We've been to the Evanston location a few times and more recently tried this location. I believe the menu is the same, and the quality of the food as well. The steak eaters thought their steaks were very good, and my salmon was excellent. Also, the martini was perfect.
It's a much bigger space than the Evanston location. On the plus side, there are some nice booths, and the dining room is swank and attractive. Our waiter was attentive and professional. One thing that disappointed me was that if you're deep into the dining room like we were, you're likely not going to hear a note of the jazz. The band was good, and it was a big-number birthday dinner for a jazz lover, so I wish we could have been closer. -

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and my boyfriend took me here for my birthday last night (a Sunday night). We had a 7 pm reservation although there were plenty of open tables. They were going to seat us in the dining room but my boyfriend asked if we could sit in the bar because he wanted to hear the jazz music, and I was ok with that, but after a while I regretted it because the bartender was loud and made some really lewd comments. Our server (Kent) was very helpful and friendly, though. Neither of us are big red wine drinkers but wanted to have it with the steak, so our server gave us some guidance on what to pick and we ended up really enjoying the bottle we ordered.
Our lobster bisque was really good. I ordered the 7 oz. filet with the blue cheese and caramelized onion crust with a side of baked mac and cheese. Boyfriend ordered NY strip with herbed mushrooms, side of creamed spinach. We both really enjoyed our meals, but only finished half of each of them because we were getting really full and everything was so rich. Even though we were getting full, we stupidly each ordered our own dessert. (Side note here: we told the hostess and our server that it was my birthday, but I think they forgot because I was expecting a free slice of cake with some candles in it or something, but nada. That was disappointing) I got bananas foster and he got key lime pie. We ended up packing up the entire slice of pie and just split the bananas foster b/c it had ice cream in it. Both desserts were pretty good but you can probably do without.
One reason I'm knocking off a star is because we both began to experience cramps and discomfort soon after we left the restaurant, and we both spent the rest of the night taking unproductive trips to the bathroom....We're not sure what made us feel *crappy* (get it?), whether something in the food was spoiled or not cooked right, or if it was just because it was too much rich food at once. I might give this place one more try when it's warm out, because the patio looks nice and I'd like to sit out there. -

Very helpful and accommodating when I made a prix-fixe reservation for a work dinner. The parmesan crusted filet is some of the best red meat I've ever eaten!
I will most likely come back here, even when work isn't paying for my meal. What sealed the deal? The live jazz band that started up later in the evening!! Good food, good service, and live jazz - you can't go wrong. -

Where do I start? The poor service, the over priced mediocre food, or the realization that with all of the great steak joints in the Chicago area, I ended up at this one?
Ok, I'll start out positive. It was a beautiful fall evening and our party of six ate on the patio. With multiple large fireplaces, it gave off a good vibe but it was right off Milwaukee Ave, so the sound of rushing cars blew the ambiance. Suggestion to management: grow some hedges.
After long of a wait for someone to come to our table, we finally had our server come by to announce that he will be our server, and then promptly left to work another table. Huh? I guess he just wanted us to know that we had somebody assigned to us...when he did come back, he then read verbatim from his cheat sheet, the specials of the evening, mispronouncing every 6th word. When of our party asked him how the fish was prepared, he simply re-read the description, with the same mispronunciation. Gee thanks for being so descriptive! Suggestion to management: leave a pre-printed card at the table and we can figure it out ourselves.
Now on to the food: Lobster Risotto - not very good. I doubt they used a lobster stock with it and frankly, I had just made it myself the night before and it was much better. I had the bone in strip steak and for $44, I expect expect it to be f**king awesome and it was not. It was good at best. To top it off, i had the creamed spinach with my steak the absolute worst ever! First, it wasn't very creamy - more like sautéed with a touch of 2% milk. Also, did the kitchen even bother to go through the spinach leaves? It was all stems! Blah! My GF went with the special fish which was Halibut wrapped in prosciutto. This was just a bad concept. A quality fish like that should have a sauce. You should not wrap fish in meat.
Bottom line is that there are a ton of really fine steak places in the area and this is one that should be missed.
Well, my GF just read my review and she said I should mention the pool tables. Yes, they have a pool room, and we had fun playing pool afterwards... -

