Four stars for now.  For now.  Wasn't blown away, but it was a pretty solid sandy.  Just to reiterate on the points already made: cute old lady who is super friendly, tiny quaint spot, cheap sandwich.

I had the italian warm, and I was really into it.  Left quite full, as did my fellow eaters.  I would like to try the turkey delight and the turkey club and then I'll be back to complete my follow up.  You can try all three for right around a 20 spot!

If the woman who made my sandwich was any sweeter I would have cried, if my sandwich was nay better I would have cried.
There is just something about a sandwich made with positivity or at least the perception of positivity that makes it such a wonderful food.
I ordered a prosciutto sandwich which she walked me through every step of assembly making me feel like I was part of the process.
The flavor was fresh and good all punctuated with a lovely dressing. A sandwich can be so simple yet so complex in it's flavors and this one was just fantastic.
I will return here for certain!

overlooked for many many many year until one of my good friend recommended to have lunch here.

Petite deli is small, but has a couple of outdoor tables and chairs to enjoy your sandwiches on a nice sunny day. The asian lady in there is so sweet and patient with all the customers and complicated orders... she=petite deli; seems like she runs the whole joint. impressive.

Their sandwiches are outstanding, limited menu, but everything on there is great! however, not as great as freddies but could be a potential competitor due to their locale! the price is also great, alot cheaper than freddies, but i guess you're paying for less of the taste factor.

love the proximity to my place! great service, food, and price... can't beat that with a stick. def. coming back for future lunches!

Ahhhh, nothing like a homemade style sandwich. Tastes like your momma made it. The Turkey and avocado with cranberry sauce and fresh sourdough roll is amaazing.
Simple sandwiches but somehow tastes outstanding.

Yelp brought me here, I lived in North Beach Russian Hill for four years, but had never been here before (how was that possible).

The sandwich was good, not great, just good, but as everyone else has noted, the owner is as nice as it comes.

If the really sweet old lady who lived next door made tasty sandwiches, charged five dollars for them, giggled and did general cute shit while she made food - that would be the Petite Deli.
You want to cradle the owner in your arms and win the lottery and give her the money - after you pay your mortgage and go to Six Flag a couple of times of course.
The freakin club sandwich is good enough to wrestle a tiger for.

Some guy named Michael S. who didn't get asked to the junior prom gave this place 1 star - to offset all the high reviews .... great job guy - go back to Togo's, and get some of those factory made meatballs,  that way the line will get shorter at my favorite lunch spot.

Petite Deli - tip jar's not deep enough.

"Petite" may describe the physical size of this shoebox deli, and maybe even the sweet, adorable Korean lady who runs the joint from behind the counter.  However, "petite" certainly does not describe my appetite, the portion size of the sandwiches here, nor the amount of praise I have for this place!

I ordered a Turkey BLT, and honestly I wasn't expecting much based upon the appearance of the place.  I was gladly wrong and pleasantly surprised when I took my first bite - the honey dijon mustard and perfectly-crisped bacon tasted soooo delicious.  This made-to-order sandwich was so tasty, and I felt it was a truly great value for your money!  I was full after devouring the entire thing, and it was less than $7 all told!!  You really cant beat that when your other options in North Beach all charge waaay upwards of $7 for a hefty sandwich.

I'll definitely be frequenting this place more often and I recommend you try it too!  If you don't like it, then you really will only be short seven bucks.  But I know you'll enjoy this cute little place as much as I did!

Petite Deli is my favorite sandwich spot in North Beach.  Young, the Korean lady who owns and runs the little sandwich establishment touches a soft spot in the hearts of each and everyone customer who steps foot into her tiny shop.  She is so sweet and you can tell she makes everyone sandwich or salad with pride.  She runs the whole show by herself which I think is AMAZING considering the volume she gets especially during lunch time.  She comes in a couple hours early every day and prepares her special pasta and salads.

11am...it is show time and she doesn't get a single break until closing time at 4.  I work down the street and I come in for lunch during all times during the day...she always has a long line out the door...even at 2:45!  Take the advice and call ahead of time but she gets so busy that you might still have to wait quite a bit even if you call in your order just because she is only one woman and she is so popular.  Definitely worth the wait...the food lives up to the hype!  Get the Young's Chicken or the Turkey Delight on a soft roll.  My other favorite is the Greek salad with the macaroni salad on the side.  The portions are satisfying and if you haven't experience her sweetness yet...you'll know what I'm talking about the minute she takes your order.  ERIC APPROVED - 5 STARS!

Petite describes everything but the sandwiches!  The establishment itself is cottage like and you will be greated by the sweetest woman on earth! No really, she is so kind and welcoming that it almost seems like you are going to lunch at grandma's house.

