So, I still really like Cafe Muse's veggie burger the best, but Pete's Place is a really close second. So tasty, full of texture, and obviously homemade. I had it served on a bed of lettuce with a slice of gruyere on top, but would next time decide to order it over sauteed spinach.

The waitress was really accommodating, and was more than flexible when I asked if I could have the pineapple with rum sauce dessert without rum sauce, ice cream, or any of the extras. So, ultimately, I just had some deliciously grilled pineapple.

Watching how kind they were to my grandfather, and tasting how carefully things were prepared, I will be back . . . no doubt about it.

We ate at Pete's 2-3 years ago and the food was excellent but the service was not so great.  We decided to give it another shot today.

We stopped in for Sunday brunch.  It's too bad they don't have a bar for mimosas and bloody mary's.   A waiter was nice enough to move our table when we said the first seating was too close to a loud, annoying customer.  However, our waitress was inattentive, slow, and disinterested. She did not provide table service, rarely checked up on us, did not remove dirty dishes when she did stop by, and was slow to get us our bill.

Food: the coffee is laced with cinnamon - "yuk" said my dining partner.  There should be two options, cinnamon or not.  You don't mess with people's coffee.  I ordered lobster bisque for my appetizer.  It was delicious, but there was a large crostini floating on the surface - hard to eat without making a mess until the crostini became mushy.  My partner had a croissant; it was mediocre.  We each ordered a platter of 2 poached eggs (they gave us 3), potatoes, baked apples, toast, and  turkey sausage.  The poached eggs were the BEST I have ever had, and that is why I am giving 2 stars instead of 1. The potatoes arrived cold.  The toast was acceptable. The apples didn't fit.  However, the turkey sausage was apparently undercooked.  It tasted like turkey (I have never had turkey sausage that actually tasted like turkey, but I figured maybe it was house-made and somehow special) and then.....about an hour later I had diarrhea.  I still do...8 hours later....  There is nothing I ate in the past two days that could have caused this.

The ambience is cute with the Broadway posters, but the place needs sound treatment. It is too loud, like a diner.  The feel they are going for is not a diner, and that's why the noise is a problem.  The ceilings aren't even high, so the sound level is confusing.  Again, the service is not good.

The place was alright, but I expected a bit more in the lines of service, and food quality. I got a corned-beef reuben that was pretty bland, and my girlfriend got a panini that was just alright. 3 servers, 4 tables, total time from seating to bill was 1 hour and 12 minutes. We were close to the kitchen and could hear them laughing and joking. No one came by to ask if the food was alright. I had to go back into the server area to get our servers attention. I was not impressed, but I've had worse.

Also, the quarters are pretty cramped and you'd feel bad carrying on a full conversation with another table near by.

Finally checked out Pete's Place. Nice ambiance, attentive server and my meal was so great! You get a lot for what you spend here-- and I don't just mean portion size. Pete's will definitely be put on my regular rotation of dining out options.

I was very surprised to find this restaurant here - I had no idea it was there.  We really enjoyed our dinner - my husband (who has eaten at Pete's place several times) and I met up after work to eat a quick meal and let traffic die down before heading home.  We both had pasta and it was very good.  Service was good, food was delivered shortly after ordering, and the interior is quite nice.  I was very pleased with my veggie pasta (with pesto), but everything I saw being served looked quite good.   We will be back!

I'm mildly ashamed that I have eaten here enough (or more like ordered take-out here enough) to the point where I can give a suggestion on almost every menu item- all of which are delicious! The brunch is not to be missed. No mimosas, but for a small corking fee you can feel free to bring your own champagne. There's a cozy atmosphere and it's an ideal place for a brunch/lunch date (ooh la la!). It is small, but there are plenty of windows so that is not at all a disadvantage. If you haven't been here, then I suggest you get on it!

I really wanted to give a better rating. However, the food was mediocre and a bit on the pricey side. I started with a pretty decent lobster bisque so I anticipated a better entree than was presented.
Our table had Deep Fried Calamari...Horrible. Over cooked and rubbery. Not a fan of frozen calamari that look like onion rings.
I ordered the Pasta Mezzogeorno. It LOOKED like a 5 star plate and tasted like a 2 star diner special. A guy at our table had the fish and chips and said they were "decent". Overall, it was underwhelming. Would I go back? Ehh..Maybe.

