper or cloth) inside her colon.
My dog was administered fluids and given reglan and famotidine to help stimulate her bowels.
In the end everything ended up costing $420. This was a shocker to me after our last little visit to the ER cost $100.
I'm posting this so others know what to expect. I would've liked to shop around, but another vet visit elsewhere would mean another exam ($) and possibly another round of xrays ($$) on top of this one.
Exam ~ $60
X Rays ~ $180
.7 ml Famotidine injection, .5 ml Reglan injection, and 10mg(5) Reglan tablets, fluids underneath the skin ~ $180
Total $420
I don't think going to the ER is that much more than going to the regular vet, and Dr. Jones explained everything to us and generally made me a lot less worried. I think she is great and I wish my regular vet was as thorough.
The only thing I'm antsy about is the price of the meds... I don't know how much I paid for the Metoclopramide only, but on http://petmeds.com they sell it for 29 cents per 10 mg tab! 30 tabs of famotidine are $5.99. I didn't have a breakdown of the costs, so maybe the fluids under the skin ate up a lot of money. You do need prescription, but it is definitely something I would consider next time my pet needs medication.
All in all, we're home now, and post-fluids injection the little girl is already a little more active. I hope this review can be of help to a fellow dog owner. -

After my bad experience at Mira Mesa Veterinary Clinic, I came here to get my dog neutered instead. I called for an appointment and they were able to get me in the next day! I found this place through the San Diego County Animal Services which has a spay/neuter program that gives subsidized rates. There's a list of vets that do this and when you call you just mention I was referred by the San Diego County Animal Services spay/neuter program. So with antibiotics and pain meds my bill was 105. Not bad at all!!
Dr. Jones is super nice and the rest of her staff as well. My dog was definitely in good hands. When I got the paper work back, I was surprised at how thorough it was. The receipt listed EVERYTHING needed for the surgery. The rest of the papers showed all the details of his surgery like his heart rate throughout, the kinds of sutures, anesthesia, all these medical terms that I didn't understand but it was very informative! And Ollie received a cute certificate of bravery with his picture on it which I thought was a nice touch. :)
This place is open 24 hours 7 days a week is really impressive. If I ever have any emergencies I would be sure to come here. -

Really, you can't get any better!
The prices were reasonable, the staff were super and Dr. Jones was the best! I would definately go back...just hope I don't have to go back. They even sent the medical records to my regular vet without prompting!
My 11 year old Shih Tzu dog took a nose dive off the patio, fell 16 feet and Dr. Jones and her staff were fabulous! They took excellent care of my beloved dog and had us on our way in no time!
Shih Tzu is recovering nicely...Thanks Guys! -

My dog got a deep cut in her paw pad, but I tried to clean and heal it on my own. After a week of this, a friend strongly suggested I take her to the vet, and as it was Sunday I had to bring her here.
Anyway, I was expecting to get kind of reprimanded for waiting so long to bring my dog to a vet, but instead, Dr. Jones was very nice and even told me I'd done a good job (from my previous experience with vets, they don't like it when you don't bring your dog in RIGHT AWAY after something happens). She also took excellent care of Haley (my dog), treating her gently, and everything was professional and quick. It is also affordable for an emergency vet. And, they care so much about your dog they'll call and check up at least twice!
The only negative thing I have to say is, Haley's foot bandage came off the next day, when they'd promised it'd last at least 5 days:( I won't say my dog just sat around, but I would have thought a bandage that's supposed to last that long can handle light romping here and there (as it's impossible not to excite a Golden Retriever;P). -

I was recommended to PetSurg by the San Diego County Animal Shelters and am VERY pleased with their service. I just took my kitty in today to be neutered and he came out without any problems :) When I called to make the appointment, Julia, the receptionist was so sweet and helpful and made the registration process with them very simple. Their prices are very reasonable compared to many San Diego County Vets and Pet Stores (believe me I called 90% of them). Dr. Jones did a great job with my baby and I would go back to them anyday!

