PETS-DC is a nonprofit volunteer organization that provides pet services (e.g. dog walking, litterbox cleaning, feeding, vet care) for persons with HIV/AIDS and other disabling conditions.

I've enjoyed a couple of their ubercute annual Pride of Pets dog shows.
They've had awesome categories like "Least Obedient," "Most Mysterious Heritage," "Best Tail-Wagging," "Most Butch" (with enough leather, even the tiniest purebred poodles can be butch, oh yes),  "Best Vocal Performance" (one owner brought an opera CD and their dog howled along!)...  Spectating is free. Though you just might die of cute overload. This neighborhood has some of the most adorable little dogs you'll ever see.
