    Lakeshore Petco is a yes!

So it's been a while since I came to this location, but Petco Lakeshore is the only location that has everything I need when I'm getting things for my fishy.  From the fish food, to the aquarium filters and the random fresh water plants, this is the spot.

I do want to glorify the staff here also, they are pretty awesome.  Friendly, helpful and knowledgable.  I definitely can say, this store is a gem.

    THANKS PETCO LAKESHORE!!!

I shop at a variety of pet stores, this Petco being one of them. I recently purchased two different shampoos for my dog who developed dry skin and itching from a possible food allergy. I tried the shampoos a few times and seeing that it actually made my dog's skin worse, I went to return the products. Unfortunately, I could not find the receipt for the products but being it's a pet store, the general rule is that they will offer store credit for items that did not help the pet. After all, I am spending about $20 per bottle. NOT PETCO! Petco refused to even offer me store credit for the shampoos. I was stunned. I explained to them that it actually made my dog's skin worse and they said because it's been used halfway, they will not take it back! As if this was not horrible customer service, the woman helping me kept addressing me as "Hey lady" when I was standing nearby, and when passing my name along to her manager, she said, "Corinna Something" instead of politely asking me how it's pronounced, all while I was standing in front of her. And one last general rule of thumb - DON'T EVER ACCUSE YOUR CUSTOMER OF DOING SOMETHING WRONG WHEN YOU YOURSELF ARE NOT AN EXPERT. I say this because I bathe my dog once every 2 weeks and this is perfectly fine for my dog. Additionally, I had asked my vet before if this practice was okay and she assured me it was fine. When I explained how often I was washing my dog and the ineffectiveness of the shampoos, the associate responded rudely, telling me that was my entire problem and that I only need to wash my dog once every month & a half! Needless to say, I did not feel that I needed to stand there and argue with her about my vet's recommendations on bathing. That is the LAST time I shop here and I suggest if you have problem pets, you avoid this store as well.

I will continue to visit Pet Food Express because they are always friendly and their return policy is excellent! No matter what it is you buy in their store, if it is used, emptied, or breaks, you can return it, with OR without the receipt, so long as the store carries the product!!!! That is what I call 100% support for pet owners & their pets. After all, if my dog could talk and tell me what would make her feel better or worse, I would not have to go through a number f products before finding one that works. And in situations like this, I refuse to lose money and be punished because of a store's ridiculous return policy. And if you don't have a Pet Food Express close by, try Petsmart! Even their return policy is more lenient on these types of situations.

I will be contacting customer support for Petco.

My parents recently adopted a 14-month old Bichon and signed him up for some puppy school at Petco.  They checked out a few different schooling options for Billy Joel (the dog), and Petco not only had the best prices but the best schedule.

On the first day of class, my mom was a little frustrated because during the class the other dogs would all bark at each other and little Billy Joel the honor roll student got no attention.  Jamie, the trainer, happily gave Billy Joel some one-on-one instruction after class.

Five weeks later, Billy Joel has graduated from puppy school at the top of his class (his teacher called him "the peacemaker" because he never barked at the other dogs and told them to get their act together), and is now taking a gap year before puppy college.

Billy Joel is now not only adorable, but partially trained!  He'll be hitting up Petco in 2 weeks for a photo shoot with Portraits Unleashed in a few weeks as well!

We have been coming to this Petco for a long time, and over the last few years they have made some great changes to the place. They moved stuff around, did some upgrades, cleaned up a bit... made it more enjoyable to go to.

I love that Petco has such a huge variety of products for my little doggy! They have toys, treats, CLOTHES (we love the clothes), and an assortment of foods and dietary supplements. My dog used to eat Royal Canin.. available at Petco.. but her vet recently recommended something more natural and holistic. We opted for Natural Choice Grain Free dog food for small breeds and she LOVES it. We also got some Salmon Oil supplement for extra healthiness :)

This Petco also has great employees! They are always so nice, helpful, and knowledgable. Everytime I call in or go in to ask a question, I'm pleasantly surprised to get the answer !

The main reason we come to this Petco though is because of the grooming department! Long ago, when my little dog was a baby... we took her here for her first grooming. I have a little pomeranian... and brought her fuzzy fuzzness in for a cut. When I picked her up.... WOW oh WOW! They opted for a teddy bear/fox cut and it was perfect for her! We have been coming here every six weeks ever since. We love the grooming department!! And I think they love her too!! :)

Thanks Petco on Sloat!! Pawshi loves you!