Review from John D.

I am having a hard time rating this service. I think it important to include that I have been to many veterinary location across the country. At least over 10 vet locations. I am guess around 20, I have experience with several different vet and locations. Probably more experience then the typical person.
I am trying to choose between 2 or 3 stars for this a location. Well you decide. A dog was neutered at this location. About a week later, the dog's scrotum was very swallow and the dog was in a lot of pain.
I called Dr. Diane Jones to talk. She suggests pain medicines and warm compress but she had no really compassion. I told her that we had been doing that and it was not helping. She said you could come in and pay the re-exam fee. She made it really clear about the re-exam fee. I was absolute fine with paying a fee again, because the dog was in a lot pain.
I brought the dog in to be re-examined. Dr. Jones had compassion for the dog in the exam room during the exam and known he was in pain.
I was told by Dr. Jones that he would need to have surgery to have his scrotum removed. I was not surprised by this news. The following is what surprised me
1. Dr. Diane Jones told me well the dog probably was too active and did not start the warm compress early enough. We followed the directions that were given.
2. I felt Dr. Jones basically was blaming me for the complication which I DID NOT LIKE at all. From reading research, I learned that this type of complication could be possible from an error in surgery where something was not tied or cauterized well enough or it could have just have been a post-operative complication.
3. She then gave me an estimate for about thousand dollars. While during the estimate, she told me from talking to me over the phone that she known the dog had the internal bleed in the scrotum and would need surgery. I wondered why she did not tell me that over the phone and just give me a quote for the phone.
4. Due to the estimate being high, I decide to get a 2nd opinion from our local vet. When I informed Dr. Jones that she told me you mean a 2nd estimate in an upset manner.
I actually meant 2nd opinion. I did not like being blamed and did not like around $1,000 quote.
Dr. Jones then lowered the price by about $100. I still wanted the 2nd opinion. I wanted to know what a vet that I know well thought.
The front desk tech/receptionist told me that the other vet around town would charge a lot more than that quote Dr. Jones had just given. They both were being very sale pushy, which I did not like. It reminded me of car sales people.
5. I went to our regular vet for the 2nd opinion. The vet walked by and was shocked by the size of the scrotum. She came in a few minutes later and examined the dog. This vet told me that the internal bleed in the scrotum can occur after neutering. . She did not blame anyone but did say the scrotum need to be surgical removed.
She left to have a quote made up. She brought the quote back in and explained it. She did not try to sell and was not pushy at all. This location was than more than half the price then petsurg and er4pet. When I saw our vet quote, I think my mouth dropped open because it was such a big difference.
I understand Dr. Jones is a board certified in the American College of Veterinary Surgeon, so she can charge more. I agree with that and she should charge what she wants. She has much more education in surgeries then a typical vet.
I do did not like being told by Dr. Jones staff that other vet will be much more expensive and find out the opposite. That does not seem to be honest/ethical.
That is my story. Basically I am disappointed that
A. Dr. Jones did not show much compassion over the phone.
B. It seemed liked Dr. Jones blamed me for the complication. It is possible it was not my fault.
C. Both Dr. Jones and her staff were clearly trying to sell. It really felt like I was at a car sales people at a dealership. I have never felt so pushed to buy a producer at a vet location. I was have flash back of buying a car from a dealer.
D. Dr. Jones's employee telling me other vet around town will be much more expensive then Dr. Jones which i find out was not true.
A few positives:
1. The place was very clean.
2. The monitoring system while a dog is under is really nice.
3. The dog's chart given to the owners is very nice.
4. Dr. Jones did have compassion for the dog in during the exam.
To close, I choose 2 stars. I really do not like being told something and find the opposite be true. Basically lied to by Dr. Jones staff.
I might go back for a dog emergency. I don't think I would come here from routine surgeries or special surgeries from my recent experiences. -