I feel kind of bad giving Pete's 3 stars, but I really don't know if they deserve anything more...I really want to like Pete's, but they just don't seem to measure up. I've been five or so times now for both breakfast and dinner and neither really woos me. The first dinner I had there was amazing, I ordered the salmon with orzo and swiss chard. It was seasoned perfectly and just really delicious. I went back a week or two later and ordered the same thing and it was not the same, at all. It was completely under seasoned and prepared totally different even though it was the same dish. I was so disappointed. Consistency is so important to me, and they just don't have that. I do really like they they do BYO wine, which really helps to cut the cost of dinner.

For breakfast, I've ordered scrambled eggs which were barely cooked (so gross to me...I guess others like them runny). I also ordered the french toast with strawberries which was definitely better, just still missing something too. It wasn't very sweet, which is nice sometimes but it almost felt like they added no sugar at all to what I believe is a sweet breakfast. You may just have to try it for yourself to see what you think...but I think I'm over it...

Last Saturday my Dad really wanted to grab a bite at Pete's after his last visit when he had the cod sandwich, which he raved about. This was my third visit and while I'm all for local and off the beaten path spots this one always leaves me a bit indifferent. The food is always pretty good but the ambiance-well let's just say I'm not a fan of the set up.

I've eaten inside twice and outside for brunch once but the first two times were a while ago so let's lead with this last visit. We ordered the chips and guacamole which was very good but maybe had a little too much citrus in the guac. Additionally, the pesto gnocchi for the table was OK but a little heavy and dense for gnocchi-the pesto was very nice however. I ordered the Backstage burger medium with swiss and fresh fruit as a side. The burger was close to medium, juicy and delicious with caramelized onion and bacon and the fresh fruit side was fantastic. A huge blackberry (only 1), grapes, melon and strawberry slices that unfortunately came in a small silver condiment cup. I would've enjoyed a bit more fruit considering it was replacing fries but it was quality produce.

My Dad had the Chicken Marsala. I was unimpressed with the piece he shared with me.

My special lady friend ordered the turkey bacon panini with fries which was very tasty.

I thought that Pete's originally served at least beer and wine which I may be wrong about. Now you have the option of bringing your own wine in which is kind of cool.

The floor layout is compact and cramped. Tables are closely set to one another and with all the memorabilia on the wall, if you're claustrophobic you'll need a Valium to eat in. Saturday the dining room was blisteringly hot but a little too windy for the patio, which is a nice option for brunch on a warm morning.

I like the concept of the restaurant and the food is decent or better I only wish it was a little less galley like. But that being said, I'd recommend Pete's to friends looking for an interesting dine in.

This past weekend I had breakfast for the first time at Pete's Place. It's almost amazing to me that somehow they have evaded being the destination for a Fancy Breakfast Thursday excursion, but alas, they did. I had previously had dinner at Pete's Place with the most fabulous Ryan L. several years ago, but just never found my way back. When I found myself up far too early on a Sunday morning and online, my friend Kurt K. messaged me on book and asked about grabbing some brekkies. Do we say "brekkies?" I think we can.

Pete's Place, from what I know, was opened up by the same people/person? who used to own a gay bar on Woodward back in the day. I might be way wrong, but this is what I've heard. The restaurant is set up to give you that Manhattan touristy bistro type feel. The walls are all stark grey and lined with playbills and posters from everyone's favorite shows; there's something special about having a roller skating power couple from Starlight Express watch over your meal.

Remarkably for being kind of close to noon, post most church services, there was not a wait to be seated. Perhaps it's because they're off the main drag of Woodward, instead, tucked away on Woodward Heights. The one thing I will say about the seating is that it makes me feel almost a little up tight, but I think it's just because there are lots of seats in this small space. There are bench booth seats paired with wicker chairs, almost like those high school year book props, but not that extravagant.--actually, my wicker chair was quite comfortable.

The brunch menu was pretty varied. There were about 6 omelet options, along with standard breakfast fare. I was tempted to order the marscapone stuffed French Toast served with an espresso/Kahlua syrup, but instead settled on the Eggs Asparagus Benedict sans tomato. Kurt had an omelet. My dish consisted of two perfectly poached eggs atop English muffins, with asparagus and Hollandaise sauce, roasted potatoes, and a small metal ramekin of magical and delicious baked apples. And a very small wedge of bonus watermelon. Actually, the presentation was very nice, and the eggs were perfectly prepared. The last time I had poached eggs out they were over done. And yes, I do order poached eggs sometimes--maybe I really am 73? Kurt enjoyed his omelet, though in the description it said they were made "Frittata" style, and I didn't think it looked that way at all.