Great lamb tenderloin comes from happy lamb and happy lamb range free and consume grass.... like the Colorado Domestic Lamb Porterhouse: 3 soft slices of perfectly cooked deliciousness.
Crabcakes were pretty good, I like the lump crab but they still tasted starchy. Lobster bisque - fantastic - I liked the addition of a vegetable brunoise.
Favorite new drink: Sangria-tini....other restaurants and bars and clubs need to start making this!!
I'm normally not much of a bread eater before dinner, unless it's really exciting like a house-made foccacia or whole-grain, but this one was so hard to put down!! Tastes like it's fresh out of the oven with a nice buttery crust (and the butter that's served is sweet!). -

We were celebrating New Year with a group of friends at this location. Over all good food, nice service. Unfortunately not all the deserts listed in the menu were available.
Good parking, nice atmosphere. Music by the piano was too loud , but you can't hear further away where we were seated.....Overall good experience -
Review from Vlad A.
Ate here twice: once with another couple and this past time with the kids.
Starter:
Had the large Caesar salad, which is labeled as 4-6, but really a stretch for 4. The fried calamari is served with both a marinara and cocktail sauces, great option when sharing with others. Not the best, but not the worst, although for a "high class" joint, I expected better. Verdict: 3 stars
Main:
Wife had the fillet which was good. I had the Pete's Ribeye which was cooked perfectly. My daughter had the chicken parm, which came with flavorless linguine pasta. The dish could easily serve a family of 4 alone, I think its actually larger than the portion they serve down the street @ Buca. The tradeoff is they beat the shit out of that cutlet to a point that it is as thin as a veal cutlet. This results in the chicken getting a bit overcooked and lacks the nice juicy flavor of a well prepared entree (Barnelli's does a better job with their parm for under $10). Verdict: 3 stars ( 4 for steaks and 2 for everything else)
Sides: Nothing special here, except for the 3 cheese potato pancake, being less pancake and more brick; both in shape and flavor. My wife took one bite and didn't want any more; actually none of us did.
Service: Waiters both times were pretty decent, except the first time im, the waiter did not offered the "steak presentation". Refills on pop and water were relatively on time, even though our second time in, the waiter seemed to be somewhat overwhelmed by the volume of tables he was covering. 4 stars.
Overall: Last time in, they asked at the front if we were celebrating anything. My wife said "yes, our anniversary". One would assume that a manager or someone would acknowledge that during our visit, but no one did. So I guess I am perplexed as to why they even bother to ask. On Sat nights this place gets very crowded, especially at the bar, which hosts a small jazz group tucked in the corner.
If you are in the mood for steak in the area, I still think that Wildfire is the top choice, but this place would make a passable #2 if you do not feel like making the trek downtown. -

I've been here a couple of times but I don't remember what I ordered. I guess it wasn't good enough to be memorable until I tried the kobe bone-in steak here. It was phenomenal. The meat was insanely tender and flavorful. I recently turned into a steak snob and decided that I could only eat bone-in filets which I thought was the most tender and flavorful of any cut of meat. I was wrong. I can't go back to the bone-in filet after this. It's 48 oz. so make sure you're hungry or bring a friend.
The firecracker shrimp and quesadillas were good appetizers, others are decent but nothing worthy.
Skip the desserts - not worth the cost or calories.
The sides are okay and come with your steak. If you take anything home, make sure you ask them to pack your sides otherwise they won't!
Décor and ambience is romantic. Service is very attentive and pleasant. -
Review from Jake M.
I just went here for my b-day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our waiter was very friendly and nice and service was prompt, the restaurant was clean, and the live jazz was a nice touch.
The Maryland crab cakes were delicious and the mustard sauce gave it a nice kick, I also highly recommend the lobster bisque. My burger was great, made with the same prime steaks they usually serve, only ground. The Dover sole was also very good.
Bonus points for bringing back the rewards program. -