They are very overpriced.  Perhaps the best thing is the convenience, but one pays a dear price for this.  For the same item one can find it cheaper at Petsmart.  Also I find Petco lacks in product choices.

This is Petco not some super high end pet store. The grooming prices are on the lower end and the staff friendliness/ helpfulness is what you would expect at a place like this.

They always have the dog food I want in stock.

They have a good selection of dog toys and they are open late.

5 stars because for what you are paying for you are getting.

Go to pet food express on market or ca street if you want a more "quality" experience, but you will be paying more!

This review is for their stock of dog/puppy products only. I have not tried their grooming services or their classes. In terms of their stock, it is pretty decent and better than the one near my school. They have dog food in stock and have manager specials, which I have not seen at other Petco. And the discounts are substantial.

Normally, I just come here for the Sunday 2-3:30pm Luv My Pet Vaccination Clinic. The vet that gives the shot answers any questions you might have. He is so patient.

What I recommend: Be on the look out for manger's special discounts.

my previous review was horrible about this petco however after coming back with some friends, i had to bump it up to 5 stars!

this review is for this employee name jamie. she is top notch. my friends and i came here to look for something to take away bad breath for our dogs. jamie, asked if i needed any help, and of course i said yes. so she then proceed to show me products and even she put in her experience with her and her dogs having horrible breath. i felt that she knows her stuff and shes great to talk to. she definitely gave me the definition of a customer service.

    thank you jamie.

We spent about an hour here with my third-grader nephew, Christmas-shopping for his pets. The staff were more than helpful. One walked around with us, explaining the different critter keeper products, until my nephew found the perfect plastic home (with air vents) for the bugs he collects.  Another escorted us to the cat toys, as well as the special holiday cat toy display.

The prices were higher than expected. Dog treats shaped like vegetables went for $20 (at PetCo's online store it's $15).  We bought a $15 "Magneticat" toy that uses magnets to make a ladybug keep twitching -- later we found it on Amazon for $6.

Final Petco destination on Le Tour de Petco.

This was the last Petco destination. Bro finally decided on 2 Betta fish that he wanted, one red female & one red male so they could breed, don't think that's working out so well. Also ended up getting I think 15 gold feeder fish because my dad wanted some.

Saw some Bonito Fish Flakes, which is also topped on Okonomiyaki & Takoyaki...I was so amazed because I had this earlier that day for lunch. I wonder if I was fed cat food now http://www.yelp.com/us...

What a long Petco afternoon, good thing we're almost home.

They're always nice to me. They have puppy training classes. We like their groomers. They have my dog's favorite treats. they sell good dog food. When my cat died, they took back the canned food (without the receipt).  They don't quarantine fish and the infected Plecostamus we bought killed our whole tank. That was really bad.

I have never been a pet owner, so I was a little scared to come in and get a toy for my friend's bunny.  Gordon, a nice young gentleman, helped me pick out a toy and was very welcoming.  The store is really clean and well organized.  Another time, I came with a friend who has a small dog and we took photos of them together.  The store staff and the photo staff were super helpful and the photos came out amazing.  I would definitely recommend this store to anyone with pets.  They do grooming and there's parking!

This is a perfectly average pet store. They have the standard items -- halfway decent pet foods, toys, litter, leashes - the usual. Services such as grooming are offered, and you can buy the pills that get rid of worms in cats here. So yeah, it's OK for what it is.

The problem is that it is expensive. Very expensive. And not only is it expensive when compared to other pet shops in the area, it is expensive when compared to Petco's own website! I took a look at training collars, for example - $60 in store versus $35 online. That kind of sucks.

The staff are friendly, but less personable than some local shops. It's fine for what it is, but I don't go out of my way to shop there, and the prices are high.

Not recommended for vaccinations! We just went to have my pets vaccinations petco a combo of six and the women didn't warn us that the lepto vaccination could have a very adverse reaction in our dog. 30 minutes later in the emergency room since our dog was having an anaphylactic reaction to lepto vaccine. They don't even tell you that the lepto is not effective towards the lepto that is common to San Francisco. The vet said they have to give a particular one that affects this area. So if your thinking of saving a bit of money DON'T.

    Not for fish!