One thing I would say about Pete's Place is the portions are probably closer to what one should consume, as opposed to the meals that are three times the size of your stomach that you eat anyways. The food is pleasant. And the coffee has a a hint of cinnamon! Hello, fancy! I was happy to intake my caffeine thinking fondly about how much I love musical theatre, just because it is all around you in the dining room. I wish the dishes had thematic names like the Evita Eggs Benedict or You're a Good Man Charlie Hash Browns.

There is a small outdoor eating area. Had it not been a million point five degrees out we might have considered it. Pete's Place is also open for dinner. It might make a quaint place for a date. The menu is varied enough including salads, sandwiches, pasta, etc. The service was friendly and quick--I don't think my coffee cup was ever empty, praise Jesus Christ, Superstar.

Dearest Pete's Place,  you're enough to make me get out of bed early on Sunday morning to get breakfast-- and that's saying a lot!

The coffee is fantastic! What is it that they add? A hint of Cinnamon? Nutmeg? Whatever it is, I love it! Just the perfect little note to add some depth to the taste.

The service is always top-notch. All of the servers I've had were extremely friendly and very attentive. The prices are reasonable for the quality/portion, and the atmosphere can only be defined as "charming."

Highlights for me have included the Smoked Salmon Platter, The Asparagus and Brie omelet,  Lobster Bisque and the Eggs Benedict. Jonny P. mentioned the potatoes, and I have to as well. It's so refreshing to not feel like you're about to have a coronary after eating a good breakfast potato. The fact that Pete's does not drench them in butter is a major plus! I also enjoy the sausage: not greasy, mealy little links, but a delicious smoked polish-style sausage that has perfectly complimented every dish I've ordered it with.

I also noticed that it's BYOB. During the last visit, 2 tables brought in their own champagne and made mimosas! Now I need to get back for dinner!

I love brunch. It's my favorite eat-out meal. We don't do it very often as the s/o is a cranky bear when he wakes up and I know I shouldn't eat eggs benedict that often. Which is my go-to brunch order.

Needless to say I've a large variety of eggs bene, the classic, the seafood, the veggie and Pete's Place is the absolute best I've ever had. The eggs were perfect, the hollandaise - amazing, english muffin perfectly toasted. The potatoes that came with it were seasoned well. I'm in love. The s/o ordered the smoked salmon plate and loved it. Two thumbs up!

The inside looks very nice, classy. We ate out on the patio, very comfortable and the waiter was around often, which was nice since the restaurant was full and there were only two of us on the patio.

It's unusual to be invited to eat somewhere I haven't at least heard of, let alone eaten from before. Pete's Place is definitely off the beaten path (though not terribly difficult to get to or find).

The menu was fairly appealing and somewhat eclectic, but I did wonder if there was a theme or if we were just sampling from someone's general idea of "all things yummy" (I don't see how you get from deli sandwiches to pan roasted cod with capers and butter sauce, but hey both were yummy).

It's definitely got its own vibe and worth checking out. We had friendly service in a comfortable atmosphere. I actually would like to come back to check out some of the other options we may have tried (always good to find a new place for Brunch).

We were a little confused by the price of the mediocre prime rib, and I found the Canadian cheese soup to be overly ordinary (my boyfriend lapped it up, though). The cod was great, but the potato mash (though it looked incredibly tasty, with perfectly brown edges, and had a great texture) was nearly devoid of all seasoning.

The bill was somewhat annoying as we were all charged a corking fee (though many of us didn't drink at all or ask for glasses) and everyone was charged a plating fee to split birthday cake (though, again, many ate no cake). When you consider that there were 9 of us there, this means they basically were able to pull in around $70 extra from our table. It's an awkward situation, as we were there to celebrate someone's birthday and therefore didn't want to squabble over such measures, but it was a bit aggravating.

The only other thing I'd add, and this is a growing problem: SERVERS ... put DOWN YOUR DAMN PHONE. We waited quite a bit, quite often--waiting for an opportunity to get an appetizer order in, wondering when we were going to be able to get our bills, wondering when our credit cards were coming back, etc. At one point I walked behind the curtain to ask about getting some sort of dessert prepared (away from the birthday boy), and everyone in the galley was texting as we all were waiting at our table. This is a problem many places face, but I view this as a management issue--if you're going to obscure the kitchen and prep areas from view, please don't use that as an excuse to sidestep the priority of the paying customers.