On my first visit there, she recommended I try the "Turkey Delight." It's an unconventional combination: turkey, cranberry sauce, cheese, avocado and dijon mustard. I'll never go back to plain old turkey and cheese! Also, she warmed it up in a tiny toaster oven which made the cheese melt. So good.

This one-woman shop is a must see!

Petite location. Petite and charming lady making the food and working the counter. Petite prices ($5.50, and you can get a half for about half). Not so petite sandwiches.

What a gem, and judging from the number of people who were coming in and out, word is spreading. Bonus karma points for a business card that does a play on the nutrition label with such things as Total Goodness 100% DV, Yummy 100% DV, Flavor 100g.

Loved my turkey sandwich, watch out for a bit of spice in the mustard, and if they ever get wheat rolls, I'll happily revise with a fifth star.

THIS PLACE IS A GEM... Very small, I can barely fit into it (Though I am definitely not a small man). The only person behind the counter was one of the sweetest ladies. I had to run and get cash so I'm thinking this better be worth it... I order my sandwich which takes 15 minutes... The whole time I'm thinking this better be worth it...

After taking on bite, all that went away. One of the best damn sandwiches I've ever had.... Eat here, it's worth it

Was out for a walk when this little place beckoned. I am so glad I stopped in! Thankfully wasn't pressed for time b/c it ended up being a bit of a wait (was a little after 1). The wait was about 20 min but well worth it .

I ordered the Turkey Pastrami. The bread was toasted, cheese melted, perfect amount of mayo and mustard, meat was delish. Every bite was an absolute joy!

This place is small. Can seat 6 people in close quarters but there's outdoor seating too. The whole operation seems to be run by one adorable little lady. I felt a little bad because she seemed pretty wiped from taking orders, ringing people up, making sandwiches etc, but she was cheery the whole time. She even asked if I lived in the neighborhood and bid me a adieu with a sweet "Enjoy the day nice lady". I wish I did live in the neighborhood so I could enjoy these sandwiches more often.

Bless me Heavenly Father, I have sinned.
It has been 6 weeks since my last review.
My sins are as follows:

I ate a sandwich that was so delicious, I almost thought I would denounce the baby Jesus as your son.  But that sandwich was so good!  It's called the Turkey Delight and I am delighted to tell you that my life is now so much better for having that sandwich in my stomach.  I don't know if it's gonna save my life or whatever when I get to those pearly gates, but I can definitely say that I will probably be able to live my life as a better person.  And, let's face it, without Jesus around everyday telling me how I should behave, it's kind of hard to be a good boy.

But with Young behind the counter at Petite Deli putting together a sandwich for me, I'm gonna have to say that I will be as kind a person I can, because that sandwich has somehow raised my serotonin levels!  I'm a happy boy for that sandwich and I will praise the turkey delight all my life.

Not only do I praise it, but I'm going to write a gospel number about that and get people from all different races, all different shapes, sizes, sexual orientation, and all different religions!  And there's going to be dancing... and solos... and a float from the Gay Pride Parade... and... and... I'm gonna eat another sandwich, all while watching the magnificent production!

If you don't eat this sandwich and you don't eat at Young's fabulous Deli, I can't guarantee that your soul will be saved!

Considering I was born and raised in New York, I am always skeptical when people rave about great delis.  However, as I was vacationing in San Francisco I found one of the best delis I have ever visited.  I looked up this restaurant on Yelp and I decided to add it to my itinerary.

After visiting the famous Lombard Street I leisurely walked to Petite Deli, which was just a few short blocks away.  When I arrived, I found out that I needed cash - so warning for those of you who don't want to pay a surcharge to use the ATM at Burger Meister across the street, MAKE SURE YOU BRING CASH.

I ordered the Turkey Delight, and it was one of the most satisfying sandwiches I ever had.  The bread was perfect, great crust and soft on the inside.  The cheese was perfectly melted onto the turkey, and the cranberry sauce added another dimension of perfection.  The sandwich took 15 minutes to make, but I could tell that there was a tremendous amount of care and attention of detail into making the sandwich.  While I was waiting, the patrons ahead of me ordered a pastrami sandwich and a BLT.  Both smelled spectacular as they were being prepared, the bacon for the BLT is cooked to order!!!

Aside from the great sandwiches, the service was SPECTACULAR.  The deli is run by one lady, and she was really nice and helpful.  She suggested I order the turkey delight, and I cannot stress it enough that she makes everything to order.  It's a wait, but it's worth it.  When I left I gave her a $2 tip for a $8 meal (sandwich plus soda), she insisted that I take a soda for the road (I did not).  Afterwards, she gave me very helpful directions to my next destination, Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman's Wharf (just a 5-10 minute walk).