If they are having a sale on tanks or supplies sure - buy away but they do not know fish!  Gone are the days of setting up a tank for 48 hours and then plunking the fish in... San Francisco has bad tap water for fish and it needs treating before you bring home your new friends.  Every time we went in the employee had some excuse why we shouldn't buy a particular fish "I've just cleaned their cage, they are stressed and won't make it to your house alive."  They made it just fine and thanks to the instructions by Justin at Ocean Aquarium, they are thriving. I'm sure Petco sells more fish simply because they don't tell anyone about the Ammonia problem in SF tap water... they let people think the fish have a shorter life span than they actually do... if you want to have fish that don't have internal bleeding in their gills, DON'T buy them from Petco.

In third grade I took the class guinea pig home for the summer.

In early August, I walked up to its cage and saw it slumped over in the sawdust.  I assumed it was hibernating, because I've always been a freaking genius.

But it was dead and when I returned to school in the Fall, everyone knew me as "the guinea pig killer."

Thanks to Petco for helping young children find their own pets to kill, so classroom pets can live a little longer.

    My cats are white trash.

Well, technically, they are Siamese trash and Tabby trash, but trash nonetheless.

I have tried to give them high-end cat food, with less filler, organic meat, low levels of magnesium, whatever.  Last week we were at a specialty pet store where they sold cat food with the names "Thanksgiving Dinner" and "Sashimi Delight" for a lot of $$.  The labels had appealing graphics and impressive ingredients.  It looked pretty damn good, if you ask me, and I can truthfully say I might not say no if it were served with some water crackers at a cocktail party.  Did my cats like it?  No way.  They sniffed it and walked away with their asses high in the air.  I think they were one step away from showing me their pimp hands and telling me to get in the kitchen and make them a chicken pot pie.

My cats like the junk, like 9 Lives, Friskies and Whiskas.  The cheaper, the better.  If they were on welfare, these cats would spend their checks buying Wonderbread, catnip, and canned meat.   It's what they like.  What do you expect from a bastard from North Carolina and a San Francisco street urchin anyway?

So it's Petco for my animal supplies.  I compromise by giving them Nutro Max dry food, and then all the bad-for-them canned food with names like Mariner's Catch and Seafood Supper.  They always gobble it up with delight and then go lay in the sun with their fat bellies exposed for the rest of the day.  Freeloaders.

This particular Petco is large and is well stocked for fur animals.  The staff is very nice, even the young ones, which is more and more a rarity these days.  They offer grooming every day, and vaccinations on certain days, and the customers often bring their dogs, which is fun to see.

I like to take the dog to Stern Grove park or Fort Funston and hit Petco on the way back which is very convenient.  If you park on Sloat you don't have to deal with the shopping center parking lot, but if you park in the parking lot then it's just a few doors down to Arby's for a quick bite.  So you can get your fix of fillers and nitrates, too!

Gourmet cat food?  If you ask my cats, that stuff is for pussies.

It was my Pug's birthday yesterday so I came here to buy him a present. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, I know. Dog's don't care about birthdays. To them, its just another day. But I always buy both of my dogs birthday presents anyway.  So don't hate. =P

I was on a mission to find treats. As I walked around....Sweetl! theres goes the treat bar! $4.49 lb?! Shoot, those frickin dogs better eat EACH and EVERY treat I buy for them! That's some expensive stuff right there!  I got them some chocolate chip cookies, pretzels, sandwich cookies and some other treats. You'd be surprised at how delicious they look! They don't even look like dog treats! But they would definitely make a good gag gift! Remember to stay away from me during April fools day. =P

I wanted to get a new dog bed but they were so expensive. So I went to Ross instead. Hahah. Oh and the workers here were very nice.

    Grooming services only!

I always take Henry to Petco to get his nails clipped, anal glands relieved, and more recently, ears cleaned.  I'm pretty satisfied with the grooming; the quality of the service and the price they charge is reasonable (anal glands - $10, nails - $8).  The groomers there are really nice and seem to know what they're doing. My only negative comment (which I docked two stars off) is that there is a groomer there (new, I presume?) that clipped Henry's nails too short; when we took him home, he was bleeding and left blood trails wherever he went.  We called Petco and wanted to speak with the tall Caucasian girl about this, but she DENIED clipping too much of his nails, and that HE WAS MOVING TOO MUCH SO IT WAS HIS FAULT?! Very dishonest. I went in the next day and talked to one of the other groomers about the incident, and she apologized profusely and told me that the Caucasian girl would be warned (haha).

If you see a tall, Caucasian female in the grooming room, don't request her to groom your pet...

