Darling Yelpers, please do not go here.

Every time I must satisfy my craving for the most delicious smoked salmon benedict I have found, I have to wait and wait behind the line of other people who are waiting for the exact same thing. So please, stay away. Get an average benny anywhere else in the city!

With that said, if you must venture in, make sure you enjoy the most amazing almond croissant ever created on this earth, or whatever other pastry has not been snatched up.

PS - They serve brunch until 7. Amazing.

    11:45am. Midtown. Hunger strikes.

None of us had any great hope of finding a nice place in Midtown - Trap of Tourists - so we followed the Google map to the closest, most-positively-Yelped place: this one.  Admittedly, this place was *not* what we were seeking: we wanted cozy, brunchy, abundant relaxation. What we got was a kind of musty, New York grandmother place: ritzy and laughably expensive (one item on the menu was $200+!) and kind of brittle and snooty. At least, I didn't like the decor.

That said, for such a miss in terms of what we wanted, it was actually fine once we got there. (And, come on, old ladies are adorable.) The sandwiches (roasted ham, a Monsieur Croque, the salmon on baguette one) were tasty enough, and sometimes feeling like a young, alienated Holden Caulfield out on the town is nice. But, like Holden, we couldn't wait to get out of there!

(Glancing over the other Yelp reviews, I am inclined to say: we didn't have an almond croissant. Maybe that was the problem.)

What a magical place.  Yes, the almond croissant was pretty awesome.  Went there around 4 pm and I had the last one.  The coffee was good too.  My sister ordered the tomato and cantaloupe salad with basil coulee.  I was very surprised at how refreshing and perfectly balanced the flavors were.

I look forward to going back!

I was contacted by management regarding my experience at Petrossian Cafe, who apologized, and offered a gesture of good will. They had me at "I'm sorry". :-)
Seeing as how my issue was with the service, and not the delicious croissant I had, I'll bump my review up. When management reads and responds to Yelp reviews, it says something about that business, and the service you should receive there.

Wow!!! Everything here is absolutely delicious!  I come here everyday, literally.

I've had croissant, chocolate croissant, almond croissant, apricot danish, all muffins, orange brioche, all fruit tarts, and baguette.  I have NEVER been dissatisfied and I've introduced many friends to the BEST BAKERY IN NYC!!!

Thank you Petrossians, see you tomorrow!

Almond croissants were sold out (at noon) so tried a chocolate croissant instead-- literally a small line of chocolate inside a puffed balloon pastry. Disappointing.

5 stars for their pastries and viennoiseries.
    4 stars for their brunch.

We've been here numerous times in the past month for all of their rich and delicious offerings.  Come early otherwise you're bound to be sad that they've sold out of what you were looking for.  It is definitely slim pickings by end of day.
We've had the fruit tarts, the chocolate mousse pastries, almond croissants, chocolate croissants and canneles (new addiction!).  All were stellar!  This is the best patisserie and viennoiserie in Manhattan.  I am in love!

For brunch I like that you just get in line and wait your turn.  There is no funny business and it's all straightforward.  The only thing is while you stand and wait you're right where all the goodies are...

*Petrossian breakfast: smoked salmon (melts in your mouth with just the right saltiness), scrambled eggs (fluffly and moist), crispy bacon (really, it's crispy), jam, toast points, orange juice and coffee (you can go for tea if you dont like coffee).  Coffee was nice and strong and is served in a small carafe along with steamed  milk.
*Pain perdue: homemade bread dipped in flavored egg mixture (really fluffy), scrambled eggs (yummy fluff), crispy apple smoked bacon, maple syrup, jam (tasty on the pain perdue) and coffee.  Per the menu, batter has a hint of Grand Marnier.  This looked small coming out but was filling.

Service is not super fast but we had no issues.  We had the corner booth so we had ample room for 3 of us and it's a pleasant loft dining area.

We'll be back for more pastries I'm sure.

Went on a Sunday about 1pm or so to try one of those almond croissants everyone has raved about.  No dice, all out.  One lonely chocolate croissant left, ate that.  It was pretty good.  Yes I know, I should have come earlier.  I should know better.  Yes, I know bakeries run out of things by early afternoon.  But I don't live in NYC, just visiting and sightseeing.  Maybe next time I'll visit NYC for a croissant tour and then this place will be tops on my list of things to do...