If you are vacationing in SF and you plan on sightseeing in the area, this is an excellent spot for lunch.  Take the historic cable car (PM line) to Lombard Street, walk down the hill to the deli, then walk to Fisherman's Wharf.  What a perfect day.

What a delightful little deli. The woman that runs this place is one of the sweetest people you can encounter. Not only does she handle every single order, she serves it with a smile. The sandwiches are a good size too...I have one half of mine left over. The business cards are clever too - they look like a nutrition facts label. Instead of going to a fancy way too expensive and overrated place in North Beach, go here instead. Everything about this place is petite, but the service is really good.  Don't be surprised if there's a line during lunch time...but it's worth the wait.

I've been meaning to try Petite Deli since I read these rave reviews ... and it's SO close to the apt.

I went, and as promised by all the reviews, there was an adorable, bright-eyed Korean woman at the counter with a smile. SUPER friendly and sweet lady.

I had the mozzarella, basil and tomato sandwich on a roll. She puts this mysterious delicious sauce on it -- it's kind of sweet (do I taste a splash of balsamic vinegar?), creamy (some sort of mayo - not at all overpowering though), and - oh my - spicy (dijon-y mustard).

Fresh ingredients. Good bread. Good portions. Made with love.  ..and on the cheap! $7 for the sandwich and a sparkling water.

It's been over a year since I discovered this gem, and I still patronize Petite Deli on a weekly basis.  Considering that I'm always trying new eateries, it says a lot to come back to the same spot, time and time again.  It's one place I know I can count on for a great cheap and filling lunch, with exceptional service.

As of late, I've been on a binge of her tofu sandwiches, but I had the mozzarella today after a long hiatus, and forgot how tasty it was; it was like biting into a slice of heaven.

I'm usually there not long after she opens.  Sometimes, it's completely empty.  Then there are days where the orders just never seem to stop coming in.  Either way, Young manages to keep her sanity, never seeming stressed.  Above all, she's as pleasant and vibrant as ever to each and every one of her customers, regular or not.

This past weekend, I fell in love with an older woman twice my age.  But wait, before you start calling me a "man whore," alert the AARP, or start throwing fresh vine ripen tomatoes at me, let me defend myself - or at least try.

After scouring the Yelp boards, I had come across a sandwich shop.  Hip hoping through the North Beach district, I had finally arrived.  With an elegant signage, I was excited to finally encounter this sandwich shop that had gained so much hype.

Growing up in Brooklyn delis, I expected a broad shouldered Italian butcher waiting to take my order.

Instead, a bright smiley faced petite Asian woman greeted me.  Despite being around my mother's age, her gentle smile and tender tone of voice reminded me of someone with a child-like heart.  Perhaps, her smirk gave me hope that she had not been jaded by failure or broken relationships in this so ever complex world.

Nevertheless, she introduced her menu.
"I'll have the turkey with Swiss on ciabatta."

Arriving warm, the bread started the symphony.  Nutty notes from melted Swiss cheese paired well with the turkey slices.  Minor notes that amplified the experience included a dressing with tartness and sweetness, all from the mix of mustard and honey.

My stomach was filled, but my questions in regards to the popularity of this place left unanswered.  As I dug deeper, I found more treasures.

Arriving from Korean in the seventies, Young started working in corporate America.  Trying to adjust to a foreign culture and not being confident since she did not speak English well, she recalls the few nights she stayed up crying.  Instead of keeping her face down against the pillow, she took English courses.  After a corporate lay off, she decided to start her sandwich store around fifteen years ago.

As each and every sentence she uttered linked into a triumphant story, I want to give her a vibrant hi-five.  All the while, I saw repeat customers come and go.  Young knew each person's name and greeted them with a constant smile.

Perhaps in this climate of layoffs and uncertainty, a gesture of respect, acknowledgement and comfort food comes a long way. Despite having offers to expand, Young wanted to keep this place to herself.

In short, Young had provided "soul food" sandwiches.  Not only did she serve good food, she was my comfort food provider, unofficial shrink, and a constant giver of radiant energy.  Much more, Young's story is more about an immigrant who went through hurdles but never stopped trying.

As an immigrant from Hong Kong, I gained a new spot for sandwich but more importantly, a new perspective on life.  Slowly with my head up, I exited as if the world was still ahead of me.

P.S.: My next stop is Ike's for sammies.  The last time I saw Ike, we were playing kick ball in middle school.

