I think this store, it's employees and it's four legged shoppers are the Cat's MEOW ... get it ??? Cats ... meows ???

So we live in this neighborhood and shopped at their other location in the same complex but where Walgreen's is now. What a massive difference! The whole place is cleaner, brighter and full of people who have a pretty good amount of knowledge and time to help me out. I dig this. There have been several times when an employee sees me headed down the cat food aisle , waited to see what brand I pick up and whipped out a coupon for just what's in my hand. Like a coupon stalker ...how great ! The sweet 70 something man at the register who tells me to say "Hello" to my cats gets sweeter every time. I don't think my cats care if I say hello, let alone him but it's thoughtful nevertheless. One of the other girls told me she drives over an hour just to work at this location ..that's also a pretty good sign

I cannot help but completely swoon over every super happy, linoleum slipping dog that comes smiling their way through the front doors ... big dogs, little dogs, all equally happy to be out and about. These dogs seem as thrilled to be walking in here as my kids are walking out of school on the first day of summer vacation!

There are ways to really torture yourself here too with all the buddies you can adopt ...I met with a very cute and playful cat with about 1/2 of his right ear in tact ...I'm pretty sure we belong together but my other three cats aren't so sure ... so if any one is looking.

Bottom line, this is consistently a top notch, furry friend, friendly place to be ! No matter how may legs, feathers or gills you may have.

I don't actually bring my dogs with me to Petsmart (they are far too huge for me to control AND shop...) but I do go to Petsmart for their basic needs like dog food, bedding, treats, toys, etc.

Petsmart is a giant chain and not necessarily terribly customized or "local" feeling, but I get what I need and the prices are good, so I would recommend going to Petsmart for your doggie (or other pet) needs.

I have only taken my dog to the groomers there TWICE in 12 months. Both times my dog was in (scheduled) when they opened and it took more than 4 hours both times. This last time - I called after 4 hours and waited for 6 minutes on hold before I drove down there to find out the status. When I showed up they said, "The dryer made him nervous" so we are letting him "chill out" back there before finishing him. I waited in the store for another half hour for them to finish.

2 times - twice I had to wait - twice I was not happy with the service. No three strikes for me thanks.

This Petsmart actually recently moved from just off Colorado Blvd back behind it on Alameda, and the improvements are phenomenal. The aisles are wider, the place is laid out better, and it just looks and smells new (for now). I went on grand opening weekend, and the employees were super cheerful and chatty, and they gave me a balloon with a free cat food lid on the end of it.

There's a better enclosed area for dog training classes, instead of just randomly in the middle of the store like before. You can see in to the training area too.

A young male employee helped me pick out a gluten free cat food and even thought it might prevent my cat from vomiting on a regular basis. It's nice that their employees are knowledgeable about the ingredients of their products rather than just shrugging and saying "I don't know" like they probably would at Target next door.

The variety is just great here, and you can usually find some good deals. They have a frequent shopper card and weekly discounts on certain items (I think the gluten free wet food was about 30 cents for a huge can on-sale!). That's cheaper than Fancy Feast!

I'm looking forward to the new location when it opens (it's under final construction right now). The parking will be much more accessible and safer for the dogs that are brought to visit - the parking lot now is very small, claustrophobic, and doesn't have much room to maneuver. A dog could easily be killed by a car coming 'round the corner if the dog was on a flexi-lead and a few feet away from it's owner.

This location is pretty large and had a huge selection of dog toys. There were training classes in session and I recognized the same approaches from the Petsmart puppy class I attended in Ithaca, so at least we know the training IS universal among Petsmart locations.

However, the Psittacosis outbreak still reigns, knocking the birds off from market until a projected April release. While this suits me fine (I don't support the breeding of pets OR the sale of them in commercial businesses) I was pretty discouraged to find the ridiculously over-priced baby conure without much of a tail While damage to tail feathers is pretty common among babies, I'll admit I was a bit worried whether the bird was over-preening himself due to boredom. I waited 10 minutes for a manager and had to leave; therefore my comments went unheard. =\

they carry only unhealthy food, most of which are on recall list.  have boring collars, cheap toys that are destroyed in moments and people working who know nothing about pets.
Petsmart is for people who don't know better!

