I live some distance away or this would be my "regular" diner. The booths are large and comfortable. The attentive, friendly staff have never let my coffee cup go empty. They all pitch in, regardless of whose table is whose. A better than average burger deluxe fills to overflowing the oversized plate. I've had breakfast only once but would recommend the place solely on that. No one rushes you; the table/booth is yours for the whole relaxing meal. Noise level is low (no tv; no yelling orders; no screaming kids). I have no negatives to report. Pete's is a popular place that makes the stranger feel like a local.

Why not 5 stars? Gotta leave some headroom for a future miracle, if and when.

Here's an awesome diner that know what they are doing.  The place is sitting in the middle of Rhinebeck for several years now.  They serve nutritious food at advantageous prices(much comparable to other restaurants on prices, but without the fatty French fries.  I should know this, becaue I have been ordering chicken sandwiches for the past few years intermittently, and it's been coming out with potato chips, thereby decreasing the price.

The waiters are friendly, although only a few are on duty at all times.  Atmosphere is quite on the average to quiet side.  There almost never send to be a line out the door.

Starving, we were in the mood for greasy food and we made a stop here for some good, hearty, all-American offerings.  Needless to say, it was not disappointing.  I ordered the Reuben with corned beef, french fries and onion rings.  My friend order the tunamelt sandwich.

Service is typical of a diner so not much was expected and received.  In fact, one of the server, luckily was not ours, yelled at me and other patrons because we were 'in her' way when she walked to the kitchen.  The bathrooms are awfully located in the hallway leading to the kitchen and when full, there is nowhere to stand but the hallway.  The only other place is in the middle of the diner.  What to do????

The Reuben was very satisfying and the onion rings superb, thick, greasy, and rich.  The tunamelt was very good too.  The place is clean. Bathrooms also clean.  The diner location is good, in the main street of Rhinebeck.  Decor is very nice as well with plenty of booths, tables and fast service.

    The Final Verdict:

    Restaurant Ambiance/Decor:  4.0 out of 5.0

    Staff Service/Friendliness : 2.0 out of 5.0

    Seating Arrangement/Layout:  4.5 out of 5.0

Seating Comfort:  4.5 out of 5.0

    Food Quality/Flavor:  4.0 out of 5.0

Food Price Value:  4.5 out of 5.0

Bathrooms Cleanliness:  4.0 out of 5.0

Overall Price Value:  4.0 out of 5.0

Final Score:  31.5 out of 40  (78 out of 100% or C+ grade)

Final Comment: All-American greasy diner food with average all-American diner service makes this a place I won't be running back to try again but when in the mood for diner food, will do make a dash for it avoiding the very unfriendly server.

I like my diner's a certain way: cheap, with somewhat tasty food and no pretentious attitudes (a certain diner in San Francisco had this attitude and it caused me to steal their silverware and an "I HEART SF" pin from their bathroom). Pete's Famous achieves all three of these things, but only sort of. As for the food, I always have an issue with something on my plate, but it can usually be canceled out by something being halfway decent on my plate. Their potatoes aren't that great, but at least the omelette will be okay; the burgers are always cooked well done even though I asked for rare, but at least their fries are stellar.  You get the picture. The prices are average for a diner and as for the attitude, an extra star for keeping grounded in a town that's known for it's share of elitist d-bags.

P.S. As for San Francisco, you suck. Get your own cheesy ad campaign. Don't steal New York's.

Another in the great panetheon of Hudson Valley Diners. Brother to the Hyde Park Cafe, this Pete's has it all.

Food: simple and tasty. I always order the Buffalo Burger Deluxe and am never disappointed.

Service: The service is diner friendly. The great thing about repeat visits is that the waitstaff remembers your preferences for food and drink.

I've never seen cheaper bacon in my life! Not worth the calories...tastes old. Took 20 minutes for one egg and one pancake. Terrible experience...

I don't ask for much with diners, just good menu, fair prices, and clean. This place was all of them. Food came out really fast and the outside seating a big plus. I defiantly more of a diner than restaurant though, which isn't a bad thing.