1st Disclaimer: I went here for my one-year anniversary with my boyfriend and we had a http://restaurant.com coupon for $50, so it was guaranteed to be a really good time. We also came here for the twilight dinner (appetizer + dessert free with the purchase of an entrée, available as long as you're seated before 6pm).
2nd disclaimer: I really like steak.
3rd disclaimer: We dressed up for the occasion, so that may have upped our service.
That said, I do think that if you also a) come here for the twilight dinner and b) dress up, you'll probably have a pretty good time, too. :)
Pros:
- Service. It was splendid; we got an additional bread basket midway through our first one because our first one hadn't been "hot enough." (This was all completely on them; we were both totally fine with our first bread basket. The second one was really nice and warm, though). They also gave us the steak presentation, which was very informative and enjoyable. They made use of the dim lighting by using a flashlight to really put a spotlight on each steak. Nice. The servers were also really polite and courteous.
- Entrées. I got the Surf n' Turf (parmesan crusted, garlic mashed potatoes) and my boyfriend got the bison (forgot which one :/ he had the fried onions on the side). He got the crème brûlée, which was surprisingly good. (I have high standards for crème brûlées after having them in Paris). I got the tiramisu, which was good, but not spectacular. They cooked our meat perfectly (medium rare) and it was absolutely delicious. I really like the seasoning that they use, though it's quite strong. The crust was pretty good, but it wasn't crunchy as I expected. (Then again, I've never had crust on a steak before). The garlic mashed potatoes were pretty good; funnily enough, they taste exactly like the garlic mashed potatoes that I make. The bison is actually not thaat distinguishable from steak. Oh well. It was still really good, though.
- Décor & Ambiance. It was very, very dim, which meant that picture-taking was difficult. On the other hand, it made it pretty intimate. We got one of the curved booths, so it was perfect for sitting close to each other.
Con:
- Lobster bisque. Unfortunately, it was a bit sour. (Both of ours were). I was okay with it at first, but after a while, it started to get to me.
Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Pete Miller's. It was more food than both of us could handle, but they made for good leftovers. :) -
Review from Don M.
Went here to celebrate with my sister. She had received good news cancer free and wanted to go out. We sat at the bar to chat before dinner and the bartender was on top of his game. When we asked to be seated no problem booth was ready. We ordered appetizers of shrimp, they were huge and good. We also ordered oyster Rockefeller and they were also good. I went for the Filet trio and was happy, cooked perfect and very good. My sister went for the baked french onion soup, large bowl lot of cheese, she ate it all, and chased it down with mahi mahi leaving nothing. Her beau had the prime rib and only saved some because he wanted for morning. No complaints on the food or service. We stopped back in the bar for a nightcap and they had a band playing jazz pretty good. Then some guy by the bar was staring and I asked whats up? He noticed the flowers my sister had and then said its that your mom she seems nice. I looked at him and said No its my sister. He got bright red and walked away. The only downside to the evening was walking out the door to the smokers standing in the covered area and getting blasted with smoke, its your choice. Management you need to move the smoking area away from the main entrance door. Good night, good food, good service and time with family.

Review from Steven M.
I used to live near here and have driven by this place a hundred times, but paid attention to it! I met some friends on a Saturday night and the atmosphere was quite pleasent. The tufted leather under the bar was cool. We had a few drinks first and they hit the spot and they were all very well made. The main dining room was elegent with the curved booths and the walnut paneling. The server was right on the money all night long and he made the experience that much more enjoyable. We did ask him for a suggestion on the wine and he drew a blank. But that was perfectly fine. I would rather have that then someone shooting from the hip and lying to me. He came back after asking someone else and we made our decision from there. We started out with the shrimp cocktail and oysters roc, which are had to find on a menu anymore. The shrimp were quite large and very fresh. (The one's at MJ's new place were more than twice the price and less than half the size?) The oysters were huge and very good. Not a hint of fish smell or taste any where. After a dozen of each I was almost stuffed. So I ordered the chop with the potato cake. Wow! That was one thick and tasty piece of pork. But that potato cake has horrid! I am not sure what that block of tot was suppose to be, but next time I will take a pass. It had an over cooked strip of bacon on top and a plop of sour cream that was dripping off of the dish. The onion soup that my friends had looked awsome and I have never seen it served in such a large bowls. If I was actually hungry I would have jumped over the table and snagged that hunk of meat they called prime rib. Just the smell was enough for me to start eating again. We went back to the bar because they had a jazz band going on. They had the place hopping. What I noticed is that this place was not age specific. The crowd was quite a bit younger that I would have thought of a steak house that has been around for so long. What I found odd was the pool tables in the room off the bar. It had booths around it and there were guys in sweat pants shootin stick? It really didn't fit in with what was going on that night. And the smokers in the tented vestibule were a buzz kill. There is no way for you to avoid them as that is the only way out. I would definitely come back as the food and service was outstanding!