A cozy, refreshingly different and elegant place to get weekend brunch. Petrossian has a large bakery and cafe counter for take-out and caviar / salmon on the right. There are 8 to 10 tables in the back for dine-in. The whole place had a European atmosphere and was definitely a nice change from the other NYC brunch places. The coffee was great and comes in pretty silver teapots and my croissant with jam was amazing. Unfortunately the almond croissant everyone talks about was unavailable. Boyfriend had the pain perdue platter and he enjoyed it - though I did notice the serving was a little small (must be the European style continuing). Definitely need to try the salmon next time.

The almond croissant is pricey at $3.50 but it's every baker's dream come true - fresh, flaky and tasteful in each layer. I always come around 9:30 to guarantee myself a morning treat. Just note that it runs out around 11am!

Hot chocolate is nothing special, but if you get it - make sure you stir it consistently as you sip so you're not overwhelmed with chocolately goodness at the end.

Next up - need to just find time to sit in the back and experience their service. Wonder what's the best time...

This is my paean to Petrossian.

The croissants are perfection. I still crave/dream about those croissants. The almond croissant is just delectable, buttery, flaky (but not flaky all over your clothes), with just the right amount of marzipan. I'm repeating myself, but truly, perfection. The plain croissant is almost as good, just not quite the otherworldly treat the almond croissant lends itself to be: plain croissant=happy; almond croissant=ecstasy.

The Petrossian breakfast is quite lovely too. A must visit for anyone visiting the Upper East Side/Central Park area.

The croissants at Petrossian's Bakery are simple and perfect.  Big folded pillows of buttery air.  In fact, I liked the couple (over a few days) that I tried, those and the one that I got on my way out of town so I could partially enjoy my airport tea.  Even after horrifically being flattened during transport, the croissant was as close to perfect as a pillowy pastry would have been.  The airport tea was the opposite.

I ate at this bakery a handful of times.  Yes, that easy and that good.  If you're into touristy nosh with mediocre, chemically created ingredients, don't go to Petrossain, the food may be too amazing for you.  Stick to the food carts or whatever it is the throngs of tourists eat.

I highly recommend the borscht.  It's (as far as I could tell) vegetarian, full of spice, tiny chunks of beets, and will warm you up on a cold day.  I also highly, highly (what's the next step up from highly?  Supremely?  Totally?  Ten miles above the zenith-ly?) recommend the oatmeal raisin cookies.  They're roughly the size of waffles and are slightly crunchy along the edges and super moist everywhere else.

I didn't branch out and try the caviar, salmon, or meat and cheese plates, but they serve those, as well.  In bulk to go, or to eat in.  The space itself is gorgeous, inside and most especially out.  The restaurant and bakery are both on the ground floor of an apartment building faced with a terra cotta facade circa 1905 or thereabouts.  Gorgeous building.  The seating area has five two-tops and two four tops.  It's small, but the space is very well organized.  Just walk through the gorgeous bakery/meat/cheese shop and seat yourself, order - make certain to get one of their specialty teas, then wait for your perfect repast.

Like many, I got hooked on Petrorussian through my gf bringing me home almond croissants. Those alone are worth the trip. It's like a party in your mouth.

That aside, it's a quiet, chill place to grab a good cup of coffee and catch up with someone or get some work done. The prices are a bit high and I don't think I'll be buying their high end caviar anytime soon, but I'll come in for a solid cup of joe.

I was eager to try the Petrossian almond croissant and see whether it lived up to the hype so I made sure to fit this spot into my New York itinerary for the weekend.

WOW--this treat is a little taste of heaven. It is absolutely mind blowing and delicious. I was in awe...I just sat in central park and ate this whole croissant to the very last crumbs because it was THAT good. We also got two plain croissants that according to my bf were "just like the ones he had in Paris."If I had my own segment of "Best thing I ever ate," this croissant would be on the list.

The cafe itself is very nice and has a nice calming feel to it. It wasn't busy and it was hard not to notice the display of caviar, perhaps I'll savour that another time!

*note: the coffee is nothing to rave about. The barista served me up with a cold coffee at first, so I obviously returned for a freshly made hot one.

I have to say that I'm a fan of the cookies here.  They have a great balance of softness/chewyness, crispiness and sweetness in a cookie.  We tried the chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin.  I'm a fan of both. Since this was an afternoon snack, we didn't try the infamous croissants but I will def be back.  The place is really cute inside and perfect for a date whether with an s.o. or to meet a friend to catch up.

I stopped by to try their chocolates.

Got a 3.75 oz box of 9 truffle sampler for $33.

Passion Fruit in white and dark chocolate, Milk Chocolate Ganache, Orange-Scented Soft Caramel, Dark Chocolate Ganache, Chile-Limon Mayan Truffle, Kaffir Lime with Coconut and Ginger, Salted Butter Caramel, Lemon Supreme and Zinfandel-Balsamic Truffle.