At any rate, despite these minor gripes, the unusual menu, comfortable atmosphere, and friendly (if somewhat lethargic) service will probably mean we will be back at some point.

After reading  the reviews or Pete's  I added it to my 'YELP' bucket list..

So this past Friday, having  plans to go see Billy Ocean at the Motor City Casino, i knew I needed to avoid downtown Detroit due to the Wings Game.
[ I called ahead at 3 pm and asked if a reservation would be necessary for 6:00pm and James suggested one ]

My bride asked what kind of place was it, I said from the web site photos it looks like it has lots of atmosphere & presentation and a very fair menu.

So I traveled to "Pete's Place',  the irony that it is surrounded by many neighborhoods & Ferndale's  industrial zone was no big deal

Walked in and were promptly greeted & seated in James section.
James gets major points right away, because he had a gift of making eye contact with both of us as he verbally ran down the specials & intimate details on each.
    James Service
    A+

The Decor & Atmosphere [truly felt like were far away from the mundane]
    A+

I ordered the Prime Rib [ very generous cut for $16 ]
with some FANTASTIC  mashed potatoes ,they were slightly broiled  giving the peaks a brown tint [ nice touch ]
the Veggies Asparagus, & Broccoli were perfect.

    A+

My gal ordered  the Chicken Marsala  [ Sweet Marsala vs. Dry Marsala ]
    She loved it
    A+

James suggested some great desserts, but we passed this time, but plan a return visit for  more food, dessert & some day a weekend breakfast

    PS
James asked & answered   a multitude of questions about items, ingredients, the chef and so on
what a breath of fresh air from so many other places..

    And  yes  BYOB
As i watched several tables bring in 3-4 bottles of their own Wine

Not much to look at from the outside but super charming on the inside!

Over the last month I've been trying out a number of breakfast/brunch spots around Woodward & 9 Mile, Pete's Place has become one of my favs.

The service is second to none and you can taste/feel the freshness of the food. The menu is very simple & direct. Everything was just prepared well!

I ended up splitting the Turkey Panini & an omelette (Gruyere, asparagus + peppers). The panini was a bit uneventful but the omelette was perfect. The potatoes were crisp, fluffy & NOT drenched in butter, they could've used a little more seasoning.

Pricing was appropriate, I left feeling that it was good value wise.

    I will definitely re-visit!

Went to Pete's this past Saturday for a small birthday gathering.  Because this is a relatively small place, reservations are enforced.  Two friends of the birthday girl tried to get in on the reservation a couple of days before the party were DENIED.  We had a good laugh at their expense.

You could see a lot of local or Michigan products used throughout the menu.  We had appetizers, soups, salads and entrees, and everyone liked their food.  Seasoning was a little tame, but on whole good.

My wife is already talking brunch on Sunday.

Took out my Diva Queen foodie daughter for some good eats on a budget.

I had $20.00; no more, no less.

I was heading down Woodward Heights toward Royal Oak.  Was thinking about heading to Noodles and Company, but when I passed Hilton something caught my eye.

It was this cute little place with pretty twinkle lights outside.  Parking lot looked busy, but not crazy.  I asked Diva Queen if I should turn around.  She said yeah, let's check it out.

We walked in and were greeted right away.  Looking around I loved the decor.  Lots of broadway posters and playbills line the walls.

We were seated and given our menus.

I got a little nervous at first... entrees avg $14-$20.. Uh oh.

My daughter found the kids menu and said she would stick with that this time. (she's 11)

I perused the sandwich menu and was able to breathe again.  Great, we could both eat now!! :)   Sammies are $5.95-$9.95.

She ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce and I ordered the chicken breast sandwich.

Kids menu prices are great but the selection is very dinky.  5 items total to choose from, and 1 was breakfast, so 4.

Here's my main gripe about the place.  It was our waiter.

There were three waiters working, and about 8 tables with customers.

When I placed our orders, the waiter says, "is that it?"

Now, I don't like that.  I prefer "will that be all?" or "Anything else?"

"Is that it" just sounds like they are disappointed in what I ordered, like the bill wouldn't be enough to warrant a good tip.

    Have faith Oh trusty waiter!!