Went here on a recent Saturday night because we had a certificate. Had been there a couple of years ago and they couldn't get the steaks cooked right, so we hadn't been back.
What a great experience. Would return again for a special dinner. We started with a small ceasar salad that was big enough to split. Very fresh w home made dressing. Entrees now include a side, good size portions. I had the Ahi and it was cooked (in this case undercooked) just right and hubby's steak was medium rare as ordered. Quality of the food was top notch. -

Made a visit to Pete Miller's after I browsed the menu and noticed a Buffalo New York steak. Had to give it a shot as Buffalo is my new meat. The cut was about 14oz and prepared with a parmesan crust, medium rare and a wine reduction sauce. Delicious.
Ambiance was nice. It was 9:00pm and the dining area was pretty empty, but the music from the piano bar was a nice addition. Service was prompt and attentive.
ALthough I did not have steak, they do present you with a platter of a variety of cuts which all looked great.
WOuld highly recommend -

What a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT
Service was below average at best!!!
Food was average at best
When I order lobster mashed potatoes, I DONT want lobster bisque soup poured over the mashed potatoes, that is called lazy!
My prime rib was average at best!
Place has gone DOWNHILL fast, I think all they cared about last night was the jazz band playing and making sure the people on the patio kept getting their drinks
Dozens of other steakhouses to go to, WILL NOT be going back or recommending -

Live jazz in the suburbs isn't to easy to come by, so this makes the list. The dining experience here may be different to its Evanston location as I prefer the look and ambiance of that one better, but if you're here to enjoy the music, they offer live jazz at least 5 days a week.

After enjoying many meals at Pete's, I have to write an updated review about our more recent visits.
We're so disappointed in the the changes they've made. I think there's been changes in the quality of the steaks too. My husband loves the Porterhouse and they took that off the menu. The service has become mediocre. Overall, pretty disappointing.
Now to find a new place for our monthly date night outing. :(1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Mahsa T.
Not overwhelmingly good and not overwhelmingly bad either. It's right in the middle.
It's a good option for weekday lunch. Prices are very affordable and you can enjoy their lovely outdoor patio, though it's a bit noisy from passing traffic on Milwaukee Ave and the chairs were UN-COMFORT-ABLE (not what is in the picture here on Yelp, they were not rattan, but metal chairs with no cushions). I guess they don't want people to stay long. And I'm sure I had a lovely criss-cross pattern on the back of my legs when I got up.
On to the food...you can get a plain burger for $7, which is a steal. Or you can order a burger stuffed with cheese (that's right--cheese is not on top of the burger, but stuffed inside the burger) for a buck more. My complaint with my burger is that I asked for it to be well done and it came out medium and it needed some major seasoning. I did enjoy the complimentary "pickled" pickles.
Service was a bit clumsy and disorganized but our waitress meant well and may have been new, so we'll cut her some slack. -

This place is great! I split a surf and turf dinner with a friend and they accomodated it with no questions asked. The meal was excellent. The mashed potatos were great. My friend ordered the mac n cheese and it was also good.
Our server was sweet and kept the drinks a-flowing. Only thing is it is a little more swanky, so it would be a good place to take a date or a client, or a friend for a special occasion. -

