Hey Vegans, if you tell Petit Soleil ahead of time that you have a restricted diet they'll accommodate your needs for breakfast!

2 years ago I spent a week in Paris by myself.  I was still an omnivore back then and I was staying at a small hotel in the Latin Quarter that provided breakfast every morning included in the cost of the stay.  Every morning I dined in the tiny dining room that also served as the lobby of the hotel.  I had my baguette with nutella, cafe au lait and orange juice before leaving to tackle the museums for the day.  I'd return to the hotel late at night and converse in english with the front desk before retiring to my room.  Traveling alone was liberating but also felt very isolating.  My little hotel felt like home and by the time my trip was over I was sad to leave the little family who worked there, who made my bed, who fed me breakfast, who tried to help me with simple french phrases.

While I made this trip to SLO with the dr. and I didn't need the B&B staff to serve as my mini-family, staying at Petit Soleil made me feel like I was back at Hotel Familia in Paris.  The quaint decor and the courtyard are nice.  You can rent the bikes they have in the bike racks near the front door.  Turn down service included a card with the weather for the next day plus truffles. L'Occitane (i know! the good stuff!) amenities in the bathroom were provided.  They provide wine and appetizers in the early evenings.  When I returned to the B&B and wanted to unwind after a yoga class, I went to the dining area and the girls hooked me up with some tea as they cleaned up after wine service and let me sit and write.

There are so many nice little details about this place that made for a lovely stay.  Bonus points for being walking distance from Downtown SLO.

I'm glad we ended up staying here and not at the Madonna Inn (which, from seeing from afar, I totally don't get).

As our anniversary approached my hubby yelped and found this amazing b&b in SLO.

Great decor, comfy bed, fantastic friendly staff, amazing food.

appetizers and wine in the evening, yummy fresh made food in the morning who could ask for more :)

4 stars only for the fact that theres no air conditioning in the room. the fan could only do so much.

but all in all, we'll definitely come back

I stumbled upon this place in a travel book and decided to book a night's stay while passing through the area.  I was only expecting clean sheets and a sanitary bathroom since I had just spent 5 nights camping.

When I arrived it was like stepping into a little piece of France.  The owners have apparently spent time in Europe and collected antiques and decorations in order to transform this once southwest style motor inn into a French boutique style B&B.  The spacious room was compete with a tiole King Bedspread and an antique armoire.  The details did not stop with the decorations; they even supply you with soaps and lotions form L'Occitane en Provence.  I soaked in the tub and started to feel human again.

The B&B offers complimentary wine tasting in the evening but I was out to dinner while this was going on.

The bed was quite possibly the best bed I have slept in ever,  I fell asleep and did not wake until it was breakfast time.  Speaking of breakfast; I had the waffles and omelet!  It was simply to die for!  the best breakfast I've ever had.

I hope to make it over there again and stay for more than one night.

***FYI: I hear that many people stay here on their honeymoon.

Also, the price was VERY reasonable!!!

We enjoyed our stay.  Convenient location, within walking distance to downtown.   Staff is incredibly attentive and helpful.  The food was our favorite part: don't miss the happy hour munchies + wine and the hearty breakfast.

Room was small but comfortable.  They really pay attention to the details  The only thing is, you might want to shut the windows at night; otherwise, be prepared for some dumpster noise in the morning.

I'll start the review by saying that my wife and I left Santa Barbara to come back for another night and are already planning our next trip to Petit Soleil. It's wonderful!

Our first night there began by checking-in and being greeted by the friendliest girls. One of whom is the owner's daughter. We then were wowed by our beautiful room (Le Chantecleer). Next was wine and cheese (complimentary no less). We borrowed the hotel's bikes for a wonderful ride around SLO, tasting wine and having dinner at Petra's close by.

Next morning we headed out, but not before a great breakfast featuring the BEST french toast I HAVE EVER HAD!

