Today was going to be Nickel Diner tryout day (it's been in my Yelp bookmarks for weeks), but seeing the line there this morning reminded me that I have every other Friday off, and it's likely slow then... so I didn't feel like waiting an hour unnecessarily. I mean, it's three blocks from home. It can wait.

So we walked around with the monacle on (yay iPhone) and past a few restaurants which were poorly received. Literally just walked a lap of a few blocks between Nickel Cafe and my home. Came to Pete's 5 minutes before they opened and saw good reviews; thought... winner.

First impression was right. Our server was personable, competent, and efficient. Two other people stopped by our table as well to make certain we were happy. The food was great. The dining room well-decorated and upscale. The prices reasonable. My burger was great, and my friends loved their food. This will be in the 'rotation' from now on as a place to take friends from out of town... everything was great...

Four stars not five simply because the food, while very very good, wasn't mind-bogglingly amazing either. For five stars, something has to be so good I come back again the next day... not the case here.

Every great superhero has a great sidekick, just like every great burger needs a great side of fries.  Pete's has the superhero, but not the sidekick.

My friend and I both had the Hellman Burger, a half-pound of prime beef with fontina cheese, green leaf lettuce, red onion and tomato with a smoked tomato aioli.  This burger was huge!  The meat had fantastic flavor.  My medium was cooked just right and my friend's well-done was also good.  The sauce was great.

The burger comes with shoestring fries in a cute metal cup.  They are not really shoestring, just regular thin fries and there's nothing fancy about them at all.

We also ordered a side of the Blue Cheese, Cheddar Bacon and Chipotle Fries.  They were the same thin fries but over-saturated with the topping which didn't taste anything like bacon or chipotle.  The fries were just super-soggy and not fun to eat.

So come for the burger, but don't bother with the fries.

I have been to "Pete's Cafe and Bar" many times in fact when downtown was a place you did not want to be in when the sun went down.

We went to Petes because it was mentioned in a article some years ago (about 6) regarding the renaissance of downtown LA the old buildings being made into Lofts and how the investors were trying to get young people to come live down there... one of the trendy restaurants they mentioned was Pete's, so OFF we went in search of this fine "cool" establishment. The decor is very nice and stylish definitely a cool place to come with friends and chill for a REALLY good bite to eat.

I have had the Lamb Bolognese, Flat Iron Steak with Blue Cheese fries, Wild Mushroom Ravioli and the Spinach and Pear Salad. I have never in the last 6 years been disappointed with any dish I have ordered here. The wine list is extensive and the service is usually (depending on what night you come) excellent. I have eaten a few times up at the bar and service was cool and quick.

Parking in this area can be a issue of safety so make sure you are aware of your surroundings as the street next to this restaurant is one block up from Skid Row practically. I have never had any problems their are panhandlers out there just like any where is in downtown just be aware.

Respectfully Reviewed

The original location for this date was Lost Souls Cafe, fitting for a person that has sold her soul.

However, unfortunately it was closed for the night. I parked my car a little bit beyond the cafe, in this dark street known as Skid Row where lost souls apparently roamed. Fear croached inside of me just a little. When I fed the meter, someone yelled out you don't need to feed the meter. Thank you kind lost soul #15.

I walked briskly back towards the brighter end of 4th avenue, no Lost Souls Cafe in sight. I phoned my date, he was late. He said there was an iron gate somewhere near. I didn't see it until later. While waiting for my  date I was asked by a gentleman if I was Sheryl to which I declined, probably another serial dater looking for his victim.

My date came through with his bopping and weaving hair, I liked his soft curls. Every now and then as we walked his head would twitch a little, I thought to myself, maybe he has Tourette's. I am pleased to say he did look like his pictures. We opted to go to Pete's Cafe and Bar since Lost souls was closed.

