Looking at this place from the outside you could be forgiven for ignoring it. It's in a nondescript location and there's no flashy signs to point you here. Once inside however, you might be a bit thrown off. There's several types of raw meats on display and the other portion of the deli consists of a surprisingly large selection of beverages.
But getting to the food, I tried the steak hoagie. Immediately you can tell you are getting a quality cut. There's lettuce, tomatoes and mayo here but it is really all about the beef and it is tasty. Sure it's greasy but that's to be expected; this is a hoagie we are talking about so don't be surprised if the bread starts falling apart. In all it's very good and it's probably a 9/10 in my book.
But what really puts this place over the top is the cookies. The guy at the register was incredibly nice and let us have some on the house. These are seriously the best cookies I've ever had. I don't really like sweets but I'd really go out of my way to have these again. Can't recall off-hand what these are called but it has chocolate and macadamia in it for whatever that's worth. They're simply delicious and worth making the trip for on their own merit. -

Chopped Beef Baked Potato: 2/5 - I didn't finish my baked potato because it wasn't any good. They need to use shredded cheese rather than sliced.
Deviled Eggs: 3/5 - I tried it because many reviewers mentioned it positively, but it's pretty standard.
Service: 3/5 - Customers order over the counter & have to remember what was ordered to tell the cashier at the end of the meal.
Ambiance: 1/5 -

Cool! I got dragged in here since the hubs is on a major lean meat health streak. I'd have to say it was pretty darn good!
He ordered double buffalo burgers for each of us (mine's with cheese and the fixin's; hey, he's on the health streak, not me!) and its was quite nice. It's only the second time I tried a buffalo burger (the first being at Fuddruckers- delicious by the way), and Pete's Deli offers an exceptional value for the amount of meat they gave. I think it was only a bit over $7 for each of those, considerably less than many other places serving game meat. I can't wait to try the other exotic products, we will definitely be back for more! -

They have great food and are very friendly and they don't just sale meats. I gave them a 4 star because I feel that their foods are considerably higher than what you would pay for them elsewhere.

This is a great place.. I've heard a lot of secondhand stories but I've only ever eaten one thing from here but I eat it often. Let me preface this by saying I make an effort to eat fairly healthy and this dish is delicious and good for you:
Ground bison, browned, with egg whites. Maybe have them throw in some onions and/or tomatoes or put some low fat cheese on top. It's ~$10 for a to-go container full of it.
It makes an amazing sandwich on wheat toast with a little bit of yellow mustard. I'm going to single-handedly keep them in business ordering this stuff because I'm addicted.
Love this place. LOVE it. -

PROTIP: Ask if anyone has failed to pick up their hunting game orders. You can buy the whole processed carcass for a bit more than half the processing costs. I just bought a whole deer for $100, which included 1.5 lbs backstrap (usually $30/lb), 5 lbs chops (usually $20/lb), 12 pounds of ground deer (retails at $8/lb, extremely lean), 15 pounds of venison sausage, and 12 dozen deer tamales.
Only catch is you have to buy the whole order, and I got the smallest one. I hear small freezers are going for less than $200 at Best Buy. If you like venison, this purchase would pay for your freezer in savings. Now is the time to do this, at the end of hunting season.
These guys are friendly and professional, and know their product and meats. Have not tried their cooked food, but my friends and I thought the flavoring on the sausage and tamales were excellent. The price of other exotic meats was high ($30/lb for ostrich steaks), but this was not too surprising.
Every city needs a good professional butcher, since our meat factories are returning to Upton Sinclair's Jungle-esque disgusting practices. Google "pink slime" and tell me our beef is safe with a straight face. -

My heart was broken here today. I wanted so much to love this place, I prefer to patronize local merchants...and my last time here I got a $13 piece of rib eye that was fabulous after it laid across my George Foreman. Time before, I got some of their delicious beef ribs from the deli. They were thick, and toothsome. Today, not so much.
I just popped in for a couple of bones of said ribs. The place was empty, not a soul there. (Sometimes that's a bad sign for me, but based on my previous visits, I paid no mind.) I went to the deli and saw the offerings in the steam pan, and figured that aside of the crust, there would be succulence to be had. I ordered two bones. He plucked out a piece of rib and cut them off, but since Judge Joe Brown was on the TV, I paid him no mind, He wrapped them up and asked if I wanted sauce which I ask for on the side.
When I got them home, what a bitter disappointment! On the two bones there wasn't even five bites of meat. I'm not saying they didn't taste good, there just wasn't anything to them.
I grabbed a pkg of crawfish boudin also. The three links of that were ok.
I stood for about 5 minutes at the register waiting for someone to ring me out. Not a long time, but I was the only one in the store, and guys were milling around in the meat cutting area. Maybe I was being ignored. Maybe they aren't interested in my business.
Which they won't have again. -