We sat talking and looked around the place.  D/Q noticed the floor and said it reminded her of a bathroom, but she loved the pictures and the chairs.  She thought the centerpieces were tacky ... LOL

She thought the posters were very cool too, although she didn't care for the showtunes coming from the speakers.  I explained about ambience, she said yeah yeah...

The waiter flies by and drops off her food and jets away.  No food for me... ummmm ok.

She digs in and loves the food, they gave her 2 pcs of garlic toast too, which she happily gobbled down.

The waiter runs by again, ... now twice... oh, three times.

D/Q asks why I didn't get my food yet.  I wasn't sure.  The waiter never said "yours will be right out", or anything like that.  I started thinking oh jeez, what if he didn't put my order in??? !!!   Ugh!

Just as I was about to ask, he flew by again and dropped off my sandwich.

I wanted to be angry that I was left hanging, but the sandwich was SO GOOD I just couldn't stay angry!!

Chicken breast with portabellos, arugala, greuyere cheese (sp) and basil mayo on a ciabatta roll.  YUM!!

Aside from the chicken being a little thick cut, the sandwich was really delicious!!

It came with homemade coleslaw which was tasty, and a pickle.  I ate all the coleslaw, the pickle and half the sammie and I was stuffed!

The bill came to $15.53.  SCORE!!

I handed over the $20 and told him to keep it.  I was so happy I was able to leave a good tip, although I don't know he necessarily deserved it.

I can totally see this being a new go-to place since it's close and I love the atmosphere.  I think the waiters just need to s-l-o-w down a little.

Hubby was super happy to eat my leftover half of sammie and said it was delicious!

I can't wait to go back and actually get to have an entree!!

Such a great place. Food and service outstanding. Food always so fresh and well prepared. Such a warm and inviting cozy gem. I go at least once every other week, I can not get enough and take all my friends there! Still have not tried their Sunday brunch, but plan on it for sure. Did I happen to mention that you can bring your own wine???? Charge of $5 or something like that to open, but I think well worth it. My heart belongs to Petes Place.

My first experience with Pete's Place was a little less than a 1 star rating but because I believe in second chances so much, I gave it another go and this time Pete's Place did not disappoint.

I digress to my first experience (even though they have redeemed themselves) because there is a valuable lesson to share with you all.  Do not order carry out over the phone unless you are 100% sure they understand the quantity and correctness of your order.  Enough said, moving on!

I hear rave reviews of the weekend brunch and wish I stayed in the city on the weekends just to partake in this luxury at least once!  But week night dinners out on the patio are fab!  Pete's Place is located in my neighborhood but off the main roads, it retains a little certain amount of peace and tranquility to dine outside.  The dining room looks quaint and hip too, I need a date to really get the vibe on that yet....

In the meantime, the menu is terrific and food is prepared and delivered by a group of people who really care about the presentation and taste!  If you are in Ferndale and you already LOVE Christine's Cuisine, try Pete's - it's delicious and you will be happy I told you so!

I love the decor and atmosphere of dining in.
The food is tasty but portions are small for the price.
Quality, color, taste all great. But I feel like I have to order an 2x as much food to get full.

BIG positive though is the later carry out hours.
I need a place I can get good food at 9:30pm on a week night!

We did order a lot initially but after a few screwed up orders, and for the cost we don't go often anymore.

I'm sure I'll go again eventually to try their brunch!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Petes' Place!!! I recently moved from Ferndale to Berkley and being within walking distance to Pete's is what I miss the most!

The people are ALWAYS friendly (I'd go at least once a week for about two years, so that's a good record!). The food is always perfect! I usually get take out, but the times I have eaten in have been enjoyable due to the fact that the restaurant is so cute and fun.

My favorites are the Chicken Marsala, Backstage Burger, Chicken Sandwich,  and the Artichoke Pasta (usually a special).

If you haven't been to Pete's you must go!

I just got back from a serious BASK at Pete's Place tonight.  I basked in the glowy lighting, sighing blissfully when they lowered the lumens as evening set in.

I basked in the calming, subdued color scheme punctuated by fun Broadway show posters, and basked in the wonderful company of my dear pal.   We chatted on, smiling as folks slowly filled the quiet place til the weekend took hold with a bustly hum.

My salmon was delightfully prepared in a slight, sweet sauce and sat atop a bed of orzo.   From the shreds of Swiss chard adorning my fillet to the veggies at the side, each texture and taste was flawless.