Inside was a beautiful upscale restaurant, the Christmas decorations were very sophisticated, almost like a New York hotel, as if I have ever been to one. I liked it alot. My date led me to the bar where I had ice tea and the date had a drink that I can't recall the name of. We chattered away on intellectual and taboo topics as the busy restaurant carried on. The head twitching ceased.

After drinks the date concluded, I told the gentleman I had another date planned-- as honesty is always the best policy and he offered me directions to get to the second location after walking me to the car...

Pete's is a cool spot.

I had a fun dinner on a Saturday night. We got there around 9 pm. The ambiance is great - it feels like a French bistro in NY or Chicago. Tall ceilings, candles, and huge inside. There was a motely crowd - a huge party next to us of about 20 USC kids, several couples, several groups of 4-6 people. It was crowded (and got more crowded by the time we left around 11 pm), but still felt intimate and never got too loud. Nice bar scene, upscale casual, not too trendy.

The food was good. Not great. Same with the service.

Mozzarella and heirloom tomato appetizer -- good, nothing special.

Mac and Cheese -- based on all the Yelp reviews, and my quest to find LA's best M&C, it was a requirement that I tired this. Served crockpot with a side mixed greens, the M&C has a layer of oozing cheese on top, and is creamy underneath. Rich and delicious, especially if you're more of a cheesy than creamy M&C fan. (Though Bowery and Nook still make the top grades in my book).

Short ribs and gnocchi -- short ribs were tender and fell off the bone, gnocchi were a little too garlicky and underwhelming.

Ginger creme brulee -- tasted like a fine creme brulee. Not very inspiring.

Good food. Cool ambiance. No trendiness or stuffiness or haughtiness. Definitely would go back.

Went here about 7 or 8 years ago often, now never again after a recent night.  There are so many other places to go in Downtown, that definitely have more soul and quality.  Blue-cheese fries or mac&cheese TO GO.

Nice atmosphere, almost nothing for vegetarians to eat, you don't get much for the money. This place seems to think it's more than it is. It's a nice upscale cafe and bar, no more. I have no prob paying through the nose for a great restaurant but frankly, I was really disappointed after the huge buildup people gave this place. If I was a meat eater, I might give this place another star.

Yummy yummy yummy in my tummy tummy tummy.

That's what the Mac and Cheese says.

Pete's is awesome and everything I've tried here keeps me coming back over and over again, so much that I actually ate BOTH lunch and dinner here on the same day one weekend.

But please, let's be real.

The Mac and Cheese is what you come here for, that and a couple of beers to wash it down with.

I've passed by Pete's Cafe and Bar a few times in the last week while I was working at the LA Convention Center and it always seemed to be a happening place. When I yelped for brunch/breakfast places in downtown LA, Pete's Cafe and Bar didn't come up as an option, which I thought was odd. I only found it when I looked at the NFT website.

Unfortunately, the restaurant did not open until 11am, which I thought was  a little late for breakfast/brunch, but my friend (who was visiting from Chicago) and I wandered around outside while we waited for the place to open.  Of course when it finally opened, we were the first to be seated and the only patrons of the place. The decor isn't anything fancy or exciting, just your typical wooden dining tables/chairs. I didn't really see the bar area or the dining area around the other side because we were seated to the left side, near the kitchen.

I ordered the breakfast quesadilla, which came with eggs, homefries, apple-wood bacon, pico de gallo and jack cheese- and it was pretty good (anything with bacon is good!). It came in nice big portions and when I asked for some spicy condiments, they brought me a barrage of options- jalapenos, tabasco and siracha. A delightful combination of spices! My friend ordered the yoga style omelette (so LA) which was pretty good (too bad I don't like goat cheese!).

We also got some fresh coffee, which was nice and strong. Overall I thought the food was pretty good, and the prices weren't so bad either. I may have to return again to try the eggs benedict, my usual favorite (but after reading Kitchen Confidential I am v. wary) or their lunch menu.