Hope you have a strong stomach! Nothing like staring at all the raw meat while you stuff your face.
I'm not the person to go out for a sandwich but I had a serious craving for a Reuben today. DID NOT FIND ONE, but i saw Pete's so I stopped in hoping they had corned beef. And O yes they did. Between two pieces of white bread, untoasted, they managed to fit a thick layer of corned beef, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese. Nothing like a Reuben but definitely more than I expected. It was delicious. I thought by the looks of it, the whole thing was going to fall to pieces when i took that first bite, nope. It lasted to the very last bite. Had it with a side of mustard potato salad and a coke. Total $10. At first, you would think six bucks for a sandwich on white bread may be pricey but once you finish it, you know it's definitely worth it cuz I'm SO STUFFED... off one sandwich.
The decor is pretty cool, my favorite was the sign "don't shoot innocent animals unless they look guilty".
Yes I'm serious about having a strong stomach, most of the clientele there are men and I can understand why. Everywhere you look, there is a piece of meat or something raw staring right back at you as you eat.
They have a wide variety of meats and sandwiches. It's a must try! Even if you have to close your eyes while you eat, you can still enjoy it. -

We live in the neighborhood behind Pete's and have always had consistently good service and product from here. The kids love their burgers and chopped beef sandwiches. I like their deli and their wide selection of meats and other groceries.
I'm making myself hungry just talking about them.... -

Fine meats, indeed. After getting off work at noon to begin my Epic Staycation 2010, I decided that grilling meats over an open fire was to be priority number one. Thought about heading up to C&D, but seeing as Pete's is right around the corner from my building, I decided to give it a whirl. The storefront reminds me of the butcher shop in Columbus, TX, where my family's ranch is located. With friendly folks behind the cases, the store boasts sundries for sale on one side of the store and employees serving up lunch on the other.
There are multiple generations of folks helping out behind the counter, including the matriarch of the clan, who took my money after I decided on what I wanted. The selection isn't as vast as I was hoping for, but you'll find the basics here (shrimp, chicken, beef, etc). Venison sausage was on special so I decided to go with the Polish version, as well as a half pound of ground beef to be turned into burgers for me and BF. I also picked up a bottle of Pete's barbeque sauce because it just ain't "sauce"-age without sauce.
And what of the meat? Ground beef was juicy and flavorful, and that sausage--sweet smokin' Judas, I'm hard pressed to think of a time I've had better. The casing was firm, the innards had a little bit of spice, the peppercorns burst open with delicious flavor, the meat itself was smoky and generally fantastic...ahhh, what a find. The only thing that was kind of a letdown was the barbeque sauce. It's definitely solid but nothing to write home about.
I've yet to check out the lunch counter, but after reading the saliva-inducing reviews of brisket and BBQ I think I'll probably find my way over sooner than later. For the moment, I think I've found my butcher of choice.Listed in: Foodie Fun

I know it's Pete's Fine Meats, but if you don't try their cookies, you're missing out. I had ordered some meat from them and was checking out at the register, when I noticed their cookies. I said I would get one next time, and the owner handed one to me and my daughter. After biting into that cookie (whatever kind is their best-seller - don't know what they call it), I knew I'd be hooked for life. It's probably THE BEST cookie I've ever eaten, and I've had some good ones.
Moral of the story: when buying meat at Pete's, don't forget the cookies. -

Oh man, I'm still so full I can hardly even write this review!
I even tried getting the "lighter" menu items. Fruit tray, chicken salad sandwich and a deviled egg. Man, I was craving those deviled eggs. They were only .50 cents a piece! I couldn't even finish a single thing. I had like half the sandwich and a third of the fruit.
The chicken salad was moist and thick, and served on wheat or white. Lots of shredded lettuce and fresh tomato slices. I didn't enjoy it as much as I should have, but mostly that's because I was really craving the cheeseburger. I should have got it.
This place feels like sweet home Texas meets some obscure New Orleans vibe deli. It's nice to be in a place that has real meat, butchers and fresh food.
This is a place that could get you into a whole lot of trouble! So many different foods. Lots of regulars. Great place to eat in or to buy stuff to take home and cook.
I'm hoping to go back and make it a 5 star establishment :)
Although, I won't lie....it sort of smelled like my grandmothers house inside.Listed in: BBQ!

