I'll just add my recent kudos to the reviews already submitted. We still have money on the books for the Make-It-Work guys, and they have done a decent job for us, but a lot of it seemed to be about running up the amount of time they took to fix something and then trying to sell us more time. Plus I had a hardware issue and I wasn't sure if they deal with hardware issues.
Took my Dell 8400 to Peter. It's about 7 years old, the hard drive is full, sometimes it won't turn on, it's really slow, I get bumped off of Mozilla, etc. Not ready to invest in another computer, so I wanted to know what to do to keep this one going for a while longer.
He couldn't diagnose why the computer would not turn on at times, but determined it was not a capacitor, and removed a defective memory stick, and thought that could be the cause. He gave me advice on where to purchase memory on line (http://Crucial.com), we talked about what type of external hard drive to buy, and about two weeks, 4 Megs of RAM and a 750 Gig Western Digital Passport hard drive later, my computer is really back up to speed! I was concerned about the external hard drive because reviews on line seemed to indicate that they could be difficult to instally properly, but he had no problems at all. He also affixed the drive to the top of my tower (with double sided mounting tape I happened to have) so there wouldn't be any accidents and destruction of contents.
He came and installed all the RAM, installed the hard drive without problem, started the file transfer, programmed an automatic weekly backup, reconnected my daughter's laptop printer driver so she can print remotely and answered all my questions. All in one hour at a very good price.
He also was very timely and nice. I highly recommend him and will use him again if I need to. -

The LCD of my Macbook Intel Core 2 Duo stopped working. After browsing on do-it-yourself websites and asking for quotes from a couple repair shops, I decided to go with Peter's PC Repair based on all the 5 star reviews on Yelp.
My experience was like taking your computer to the Genius Bar after your warranty expires. Peter was able to quickly diagnose the problem (free of charge), quoted the price of the repair + parts, and asked if you wanted to proceed. Since the LCD screen had to be ordered, he did not overcharge for the price of the part. The cost of labor was also very competitive.
In the future, I plan to return to Peter's PC Repair for all my mac and pc repair needs! For anyone who has computer issues, I strongly urge you to call Peter and see what he can do for you! -

Not much on this planet has the power to freak me out and confuse me as computer technology. Even the slightest glitch can eff up my life and usually I can't do anything about it myself. So when my calendar magically disappeared this weekend, it took my past and future along with it. Comparative shopping had me believing this would take days and hundreds to fix. Peter did it in ten minutes. Now, it wasn't an awful glitch, so that was lucky. BUT, Peter was efficient, communicative, proactive with suggestions which goes a long way to building trust and comfort. He is my new comp guru.

Peter was very friendly and helpful when my beloved laptop crashed. He explained the problem, and gave me my options quickly and concisely. He quoted me an extremely fair price and helped me the very same day. I highly recommend him for any and all computer-related repairs and absolutely will return if I ever have any more problems.

This guy is great.
Superb knowledge of my Dell Inspiron 1545. I had a display problem that affected both the LCD and outgoing display capabilities to the monitor. He gave me a lot of troubleshooting tips and somehow the display happened to come back to life. From the symptoms, he was able to deduce a couple of parts that could use preventative replacement. He gave me the part nos. and he is allowing me to procure the parts and call him once they are in.
I highly recommend. -

After having my computer saved by Peter, I had to write a review to confirm that everything you're reading on the numerous glowing reviews are true.
I was pleasantly surprised that taking care of my laptop issues was so easy! My Inspiron was rattling and the overall performance of my computer was starting to deteriorate, and Peter did for me in two days what Dell said would take a month. And he was also much less expensive! And (unlike Dell), not at all frustrating to deal with!
I have a friend who fixes computers who is honest and great at what he does, but he lives too far away to help me. Peter is the next best thing! I ultimately just want to know that the job will be done right and that I'm paying a fair price. Peter did that and also did not speak to me as if I was stupid when he was explaining my computer's issues. I'm so glad I found him here on yelp; I'm not going anywhere else for my computer needs.
Thank you Peter! -

Let me say I know beyond next to nothing about computers and have had some VERY bad experiences with Geek Squad home repair types so I was very nervous about contacting anyone. Due to the reviews on here I thought I'd give Peter a shot and he's AMAZING and I will NEVER use another computer person again as Peter is friendly, knowledgeable and quick in getting back to you. He came over and set up my computer after his expert analysis and was first class all the way. Never made me feel dumb for asking probably a ton of dumb questions and if you have a computer that needs fixing I HIGHLY recomend Peter. If you read my reviews on here you know I don't BS if I find a service poor and if they had 10 Stars Peter would get them all.