For parking, there are some available on the streets, but most of them were for 1 hour. We ended up going to a lot for $4 down one block which was probably much better than paying the $3/1hr meter, so we could leisurely enjoy our meal.

Pete, I wonder who you are.

Went for a friend's birthday and they were great with service.  It feels like you are transported back in time a bit, but not sure of what the era is, and whether you sit indoors or outdoors, the ambiance is great.

The RIbeye was good, the lamb risotto was ok, the chicken was excellent, and their dessert was worth trying.  Make sure you take a peek at their wine list as it is a fair selection, although their prices could certainly be better for the type of restaurant it is.

Their service was outstanding.  We had a large party and the girl who served us (I don't remember her name, but I do remember she was half black and half white - I am not racist... I promise) was wonderful.

Whatever the case, this place is a good place to have a birthday dinner.

Last night, I decided I was going to treat my boyfriend to dinner since he had painted my room for me.  We were so exhausted by the time we got home, that we decided we just wanted to eat dinner around the vicinity.

I ask, "Hey how about Pete's?  Were leaving DTLA in a couple of weeks and we still haven't eaten there."

BF:  "Yeah totally, and then we can walk over to Old Bank DVD to get a movie."

So off we went, with our tummies empty and growling.  I knew right away I wanted Tomato Soup and the Crab Cakes Dinner.  BF was undecided on the Hellman burger or the 4 Cheese Tortellini.  He goes for the pasta, and orders a side salad to start.

Our food was great, ambiance perfect, and the service was impeccable.

I just thought it was a tad bit too pricey.  Otherwise, everything was great!

WHY is this place where it is??

I came here with two other girls and by the time we walked from the car to the restaurant (about a block and a half) we had already promised to go light candles at church if we made it to the doors alive, even though none of us are religious.

That said, once inside our experience was pretty darn pleasurable. It's your typical romantically lit with candlelight at every table type of place, which I do rather enjoy. Our waitress was a nice gal and we had good service throughout dinner.

I ordered the flat-iron steak with bleu cheese fries (as did one of my other friends) and the third ordered mac & cheese. My steak was cooked almost perfectly and the mac & cheese that I stole forkfuls of while my friend wasn't looking was also delicious.

What stood out, however, was their bleu freaking cheese fries. HOT DAMN. I would go back JUST for the fries, and from what I hear, I have yet to try the chipotle fries which could possible battle the bleu cheese ones. Hot, gooey, melty bleu cheese with the flavor not too light and not too strong coupled with crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside fries..... PERFECTION. Now, couple all THAT with my medium rare hunk o' beef and THIS is what drives the porn industry. I began taking a couple fries drenched in bleu cheese onto my fork, then adding on a small cut of the beef and putting it all in my mouth at once.

In my state of ecstasy I walked out into the street, still dreaming about my meal and licking my lips............ and then I was greeted by a homeless dude with his hand inside his jacket giving me a growl and pointing to the angel of death standing behind my shoulder.

Came here for a late night nibble with some friends, someone suggested their fries, so I was game. What came was delicious and totally unexpected!

Chipotle fries: Your basic shoestring fries covered in a creamy chipotle sauce. Each fry is tossed and individually covered with sauce! Wasn't too spicy, but damn tasty.

Blue Cheese fries: Same fries, but with a rich blue cheese sauce. Almost like having fries in alfredo sauce with the funkalicious flavor of blue cheese, but not too strong.

Lowdown: Seems like a casual yet elegant (think dark wood and candles) place to at least get some fries. Would like to check out the rest of their menu. They're open late so a nice alternative to your usual ghetto late night eats.

I kind of wish I had scanned the reviews before I came to Pete's.  Chipotle Fries??  Blue Cheese Fries??  Mac and Cheese??  The Hellman Burger??

Honestly, I was looking at the Mac and Cheese, but wanted something light as I was munching away at apps and drinks right before at my gf's Pasadena apartment.