The visit was so great and our stay in Santa Barbara so disappointing, that we decided to come back for another night on our way to San Jose. Again, great room (Vendange). We will be back again and again...What a little gem Petit Soleil was.

Though it has been two years since I have been to Petit Soleil, it left a lasting impression with me. My wife and I stopped there in the middle of a honeymoon road trip. The services that this place provided were over the top. They spoiled us and really made that part of our honeymoon memorable. The food they prepare is wonderful. The people who work there are very friendly.

Very good for couples, but families would enjoy themselves too, I'd imagine.

Go!

This place definitely lived up to the high rating on Yelp. We spent a weekend here and even though the room was small, it was beautiful and charming nonetheless. Bed was super comfortable and even though our bathroom didn't have a tub, the shower was just as nice and  they use L'Occtaine bath products, which is a plus.

In our room on the second floor, the bathroom window opened to a backyard with lots of plants and a bathtub fountain(?), it was really nice to listen to the water splashing.

The staff were super nice and breakfast was delicious. Completely worth the four hour drive to SLO for this perfect weekend getaway.

It's also next door to Splash cafe, convenient if you just want to grab a quick bite. Their cookies are really good.

This is a quaint little place run by Francophiles - everything is French, from L'Occitane bath products to the music. The service was excellent - yes, the Cal Poly girls who worked there were all lovely and helpful, and we met the owners on our last day (she: friendly, him: gruff/unfriendly).

We stayed in "La Cage Au Folles" (appropriate!), room 28, and, apart from being disturbed by a 5 AM delivery truck on Monday morning and the trains on Tuesday morning, we couldn't have asked for more. Hence, I would recommend you get a room at the back...

Mumsy and I both thought the beds were comfy, the bathroom was beautiful and the decorations so reminiscent of a stylish French country cottage. The food was good too - breakfast was laid out fruit, cereals, tea/coffee, and a hot dish of a choice of two (quiche/waffles one morning, egg scramble/pankcakes another), and breads, scones, etc. However, I did pop next door to the Splash Cafe for my morning cafe mocha.

I'd definitely go back there again, but again, in a room near the back.

Right up front:  these four stars are really 4 1/2.  The only MINOR bummer was that both me and mom thought that the owners were a little too comfortable turning over concierge services to a bunch of Cal Poly girls (good looking and nice as they were).

anyway....

the suite that we booked was so genuine, neither one of us doubted that we'd just got transported to the south of France via some Calvin (and Hobbes) imagination-land transmogriphiar....

I'm gonna try to figure out how to post the pics, but please believe that the Joie de Vivre Suite exceeded every singe expectation. Every  aesthetic obligation to the French status quo was simply and ably met.  The shower was the highlight.  Stone wraparound and a waterfall spigot.  Every accent (clock, wall art, Rococo) helped alleviate the misconception that we were still in Cali.

Brunch was solid.  Moms got a vegetable-infused Strata and I opted for the waffles.  Both fresh and tasty.

And in the afternoon they pour as much free wine as you want.

Viva la Central Coast!

Would give 6 stars if I could :). A very whimsical and charming B&B. We loved our stay here - the owners have really paid attention to details and were able to recreate the feel of Provence. I also dug that they were fans of http://etsy.com (yay for supporting local artists!)! The breakfast and tasting hour were gourmet and delicious!!! Also, loved that you could borrow the bicycles out front for a tour of SLO. Will definitely stay here in the future!

We were in SLO visiting this weekend without knowing exactly where to eat. We popped into this BnB the night before just to check it out but it was too late since we had already gotten accommodations. I called my brother in Ohio the following morning asking him to look some things up on Yelp and he told us this was the place to go!

As we entered the BnB, the girl behind the counter told us to sit down wherever and explained to us that we could eat whatever was out and that she'd come in a little bit to tell us what was in the oven. So we made our rounds grabbing some toast and coffee and OJ and fresh fruit and bread.