Unhurried.  Snug.  Petite!

The lady there really does get 5 stars for her friendliness!  Ahjoomah annyoung ha seh yo!  ^_^

Besides a little bit of a wait (8-10 minutes for 3 sandwiches at 11:30), this place is pretty straightforward, no frills.

NY Pastrami: Delicious, paper-thin, warm, mouth watering pastrami layered inches high on a soft toasted ciabatta roll.  Slather on some tangy sweet honey mustard and melt on some oozy provolone and bam!  Miracle in your mouth!

Turkey Delight: (the Thanksgiving sandwich) Sprouts, avocado, turkey, and, cranberry sauce for $6.50?!  I'm there!

Wow, 4 hours later, and I realize I'm still full from that sandwich - it's deceivingly small and a flavor blast of fun!

Know Before You Go:
1. Order in before you go if you are in a hurry!  Otherwise, enjoy the scenery in beautiful North Beach!
2. CASH ONLY! - ATM across the street at Burger Meister though!

Alright, I might have been a tad hasty.

It still takes a long time, since this North Beach operation is run by just one, exceedingly nice lady. So if you're hungry and didn't call ahead, you're SOL.

But this is a damn good sandwich for a damn good price ($6.50). Roast beef with avocado on wheat was delish, and the Dijon mustard is still a nice departure from the norm.

After a so-so roast beef sandwich at nearby Cafe Francisco recently, I appreciate this spot even more.

I'm a sandwich freak. Step one: Admit you have a problem.

I recently started a new job near Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39. For those who don't know, suffice it to say, that's a culinary no-man's land. I love Trader Joe's, but yeah, it's about the best we've got.

Occasionally, I like to venture up Powell for random North Beach eats. Tara had told me about Petite Deli, and we decided to try it.

Places that are stripped-down, have one person in their employ, etc., have a place in my heart. Yes, you will have to wait awhile for your grub here, but it will so be worth it. Made with TLC by the owner (?), your sandwich will be just this side of perfection. You'll go back to work happy+full, just in time for siesta.

So, the real significance of PD is its ability to really shine in an otherwise deadened corner of town.

I started working in North Beach about 2 months ago and Petite Deli is just around the corner.  My coworkers told me about this place and per yelpers I decided to try the curry tofu sandwich.  It may sound odd for tofu to be in a sandwich and curried for that matter but it's SO GOOD!

The owner, Young, is a sweet Korean lady who is chatty and very friendly.  She takes time to make everything with care so you should call ahead for your sandwich before you pick it up unless you don't mind the wait, especially when she gets busy your sandwiches might take a little longer.  Overall, I come here maybe twice a week and I'm never disappointed!

Some of my favorites are:
Curry Tofu Sandwich (veg)
Turkey Delight
Roast Beef
Garden Burger (veg)

Not as "amazing"as everyone says. Honestly.

I had the Turkey Delight and while it was a good sandwich (and Young was VERY nice), it wasn't worth the 40 minute wait at 2:00pm on a Saturday. The sandwich itself was very ordinary... she uses Oroweat (you know, bread you buy at Safeway)!!!

Petite Deli makes AMAZING sandwiches.  My boyfriend loves to come here at least once a week for lunch. =)

I finally got the opportunity to try one of the sandwiches after hearing so much great things about it.  My boyfriend got me a chicken salad sandwich ($5.50).  The sandwich was huge, and each half was individually wrapped in wax paper.  The bread tasted really fresh.  I love the chicken salad filling, too.  I was surprised about the large amount of filling inside the sandwich.  When I squeezed the sandwich to bite into it, some of the filling would fall out..lol.

5 stars for really tasty sandwiches for only $5.5!!!

This place was absolutely lovely.
It's small, but the reason why I find it so lovely is because the lady who made the sandwiches was absolutely pleasant and made my day wonderful.
She was full of friendly greetings and an inviting smile when I made my order and even gave a discount!

I ordered the turkey delight and what I found that was so unique about this sandwich is that it had cranberry.
Now there are other times where I've had a sandwich with cranberry in it, but usually its the actual cranberry and many times I don't really taste its presence. However, this sandwich had the cranberry jelly, which brought a sweet subtle taste to the sandwich.
Along with the avocado and the bean sprouts and the soft roll that I had cold it was absolutely refreshing on the warm sunny day I came to Petite Deli.

I look forward to going again. The only thing you should keep note of is, if your driving a car keep in mind that you might have a hard time finding parking. So you might have to park a little far, but at least the walk to the Deli is great!