I ended up getting Wild Mushroom Ravioli on the starter list and side of Spinach and Pear Salad.  I was unimpressed with the ravioli.  It tasted very mushroom-y.  Granted it was a mushroom ravioli, but even Olive Garden's Portabello Mushroom Ravioli tastes wayyy better.  And there wasn't a strong enough taste to the mascarpone cheese sauce to balance out the strong mushroom-y taste.

The Spinach and Pear Salad was good and I would get this again.  It came with candied walnuts, feta cheese and it looked like dates.

Mmm.. the best part of the meal was dessert!! Which saved the night!  Ginger Creme Brulee.  I knew even though it was "Ginger" Creme Brulee it wouldn't be overwhelmed with a ginger taste.  (I don't really care for ginger).  It was perfect at first bite.  :)  Nice and crusty at the top with the burnt sugar and smooth and tasty on the bottom with the custard.

Lesson learned.. do your yelp research before you go out to a new restaurant!!

Came here with 2 friends on a Wed. night, very low key and laid back atmosphere.  Wonderful cocktails and appetizers!  We shared 3 different salads as the main course for a light dinner and they were delicious!
Waitress was really nice, the service was a bit slow, however.  Place wasn't packed by any means on a wed. night...
Would come back for sure!  Oh, this page has the price range as 2 $$ but I would say the prices are more like 3 $$$.  Its a bit pricey.

I am just reviewing the Burger here.

After being disappointed in the Father burger at Father's Office, I finally decided to go to Pete's in downtown and try their Hellman Burger.

I always get my burgers well done, because i feel that if a well done burger comes out tasty, you know they got a good burger. anyways, i was'nt expecting much after tasting many other great burgers, but was pleasantly surprised when it came. damn...its huge...a 1/2 pounder, real juicy, and the bun was just amazing! The first half was a delight to eat, but as i was getting near the end of the burger, i found that a 1/2 pound of slightly bland tasting ground beef is a bit much for one person...So, me being such a burger critic now, i would give this a 4 star rating. I docked 1 star because i think they could have cut it down to a 1/3 pound and lower the price a couple bucks, and also because the patty seemed like it could have been ground up a little finer.

all in all, a solid burger, good fries, but a bit pricey @ $12.

yes, i admit, i'm a food snob. so, when my friends took me to Pete's Cafe yesterday for my birthday brunch, i was skeptical. it's on a random Downtown corner (most of Downtown LA is a random corner, imho) the interior wasn't very appealing and smelled a bit like cleaning solution, but the food was really good! we chose to sit outside.

we ordered the ahi tuna sandwich, french toast, and breakfast quesadilla. it was perfect.

our waiter was great too. his name was Evan and he wore a creepy ski mask for Halloween. he even bought be out a slice of lime cheesecake for my birthday on the house :)

I've been coming to Pete's for the past two years on a weekly basis as this is one of the more decent restaurants in the area to conduct business meetings. I'm quite a regular as you would call it. The service has always been good, however, the food is really starting to get to me. Actually..it started to get to me about a year ago. But since it's on the company's dime, i'm not complaining. Anyways..just came back from our weekly meeting and feeling quite thirsty.

Today, I ordered the weekly special as the regular menu hasn't changed much since i started eating at this place two years ago. The
Andouille sausage sandwich came with side salad, which i opted to substitute with a side of green beans and french fries. Boy, was I in for a treat! The meal was soooo SALTY! I think i've consumed enough salt for the entire weekend. Needless to say, i'm done with PETE's....until next week for another business meeting.

From my past experience, I find that there are several items on the menu worth order again. 1.) Tomato Basil Soup 2.) Hellman Burger (easy on the cheese). That's it!

Found ourselves in Downtown L.A. last weekend.... was looking for late night eats, and ended up here.  The ambience was cozy enough, sortof an old artdeco vibe inside with a sidewalk patio.  We chose to sit outdoors, which was neat since we were able to look around at all the old buildings and interesting looking people walking by.  Could smell some urine smells out there though which was a bit of a bummer but there are plenty of homeless people walking around and I certainly can't blame that on the restaurant.  The seats were uncomfortable though, and that I CAN blame Pete's for.