Working in burbs and need an inexpensive yet really great meal for lunch. Pete Miller's is the way to go. They bring that dinner goodness to lunch for more than half the price.
Who doesn't love that??!
Did I mention they also stuff their burgers with cheese..yummy! -
Review from Rob W.
OK, this review is a summary of my trips the past few years and reveals why I don't frequent this restaurant as much as I used to in the past.
First off, on the plus side, the staff here is good and fairly knowledgeable.
I typically sit at the bar, which is the first thing you encounter when entering the main restaurant. The last few times I went there, I noticed a slight bar smell - something akin to bad foot odor. Not very pleasant.
The orders come out of the kitchen and are often wrong - usually the temperature is off, sometimes an incorrect item. Seems to be more of a kitchen issue than waitstaff (who should ensure the order is right to the degree that they can before taking it to a table) .I went there with a friend once and she sent a steak back twice and it still wasn't right after that. She gave up.
I used to order a strip steak and they would garnish it with two slightly grilled scallions laid over the top of it. Frankly, it's one of the lamest food presentations I have ever seen. How a chef could let a good steak leave the kitchen with two pieces of limp green onions tossed on it is beyond me. I hope they don't do this anymore.
Finally - the prices. Everything is ala carte, so walking out with a $50-$60 tab is the norm. And that would be fine if everything was perfect, but it rarely is. I'd rather spend that kind of money at another steakhouse, or save a few dollars and go to another nearby restaurant, J Alexander's, and enjoy a better meal there.
I'll probably return sometime in the next few months and hope to update with a better review. It's a decent place and the live jazz and such is great - but the food just doesn't cut it. -
Review from Howard L.
Of our 3 meals here, this dinner was the best of them. Wife had a nice well done pork chop that was still moist and delicious. I had a medium rare bison strip steak with grilled onions and topped with parmesan - it was a little gamey as warned, but I enjoyed the change. The bread was warm and fresh. Service was good, and there was live jazz music towards the end. This place is quite cavernous also, when you add up all the dining rooms. Pete Miller's Wheeling hasn't been the most consistent place for us, but it was a nice visit this time.
Memo to self: Great Lakes Burning River pale ale is a pretty hoppy pale ale. It was over the top but a good one time try for me.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Grayslake, IL
I went to Pete Miller's on Saturday for their twilight dinner special (salad or soup plus dessert included with your entree at no additional charge) with my husband and another couple. We had 5:30 reservations and I was actually surprised to see so many people there so early!
We started with calamari and cocktails. I found the calamari to be slightly overcooked and rubbery (I had one really nice piece and the rest were not as good). I had a dirty martini that while tasty, the blue cheese olives definitely came out of a jar (the cheese inside was dry and crumbly). My brother in law ordered a scotch and water and it was pretty weak. BUT the bread they put out was FANTASTIC.
I had the lobster bisque (with the twilight dinner you get a choice of lobster bisque, soup or the day, dinner salad or caesar) and the "Surf and Turf," which is a ribeye with the crust of your choice and crab-stuffed shrimp served with garlic mashed. I swapped my shrimp with my sister's crab cakes from the "Steak and Cake" entree. The bisque was ok...not as much lobster as I would have hoped but ok. The steak and cake was TINY. Granted, I didn't leave hungry but I was surprised at how small the piece of steak and the crab cakes were. Maybe I'm just used to our super-sized culture. While the steak was cooked nicely I found the horseradish crust to be overwhelming and the same on my husband's blue cheese-crusted strip. The crab cakes were underwhelming (tasted like a really good frozen variety) but I guess I expected more. Garlic mashed...meh, kind of lumpy for my taste and lacking the garlic kick I was looking for.
I got the carrot cake for dessert, even though it wasn't included on the twilight list of desserts, and it wasn't that good...moist but no good carrot flavor and needed salt to some kind of spice...something. The keylime pie my husband got was overly sweet and my coffee tasted like the coffee pot hadn't 'been cleaned in a year...kinda gross.
Overall not a great experience. I might come back and order just a plain old steak, no crust, but I've definitely experienced better.
Side note: Our waitress was fantastic :) -

Yikes! This is why people are so fat in Chicago. The portions are huge. No one should eat a 28oz steak in one sitting, or have their lobster tail stuffed with other crustaceans.
All that aside, the food was great but service was super slow. Enjoyed the rack of lamb, sauteed spinach with bacon and mushrooms, and mac&cheese. Key lime pie was delicious. On a side note, their patio should be on the other side of the restaurant so the building serves as a buffer against the street. As it sits, you hear the traffic of Milwaukee Ave. -

Good food, good wine, good ambience. My husband and I have dined here a few times and have always been satisfied. The steaks are quite good but not quite as exceptional as Gibson's in Rosemont. Their garlic mashed potatoes, though, are to die for! Yum. When it comes to the steak I recommend the filet trio. In addition we would recommend the french dip and blackened chicken sandwich off of their bar menu. Its pricey though and I'm not quite sure the quality of the food fully justifies the prices.