Peter is amazing - we had an external hard disk failure and we had no backup of the pictures that was on the drive. I tried various methods from online answers to try to fix the drive to no avail. Many professional data recovery companies charge upwards of $1300 to recover hard disk data, but Peter recovered all of our data for $180 flat. He was friendly, recommended me to get a software to monitor the health of the hard drive. If I have any trouble with computers in the future, I will be calling him first.

It was pretty embarrassing to have a computer problem I couldn't solve myself -- but much more embarrassing to have my most important hard drive fail and not have any backups. Really, I know better.
I tried everything I could to recover the data off of a hard drive that could not be detected by any machine in my house, but I failed miserably. Desperate, I took it to Peter, and within a few days I had all of my data back. I still don't know why he could see the drive and I couldn't, but I don't really care. I'm just elated to have my pictures and music back!
Two very, very awesome things:
- He told me he wouldn't charge me unless he could recover my data (never met a tech who didn't charge something just to take a look)
- He quoted me one price upon dropping off my drive and when I went to pick it up, charged me $30 less, even though I was already prepared to write the check for the quoted amount. He would have totally gotten away with charging me more.
I've learned my lesson, and hopefully I will not need his help again. However I'm glad to know he's around if I find a problem I can't solve. -

I really hate PC's and the only reason I'm using one is because my wife had a spare, and I'm saving up for heavenly MAC...
My laptop got invaded by nasty viruses that disabled every function on the laptop.. Was hating life..
Looked up Peter on yelp and he fixed everything... Gave me advice on "real" anti virus programs and offered follow up if anything wasn't working right....
He's a good dude and knows his computer stuffs pretty well.. I highly recommend his services.. -

Peter was a true blessing! My NAS had broken down, due to a power outage. It was configured as RAID-1 and I couldn't even access the hard diskettes when I attached them to my PC under Windows or Linux. Professional data recovery agents gave me quotes in the range of $2500 which was ridiculous and I had almost given up before I found Peter on Yelp.
He could successfully recover all the data within a day, which I think is nothing short of amazing. Moreover, his data recovery charges are fixed and less than a tenth of the other quotes I received. I'm also impressed by his professionalism and would seek his services for all my future computer needs. -
Review from Bill S.
Small business at its best, Pete and his computer repair service earn my five stars for competent, fast and fairly priced work.
Day before a business trip I tried to swap discs on my Macbook. This is not a big deal.. the hard disk on a Macbook is designed to be user swappable. However, in the swapping the rubber guide rails that hold the drive in place pulled out. Replacing them isn't exactly hard, but requires a little bit of practice. Don't ask me how I know.
I didn't have the time to do it myself, or the inclination to risk messing it up, so I did what anyone would do: typed Computer Repair into Yelp and started dialing. Called the top rated three places within 10 minutes of me. One couldn't do it that day, one wanted a $120 rush charge and four hours. One was coy.. they wanted me to come in so we could discuss it, then maybe they'd tell me if I they could do it that day and for how much. Yea, well, I want a house in Hawaii and a private orchestra, and that's not happening either.
Then I gave Peter a call. He gave me his address and said to come by whenever. He fixed it in 30 minutes while I ate lunch down the block and charged me $35.00. Easy, painless, competent and fairly priced.
Only negative I can come up: he's a one-man show: I got lucky he was in the office that day, he could just as well been on location with a client. But never mind - next time I need computer work Peter is the first call I make. -