Besides the citrus ones (Lemon Supreme and Kaffir Lime), I LOVED them.

This is good chocolate.  Really good.

Petrossian's still serves the best almond croissants in the city.
Their other pastries are also worth a look.

They've had service issues over the years (in fact, they lost me as a customer for several years as a result), and from skimming the reviews here, I see that that hasn't changed, although on my most recent visit the other day, the service was just fine.

I could easily eat their almond croissant all day, every day. $3.50 for the buttery, gooey marzipan inside, flakey outside, uber delectable pastry- I don't know how I've lived so close for so long and haven't made it over there before. Martha Stewart once called this her favorite croissant in the world, and I don't blame her.

    Dear Petrossian. I love you.

If you are fortunate enough to live nearby the cafe is a pleasant little spot for a relaxed post coital breakfast date or for take out for the best, perhaps only, authentic croissants in NYC.

When you compare the prices for a cup of great coffee and a croissant to the competition ( Payard, etc..) Petrosssian Cafe wins hands down!

Came here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. Nice location near Columbus Circle. It was quiet and the food was delicious. I had the cobb salad which was exactly what I was looking for, well-balanced flavors and good portion size. Service was standard. I would have liked to try their famed croissants and baked goods but by that time (1pm) there were no more to be had hence the 3 stars.

After my brother was refused admittance to join me for breakfast

home to my sister in law, who loved it.  I wanted to go back
and sample some more-I have to say that ladies dining next to me
complained because the day before they had rec'd TWO large
slabs of smoked salmon and on this day only one appeared. THe
waiter quickly remove the plate and returned it with the amount
they insisted had been served the day before.  He was a very

Four stars for the amazing, buttery, flaky, not overly sweet almond croissant that I picked up as a treat for myself one chilly afternoon.  I think I almost swooned when I took my first bite.

One word of warning: if you want a double espresso to go with that, as I did, go across the street (or on any corner) to Starbucks as Petrossian will charge you by the shot.  That's right, my double espresso cost $16.  I was in such shock for being such an idiot for not asking the price that I simply paid, dumbfounded, and left.  Good lesson for me - suck it up and ASK how much they charge for an espresso.  Even $8 for a single shot is too rich for me. I was thinking perhaps that I'd find tiny gold flecks at the bottom of my to-go cup for that price but alas, that was not the case.

    THE RUMORS ARE TRUE.

    THEY HAVE, *THE* CROISSANT.

No it's not French (zut alors, c'est sacrilege!!).

It's not solely a bakery either.

BUT it is the BEST croissant I have had in New York, and believe me I have been having them.

I used to work around the corner on 57th street, and discovered this puff-pastry paradise on my LAST day there at work. So revelatory but also so depressing! I have been know to make special trips here uptown to a now mostly redundant midtown location in my quotidian day routine, just for the croissant.

Definitely definitely definitely DO come here to taste the delicately baked marzipanious flakey cresents if you're looking for them.

We were a group of 6. Even though we tried to avoid the weekend brunch rush by showing up at 1:30, we still had to wait about 25 mins and ended up squeeze in a booth for 4.
The brunch menu is around $12 - $18, if you are not having caviar. The portions are not big, but enough to fill you up. Everything is good, but the fruit tart was the most memorable. It was so flaky, just overall amazing.

The best almond croissant I have eaten (I'm sorry Bakery Noveau in West Seattle!).  I could eat nothing but these croissants for the rest of my life and be pretty happy.  So light and fluffy and yet crunchy and flaky.  Each bite tastes like it is infused with a rich butter flavor and has just the right amount of almond flavor in each bite.  Nearly equally delicious was the apricot pastry for all the same reasons.  Quite similar, but with an apricot flavor instead of almond, and with crushed pistachios for extra crunch.

Having paid homage to the croissant, the cafe was also adorable and the rest of the food incredible.  The front of the establishment is a cute storefront with cases filled with cookies, breads, pastries, truffles, and other yummies.    In the back of the store, there is a raised area with five or six little cafe tables at which you can order a full breakfast menu.  Very casual and low key.  The food and atmosphere takes you to a teeny little cafe in Paris.

I ordered the Eggs Benedict which had some of the best Bernaise sauce I've tried, perfectly poached eggs, and thinly sliced flavorful ham more along the lines of a Serrano ham than the Canadian bacon typically served with Eggs Benedict. My husband ordered the brioche Grand Marnier flavored French toast with bacon and eggs and he seemed quite happy as well.