Our server was attentive enough and the charm of the place set a relaxed, festive mood as we shared of our lives as only old friends can.  In my mind the suburby couple to my left morphed into Auntie Mame with a suitor, her gesturing flirtatiously with bauble-encrusted fingers on a Ferndale Friday night.

Pete's Place is the best mid-range priced restaurant in metro Detroit. Sure there might be less-than-favorable seating selections (if you care about that sort of thing), but the atmosphere, food and service never fail to deliver.

Pete's Place is sophisticated. The owner has put a lot of personal, and thoughtful touches on the interior design. (The restaurant is known for its Broadway musical theme.) I especially like the ceramic tile floor and high back chairs. In keeping with the theme, Broadway music usually plays, but I have heard jazz and pop music as well. A note on attire: Pete's Place easily can accommodate both formal and informal dinner guests. The difference is negligible to anyone who dines there.

Pete's Place is comfort. Who would have known that behind the obvious gimmick of theatrical decor was a kitchen that could produce some of the finest non-gimmickey comfort food known to human kind? The prime rib comes with slender carrots, green beans, and mashed potatoes. Classic. The gnocchi is tender, gummy and nestled in a homemade meat sauce. Yum. The apple walnut salad. The apple walnut salad. THE APPLE WALNUT SALAD.

Most nights, Pete's Place serves a homemade pie alongside various other cozy selections, like Michigan cherry bread pudding. A constant are hand-dipped milkshakes, a throwback menu item that warms the hearts of every person over-40 person who remembers such novelties.

Pete's Place is joy. The wait staff are professional, and attentive. I especially enjoy the free refills that come in a new glass with a new straw, and the wait staff's policy of bagging leftovers for the customer. Also, kudos for using recycled cardboard carry-out boxes and not styro-foam.

Did I mention that dinner only runs between $12-15 an entree? The value of this restaurant is unmatched. Never have I been to a restaurant where I was getting more than I paid for.

Consistency. It's what made Michael Jordan the greatest of all time... until that whole Washington Wizards thing... but hey..

Pete's Place is the best option for brunch if you live along the Woodward neighborhoods of Metro Detroit.

They have the best Eggs Benedict I've had in town (Toast in Birmingham comes in as a close second). And the other breakfast items I've had -- from the omelets to filet and eggs have always been outstanding as well. Great coffee too and they always have interesting and delicious specials.

Their dinner and lunch menu is excellent. And let me tell you.... this place is a great deal! Very reasonably priced! You always get your money worth.

And the Broadway theme with the old show posters and Playbills is just too damn cute. Plus there is always the Sunday Freep and New York Times available to read while you wait to be seated!

I've only had one meal that was mediocre but by the time I was back for my next visit.. all was forgotten because it was another slam dunk!

My husband and I tried this place out about a year ago and it was pretty disappointing.  We were seated at a table against a wall that ended up being right by the opening for the kitchen so we were constantly having people walking behind us.  I felt like I was in the way as they walked by.  The chairs were so uncomfortable I couldn't sit right and the table was TINY!!!  I had no idea how both of us were going to have our meals fit on this table?

I think we both ended up getting hamburgers or something?  I honestly don't really remember which says that the food was blah.  I think the whole seating area just really bothered me and ruined my experience, but I know after we left we both said it was nothing big.  The pricing was ridiculous for the food quality, I just wouldn't pay that money for a meal I didn't really enjoy.

The ambience is nothing big either, I really could have done without ever going to this place which is sad because it's right around the corner from where we live.

A hidden gem, that is definitly worth a trip.

When I suggested Pete's for brunch I was expecting a basic, diner type vibe.  Pete's is in fact the complete opposite, it's really quite charming.  I was completely surprised by the decor inside and by the menu.

I was expecting a pretty basic menu, which is not the case.  They have some amazing creative options.  The asparagus and brie omelet  was calling to me but I wasn't hungry enough to eat an entire omelet so i went for the 2 egg breakfast.  Pretty good.  I got 2 eggs scrambled, wheat toast, potatoes, and a little cup of baked apples.  The potatoes were the tastiest part of my meal.  The seasonings that they use make them so much better than your average diner potato.  The apples were alright, a little more cinnamon goo than actual apples.

Definitly worth another trip.  I'd like to try the patio next time.

I've been to Pete's a handful of times since my initial review and figured an update was in order.