I also found Peter's PC Repair due to a Yelp search for "data recovery" and am so happy I did. I only wish I had found him earlier. He was able to squeeze me in before closing up shop for a long (and I assume well-deserved) winter vacation.
Peter was able to recover some of the data from my busted harddrive. The Geeks at Best Buy were not able to recover anything (see that review), so he's smarter than they are! Unfortunately Peter wasn't able to recover many of my word documents, but he was able to save all my photos, so that's certainly something!
His prices are reasonable (cash or check), and he's super friendly and quick to get back to you over the phone. Parking along his street can be difficult, but you can usually find something within a block of his home office. Recommended! I will certainly be using his services again should I have any more computer issues in the future. -

Long ago, I was an application integration engineer. Now I am a consultant and I have lost my technical chops.
See: http://static.px.yelp.... for (what should probably be) my resume.
Nancy did a bad bad thing, Nancy did a bad bad thing.
Nancy did a bad bad thing, feel like crying, feel like crying.
Oh, feel like crying, feel like crying.
Oh, feel like crying, feel like crying.
(apologies to Chris Isaak)
I changed from a domain to a workgroup on the primary user account on my old WinXP laptop. No problem -- as long as you have not forgotten the Administrator user's password.
Oops.
As soon as I hit the button to restart, I knew there was going to be a problem. If you have (forgotten the admin. password) AND you're a consultant and have, by definition, lost most all useful technical knowledge, you: (a) haul ass into the office and wait while all the engineers laugh at you and act out your shame with hand puppets before they help you (I don't mind being mocked, I just hate driving all the way from San Francisco to Pleasant Hill to be mocked); (b) you figure it out yourself (too busy); or (c) you stop wasting time and call somebody who will help you.
I called Peter at Peter's PC Repair.
Peter was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. He helped me with the aforementioned problem as well as a short laundry list of other things I wanted to get done quickly or provided me the missing links in my own knowledge to complete, like migrating MS Outlook Express and Outlook PST's to MS Outlook 2007, checking out and replacing the fan on my Win2k box, and consulting on virus protection options and home networking.
He did good work and I would definitely use his services again.

I had another huge computer meltdown and lost my hard drive and (I thought) all of my data on it. I was checking into data recovery services like Drive Savers in Novato, but was told that I would need to pay like $2,500 to get my data back. Yikes! I decided to see what a local PC repair could do. I found Peter through Yelp and I'm so happy I did. He is very competent and a nice normal guy. I went to drop off the my computer in the afternoon about 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. and he was done restoring the data by 12:00 noon the next day. Talk about fast service.
From what I can tell, he was able to restore all the data. And he charged me less than I expected! I will definitely use him again if I have any PC problems.
Thanks, Peter. :) -

Peter is phenomenal.
That pretty much sums it up. One day my Mac decided to just stop working, completely. A friend told me about Peter and I gave him call. He was friendly and accommodating. I brought him my computer the next evening and a few days later he called saying he had recovered all my data. I was so relieved! Peter is the whole package: capable, friendly, affordable, flexible and (for me) in the neighborhood. The best. -

Peter is a gem! I have been happily using macs for many, many years. But now with a new business and the software I need to use being only available for pcs, I ponied up some cash and got a new macbook that could run xp with parallels. It sounded so effortless in the online descriptions. Yeah, right!
Within four days, the pc side of my beloved macbook was seriously infected with a nasty, insidous virus. I freaked, not having any experience with viruses (i LOVE apple). I called several places including some independent guys and the geeks. Most people wouldn't touch a system with parallels. They either know macs or pcs, not both. And the geeks who claimed to know it all, weren't available for days and wanted a chunk of cash.
I called Peter who was available immediately. He was friendly, fast, thorough, and very reasonable. He's my hero! (I now have his number saved in my phone, just in case.) -