Used to go here from 2003-2007. Ever needed some soul replenishing from grandma's kitchen? Petite Deli is the place to go. Literally I tried everything on the menu, made with 100% TLC. Yong (owner/chef) will make double and triple decker sandwichs if basic are not enough. Occassionaly she would bring a complimentary cup of soup to our table.

Before anyone wants to say something bad about Yong's timing. Remember she does EVERYTHING by herself 100%. The amount of pride and love she puts into everything...it's not going to be quick. Imagine Italian grandma making pasta.

I'm a meat eater but the Tofu curry sandwich is to die for. Made with tofu, curry and other spices food processed and turned into handmade patties when Yong is not open. Another bonus about the place. When Yong's not open she's still doing prep for her customers.

I ordered a hot dog once, thinking there's now way she can fancy up a dog. It was the best fricking dog I ever ate. I didn't know a hot dog would be so good.

When you go, try two or three things and don't be afraind to try something you normally would not order. Thanks for the memoreis Yong.

Been coming here since I was in kindergarten. After school (Sts. Peter & Paul), my dad would pick up a hot pastrami on white for me. The sandwiches are to-die-for! Young is the sweetest lady and I remember she used to give me candy bars and her home-made brownies for free when I came in. This place is a perfect hole in the wall and I haven't seen it since its renovation. It used to be pink and only have two tables inside. I recommend this place to anyone who loves great service and great food.

Let me start off with why this place has such deserving remarks - it's not just about the sammies. So, if you are looking for a purely intoxicating, overflowing goodness of a sandwich, I'm not sure this is your place. (I'd head to Ikes and Marina Submarine for that)

However, the sandwiches are quite tasty - and the fact that the little old woman smiles and is the sweetest thing ever, makes my heart melt. You can't help but have a good day after visiting this tiny shop. I tried the chicken salad, and it was unique and tasty, but nothing to rave over just by taste. I give props to the woman, who makes each one with a little TLC - that's what makes this place so special.

I love sandwiches as much as the next person, so when we were visting from out of town, I needed to try this place out! The owner was the sweetest little lady that I have ever met, she was very nice and helpful in helping us decide what sandwiches to order. I would come back here again, JUST FOR HER.

The sandwiches, my boyfriend had the NY Pastrami sandwich on ciabatta.  We took the sandwiches to go and ate around the corner at the park.  She individually wrapped our sandwiches so that they'll be easier to eat on the go =) His sandwich was really good and just had something a bit extra that put that ump into it. I had the turkey sandwich, which wasn't anything spectacular, except that it tasted really fresh. But then again, it wasnt because the sandwich was mediocre, it was just that I picked a blah sandwich.

The little sandwich shop is definitely petite.  With one gentleman sitting and enjoying his sandwich, another in line ahead of me and one gentleman in line behind me this space already felt crowded.

The Asian lady behind the counter was so wonderful, full of smiles and compliments about the great weather we've been having.  She apologized for having to wait in line; although, in truth it was a very short wait.

I had a turkey sandwich.  The lady held up the ciabatta roll and squeezed it gently in between her two fingers to show me how soft the roll was.  I had it with lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard.  The mayo was sweet and they don't use regular yellow mustard; the mustard had just a hint of spice to it.  I didn't watch as the sandwich was being made, but I was quite surprised to look inside the bag to find that each sandwich half was wrapped individually so it looked like there were two sandwiches in the bag.  Yes, it seems she put a lot of care into preparing my sandwich order.

It's regular deli turkey, but the sandwich was very good with the mayo-mustard mixture dripping all over my hands.  It was very filling too.  A seagull in the park helped me finish the last bite of the ciabatta roll.  I had my sandwich with a vitamin water and a soft chocolate chunk cookie for under 8 bucks.  I'll definitely go back if I'm in the area.

I love this lady and I love her sandwiches.  She has to be the cutest thing in North Beach and her sandwiches are incredible.  It takes a bit of time because the sandwiches really are made from love, but it's well worth the wait.  Not much area to sit, but great to grab a sando and head to the park.  Turkey Delight is out of this world!  If you go during a weekday lunch, call in your order to avoid a 20 minute wait.

Great sandwiches.  I love the turkey delight.  We usually either call in or take a walk around the block while we're waiting because it's so busy there.

The lady who runs the place is very sweet and a little ditzy.  At my office, we call this place "CSL" for Crazy Sandwich Lady.

Yummy for my tummy. LOVE the sweet lady that owns it. However, don't get a sandwich made with deli meat. It's not that great. I suggest:
1. Tofu Sandwich (the tofu has curry in it! yes please)
2. Fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil
3. Chicken (not turkey) sandwich
4. Chicken club
5. Egg salad (yum)

You can't really go wrong with any of those.