The dining area (and BnB) had that quaint, European experience. There are 4 or 5 tables inside and as many on the patio. There was 1920's-30's jazz-like music in the background that really did make you feel like you weren't in the US any more. It was so inviting that even if the food sucked, it was worth checking out!

She came by after a few minutes to tell us the two options were strata with mushrooms and pancakes with fruit. We opted with the stata. It was amazing- I have never had such an excellent dish for breakfast! The bread base, eggs and cheese were blended perfectly where no ingredient stood out too much. After polishing off this dish she came back to see if we were up for seconds. Why not try the pancakes? These pancakes were homemade wheat (maybe buckwheat) with fresh fruit both inside and outside of the pancakes. Again, it was so delicious I just wanted more! (Probably the best pancakes I've ever had without exaggeration!).

As we are eating and looking around we start getting a little suspicious. Everyone was just ordering whatever but no one is really paying for anything. When the girl went back to her desk I sneaked over there to have a little conversation. I asked her how much breakfast was since it never came up in conversation. She's like: "It's included. You're a guest here so it's part of the price'". I told her that we weren't guests and she just died laughing. She thought it was hysterical. (We ended up agreeing on a fair price to cover breakfast).

She was the epitome of this place- fun, nice, carefree yet particular and was only concerned about our dining experience. She encouraged us to just have a great time, to enjoy our stay and breakfast without feeling rushed. It's rare these days that you come across such hospitality esp when you "illegally" park yourself within an amazing dining experience!

We've stayed here twice and both times the service and place were great.  The last stay was for 3 days and when I mentioned (not complain) that the TV remote didn't work they not only moved us to a larger room for the first 2 nights, on the third night they gave us the suite, all at no extra cost.  The breakfasts were delicious and the rooms were great, all three of them.  We'll defintely go back.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! This is a completely cute bed and breakfast, while not being anything close to what you would expect.

The staff is uber-nice (especially the night girl, I think her name was jill?), and they were super accommodating. Some of the rooms are very themed out (the chocolate room reminds me of something that could be in a scary movie with those little kids), while others are just more European in flavor. I love the fact that they use L'Occtaine bath products.

I ended up buying the cookbook, I loved the spiced almonds they served so much. If I go down that way again, i would definitly stay!

I love, love, love this place!!  My boyfriend picked this b&b out as the last leg of a CA road trip, and it was wonderful! By far, the best b&b I've ever stayed in.

The Innkeepers and hostesses were SO friendly. We were welcomed with a wine-tasting and some delicious hors d'oeuvres (so good that I bought their recipe book). The wine was excellent, and they also sold the bottles a flat cheap price, and I know some that we bought were worth much more than that. The breakfast was colorful, amazing, and filling. They use locally grown produce from farmer's market, various cheeses, fresh-pressed olive oil and homemade breads.

The rooms were clean and really, really cute, but not too overdone. A lot of thought was put into the decor and it showed. Our room had some really neat French pieces in it. The beds were firm and comfortable, and they supply the rooms with L'Occitane products. I think there was a train track or something outside our room's rear bathroom window, but if we kept the bathroom door shut, it wasn't bothersome.

Really a lovely place, and I look forward to my next stay here.

Since it was recommended by Frommer's, was cheaper than the other better known B&B a few doors down, Apple Farm Inn, and from the website photos wasn't adorned in all of the Victorian floral crap you usually expect from a B&B, we decided to try this out on a recent visit.  The smallish bathroom and room probably warrant just three stars, but I am a sucker for charm and cute, so this place gets another one.  For instance, the door to the rooms has that old-world-style metal plate that covers the keyhole that you have to flip up in order to stick your key in.  It is, in fact, inefficient and problematic.  Yet, I found it to be a simultaneously charming and annoying feature.

We stayed in the Chocolat room which has potentially disturbing sort of Trompe 'oeil art of children frolicking with dribbles of chocolate sauce down the walls.  The bath includes a tile stall shower which could use more water pressure, and a pedestal sink  that doesn't offer much surface space to lay out the makeup bag.  There are ample towels, qtips, cotton balls and L'Occitane products for use.  Both bathrobes in the closet, while plump and warm, were XL and way too gigantic to be comfortable.