Review from Tricia L.
This review is way overdue, but it shocked me at how my experience at the PM in Wheeling could be so drastically different from the one in Evanston.
Strike 1: the restaurant was cold, temperature-wise. Not conducive to happy customers. Need I say more?
Strike 2: the bread (which I RAVE about to anyone and everyone I know who sputters out the word carbs in any conversation) was overwarmed and borderline hard. Read: unsatisfactory to the point that I almost did not want to take it home in my doggie bag. (The carb monster in me prevailed.)
Strike 3: my burger, which I love ordering at PM because seriously, when can you ever go wrong with a steakhouse burger, was one of the most unimpressive I've had in any restaurant. It tasted like a frozen patty, and I know my burgers. PM should be ashamed!
And if 3 strikes isn't enough...
Strike 4: service was slow and unattentive, despite the restaurant being mostly empty. -

Excellent service and quality food. I love the decor of the restaurant and the jazz music that is live just about every night.
I took some customers of mine from out of town to Pete's last night and they were blown away. Best steak they've ever had.
Lobster bisque soup is a must! We also had the goat cheese appetizer which was excellent. All the steaks are prime cuts, but I recommend adding the parmesan or horseradish crust to top the steak off. Both are really good and bring a totally unique flavor to the steak. Pair that with a nice bottle of Cabernet and a side of garlic mash potatoes and you will leave quite full and quite happy. -

Went to Pete Miller's for birthday lunch #1...
Ahhhhmazing! Loved the chopped salad. It's got a few extras that other chopped salads don't have (carmalized onions and broccoli)... I was a little skeptical, but they did it!! It tastes great.
Terry, our server, was on top of every thing. He was near us every time one of us needed a refill or anything extra at our table. -

This place is okay. My parents love it and come for all their special occasions but I was not overwhelmed with it. The service was great, the food not so much.
We started off with the steak/shrimp quesadilla's and those were excellent. Then we each got a Caesar salad, nope not an adventurous crowd. We also all ended up getting the filet. The filet was huge and it was good, but not outstanding. My mom thought hers was dry so the waiter brought her out a new one and she loved it. I got the garlic mashed potatoes to go with my steak and holy batman they were huge. I didn't like them, but if I would have, I would have had more then enough. I'm not sure what the dessert was that we had, but it was very good.
This place is nice, but not fantastic. I'm sort of a steak snob, I go to a lot of steak places in the city so this was just okay. -

A friend and I came for a special night out, had the Kansas City Steak. Yeah, it's like 42 bucks for the steak, but it melts in your mouth like ice cream, spreading awesome flavor everywhere. Heavenly. The restaurant's decorative scheme is opulent and impressive, they have live music playing, and our waiter more than deserved the good tip we left for him. This certainly is not the place for a general night out, but for a special occasion, you might want to keep it in mind. I've been to Morton's and Wildfire, I think the steak here is considerably better than in those places.

Nice place. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable regarding the menu; as one should be. The lobster bisque served table side was delicious along with their soft bread.
There was some confusion as we wanted to substitute one of their trio filet/crab leg plates with beef wellington (as my husband was craving). Which was worked out.
Both of our plates came out lovely in appearance and taste was above our expectations. We each had the garlic mash which was very good. Both of us left stuffed and unable to try out the desserts. A little pricey but well worth it. -

The bone-in filet au poivre is as good as it gets. Excellent piece of meat cooked perfectly medium (hot pink) and extremely tasty sauce of cracked pepper, mushrooms, and cognac reduction. One of the best steaks I have ever had.
I also wish to plug their Clean Plate Club for frequent diners (Pete Millers, Davis Street Fishmarket, Merle's). Membership costs $20 but you get a gift certificate for $20, plus earn points toward gift cerrtificates every time you dine.
On your birthday you get a free lobster, steak or ribs. Great value. -

I used to love this place but it has gone down dramatically with the new ownership.
Service was horrible. Our water glasses, although empty, were not refilled until they took a plates away. They never came buy to fill our empty bread basket. We had to wait 20 minutes to get our desert. We noticed one angry patron getting the manager to complain about something wrong with service and food.
My beloved ribeye which I used to think was the best was dry and chewy.
I doubt it was prime like it used to be.
I won't be going back until or unless I start seeing good reviews -