I didn't get their cue or meats so I can't rate that just yet. (But soon will)
I did, however, snack on one of their sandwiches and a few other to-go items to share with a friend. It was when I was on my way to subway when I realized I hadn't been to this joint. Their lots is constantly filled with loyal patrons, so it must be good, right?
Well, please don't ever order a cold cut sandwich from here. Well, it wasn't that bad, but seriously not a true deli-style sammy. Lots of meat, loads of thickly-sliced cheese all on a soggy slice of bread and way too much mayo. And don't get their famous chili (grainy and bland), or a breakfast taco. Really. All of these items were like cafeteria food you could easily make at home. The upside is that it was incredibly cheap, which I guess you could say they priced it just right.
I did enjoy browsing the meat and grocery section. Perhaps their sauces are worth trying. And they have a vast array of exotic - and I mean "exotic" - meats to purchase. Not just turducken. We're talking turtle and ostrich and bear - oh my! ...gah! -

I can only attest to the meat market side, but it is probably the best in Houston. First, the prices are better than any other store. You'll save yourself $7-$8+ per pound on your favorite prime steaks. Secondly, where do you buy your Kobe brisket, emu, rattlesnake, and whole hogs? Exactly. They also process deer and hogs for you.
I first used Pete's to roast a whole 60lb pig for a Luau I threw while the folks were in Hawaii back in college. Sweet irony, right? Ever since, they've been a great resource for meat products and services. The only criticism I would have is that their prices aren't displayed on every item. But hey, it gives you an excuse to talk to them, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Good prices and a mind-boggling array of proteins make Pete's a must visit. -

This place is the reason I've decided to start posting on Yelp. I've lurked for too long and the food is just too good at Pete's Fine Meats not to give this place a stellar rating.
I checked on line for various sources and I wanted someplace close to HOU for my afternoon flight out. When I went in, I just followed the line to the back. I ended up ordering the 2 meat meal and had them "surprise me" with the best 2 sides that they had. I chose the pork ribs and the brisket and I was given the mustard based potato salad and the bbq beans. The portions were so huge of the meat that I barely had enough room for the only 2 bites that I had of my sides. Of course, nibbling on the 2 deviled eggs, the banana custard pudding, and drinking the Diet Dr. Pepper could've made me full while I waited for my food.
The bbq is typical TX-style: no sauce and awesome rub. The pork was well cooked and still the awesome pink that tells you that the meat is still juicy. The brisket was a little too fatty for me but I had no problem slicing it off since the entire brisket was well-seasoned so I didn't really miss out on anything. And again, very generous helping.
The meat was so good, I had to take some home for my wife. The guy behind the counter gave me the same 2 cuts and wrapped it in foil, put it in plastic, into a paper tray, and then in to some more plastic wrap. It made it all the way home for us to enjoy again that night.
And since this is only about 15mins from the airport, it's a great last minute stop before heading out on a flight.
For the newbie: you order first, grab your drink, enjoy your food, and then just tell the guy in the front what you had to eat. This is the honor system at its best.
Enjoy! -

So I was on my way home from work. I am usually starving by that time and anything looks like food , cars , traffic light , people - anything !
I stopped by just to see what this store is all about and they have great meat ! Red meat (different cuts), chicken , turkey. I got myself some Smoked Jerky (Turkey) and some sliced turkey and some turkey thighs. I think I am still going through post-thanksgiving blues.
They also carry ready to eat deviled eggs , chili , sausages , stuffed jalapenos, salads (tuna, chicken). In the back they have many rubs for the meat , drinks , sauces , charcoals for bbq etc.
The person working there told me that all the meat there is organic and they get fresh free range eggs from a farm near by.
I think this place is a good alternative to wholefoods and centeral market for meat if their meat really is organic like they say. -

This place is a perfect spot for lunch.
A one meat dish for around $7 bucks and it is way more food than you need. It comes with potato salad (i choose the mustard kind), beans and bread. The meat is fantastic, the staff there is awesome, and if I ever accidentally kill a deer, they will apparently process it for me. -
Review from Emily W.
I thought I could finally be one of those people that buy all their meat from their "local butcher" (like Ina does on Food Network) instead of at HEB. But the premium they put on their regular meats (beef, chicken, etc.) is way too much for my wallet. I'd come back, but only for exotic meats and special occassions. Not to mention, service was sub-par.
Tips for exotic meats: Call ahead for availability and pricing (we did). They typically keep their exotic meats frozen, so buy your meat at least a day before you make your meal so that the meat can thaw. [closed Sundays]. We settled on the elk, which he said was $25/pound. But when we called a few days earlier, we were quoted $20/pound. The quote was eventually honored, but like I said, call ahead. The elk did turn out delicious, btw.
One thing I did like was their spicy beef jerky. YUM. It was a hefty price of $25/pound (we got half a pound), but well worth it. So spicy that we had to stop by a gas station and pick up a Slurpee to quench the fire in our mouths. :) -

