I stumbled in here late on a Saturday night with a friend of mine as we were drunkenly making our way through bars in the general area.  We first attempted to go to the Campbell Apartment, and we peaked in and realized it was packed and no longer the charming speakeasy joint it once was.  As such, we walked across the street to Peter Dillon's.

Their karaoke was in full swing, with a few ringers belting out serviceable renditions of Adele's "Someone Like You" and Celine Dion hits.  My friend, who fancies himself quite the singer (he's horrific) signed himself up to sing.  I hoped we'd be gone by the time his name was called.

The bar was full but not too packed, and we were able to get a couple of seats near the karaoke area to watch the action.  Bartenders were friendly and quick with a pint, which is all you can ask for.

Alas, we were still there when my friends name was called.  He sang "One" by U2, and absolutely murdered it.  He was so drunk he actually thought he nailed it.

All in all, this is a good little bar if you're in the area and in the mood for some karaoke on a Saturday night.  It's a nice mix of patrons, both old and young.

The staff at Dillons are true scholars and gentlemen.. They even offer waiter service direct to the mens room stall if your friend happens to be curled up at the bottom of one with his head buried in porcelain. They even offered him the choice of flat or bubbles before passing it under the stall door... class acts all the way man.

Complete with the requisite midtown Irish accents and a full grasp and understanding of the importance of buybacks (maybe too well my projectile friend would probably say) Dillons is a pearl in a sea of midtown flotsam.  If only they served food to soak up some of the swill.

Kudos to a job well done lads!

Where have you been all my drunken life?

Finding this perfectly good dive bar tucked away on 40th St. between Lex and 3rd is like finding a crumpled twenty in your laundry bag, and using that twenty to buy beer.

    Priorities.

Great neighborhood dive bar in midtown.  We've only been here for happy hour.  Nothing special, just cheap drinks with great service at the bar and from the waitress.  I like a bar that keeps your mug filled!  Good midtown location, close to GCT for the ride home.  There's a lot of room and a pool table.  We've been there when there was a singer/songwriter playing a decent selection of covers.  Great happy hour prices for tap beer.

I've only been here on Friday and Saturday nights, which are the karaoke nights, so I cannot speak for other nights at Peter Dillion's.

The interior is smallish and dark but has enough seating and places to place your drink, while still having a decent amount of standing room. The karaoke night here is great! Big variety on the night I went some people were the standard "drunk, missing words, slurring the song-type" (which is always welcome at karaoke obviously) but then there are some really good singers who show up.

There were a few girls who sang great (even harmonized on duets - not often seen at a karaoke bar) I got one of thier names and looked her up you should check her out:

    http://www.youtube.com...

The karaoke DJ is smart and plays a dance/rock/hip-hop song in-between each performer, so it breaks up the karaoke a bit which is nice.

As far as the service here, the bartenders are great! Really friendly, pour a great drink, don't make you wait forever, and both of the bartenders sang karaoke and were good. It's fun to see your bartender get up there and have fun. The drinks are decently cheap.

One thing I enjoy is going to a bar/pub that you don't have to climb over and kill people to try and get a drink, this place was pretty full but it was really easy to get drinks.

If you like chill, laid-back, irish bars with friendly bartenders and cheap drinks - you will like Peter Dillon's. (If you like karaoke, you'll like it on Fri & Sat)

Chilled out Irish bar/pub.  Great to grab afterwork drinks, as happy hour runs until 8pm.  They have pretty decent specials including $4 pints of stella, and tequila and jaager shots!!  The bartenders are really friendly, and they play a decent selection of music.

The only downside is that it is a little bit dark, and when I went there last night the music was pretty loud so my friend and I had to do a bit of yelling to hold a conversation.  Other than that, cool spot. I'll be returning.

For what it is, it's four stars.

I've only ever been there between 5:30 - 8pm. They play generally above-average music for a midtown bar, and it's usually at most 50% "business casual" jerks fresh from the office (full disclosure: I'm one of them). Happy hour is until 8, I believe, and you get $4 Stella / Blue Moon and I think Bud Light now too, in case you're insane and prefer that over the other two. $4 Jameson (and now Jagermeister!) shots.

It's not a dive, but it's not McFaddens and the like either - making it one of my favorite spots for happy hour. That and it's just down the block from my office, on the way to the subway.

They have great drinks, beer selection and it get's fairly crowded, and loud on Weekends..

Great Irish pub for an after work happy hour... i work a block away and probably been here like 30 times so far.  Their happy hour is from 5 to 7pm weekdays, they have $4 pints of Stella, Blue Moon or Bud Light or shots of Jameson or Jaegar.  The bartenders are all cool, the crowd is mostly an afterwork crowd, but not many suits... usually business casual.   There's a few TVs by the bar, a pool table in the back, and various seating and tables all around.    They don't serve food, but they do have menu's from restaurants in the neighborhood that do so if you want to order something and have it delivered, you can.   About 630-700, they dim the lights and it gets dark.    Sometimes it gets really loud and it's always crowded during Thurs or Friday happy hours.  Stick around for 3-4 beers, and you might get the next beer on the house.  I usually do - like I said, great pub for after work.