I think that it is quite appropriate for me to have waited 1 year to review Peter's pc repair skills. My lil'PC STILL works right !!
I don't have to tell you, dealing with computer problems is slightly worse than getting a bikini wax from a speed freak, I mean I wouldn't know...but I can imagine.
So, I arrived at Peter's PC Repair, pleasantly surprised to find that it was an apartment where Peter and his girlfriend live. While I waited for my computer to be fixed, I hung out in the kitchen and chatted with Peter's girlfriend.
Peter installed virus protection software and other goodness I would not have thought of. I don't even remember what the problem with my computer was, I think I needed to get an extra memory card installed. Anyway, it was all good and he didn't charge much for the labor at all. Also, later that night when I couldn't get the wireless radio to turn on I called Peter and he very patiently explained to me how to make it work
Absolutely no complaints about the service, which says a lot in this town.
The whole experience left me glowy with happiness. That NEVER happened when I went to the genius bar with my old mac. I friggin' hate the genius bar. -

I dropped my external hard drive while it was on last night. Here's what happened:
1- The drive made kept making beeping/clicking noises and would not turn on (there goes 10+ years worth of music and pics! the stupid thing is that i had actually bought a backup drive that was just sitting around- i was just too lazy to copy the files over)
2- I yelped "pc repair" and found Peter's PC Repair
3- I used Peter's online request form to explain my problem (http://www.peterspcrep...)
4- Peter emailed me back the next day and let me know that although he couldn't help me, he could recommend some data recovery places that could help. (It turns out that since my drive was on when it was dropped the drive suffered physical damage). Of the 5 places he recommended only (1) of them is on yelp (IntelliRecovery)- I think I'll give them a call.
Conclusion: I think its awesome that Peter was upfront with the fact that he couldn't help me vs. having me drop off my hard drive, he inspects it, realizes he can't do anything, and then charges me for nothing (which is what some places would do!) If I ever have another problem I'm going back to Peter!
* I have updated my review to reflect 4 stars b/c I actually never used their service.* -

Five gold stars, this dude is awesome!!!
A while ago, my computer got jacked up. Stopped working, couldn't load anything, etc. etc. A nightmare. I found Peter by searching yelp. I read all the reviews for Peter and others (e.g., Geek Squad, etc.) and decided to give Peter a try, despite my initial suspicions, and there were plenty.... Was this legit? Would he steal my computer? What is the recourse? What if he closes his business? Who is this dude? Where is the address? What if he makes things worse? What if he makes up a problem and totally overcharges me? Is this a sham? What if, what if.
Well, I called Peter up and dropped off my computer. He was incredibly helpful, professional, good guy. My computer was fixed in a day, at a very reasonable price. Basically, like all the other yelp reviewers say, he's a good guy who knows his PCs and doesn't give you any BS, nor does he try to gouge you for money. I would recommend taking your computer to Peter to all my friends. A fantastic, all around experience. Five stars. Thanks yelp for leading me here. Yay!
Oh, the location is kind of not close to public transportation, so have a friend take you, or do a speedy drop off with a cab. -

Thank you Pete. Even though I work in high-tech I hate computers for their arbitrary failures - at least let it be due to me spilling water, dropping it, anything I can assign a reason as to why it happened.
My hard drive on my laptop went kaput for 'unknown reasons' and Pete was able to get every last bit of data off of it including all my email. I dropped it off Monday night and had it Thursday morning with a brand new hard drive. Just turned it on and it is like nothing ever happened - except that it runs a lot faster!
Highly recommend everyone get an external hard drive - cost me $99 for a Hitachi 500GB at Best Buy. I was lucky Pete was able to get my data back... -

OK, the Yelpers have redeemed themselves...lol
The idiots at SFPD raided my apartment last August (unfortunately for THEM, it was the wrong house...had they performed any type of due diligence they would've know that lil fact; it'll be great for me in the long run though!!! lol); during the process, they managed to either step on or drop my laptops (yeah, three different laptops in two different rooms) & cracked the LCD on this one (the others power up at will or won't power up at all; guess where it'll be going next week?! lol)...Peter just got done repairing my LCD & it's as good as August!!! Very friendly, good communication, quick service,& very reasonable rates...I'll be back! -