The espresso and cappucino were also superior - rich, bold tasting without the slightly burnt taste sometimes detectable in espresso at places like Starbucks. So good we made the six block walk the next morning for an encore performance.

After having such a delicious meal, we were enticed to order a bunch of other pastries to take with us for later.  The cinnamon roll shaped like a pinwheel was not quite as good as it looked.  The caramelized vanilla custard was intensely delicious.  The Parisian macaroon and shortbread were both excellent.  The ginger and chocolate chip cookies were surprisingly disappointing - spend your time and calories on less traditional options.

A perfect bakery/cafe for an easy brunch in NYC.  Because there are no reservations and only a handful of small tables, it seemed as though the wait time could vary, though we only had to wait for about 5 minutes and were perfectly content browsing through all the pastry options during that time.

I visited Petrossian after a friend recommended it to me, saying that they have the best croissants. My friend was absolutely correct. I tried the regular croissants, chocolate croissants, and the apricot danishes and everything was amazing, so amazing I had to go back to get more to bring home to my family. Note that the apricot danishes are pretty sweet, so if you don't have a sweet tooth, you might want to skip them. If you DO have a sweet tooth, TRY THEM.

Petrossian also has a bunch of other yummy-looking items, such as caviar, chocolates, smoked salmon, etc., but I didn't go for those, only the croissants. Oh, and while the croissants are amazing super-fresh, I kinda like them better the next day. They aren't quite as flaky and you don't lose half of your roll from it flaking off.

Came here the first morning of a week-long visit to NYC, and never looked back. Simply the best croissant I've ever had - and that includes multiple visits to France, people!

I don't know how they do it, but the combination of tender, moist insides, with delicate, flaky outside makes a Petrossian croissant a must-have experience. Service and coffee are fine also, but the croissant is what gets the five stars.

I recently saw that Petrossian had NY's #2 best croissant, so I had to come see for myself! (Settled for #2 because it was very close to where I was staying)

Tried the almond croissant, which was, truthfully the flakiest, freshest croissant I have bitten into on this side of the Atlantic. Petrossian uses the perfect amount of almond paste so you never go one bite without, or one bite with too much. Can I just reiterate how flaky this croissant is? Don't eat if you are wearing very nice clothing, unless you are willing to get croissant flakes all over it.

Wish I had time and room for all of their pastries!

Ate at the cafe. We were too late to order breakfast, so we had lunch.
Likes: almond croissant. The bread and butter that accompanied the borscht. Nice staff behind the counters.
Dislikes: the borscht was just ok, and could be tweaked to address the salty and sweet flavors that nearly kill it half-way through the bowl.

The best plain croissant I've ever had in my life! My hubby and I also shared the apricot and pistachio croissant, which was very tasty but a little too much for me. The raisin croissant-like bread was delicious as well. Mmmm!

My grandpa and his kooky-krazy wife used to live around the corner; this was their go-to spot for years. As part of the old arts guard (he, a musician; she, an actress) they'd convene here regularly on the intimate, platformed dining area in the back with their culture-vulture neighbors who themselves had interesting claims to fame. On one visit they pointed to a crooked skeleton dining alone, crystal goblet before her, draped in gray cashmere and shadow, and they said, Now, in the 50s SHE was THE biggest face in modeling.

The model, in turn, caviar in spoon, gestured in our general direction  as if in toast, and continued her leisured meal.

A version of this moment played and replayed itself a thousand times in the years the three of us would visit Petrossian. One might think that any place so elegant and rich in scene would falter on the food.

    One would be mistaken.

Some of the most delightful lunches of my life took place inside these four walls. Granted I almost always got the same thing: The Petrossian Club. It's toasted blins layered with lemon sage aioli, smoked salmon sturgeon, eel, tomato, lettuce & honey mustard. And even though I think honey mustard is about as goy as goy gets, I declare without reservation: The Petrossian Club is a masterpiece of glittering Manhattan lunchtime fare.

One item to avoid: anything on the menu that features the "warm nan bread." It's nothing like the nan you know. Theirs is thin and tough as a brick: a ill-conceived vehicle for the loose ingredients they use to top it (caviar, smoked salmon, etc.)

The ice coffee is divine, the teas are blessedly aromatic and restorative, and the gorgeous chocolates that line the entry arcade ... your piece de resistance.

In the spirit of key words: Petrossian Cafe may be the best place to grab brunch or lunch around Columbus Circle, Central Park South, or environs.

My friend didn't like her food, but my salmon bagel with cream cheese was awesome!  It was 12 bucks but it came with this giant slice of smoked salmon!!  It's a nice little shop.
