I went here on a weekday right after they opened (10am) with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law to paint a few pieces of pottery, relax, and chit chat. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and creative vibe. I loved the selection of ceramic pieces! Surprisingly, we didn't have tons of unruly children that came in - I think going in at an early time helped that out a lot. It is a bit pricey - over $9 studio fee + whatever amount your piece is to paint... but it is worth it as a nice treat every now and then. AND they have specials on Tuesday I think, so definitely something to check out. Had a great experience and my flour canister is absolutely beautiful!

SO EXPENSIVE. $9ish dollars to sit and paint, then $___ of what you decide to paint. All the while the Roseville/Rocklin Mom's with their unruly spawn run around you shrieking. Forget coming here if there's a party going on or you'll leave with that buzzing in your ears like you just stood next to the speakers at a show.

We had a birthday party for our 4 year old son tonight.  We had never been to a birthday party here but when our son gets a little "wound up" I take him here and he really calms and focuses on the project and painting.  So we decided to have his birthday party there.  I can not commend the staff more!  My wife called in many times to change the number and they understood.  When our son was sick this week and we let them know, they said we could re-schedule!  The party turned out to be LEGEN (wait for it) DAIRY!  Okay, maybe not that great but it was a party for a 4 year old!  I was amazed how focused the kids were for the first hour only getting up from their chairs to get more paint.  The staff helped us clean up the table, take the painted pottery away and get ready for cake and presents.  I highly suggest Petroglyph for a birthday party.  They are fairly inexpensive, accomodating, and they like to CLEAN!  Thank you goes out to the entire Saturday night staff at Petroglyph!

Great place for some quality time with people you like.  There are tons of paints and supplies to make whatever your heart desires.

The employees are super helpful.  One of them assisted me in drawing a bow on the piggy bank I was making and it turned out beautifully.

I've been to Petroglyph many times through-out my life because I live relatively close by. I haven't had any bad experiences with them (besides the over inflated price of course) until this week.

I noticed that the staff member base seems to get younger, now floating around the age of 16. I didn't really think anything of it until I collected the pottery my fiance and I had painted on Monday... disaster. The pottery glaze was thick and gobbed around the neck of our pieces (we painted the owl and penguin banks to exchange as gifts for our 2nd year anniversary). His owl had a big chip out of this side, completely taking the paint off. The person that had glazed mine had streaked the paint down my penguins (white) belly, making it looks sloppy and ugly. They were supposed to be special and as perfect as we had painted them, but they weren't.

For 16$ banks plus a 9.75$ sitting fee TIMES TWO, I expect a bit more professionalism from a business. What we received was sloppy, inexperienced, and ugly. I'm not happy with our pieces and I wouldn't return until Petro attempts to train their employees the correct way to glaze and fire. I don't think they cared that we were unhappy and promptly shoo'd us out the door.

I adore this place.  I think I may have quite possibly loved this place, before I even met it.  I have been on the search for a ceramic painting store and this place definitely fits the bill.

I had come here for the first time on Nov. 2nd, 2010.  How do I know this...because it was the day after The Giants won the World Series, duh!  LoL.  On a serious note, I had come here to create something to remember someone very dear and special to me and also create something to remember the Giant's win.

The place is very well set up.  They have a big horseshoe type table and several smaller tables set around the studio.  The day I had come, the place was empty...just me and my mommy...makes sense, since it was a weekday.

The place offers several different ceramic pieces to choose from...they have plates, vases, banks, etc.  You pay for the price of the item and the studio fee.  That's it.  The studio fee allows you to paint all day, if you wish.  Just one flat fee and it is an all day pass.  They have an extensive selection of paints, brushes, sponges, etc...anything you need to create a masterpiece, you can.

The person who was working the day I went is the owner and she was extremely pleasant!  She was very helpful and explained the process very well, as it was my first time.

Word to the wise...allow yourself between 2-3 hours a piece.  I had wanted to paint two pieces, but did not expect to take 2-3 hours on only one piece.

I cannot wait to go back again with a group of friends, so they can also unleash their inner Van Gogh.

Perfect place for a friend date. I've been here 5-6 times already. Though the final amount paid at the end of the day is a bit pricey (a $9.75 studio fee + whatever you decide to get), it's well worth it - especially with the coupons that you'll end up accumulating with each visit.

They have everything from cute chopstick bowls to little figurine statues. I'm personally a fan of the $9 mugs.

The place itself is very neat and cozy with bright lighting and comfy couches as well. All the brushes, paints, palettes and sponges are very clean. And there is a large selection of colors. My only wish is that parents wouldn't take kids that are much much much too young into the store, as some might start crying of boredom if they sit too long while painting, which is usually what happens.

Craving some Mommy and Me time, I took my 4 yr old daughter here for a little arts n' craft sesh a while back.

$20 paid for the "studio fee", including an $8 mug she chose to paint -- uhh $8, really? Could have brought a plain mug myself for way less. However they do have the buy 3 get one free deal, which is cool. Still think it's kinda pricey, but I'll happily fork over the cash to tap into my Mini's artistic side.

Big layout, lots of colors to choose from paint-wise, cool stencils and stamps to use, and a fairly chill vibe. Whether you come with one kidlet or bring a big group, the staff is always accommodating and welcoming.