Funny, friendly and scary Irishman serving you pints is how every pub should be.  I was immediately picked out as a tourist for not knowing what Blue Moon was.  Now I know.

Wandered in here before dinner on a Saturday and the place was quiet.  Football and footie were playing on select TVs throughout. Happy hour was just starting and a few patrons really didn't need that additional 60 minutes.

Good selection of pints.  Great to see a Man. United jersey on the wall, as I'd normally get a headbutt for wearing one in any other place.

This bar has football (soccer for the Yanks) memorabilia for every team that I loathe, including:

    Manchester United
    Barca
    Arsenal
    Juventus

So me and Peter Dillon were not starting out on the best of terms.

Things got better though, as the extremely strong vodka sodas only got stronger and stronger.  There was also a Jameson happy hour special, which got my seal of approval.  For a Midtown bar, the crowd is not the typical McFadden's or Calico Jack crew, which is always welcome.

On the particular evening that I was there, there were plenty of pool sharks and people who thought they could belt out "Stairway to Heaven" when the karaoke started.  Proof that some things do NOT improve with increased drinking.

The drinks are cheap, the bartender is attentive and there is always a decent crowd. I definitely recommend it for happy hour. I should point out that if you are looking for a bar that serves food this is not the place for you. No food is served here.

    Bleh.

We had already drank a bunch of wine at a Chinese restaurant before we arrived at this gem of a bar out in the nowhere of Midtown . . .

My friends kept forcing crazy drinks on me, everything from Car Bombs to Prairie Fires, and well, needless to say, I have a bitching headache right now.

But it was all for a good cause, Dan's 30th birthday - happy birthday, Dan! - but really, my head still hurts right now.

As for the bar itself, like I said, "Bleh."  If you like cougars, it's your type of a place, though.   Happy hunting.

Reluctant to write a review on this one, cause I live around the corner and don't necessarily want the secret out- but this is a great spot to watch football on a Sunday.  They have a ton of nice flat screen TV's scattered through out the place and its NEVER too crowded.  Bartenders are friendly and so are the customers- and they have every game on so what's not to like.  Good Guinness pour too.

The only thing I can say is they advertise free food, which isn't really right.  They don't have free food.  But you can order in and there are a ton of places really close by (Best Wingers, Famous Chicken Place) that'll get you the food you need as quick as if they had a kitchen.

Now as far as going to this place at other times- I'm not really sure.  The guy:girl ratio always seems pretty high from peering into the window.

Two words. Pear brandy. No wait, make that four words. Blackberry brandy. Sorry, I like brandy.

I love this bar. A pretty standard after-work type place, except the bar tender at this pub is ACTUALLY irish, and even says lassie! Always willing to put the TV on whatever channel you want. Nice pool table, and friendly atmosphere.

The kind of place where if you stay long enough, they start giving you drinks on the house. Who doesn't love that. Just an all around mellow place.

My only complaint is the tiny bathroom and the crazy steep stairs getting to it.

After a birthday meal at Phoenix Chinese Restaurant http://www.yelp.com/bi... Gretchen B. and I trailed the rest of the group, as she continued her crazy antics - thanks to the BYO-policy - up E 40th St.  She kicked piles of garbage, knocked over signs, made objectionable and obnoxious gestures, and tried and failed to climb poles repeatedly.

When we finally caught up with the rest of the crowd, they were standing at Lex, trying to figure out where Michael S. - our default party planner of the night - and his friend had disappeared to.

We had just walked past a place called Peter Dillon's, noting how random it was for us to have been there before, out here in the wastelands of Midtown.  Gretchen B. and I looked at each other, and in a moment of sobriety, we exchanged a single telepathic thought: "He's not in Peter Dillon's, is he?!"

    He was.

Well, we proceeded to explode car bombs, set off prairie fires, visit the doctor, and fly kamikaze, but something was missing.

The venue did nothing to add to our festivities and I solemnly swear to actively seek not to go back to Peter Dillon's.

Oddly, I was more sober when I left Dillon's than when I'd entered it.

Due to its proximity to my offices in Midtown, this is the Irish pub of choice when it comes to happy hour.

Nothing fancy about this place...your typical pub...with the typical beer stench...but hey...they are good at pouring a good pint!

For those into billiard, they even have a pool table.

And if the drinking is starting to get to you, ask for the menus...a lot of places deliver food for your eating pleasure!