It might get a lil' bloody.

Kanye West once said that George Bush didn't care about black people.

Well, Petco doesn't care about animals.

The poor little hamsters/guinea pigs/lizards/birds just sit in their pathetic boxes all day while snot-ridden children come and bang on their habitats. So, you know what I do? I buy them. I buy a lot of them. If I could, I'd buy all of them. Sure, I guess I'm supporting the evil-doers, but these little balls of fluff are too hard to pass by.

So far, I'm not having great luck, either. Two hamsters down, one guinea pig still kickin'. One of the hamsters died on Christmas. What kind of sick, satanic joke is that, Petco?

Better than average! The store is bright, colorful, fun and well employed. Though I did have a mission in here to buy, I perused the aisles as I always have to in any pet store. I love animals, what can I say?

While perusing, I noticed in the back of the aisles, a puppy class taking place. Mental note taken. Every puppy needs loving guidance to wonderful doggyhood.

Today's mission was to find a kit to begin the process for training my cat to use a toilet instead of a litter box. My cat is a very adaptable and amiable cat, and now that I don't have a roommate, I am willing to take the several week process to get her to be a loo-kitty. Anyone who has cats or has been around a cat-owner, will tell you that though cats are wonderful pets, they have the draw-back of requiring a litter box. They're self-cleaning creatures, but their shit-can ain't. I say, "No more!"

PetCo did not have the training kit, but I was able to pick up flushable litter, necessary for the process. The guy I spoke with was very knowledgeable of pets, what the store had and didn't have, and had suggestions on helping me finish my mission.

Oh yeah, and today, all Elvira's treats were on sale: the All Natural Whiskas Temptations. I snagged 2 of every flavor to stock up!

Why is it that every pet store I've ever been in smells like bad dog breath or dog poo or both? This one is not the exception.

I like the layout of this store. They've got the categories of each isle laid out accurately and it makes it easy to find things.

I came in to buy something for my girlfriend's dog for the dog's birthday and I found some great deals. I bought toys, a dress thing with bells on it and some treats bulk (I'm not even sure she'll like but whatever...).

The workers are helpful and friendly. I normally don't like it when cashiers ask for donations for a cause you're not sure about, because you never know where the money actually goes. But when they asked me to buy a can of dog food for the SPCA, I said yes, because I can see that they scan the can of food and put it in a bin with all the other donated foods. Makes way more sense then donating money that can end up in some greedy fundraiser's pocket.

I won't come back because I myself don't own a pet, but if I did, I would come here.

I remember going to this place fifteen minutes prior to closing, and the skinny hawk nosed clerk shut the door right as we walked up to it. We knocked and told her that it's only eight forty five, and Hawk Nose says haughtily that, "Well, our clock says nine." Bitch.

Please don't forget to let your dog piss on their floor. Another tip: their clerks are so out of it, that they never noticed that my friend used to let her dog sample (lots of it) the pepperoni sticks at the cash wrap.

I'd give it zero stars if I could.

I went through three rats from this petco and they all died of the same respiratory problem.

The first one my bf and I bought lasted only two days with us. Momo-chan (that's what we named him) was so weak and had laboured breathing. :( We were going to take him to the vet but he died on the way. :'(

Before he died, we got him a companion (Nene-chan) because we thought he was just lonely. Well, we told the manager in Petco about it and he gave us another rat as a replacement for Momo-chan. So Nene-chan got Gohan (that's what we called him) to play with. Both of them were doing fine for a while. Until Nene-chan became weak and slow, just like Momo-chan. Nene-chan only lasted 6 or 7 days with us. :'(

After that, Gohan got so depressed. He wouldn't eat properly, and didn't want to play that much. He would always stand by the door on the cage and wait, as if he was expecting Nene-chan to come back. :'(

A couple of days later, he became weak also and was breathing really heavily, just like Nene-chan and Momo-chan. :'( My bf and I knew that he was going to die soon. But we didn't know that it was going to be this morning. :(

I woke up, turned around, and saw Gohan standing on his hind legs, convulsing. Then he fell over, shook once, and then didn't move anymore.

Fuck Petco for selling sick rats. :'(

Also, fuck petco for not having a lot of essential stuff like aspen bedding. And having small tanks for their animals. And not cleaning their store. And not keeping their animals happy. They all looked so miserable compared to other animals in other stores like PetSmart. And for not having anyone help me look for stuff I needed (imagine, I only saw 2 people working in there on a Saturday afternoon!). And for having stupid people working there giving bad advice on how to take care of my pets.