Overall, nothing over the top to write home about venue-wise, but it's a rad place to bring kids to so they can expand those little creative minds of theirs.

I went to petroglyph for a work event. We had a two hour block of time, and even though the store was still open to the public, we had most of it to ourselves. Everyone had to pick a piece that was worth at least $12 as part of the group project. After our tutorial, we were left on our own to get the creative juices flowing. I picked an owl, and got to painting. We had our event on a Wednesday, and my boss was able to pick up our finished pieces two days later. I haven't seen mine yet, but I'm definitely excited. Thanks petroglyph for a fun afternoon!

I've been here probably 5 times now...  I love the idea - wish it were cheaper.

One visit was with my long time best friend and we were there for about 4 hours! It's such an awesome way to connect and have fun.

They charge about 10 bucks plus the cost of the piece, or pieces, you paint. They have a "frequent fire" card - three visits and the forth is free.

I'm a big fan of all things crafty so Petroglyph is right up my alley!  Many years ago there was a Petroglyph in Loehmann's Plaza where I spent many evenings decompressing during grad school.  Over the years I've spent way too much money coloring African violet pots, vases, picture frames, mugs, plates, coasters, tiles, etc., some I've kept and others I've given as gifts.

Petroglyph is the happiest place in Roseville and usually gets pretty crowded, best to call ahead to reserve a table to be sure you can get in.  Once you arrive, simply pick a piece of bisque (various prices, numerous choices), pay the studio fee (this includes all of your painting supplies), park yourself at a table and stay as long as you'd like (there's no time limit).  I'm a big cheater so I always start by peeking at all the finished pieces behind the register waiting to be picked up to filch the creative ideas of previous crafty customers.  I also wander around the studio to see what everyone else is painting.  Isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery anyway?

Painting pottery is hard work so feel free to leave your pottery and walk to Starbucks for a coffee break or to Dos Coyotes for dinner.  Or better yet, bring your own snacks and (adult) beverages with you!

Once you finish your pottery, the Petro staff will glaze and fire it for you and then you can pick up your finished gem a couple days later.

BONUS: "frequent fire card" - for every three studios fees the fourth studio fee is free!

My second time there, and I love this place.

It's a great get-away for my wife and I and is great for our daughter (6) as well.

Just pick your ceramic doo-dad of choice, choose your color palette, your WMD's (Weapons of Mass Decoration:  brushes, sponges, Q-Tips, stencils, sponge-stamps, etc.) and you're off!

There's no shortage of items to choose from from one visit to the next.  Items range from decorative and fun to functional.

Garden gnomes, dragons, piggy banks, coffee mugs, wall plaques and hanging geckos, all the way to wall switch-plates, tooth-brush holder, and even liquid soap dispensers.  For the kitchen, plates, bowls, trays, platters, utensil crocks, sups, etc.  Planter, flower pots, vases, you name it!

There is quite literally something for everyone in just about any mood.  Whether you're shopping in the same plaza and looking to kill an hour before you hit the road, or you want to plan some time to do something magnificent by yourself or with someone special, this is a great distraction and very relaxing.

We all need more of that in our life!

I like the fact that you can sit down and create a work of art while visiting with friends/family.  It's ok for kids who can sit for longer periods of time (at least 5 yrs old).

It can get expensive after buying the ceramics/paint and stuff.

    It's something I definitely wouldn't do often.

Fantastic place to spend time and a great conversation starter with children.  Plus, when they finish their projects and cleaning there is a great cave to escape to while you finish your project!  Just wish it was less expensive.  $69 total for 2 kids and 1 adult to do 1 project each, plus the studio time. But, you do get the 4th studio time free.:-)  I'll be back.

I LOVE this place! We went there for a staff retreat and our entire team had a blast. The staff were more than polite and extremely accomodating. I stayed quite late to perfect my masterpiece and they had no issue with it. In fact, they welcomed it. The young woman that helped me gave me her own personal stencils to use... she was super nice! I would DEFINITELY come back to this place. Lots of fun! :)

I threw a party for 10 women, and all of us have multiple children who will soon be the age to enjoy petroglyph.  I liked the pieces, and the paint, studio etc.  There were some factors though that I was unhappy with, to the point where I don't know if I will be throwing a party there again.  1st I had to give my credit card number to reserve a group space.  That is fine, I understand the need to secure the space.  Then, there was no way for me to reserve the pieces for the group without going to to the location and buying them in advance.  It isn't the buying, I would have to buy them anyway, but I live 30 min, from the studio with 3 kids and so it was not convienient.  Then, even though the party was the next weekend, they would not hold the pieces for me, even though they were paid for, and I had to wait half-an-hour while they wrapped each one and then transport them home, then bring them back on the day of the party.  Annoying.  Also, there is a $12 minimum per item for a group.  Well, the vase I liked was $11.  I asked if I could buy one way more expensive piece to make up the difference and they said no.  The next vase was $18.  Then they said they could charde me $12 for the $11 vase.  Awesome.  So that is what I had to do.  So, the party was good.  Everything else, not good.  As a parent I do not think I could handle doing this all again for a birthday party or something, nor do I want kids going in and chosing a $28 item as an alternative, so until these policies become more customer centered, I will not be booking any groups again:(