Since my review is one of the 11 "filtered" by Yelp, you will probably not get a chance to read it.
Nonetheless, as long as you have your pet treated by Dr. Jones and only Dr. Jones, you will be happy with the care given to your pet.
And as long as the vet tech who lied to me, is still working for Dr. Jones, I won't be taking my pets to Petsurg.1 Previous Review: Show all »

OK, the gloves are off. First off I never called my baby girl a lemon. Yes, she can walk around she thinks she can run When I picked her up, I asked Miss Jones if she could play and said no not for eight weeks. She collapsed and is unable to play. When I picked Sophie up, I looked through the door as Diana lifted her to a gurney, but had not taken the IV out yet. It was yanked out. I had asked her if she gave her a pedicure. She paused and said Sophie would be out soon. She delivered my dog with the shortest bloody stumps.(mind you that she was already coming out of anaesthesia) Then when she came to my house to fix a staple that had popped loose, she was going to staple it right there. I told her to wait till I go upstairs to get a flashlight. Did she wait?NOOOOO So she stapled Sophie right into the wound not the skin. My baby never whimpered once since the surgery. Well, she cried all night long. i'm not angry. I just hope I can save other dogs this pain and suffering. By the way, her verbal contract is worthless. It kills me that I could have taken her to a top notch ortho by that time she nickle and dimed to death. This doesn't have anything with ERPETS, as long as she's not the attending Dr,

Review from Erin B.
San Diego, CA
I am very disappointed. I am well versed in pet care - I have volunteered locally for a dog rescue group many years and served on their board of directors, so I have been involved with vet care for hundreds of dogs at vet clinics throughout the county. I also have had 3 medical needs pets who I have regularly sought specialized vet care.
My recent overall experience was poor - slower than reasonable. I did not feel they gave my dog, who was in pain, any consideration to ease his discomfort. In pain he was left to "recover" from his brutal x-ray session and other procedures while crouching terrified on the stainless table - for 2 hours. I stood uncomfortably next to him so that he did not leap or fall off onto the floor. I regret not interfering to improve his situation sooner.
My main issue is with pricing - while waiting the nice tech came to me with a written quote for sedation, the visit, and two x-rays. Dr. Jones clarified at the time of the quotation saying she' take a "few extra" x-rays and only charge for two. I consented. They asked if I wanted a blood workup, quoted me a price, and I consented. Dr. Jones suggested we could flush my dog's ear, trim his nails, and remove a tiny wart since he would already be sedated. They did not mention a price, so I honestly and completely thought would be included in the rest of the quotation. On my bill I discovered each added item was a cost, including $150 for "surgery" to remove the tiny wart - which I would NEVER allowed to be removed if there was an associated charge.
I don't believe that Dr. Jones honestly thought I understood she would charge me and intended to pay for a cosmetic wart removal even if my dog was already sedated.m Every vet I've worked with has clarified all costs in advance and not doing so was wrong. The wart removal charge was more than the blood work, indicating it was a substantial cost, and should have been identified.
I called to discuss this afterwards expecting Dr Jones would agree that it was an error. Dr. Jones agreed they had not indicated a price, but stated that they had already given me "quote after quote" (referring to the initial quote and the blood work) and that it was not reasonable to provide me with one for the wart as well, although they apparently felt it was worth mentioning the blood work cost, which was lower. She pointed out that she could remove the wart cost from my bill but could raise the other costs to even it out. This was so ridiculous that I discontinued the conversation.
Had Dr. Jones suggested a reasonable solution, such as a reduced cost, I would not be writing a negative review.
Due to my volunteer work, I am close with a large demographic of pet owners, and will continue to spread the word warning other owners.
Do not skip emergency vet care if a pet's life is at stake - but there are better equipped vet hospitals on S. Escondido Blvd (7 miles north) and Poway Road. I have also dealt extensively with Veterinary Specialty Hospital on Sorrento Valley Road and highly recommend them. If you cannot travel anywhere but ER4PETS, be educated after my poor experience.Comment from Dr Diana J. of PETSURG & ER4PETS 7/27/2010