I had a difficult time with the menu, I couldn't find anything that really grabbed me.  Finally settled on the Seared Ahi appetizer, and my fiance chose the hamburger (men, they're so predictible sometimes)...  so the food comes, and I'm immediately disappointed.  My 12 dollar ahi, is no more than 5 or 6 extremely thin and anemic looking postage stamps of fish with nearly no seasoning except for seasalt, a small mound of couscous full of pickles and apples, and three giant taro chips which had no taste.  I tried to act upbeat, so as not to ruin the evening but I was not happy...

My fiance's burger was pretty good, the patty was thick and it tasted very smoky almost like a hotdog... he gobbled it down with no complaints except that they only gave him a small handful of fries... again skimpy on the portions, and for a $12 burger one would expect a decent amount of fries.

So overall, would I come back here.....ehhhh probably not inless it was very late and there wasn't another restaurant open nearby.

If I did come back, I definitely wouldn't order the Ahi again.

Great food.  Great wine list.

I had the scallops--served with mango reduction---AMAZING.

Be sure to get the cheesy fries!

The atmosphere was great.  The seated dining area is separated from the noisy bar (but not too noisy).

The restrooms are always important to me, and these were sexy and spacious with lounge chairs, dark wooden tables, and real orchids.  Somehow a nice bathroom makes a huge difference in my opinion of the restaurant.

Good crowd-- 20s-30s down to earth cats.  :)
And they're open late!

Just got back from eating here: I got the tomato basil soup, spinach-and-pear salad with grilled chicken, and chocolate ice cream for dessert. The side salad portion was plenty for me so the thought of a full-on entree salad is intimidating. The soup was thick, tangy and had some sweetness to it. The salad featured baby spinach, small dried fruits of some kind (too small to be plums), candied walnuts, a soft lumpy cheese (goat?) and strips of lightly cooked pears. It was tasty and satisfying in part due to the chicken which gave it a bit more heft.

A nice place overall. The menu isn't large but what they have seems to be good quality.

Pete's Bar and Grill is located on the corner of main and 4th in downtown LA. I like the vibe of the place, kind of relaxed, friendly, a little dressy wouldn't be amiss here but at the same time it also boasts a comfortable casual environment.

At 3pm on a saturday afternoon the place was still decently packed and that's a compliment in and of itself. We ordered blue-cheese fries, Hellman burger, Curry chicken sandwich and had the bread pudding.

The blue-cheese fries were good, definitely loaded with creamy cheese and very salty. The first few bites were amazing, then that blue-cheese flavor started to overload a bit. I would recommend this if you've got a desperate love for blue-cheese, or after-drinking food. Just for a meal it was a bit too much though.

The curry-chicken sandwich was....not my thing. I didn't like the warm curry flavor with the bread, just didn't do it for me.

Hellman Burger. Good burger! Definitely gives a generous amount of meat that made me full. It's simple, cheese, onions, tomatoes, and a thick patty on delicious bread, but the best burgers are always simple. The bun was amazing, buttery and light and the meat was well-flavored. However, I have to say I like Father's office burger better, and while I enjoyed this burger for 12 dollars...it's not something I would order every time.

Bread pudding - This was perfect. One of the best bread puddings I've ever had. Not too sweet, just enough flavor and syrup, AND it was on the house because a waiter accidentally broke some glass near us.

Overall I would have given a 3 out of 5 for a good restaurant that I would come to if I lived close by with decent food, but wouldn't go out of way to go to. However, what bumps it up one star is the amazing service. The people working here are great! Incredibly friendly, open, one of the best services I've had at a restaurant.