I went again today expecting to have another perfect experience at Pete's, and although it wasn't perfect, that damn dill hollandaise is the best I've had anywhere and my seafood benedict (one of today's specials) was delicious, in spite of the fairly overcooked (we're talking no run to my yolks) eggs and unusually bland potatoes.  Other than that, everything was delicious as usual and Candi, the waitress I've had more times than not, was outstanding.  I didn't feel like complaining about the eggs, because poached eggs require serious skill and every other time I've had them there, they've been remarkably perfect, so I figured it was just another event in my series of unfortunate ones in the last week.  And, like I said, it was still delicious because of the seafood and that crazy delicious hollandaise, which I did comment on to Candi.

I've never had to wait for a table here, and while I'm sure Pete's would like there to be a line around the corner, it's probably the number one reason that Pete's is my first choice, before those other, more popular joints just down the street.

Give them a try.  I can pretty much guarantee that your eggs will be perfect and today was just a fluke, and I can also guarantee that if you like hollandaise, theirs will knock your socks off.  YUM!

Pete's is my local go-to place.  I've eaten here for brunch, dinner, random 4 p.m. meals, and every time I've found myself very satisfied.

What really sold Pete's to me was how happy my grandfather was after eating his Chicken Marsala.  I'd never have thought to order an Italian classic here!

There are always a few interesting sounding specials at dinner, but my grandfather always ends up getting his Marsala.  I've enjoyed their gazpachos this summer.

As for desserts, I'd recommend the bread pudding over anything else offered.

Pete's definitely belongs to Ferndale, but is located far enough from Downtown that it is almost like an oasis.

I took my wife here for a night out without the boys. She had been here with a group of friends previously and gave it rave reviews.  It is a good place for her to eat since they have gluten free options that are actual menu items and not just something they threw together to fit a food allergy.  She had  the chicken marsala which she enjoyed very much.  The waiter also brought a gluten free roll for her which is a big deal for someone who can't usually have bread with their meal.  Just a nice extra touch I thought.  I had the pasta mezzogeorno. I would highly recommend this dish.  It has Italian sweet sausage, baby spinach, roasted garlic, olive oil and parmesan cheese. The sausage is the ground variety and was excellent.  The fresh bread that came with it was also delicious.  We brought our own wine and paid a small corking fee, I think it was $5.00.

The atmosphere was nice for a night out without the kids.  Good place for a break of this type.  The pricing was also very reasonable.  Much less than I felt we would have paid in the high rent district of downtown Royal Oak.  We will definately be returning here.

They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway...on Broadw...err...wait...On Woodward Heights???

Situated way off Woodward on a nondescript block on Woodward Heights is Pete's Place. Not exactly something you would expect to find among the random buildings. You definitely have to know where you are going.

The hubby and I recently moved from New York and apparently we were missing the ol' Broadway. The place is very cute and definitely not what you would expect. The walls are plastered with Broadway show posters, the bathrooms doors adorned with "actor" and "actress" stars. The walls painted in a calming gray tone and all the tables are set up very nicely.

We showed up for a mid-week lunch and the place was packed...which is always nice to see in this economy. I ordered up a ham and cheese omelet and the husband got a turkey and bacon paninni. The omelet was great. It was oven baked (kind of like at Original Pancake House) and came with delicous sides of baked apples and potatoes. The husband loved his sandwich and his fries were very tasty!!

Everything was reasonably priced and all the food I saw come out around us looked great. The staff was extremely friendly and were always there when our water glasses were getting low.

I think its a great addition to Ferndale and now I know where to go if I am ever having a New York craving!

When you first drive up to the place, it doesn't look like a much...just your typical family restaurant. I couldn't have been more surprised when I walked in the door! The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting. I had a stuffed salmon special and my husband had the sliced prime rib. Both were out of this world! We took advantage of their BYOB policy and brought a bottle of wine, which they happily opened and served us for a $5 corking fee. We ate a late dinner and were the last table in the restaurant. The staff went out of their way to tell us not to rush and to enjoy the half glass of wine we each had left.

Magnificent service, delicious food, affordable prices, inviting atmosphere...this might be our new favorite place!

PS. We went on a Friday night at 7pm and were turned away because we did not have a reservation. We were told to come back at 9, so we did and we were seated right away. The only bummer is that they were out of the special I originally wanted (eggplant parm) by that time. The salmon was a delicious consolation prize though. Lesson to be learned...if you go on a weekend evening, make a reservation!!!