I called Peter late one night when my computer was infected by a nasty virus. He returned my call the next day and schedule an appt immediately. If you are put off by conducting business in someones home... One: you are lame: Two: you will miss out on a great service. Peters place of business is in the Mission and as parking may be a challenge, its worth it.
Peter spent alot of time talking to me about viruses and how they are caught, managed etc. he was free from attitude, and had no chip on his shoulder like IT guys sometimes get. He made me feel comfortable, quoted me a price that didn't change and my computer was ready in 24 hours. I liked the experience and will call him again and refer all my friends.
P.S. Peter also sent me follow up advice via email after the appointment was paid for.
Thanks Peter!!! -

Peter is a magician.
In 4 days and $250 he did more than Dell wanted to do in 3 weeks for $750. He was also able to diagnose and fix over the phone in minutes a problem that has been bugging me for months. I will be back to set-up a home network and SAN.
His pictures aren't bad either ... -

I have pretty high professional standards and finally have a PC repair service that I trust and respect. Peter is pretty amazing: smart, honest, straightforward, and service-oriented. He's also reasonably and competitively priced. I could not be happier with his recent work on a troublesome PC problem. (Peter also works on Macs too.)
One last thing: Peter knows how to talk to people about technology in an easy-to-understand way. You won't feel intimidated or spoken down to.

This is only my second yelp: the first one was a big fat 1 (it would be zero stars if I could) for Ticket Bastard, and now this one with a glorious 5 stars.
A fabulous experience, Peter was very helpful, prompt and honest about what he could do and not do. Service was fast and even threw in some extra work to improve the very slow boot up times. Not only did he fix and do the additional work, he then promptly charged me less than his original (and very affordable) quote, even though I had already ok'ed the original charge.
He definitely knows what he's doing, and gave me a detailed overview of what was up. The computer runs like new and he improved its performance by removing the usual crap that accumulates over 2 or 3 years of downloading random programs and willy-nilly installing without keeping an eye on the impact on the system.
A big thumbs up! I love to support small local businesses, especially one as competent and affordable as this one and this one definitely is one of the best I've had to deal with. I'll definitely go back if I need him, and will send anyone I know his way. -

Pete is awesome. Had a registry problem not allowing page to load after running malwarebytes. Figured there was a simple solution but none of the tech answers I searched for online solved the problem. That search was time-consuming. I finally called, he had some time and helped me immediately. In fact Pete figured out solution in about 2 minutes. We discussed some other computer-related issues for a few minutes. All over the phone. Prices are more than reasonable and he's genuinely a good guy. Fair and knowledgeable. Save yourself a lot of wasted time and call him.

i found him on yelp when my PC started blue screening. I first read all the reviews and decided that i would give it a shot too, esp. considering how much less than geeksquad it was. On top of this i really do trust the opinions of other yelpers.
He picked up the first time i called which apparently doesn't always happen. I couple other times i called i got the message but he returns the calls pretty quick.
he fixed the entire computer, found the problem and even helped me order a replacement part on Dell's website. Luckily the computer was still under warranty so he only charged me for the labor. On top of this he ordered a 2nd video card for me and installed it so that could use 3 monitors now. Real nice guy that Pete. Everything still came out cheaper than geek squad.
1 tip, his neck of the mission has no parking, so bring a friend when you drop off to wait in the car.
He deserves all the stars he gets. I would recommend him to anyone. -

It's nice to know that there are honest, helpful people out there running great businesses. I'll certainly bring all future repairs to Peter's PC Repair.
I called Peter after the wireless card on my Compaq laptop stopped working 90 days after my warranty expired. Compaq was of course unhelpful and I saw the good reviews for Peter's PC Repair on Yelp. I asked about bringing in my computer, but he first went through a series of steps with me on the phone to identify the problem. He said the problem was with the motherboard, which was common on this model of Compaq laptops. He told me the exact name of the warranty program to search for. I googled it, called, and sure enough, Compaq is sending me a box to return my computer for repair. -