This place brings back so many fond memories of my first years  living downtown. Back then, when I didn't really know any better, I lived in the Hellman Building across the street.  I thought I was so cool in my concrete cave surrounded by all the ugliness of skid row and the beauty of these old buildings.
Met the man I was to (and did) fall madly in love with here.  Also had my heart broken and trampled on here, as well.
Sitting out front on the patio of Pete's, looking up to see a light shining through from a window I once called home, was bittersweet.

My friends order a couple of beers, and for me, a Kettle Cran.  Nice and strong. Refreshingly cold on a hot balmy night.
We then move on to Blue Cheese fries and a couple of Hellman burgers.
As I sit there sighing with all the memories rushing back, I pick up some fries and......
"WTF?!!!  OMG.... THESE FRIES ARE FU*CKIN AMAZING! HOLY SH*T! EMMMMMMM!!!!!!  **munch* munch* munch**.. Omg...  Delish!"

The moment was over.

when i'm around downtown, i tend to default to this place. it's nice the cheapest place to default to, but it seldom disappoints. the fries (any) are definitely a must to add to any order. the pastas have that comfort element for a late dinner/snack. the pancetta wrapped scallops are okay, but not really worth the price. the place is chill, the servers are nice, and the atmosphere is decent enough. i wouldn't really go out of my way to go here, but i'm not against it if someone suggests going to Pete's. this is kind of a meh review, i suppose, and i rate them around a 3.5, but i rounded up because i'll give them the benefit of the doubt, so to speak.

Cheesy!! No, not Pete's. The blue cheese french fries and the mac & cheese. Yum.

I've been to Pete's a bunch of times in the past and i probably would've given them 4 stars. But when I met a friend there before the theater, I didn't walk out of there with an out-of-this-world feeling.

Everything was A-OK. The ambiance was good. The service was not over the top, it was what you would expect from an establishment like this. The wine was delicious (Oatley Pinot Grigio). The mac and cheese, slightly disappointing, but not bad (I was expecting more cheese throughout than just melted on top - but it still tasty yummy as evident that there was none left at the end of the meal). My friend had the rib with the crisp gnocchi which, again, was delicious, but not memorable.

They did call a cab for us and was persistent with it since it came and left before we could even walk out the door. That was nice.

Overall it was a pleasant experience but did not live up to my memories of prior visits. And it will be going back there again.  LIke I said, Pete's is A-OK.

They should really have half star options because Pete's is a 4 1/2.  I'm a night owl and love the fact that this place is open late.  I recommend the Hellman burger, like every one else....but also the spinach-walnut-pear salad....but beware of the chipotle fries because they go a bit too happy on smothering the fries.  Otherwise,  a gem in Downtown LA dining.

Imagine my shock and horror when we found out that Downtown Los Angeles has stuff in it. I thought it was just an elaborate set where they filmed deserted cities for movies.

I still can't fathom why anyone would go there.

At first we were going to go to Bottega Louie, but we asked what the wait for a table was and they wouldn't stop cackling. So Pete's it was.

Pete's lacks a decent vegetarian option. Sure, I can get Mac & Cheese or Ravioli, but what if I don't want cheese and carbs? What if I DON'T want to die at 28?

I ended up settling for a house salad (quietly ignoring the globs of goat cheese in it) and a side of shoestring fries, ensuring my death at 30 instead of 28. Take that, Satan! You're gonna have to wait.

The salad was good, as were the fries ("Get the bleu cheese fries!" my dinner companions exclaimed, which I ignored for reasons Satan-related), but I'd prefer to eat like I wasn't time traveling to age 19, ordering the equivalent meal at a Denny's in South Florida.

So, conclusion: acceptable for me. Probably great for everyone else.

My favorite place in downtown.

Open late, serves food late. Some great beer on tap, awesome meals and just an overall great vibe.

Good for a classy dinner or for a beer and nachos (highly recommend) with friends.

Three words - GRILLED CHEESE SUPREME!!!