Saturday we had reservations at Pete's Place.  I've been to this property before but it was probably 8 years ago when it was a hole in the wall coney style restaurant.  This place was magnificent.  This restaurant is very small and quaint and in the neigborhood.  I had the Filet Mignon that melted in my mouth for just under $20.  The food was fabulous, wait staff attentive and the price points perfect.  My highly suggest reservations on a weekend night.  Now that I've found this place I'll be back many times.

Upon entering, I was greeted immediately with a heartfelt, "Welcome!"  from the little chef's window. Then again by the server, who promptly sat us at our seat. Talk about a big + for a first impression! In fact, everything from the skillfully prepared food, to the stylish decor, to the supreme service- was really spot on. This "off the beaten path" Broadway themed restaurant really surprised me.

My first experience was breakfast, and if you read my other reviews, you know my obsession with Eggs Benny. So, shocker, that's what I ordered. It was light, yet flavorful. The sauce was not at all heavy or drowning the bread. Nope, the hollandaise was perfectly flavored and light along with the crisp crunch of English muffin, the perfectly poached egg on top of a thin slice of ham...heaven! Along side the Benedict, were wonderfully seasoned potatoes. They were crisp, but not tough, skins still on, with a great mix of herb flavoring. Another pleasant surprise was the baked apples that accompanied my breakfast. They were sweet and warm and reminded me of Grandma's apple pie.

Another occasion I ended up at Pete's for dinner. This time, I ordered the Portabello Mushroom Panini. This sandwich made me want to go back and edit reviews of other panini places around town. This panini really set the bar high. The sandwich comes with goat cheese, tomato, lettuce and balsamic. I have had portabello mushroom sandwiches in the past and usually am let down by the portabello's being too tough to bite through. Not at Pete's! And I really like the compliment of the creamy goat cheese, it's a great pairing of flavors- meaty mushroom and creamy goat cheese. YUM!

There's Broadway music playing in the background, tall wicker chairs that add a nice flair to the place along with play bills from various Broadway shows. It has a contemporary cafe feeling without being fancy or pretentious. For all of these reasons, I will be singing nothing but praise for Pete's. They've earned it.

Pete's Place is tucked away on Woodward Heights off of Hilton.  Nothing ever survives in the location they're in, though Pete's probably has enough of a draw to pull it off.

The menu is diverse and the food is well-prepared.  Expect a good meal for the price.  Nothing too flashy, but quite good.

The decor centers around Broadway productions.  Lots of framed posters and playbills -- always something to look at.

I've been twice and will return many more times.

Off the beaten path for sure! I don't think I would have found this place without Yelp!

I love the decor. Simple, yet unique. Service has always been on point except for one time when my party was obviously being served by someone in training. Not a big deal to me though, we all have to learn sometime.

Everything I've tried here has been great. I've had most of the panini's, all are fantastic, but the veg is my fave. My boyfriend is obsessed with the French Dip. And I'll agree it's delicious. We have also had their cheesecake and chocolate cake-both satisfying to my sweet tooth.

    I love Pete's!

I love places that celebrate Broadway and have the posters on the wall featuring musicals (did you know Angela Lansbury was in Sweeney Todd?) it's good eye candy while you wait for you food. I love places like this even more when they are off the hipster trail of Woodward and placed in an unassuming location. A short wait for a table on Sunday brunch time was fine in this little place as coffee is served while you wait. They don't serve any wine, but I hear you can bring a bottle in here for date night if you like. I'll be going back and putting this in the eating rotation for sure. A stripped down Sweet Lorraines.

We made it a point to try this place after reading some of the reviews on Yelp.  Pete's is thoughtfully decorated inside with a Broadway theme--it is Pete's Broadway Cafe after all.  The staff is friendly and the restaurant is nice and clean.

So, we're off to a good start.  We ordered the turkey dinner and the sliced prime rib.  The bread comes and it's not bad.  We brought our own wine and the server brought wine glasses.   The food comes and after eating some of it, I have to say that we are in no hurry to go back.  The sliced prime rib was stale; it tasted like it had been in the fridge for at least a few days, but probably more.  The turkey was definitely not house made--It was sliced from one of those chopped and formed turkey breasts that you'd find at Kroger.  And the mashed potatoes were so salty I could barely eat them.

I wanted to like this place and the staff is friendly, so I do feel bad about giving it two stars, but the food was just not good.  And top that off with a surprise $5 corkage fee that I'm pretty sure was not indicated on the menu and it was a pretty disappointing meal.