Vegetarians beware! I have never experienced so much meat in my life!
My friend was very persistent about trying this place so finally we came. Once we got to the counter I felt a little rushed to choose what I wanted. There was so much to look at from the jerky to the fresh meat in the display case, I couldn't focus!
I settled for 2 deviled eggs and a steak hoagie. Deeelish! The deviled eggs were perfect: creamy, mustardy, and a slight sweetness of pickle relish.
The steak hoagie was made with quality seasoned meat, shredded lettuce, tomato, melted provolone, and mayo. It was really awesome. There was absolutely no fat on the meat which was a major plus.
I highly recommend this place for any meat lover! -

All I can say is YUMMY! After reading some of the reviews I decided on the Steak Hoagie, a side of fries, I also tried the deviled eggs and stuffed jalapenos. I was not a big fan of the deviled eggs but the jalapenos were very tasty. The steak hoagie was wonderful, and huge! The fries were really good too, one order was enough to feed my husband and I. They were huge steak fries, looked like we had three or four potatoes in our bowl! Will definitely go back and try more stuff!

Still holding strong to that 5 star review.
This place still does not disappoint, the steak tacos are better than ever and the staff and owner are still slaving behind the counter with a smile.
This place is the end all be all of custom meats. They can cut any steak to your liking. They can even season your meat for a no hassle cook out. They carry your exotic meats such as kangaroo, wild boar, snake and pretty much anything that you can sauce and place on the pit.
Trying to find a neighborhood butcher or maybe some friendly convo, then stop here and say hola to the owners and oh yeah to the meat.Listed in: My "To Do" Errand List Houston…, Yelper vs. Food, The "One of A Kind" Places on…

Pete's ...they know MEAT!
Done.
No more searching for good BBQ in Houston.
Best BBQ in Houston hands down.
Brisket, the right amount of fat and filled with flavor.
Sauce, sweet but still got the BBQ feel.
They also carry all of your exotic meats and they will actually process meats if you bring it in to them.Listed in: Best BBQ

I go to Pete's for "special occassion" ingredients, such as venison for chili or tamales for Christmas Eve.
They also have great "gift" items like jerky, relish, antler bbq flipper things.
Maybe I love this place because I am instantly transported to my small hometown meat market in Cuero, TX... thank's Pete!Listed in: My Neighborhood

After my first visit, I am more intrigued than satisfied. I had the sausage sandwich which was a sliced up beef, pork, cheese, and jalapeno sausage served on a bun with onion and barbecue sauce. The sandwich was fine, but not spectacular. The sausage was a little too cheesy for my taste. I am curious about their steak sandwiches and with all the other potential offerings, I will go back to try other items. Their selection of old school bottled beverages is outstanding.
If you order a side, it is plenty big enough to share with the table.
The place is a good value and has potential. The folks sitting there seem like they are regulars, so there must be some gems that I missed. -

I popped in here the other day to get a couple of deer i had caught single handedly on the way to the office chopped up and all that messy stuff when i thought I might aswell get a Corned beef sandwich while i was there . . . .. .
OK the first part isn't true, I am not the hunting type really. I think I would rather miss on purpose and be the butt of all shooting jokes than kill a deer. However if you like slaughtering all of gods creatures and need them butchered then this is an awesome place. They really will butcher it for you.
Back to my Corned beef sandwich, I was hoping/expecting to see them carving up an in house prepared lump of meat. Sadly not. It was very good, but you know, it's a butcher type establishment and I want meat. I enjoyed the sandwich, the bread could have been thicker sliced but all in all good value.
Next time - Hot sandwich action beckons, and perhaps buy some real raw meat that has been nicely aged (judging by the colour) and looks top notch. I wonder if they sell offal? -

Great place to pick up those cold cuts or eat their hot food. Burgers are great and the fries too. Chicken sandwhich was fresh and tender. Considering they sell fresh meats really helps contribute to their cooked menu items!

We were in Houston a couple of weeks ago and were on a search. We were looking for Tamales and found them. In the deli area of this wonderful looking meat market were the food items. They ranged from sandwiches, hamburgers, bbq, and Mexican food. We settled for a dozen tamales and a beef and cheese burrito. The prices were redicously inexpensvie. $1.5 for the burrito and under $10 for a dozen tamales. We had so much food for lunch we couldn't eat it all, so we packed it up and hotel here we come. I was jealous that we did not live there as the meat market had wonderful looking meat and I could have bought a small, fully dressed, cabritto. And oh, would it look good on my grill. However, back to the lunch. It was simple and delicious. Recommend it to anyone. The salsa was a little texmex for us, which was the only little, small downfall.

Houston, TX
The place as a deli looks great. The BBQ was pretty good, but not the best I have had in Houston. The sandwiches are not my cup of tea because I am used to deli's having sandwiches that are on good bread, varying toppings, and any good deli has to have corned beef and pastrami. I don't know, but the bread was just plain bread and the sandwich was just flat in flavor. This place is worth a try, but I don't know if I will be going back.