Pete's has the Best grilled cheese I have ever had the pleasure of devouring. Aaaaaa-mazing. The Texas toast is worthy of the claim that it is Texas sized. The cheese is melted to perfection and is complemented by the equally delectable tomato basil soup. The experience progresses to full Eutopia with the addition of some of the best looking waiters east of Hollywood. Ahhhh.....the good life. Dinner is not as good as the lunch fare, but one constant are the fries. My personal fave - cheddar and bacon. Yes, you can expect the worst case of heartburn ever, but I find its worth it every time.

The place is popular with the downtown set, so expect to see a lot of suits in the crowd, which makes this a good place for dinner or unwinding after work, also. The outdoor seating is nice, and the barkeep is always ready for a recommendation. Pete's gives off a neighborhood bar kind of vibe, so take advantage of its hospitality.

Behold! The secret to their mac n cheese is heat! Lots of heat! As in broiled to a crispy perfection. Then, and only then, is this mac n cheese worth putting in your mouth. Trust, people of LA. I have consumed more mac n cheese at more places around this fine city than any one human should consume and as a result, I know a thing or two about a thing or three, so order it crispy and prepare to sit back and enjoy an oddly delicious Tarragon Mac n Cheese.

With that said, pair it with a kick ass, nicely priced bottle of full bodied red wine (I suggest the fairly priced $20 House Red), a medium-rare steak and those heavenly blue cheese fries and prepare to leave happy! So happy that even if you wear heels like a jackass and bite it on Main Street and scrape up your knee something awful, you won't even care because the meal was THAT good and nothing is gonna kill your happy food buzz. Mmmhmmm.

I Have only been to Pete's once a friend and my self where walking around before a concert at the Orpheum Theater looking for a place to get dinner, I saw dogs hanging out on the patio and thought that's cool and figured its gotta be a good place.  We had some drinks very good we split the Mac and Cheese and Blue Cheese Fires. Wow, seriously AMAZING! I seriously dream of these fries. I had forgotten What this place was called then found it again due to yelp. So glad can't wait to go back at the end of this month.

This was the first place I ate when I moved to LA for work..  11PM on a Sunday..  Spent all day driving, unpacking, buying more stuff, unpacking again, and I was starving.  Tried one spot that had just closed the kitchen, and they said go to Pete's.  I am glad they did.  Downtown LA can be a touch place to find food late..  It is still not fully developed..  But Pete's..  PETE's!!  I love you..

Big ol' steak..  Blue Cheese fries..  Cold pint..  All at 11:45 at night on a SUNDAY!  I went back many times after..  Even bumped into Kiefer filming 24 across the street..

Go to Pete's.. Lunch, Dinner, late night munchies..  Trust in Pete's.  They got you covered..

I absolutely adore this place. The food is always good (think: mac and cheese with cheddar, asiago and goat), AWESOME french fries and a great bar selection. Everything is reasonably priced and the atmosphere is classic and really lively (not in an ear-piercing, chaotic way). The crowd is pretty young. The restaurant can accomodate parties of pretty much any size, and they have a small corkage fee if you're interested in saving a few bucks by bringing your own wine/champagne.
There outdoor patio is nice and they're open late so you can get those fries and a night cap at 1:30am if you so crave.
Definitely one of my top ten places to have a reasonably priced, delicious meal in LA.

I'm all down for great food for low prices... which is why there aren't more stars for this place

i love the presentation of the food. very pretty and very stylized. waiters are a bit snobby...

food is delicious... however I think they tend to over-do things like cheese. I had a friend who is a big eater that couldn't finish a bowl of the mac and cheese because it's just got too much cheese in it. I know what you're probably thinking... WHAT?!?! THERES NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH CHEESE. well I thought so too.... until i grabbed a bite.

I think it's wayy over-priced for being the cafe that it is. It feels like it's trying to be upscale but not enough... so stuck in between ... but got confused with the pricing because they're still using kinda basic ingredients.