2.5. They get a half star for the pure comedy that is parking....see below.
So me and Linda went here for jazz and a martini, not for food. She had been to the one in Evanston and we were a little misled about the entertainment for the evening.
First of all...this is rich - we pull up and there is valet parking in the FECKIN PARKING LOT....I was like wow...OKAY! Welcome to Suburbia..(queue Rihanna's bom bom bi dom bom bom di dom....suburbia!! ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!)
We kind of had an idea of what we were getting into after we saw that.
We go in, find a seat and I swear it takes some twenty-odd minutes before we even get a drink menu....the clientele is an interesting mix...but lots of baseball caps...in a jazz club....er okay, wow!
The music was more blues oriented than Frank Sinatra jazz (which is what we thought we were going for). It was fine, but just a slight disappointment since we were expecting something more Michael Buble-ish....
Oh the suburbs.....there is a reason why I live in the City!!!! -

This place about met my expectations- above average food at too high a price.
I went with my family for some minor celebration, mostly an excuse to get some really great meat! Our waiter was quick, but not very friendly. I don't need a guy to ask me my life story, but a smile would be nice.
I ordered the prime rib, and when it was set in front of me my mouth started to water. It didn't taste quite as good as it looked, but it was still a good meal. The side of mashed potatoes, weirdly enough, almost stole the show.
Our waiter came quickly to clear our plates and presented the check. He mumbled something about dessert, but we opted to pay up anyway.
My parents sat around, finishing some coffee while my brother and I went and shot a couple of games of pool in the pool room. Really great looking space. If I was the type of person that had six bucks to blow on a Miller Lite, and liked Miller Lite, I'd be into that room a little more.
All in all, I had a slightly above average time. The food didn't quite warrant the price, but it was worth the trip. I won't hold one mediocre server against the whole restaurant. I'll give the rest of them the benefit of the doubt. -

Eaten here twice and had the same experience both time.....I question that the beef is aged at all. I have ordered the strip and the porterhouse and thought that any grocery store steak I have grilled tasted and had better texture than the stuff at Pete Millers. I found the steaks to be tough and with lots of gristle, not fat. Also the side of broccoli, what a joke, if I am paying $50 for a meal and my veggie side is a huge branch of broccoli and you dont even peel the outside layer of the stalk off, than you are over-paying everyone in the kitchen and the executive chef should be fired.
Service was adequate but they seemed to rely on their presentation of the steak display for their tip and service declined as the meal went on.
Overall a below average steak in a large, crowded, and noisy restaurant. -

Food and service was decent, I just think it's a little pricey for the quality. It's nothing too special.

Update to my last review. The last couple of times I dined here were very disappointing. The service was still good, but the quality of food has gone down. The steaks were dry, the roasted red potatoes tasted like they were reheated from the night before, and the salmon had no flavor. Just not worth a return visit.

Ok. I love a decent steak. I know I should cut back on red meat, but I only eat it when I go out. However, I'd rather go to Steak and Shake than eat a steak here.
Let me just say, it was New Years Eve...but they lost our reservation, so we ended up sitting at a hightop in the bar area. Now, there is a chance we made the reservation for the wrong day, but knowing how anal retentive my brother is...I doubt it. I hope our server, Jessica, was just having an off night. she seemed flustered, knocked things around a bit, and broke the cork off in our wine bottle. We tried to put her at ease, but I think the busy day had just worn her down.
We ordered lobster bisque to start....it wasn't a rich as I've had elsewhere, and needed a bit of salt and pepper. I am not sure they finish it within off with sherry. To of us ordered the Kobe rib chop...one medium rare and one medium. My brother's was well done at the ends but cooked well near the bone. I did something I have never done...I sent my steak back! It was well done instead of medium, even at the bone. I don't do gray steaks. By the time the replacement came out, I was over it. I tried to season it up the next day, but ended up throwing it out. I think the steak lacked basic salt and pepper.
I give Pete high marks for ambiance, but failing marks on food and service. I'll stick with Sullivan's when in Chicagoland.