Now, as much as I love my Irish brethren, I'm English so the appearance of a barman from the Emerald Isle doesn't excite me so much. A Plastic Paddy I am not. But 'Yer Man' here is actually an excellent host, ably assisted by various Brits.

This place just has the 'X-Factor'; it makes me happy. I love the pool table, I hate the fact it's 'New York's Number 1 Man U Bar' (being an Arsenal fan), I love the way the sun shines in through the windows of an afternoon, I don't give a damn about having to walk down the rickety stairs to pee.

Just the right mix of dive and slightly classier dive.

Thank you fellow yelpers for helping me make the great decision of going here after work yesterday; it was a GREAT choice.
Peter Dillon's is that great after-work drink spot for those in the area looking for somewhere "off the beaten path" of all the Grand Central/Times Square madness.
We got there just at the right time; sometime between 5:45-6:00. The main bar had no open seats so we wandered to the cute cushioned bench seats with tables. I had read about the $4 happy hour and indulged on $4 blue moons and Jameson shots happily (I think somewhere I read HH ends at seven, but in fact, its 8!) The 'lounging' area was nicely decorated with a tasteful country/pub feel to it, including festive Christmas decorations/lights, it was a nice cozy spot to relax and have a beer after work; there was a pool table and all of the tv's were at the bar, so it was nice to not have a distracting tv right in your face, but at a glance you can check out what's going on at the bar.
Probably around 6:30ish it got really crowded and I was thankful for my cozy table. The only server/waitress I saw working was very attentive, until it started getting busy.
All in all, a nice cozy pub thats close to GC, I will be returning, I'm sure :)

The Blue Moon is $4 during Happy Hour. the music is great. Sky Sport on TV.

I like this bar for happy hour. The drink specials are decent, usually featuring something other than Bud Light like Smithwick or Bass.
If you arrive early enough for happy hour, you can usually find a nice corner spot to sit and drink, which is nice because the beers come to you [via waitress].
    Bartenders and waitresses are A+.
Don't expect to see basketball or baseball on the TVs at this bar; soccer..err..football dominates.

Great bar in midtown if you want a bar for drinking.  If you're looking for specialized martinis or a place to be seen with the in crowd look elsewhere.  But if you like great bartenders who pour strong drinks and good sports coverage then this is the place for you.  It is an interesting eclectic crowd that ranges from suits to laborers to groups of euro tourists stopping in for a pint or three.  Decent beer selection but not a 50 tap bar.  Also, it is a Yankees, Man U, and a Oakland Raiders bar, so be forewarned.

Huge fan of this pub. I have been working down the block form Peter Dillons for about three years now and have to say I come here at least one every week. The location is great, being next to Grand Central and the 4 5 6 trains. There is no food service but they have a folder in which it displays all the food you are able to order in. From Chicken wings to meatball sandwiches. The decor is your classic pub decor, with a killer mural on one side of the wall. A lot of seating and it's very open and airy. Def not cramp and stuffy like you might find some pubs to be. The pool table is always fun when hanging out with friends. Go on Mondays because the pool table it open for free. Ton's of TVs to get your sports fix. The bartenders and great. I can just go on and on about this place. If you get the chance stop in for a happy hour. You won't be disappointed

It's your typical after-work bar.  It's really packed from 5 to about 7:30 (the happy hour stops at 7) and the crowd greatly disappears after that.  And it's mostly old dudes in business suits hanging out.  They have a pool table and it only costs $2 to play.  But most of the people you'll be going against play at that bar every day, so expect to lose, unless you're really good. On Mondays, it's free to play though.  And maybe it's just me, but the draft beers taste different every time i go.  I got a Harp one time and it was good.  The next time around, got the same thing, and it tasted nasty. I'm usually here on Thursdays and there was (or still is) the waitress Karen who is so friendly, so nice, and she actually remembers you the next time you come in, even though there are hundreds of other people at the bar.

I went here on a Thursday night... a decent crowd... enough people, but enough space to stand around with a group comfortably without being bothered by people trying to get by.  We eventually found a couple of tables in the back and hung out there for the rest of the evening.  The drinks are priced reasonably.  I think what's missing in this place is food... if only they had great bar food.

This is an Irish style after-work bar, and a local for the mini-hotels nearby. Despite the sign in the window that promises Warm Beer, Bad Food, THERE IS NO FOOD! Half a block away, however, is a Qdoba. You can take out the food from there, and bring it in to P.D. The bar itself is a nice place, with a few too many TVs. Patrons at the bar are plenty friendly, and  it's a good place to meet people. As for the tables, the waitress leaves early (about 10:30) and most of the drinkers do the same.

A solid pub in a wasteland of wannabe trendy spots. Good, solid drinks, usually a decent crowd, that's about it. The place can get packed, but when there's room to move and the volume doesn't prohibit conversation, it's a nice place to waste a couple of hours.