First Yelp review for me (I tend to be more a reader than a contributor).
Unanticipated and nasty hard drive failure + no backup in the last 5 months=kicking myself in the head that I could be so stupid with my precious data. I tried a number of things on my own but hit a wall on salvaging my files off of the still good sectors on my Seagate spinning piece of crap.
So I found Peter on Yelp hoping for some miracle and ready to spend a bundle as penance for my stupidity (but really with little hope) as I know people who spent thousands to get (some of) their data restored.
Within a week a dropping off my dead hardware, Peter had pretty much recovered everything and charged me a "whopping" $150.00. He even diagnosed a dying transformer of the external hard drive I provided for him to copy the (very few) files I was expecting to (maybe) retrieve and sold me a used replacement for $10.00, saving me the hunt for, ordering, shipping and waiting for that accessory from Western Digital.
There's nothing like getting your expectations exceeded. I was counting on far less to be recovered and on paying 3 or 4 times what he charged me. The guy's honest, fast, efficient, budget-friendly and local. It's a no brainer: if you have a computer problem and you think it's hopeless, give Peter a shot, there's just no downside that I can think of. -

PETER TOTALLY ROCKS.
I've now used Peter's PC Repair services twice, and both times, he saved me and my computer-based life. The first time, two years ago, my computer just crashed and burned, and I was sick with the thought that I hadn't backed up and had lost everything. He managed to retrieve the data and restore my computer (with a new working hard drive) to a better than ever state, with virus protections and registry and spyware software. And remind me, once again, how much I needed to BACK UP my stuff.
Then last week, a Windows update totally messed up my computer again (is that what an update is supposed to do?) and my registry wasn't working, my applications weren't working, and my USB ports were dead. I called him up and he called me right back, I took it in that afternoon (I was lucky he had the time), and while I sat there he fixed it so it was brand new again, and totally functional. I had actually spent a couple of days trying to troubleshoot the problem myself with the Lenovo laptop website, and only made matters worse - Peter knows what he is doing, and had all the problems solved in 45 minutes. And he is insanely reasonable with his rates! I totally lucked out finding him, he's a true godsend. I only hope he doesn't get too popular once the world finds out how great he is! Peter's PC is awesome. -

I have called on Peter twice in a little over a year. This is what I wrote after my first experience (just found out that it never made it up on yelp)
Very Helpful. All my computer problems were taken care of. I learned a little and most importantly I got my computer back working as good as new.
-------------
2nd experience...
I got a new computer: My IBM Lenovo Thinkpad T60 stopped working. It's under warranty. I called IBM. The technician said, "oh no, you lost everything unless you buy a full retail version of windows XP (over $200). I called Peter, he came the next day. Saved almost all of my docs, let me know that it was a hardware failure, and set up my wireless network for me. He was helpful, punctual, he seemed to treat my computer like a good doctor treats a patient.
I know a lot of comments on yelp are PR/advertising BS, but this is not the case.

I had great luck with peter's pc repair. my new HP had slowed to a crawl and whenever I tried to go on the internet a million popups would come up. After calling a couple places I was worried about how much it would cost. When I talked to Peter I was impressed by his knowledge and his low rate. He was able to come to my house the next day and now my computer is working great. He explained what happened and how I could prevent it from happening again. His pointers were great and he didn't talk over my head. If I have problems again I'll definitely call him.

Peter is so tremendously great that I am compelled to join Yelp just to sing his praises!
He first helped my by recovering a hard drive on a computer that had a heart attack and died. Extreme professionalism, fast turnaround and no talking down to you. He charged $140. CompUSA's quote? $500.
Next, he came by my home office and reincarnated a dead wireless network into a super-powered super-cool network that works everywhere and has all kind of new tricks. All for a whopping $150.
Computer broken? Call Peter.
Want a cool home network? Call Peter.
Want to soup up your performance? Call Peter.
My only complaint? He's too cheap! Peter is just simply fantastic and I feel guilty paying him the low rates that he charges. Thanks for all of your help, Peter! -

Peter saved my life . . . and my dissertation. He fixed a problem which others were demanding $500 for consultation in $80. The computer repair world is often really difficult to navigate in that there is always someone standing in the wings waiting to steel your money. And they can. Why? Because they know that you have no f***ing clue what to do. Peter was very honest and incredibly affordable. I really appreciated his expediency in dealing with the matter as well. I highly recommend him unless you're the type who gets off on pretend dorks in girly cars "fixing" your computer for way to much money. . .