This petsmart carries your typical stock of pet products.  But their staff is a little questionable.  I had one young man approach me and ask if I was finding everything okay, and I ended up roping him into helping me look for something to calm my dog down when she travels.  He was pretty helpful in that he pointed me to the right section of the store, but that was about it.  He didn't really know much about the products, which I don't blame him for... if you don't need it then you don't know about it.  But his approach was to try and sell me the most expensive thing.  So I started there and eventually I found that my dog actually reacts best to the cheapest product they have - luckily for me.  Can't blame a guy for being nice, right?

Now onto the grooming salon.  They're why this rating isn't four-star.  The lady checking me in asked for my info, typed it into the computer, asked if my dog dislikes the groomer, and took my dog.  Now, I have an eight-pound little bitty thing.  And she's feisty.  She's friendly though, sometimes overly friendly.  She's non-aggressive and loves every dog and person she meets.  Well the groomer didn't think so.  She said she had to restrain her... just for a nail trim.  No other location has ever had a problem with her, and I usually get a complimentary bandana because everyone just loves her.  So that frustrated me.  And another thing?  As I headed to the checkout, I was looking at the printout the groomer gave me and about 40% of my information was wrong.  My address was spelled wrong, my unit number was not listed, and my dog's name was butchered.  And I made sure to repeat it about four times.  Seriously, get a more competent groomer, because this location is the closest to me!

They just remodeled the whole place, then moved into it from their other (very dirty) location, in the same shopping center.  I really like how clean this place is now, let's hope they keep it that way.
If you're not too picky about what you feed your pets, I can guarantee they will have what you need at PetSmart.  The staff is right off the street, with very little training, so they don't know a lot about anything.  You can talk to the doctor in the back if you have a medical question or go to a better store for nutritional information.  They only know the basics, that anyone who has pets should know.
Here's the good news, they will let you adopt a pet there.  (Mostly dogs and cats, but I adopted a couple of fish once too.)  They have a vet's office in the back of the store.  They do have a groomer (but i would highly suggest you don't use them.)
The groomers are terrible!  Just stop by for some pet food and stand and watch (at the huge window) to see what the groomers do to those poor doggies.  I know I'd never make my puppy go through that.

My dog came away from these groomers a mess.  He was terrified and the lady who did it was plain rude to me when I picked him up.  They charged me extra because he had a mat behind his ear and extra to brush his teeth, extra if I wanted conditioner, etc.  This was the worst experience we have had at a groomer.

I've brought my teacup chihuahua here a few times to get his nails cut, which I thought would be easy because he is so small. They say that nail cuts are priced by the breed of dog. Well, each time I went in they gave me a different price! (Between $8-12). Once I got them down to $8 the guy reached across the counter, and snipped all of the nails real fast. He wasn't extremely careful, and I noticed that none of the nails were the same length, and he barely trimmed some of them at all. This meant that I had to get them trimmed again earlier than normal, which was annoying. While I haven't found anywhere cheaper yet, I am sure that there is somewhere better and more thorough.

I've taken my dog (border collie mutt) here twice to get groomed and it always makes me a little nervous.  Even though she's had an appointment both times, everyone still seemed thoroughly confused with what I wanted and who I was when I brought her in exactly on time.  They tell you to leave them for up to 4 hours, which seems like a long time to me, considering I've made an appointment.  And the dogs just get locked up in little kennels in the back.  But my dog is very puffy and needed to get "carded" (it's like a de-shedding brushing treatment) and I wanted them to be thorough, so I went with it.  I called after 4 hours and the lady had no idea what I was asking about.  So I just jumped in the car to head down there and then got a call on the way that my dog was finished.  She looked great, aside from ridiculous blue bows on her ears, but was so worked up when I got her that I knew she hated every second of it.  But she has separation anxiety, so I can't really say that Petsmart is particularly stressful, or if it was just the whole experience of getting groomed.  So overall, they seem a little disorganized, and it is a time commitment, but they do a good jod and my dog did look shiny and sleek and pretty when I picked her up.