In the morning til around 10 or so, they offer one (of a choice of two) hot item for breakfast plus a buffet of continental items like fruit, yogurt, pastries, etc.  The breakfasts were pretty tasty.  In the early evenings are wine tastes and appetizers in the same main (small) dining area.  They have turndown service at 7pm, where they give you handmade chocolate truffles and a little card of information on what the local temperature for the next day will be.  There is fresh coffee all day.

Cable TV, free wifi access.  About 4 blocks or so from what you'd consider to be "downtown" SLO.  Our room was on the second floor, facing the street, and on a weekday you can hear the streetsweeping machine (I think) go up and down sl-o-o-wly on the street very, very early in the morning.

If you are cool with "new rustic", then this is a pretty affordable option.  If you are annoyed by amenities and space that don't perform as modern and spacious, then maybe try another place.

A beautiful and charming bed and breakfast, located only a short distance from downtown.  The colorful design only enhances the different theme each room has.  The room all have their own private bathroom (mine didn't have a bathtub though).  The breakfast they made was delicious.  It was definitely a very romantic and fun weekend here in SLO.

I think I could have had a 5-star experience if...

...I didn't have the upstairs corner room that: was above some suite that would play music loudly, had a bus stop in front of it with windows facing a busy street.
...the service was a little better/more attentive...felt like college kids running the place because that's what the staff was. My first night, the happy hour wine was put away already when I went down 15 minutes before it was to end and the food was gone.
My first breakfast, no one greeted me to tell me what I had to do and there wasn't a place to sit inside. The outside patio was nice but COLD...heat lamp was out of gas! They were also out of one of the dishes. Then I overheard someone talking very loudly about the B&B business and money, etc. and it just killed the relaxing atmosphere.
My second breakfast, they told me they said they only had a "backup quiche" left besides the other dish. I didn't understand if they were trying to persuade me to not order the quiche so they wouldn't have to heat it or what?

Three stars are for good location, good bath products, cute decor and nice bed. Would give it another chance only if I could get an interior room.

Price was right and it's very cute and centrally located. I lived in SLO for several years and came back to visit with a friend and stayed here. They've made the most of their space and though the rooms were cozy (read: small) they were nicely laid out and planned and everything we really needed was there. The beds were top notch and I slept great, even with the train behind my head.

A little bit of France in the heart of San Luis.  This b&b is a dream.  Each room is so beautifully and uniquely done.  They put a cd of french music on each evening and turn down the bed.  There is a wine and appetizer time every evening in the courtyard/dining area.  The breakfasts are wonderful.  I can't wait to go back.  This is a really well-done and well loved inn.

Loved it! Petit Soleil is a great place to stay.  Each of the rooms is simple, warm and thoughtfully decorated.  Not your typical flowery Victorian b&b. And the breakfast is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.  Note that it is a former motel, beautifully converted into a b&b, but still motel style architecture with two stories of rooms and an open courtyard.  My only complaint would be that the rooms at the front of the b&b face a busy street, so can get noisy.  Request a room closer to the back and you are set!

We have stayed there twice now and love it.  Neat place, extremely comfortable and decorated with a lot of charm and creativity.  Very comfortable beds.  The people that work there are the absolute best. They are knowledgeable, accomodating and genuinely interested in their customers.  The breakfast is incredible.  It is a gourmet meal.  They always have fresh fruit, juice coffee cake, cereal etc. and then have two special dishes each day.  One day I had stuffed french toast that was outstanding and the other day I had a Quiche that was also terrific.  My wife had a ham and asparagus strata one day and Pancakes with pears another day and loved both dishes. We have had 4 breakfast's there in our two stays and everyone is different and outstanding.  We bought the cookbook this visit which contains their many recipes.  Nice wine and cheese treats in the afternoon.  We will always stay there when we visit SLO