    - 1 because they use very dangerous wheels for dwarf hamsters that could cause them to die :(

I used to come here to buy a lot of supplies for my turtles and dog...but I stopped once I decided to try their grooming service.

Back when my baby was still a little puppy, he was in dire need of his first haircut.  I called Petco and made the appointment and told them how short I wanted his hair, etc.  The day of his appointment, I felt horrible for leaving him.  They lock him up inside a shitty little cage until they're ready for him.

when I came back to pick him up, he had the WORST haircut ever.  He was butchered :(  Poor guy was so cold, too.  His shitty uneven haircut eventually grew out.  Don't ever bring your dog here if you love him.

Ok this Petco did not have any dead fish when I went there but they also did not have many fish supplies which I really needed. I mean come on - sinking pellets? Not that hard people! I needed a kh / ph and they did not even have that! Just unreal.

They did seem to have a decent selection of tanks and stands which if I had $160-$200 I may have got. But sadly Petco only gets 2 stars...blah!

The grooming salon staff were did a good job on my puppie's full groom.  It was a busy day for them, but the groomer didn't even rush through when it's almost closing.   By using the Petco card, it's buy 7 grooms and get the 8th one free!  Full groom with hair cut for $61, not bad.

Minus one star for slightly overpriced merchandise in-store.  http://Petco.com has better deals.  Both has great selection of quality treats that aren't found in Petsmart.

I went into Petco with a $100 gift card, looking to get some fish and everything that goes with them.  After standing next to the fish tanks for about 20 minutes looking at different fish, I had not seen one Petco employee pass by me.  I walked around the store a bit and finally found someone who called another employee to the fish department.  A total of three employees were working in that store, but luckily the one helping me really knew what he was talking about when it came to fish.

I bought my fish that day, and every time I have been inside of Petco since then to refill on my fish supplies, I always have trouble finding someone to answer my questions for me.  If this Petco just hired a few more people, I think it would really benefit them.  Other then the lack of employees, I had a pretty good experience there.

I've been meaning to write this review for a while.  I'm taking my dog there to be groomed tomorrow, so I remembered.  We have tried numerous grooming places over the years and were disappointed.  Our dog always came back traumatized.  We've lucked out and found Mo, who handles our dog well.  You can tell she's confident around animals and the dogs feel at ease.  She does a wonderful job on our dog and goes above and beyond.  She's the only one who can pluck his ear hairs.  I keep going back because of Mo.  Our dog needed grooming three weeks ago, but Mo was on vacation.  We waited.  She always makes him look fantatstic and it is a delight to see his haircut each time!  If you need your dog groomed I highly recommend Mo.

Decent PetCo.  Friendly staff. Chris was our check out guy and he knew that a Bully stick was made out of a bulls penis, very good...that he knew that is.

Joshua liked walking around but there were so many dogs that he wanted to meet it didn't matter that there were toys and treats galore.  We got him an EIGHT DOLLAR bully stick...suprise, that shit's expensive!  It was pretty big, but still...

they also had some really cute russian tortoises that we wanted so bad.

I bring my two dogs, Billy and Rolo there for grooming. Mo is an amazing groomer. He has so much patience because my dogs aren't the best at sitting still, but they always come out of there looking clean, fresh, and they smell good. Their haircuts are always prefect. I don't trust anyone else with my dogs. Mo is the man to go to.

So we take our cat in to get her nails clipped. (we'd rather her hate them than us).  It was $10, not bad and it was quick. Then we try to walk her around the store....guess cats don't like being walked on a leash.  So we just got her a few treats and then left.

A few days later our poor little kitty is scratching like crazy. She is covered in fleas!  That was her first time out of the apartment and she get fleas.  We have given her baths, flea meds and more baths and still can't get rid of those damn fleas.

Other than getting fleas this is a good store.  They have the food she loves and lots of neat toys for her.

I've purchased several small parrots from here.

The people here know almost nothing about parrot care. Every time I walk in here I feel like I am telling them things about how to treat their birds.

Fortunately, a majority of the birds here are babies and are easily trained.

It breaks my heart to see the small parrots they keep in captivity. I feel like they never get the attention they deserve.

The last time I bought a bird there I felt like I was piratically teaching the employee how to handle a baby for the first time.

Bird's shouldn't be sold in an environment they can't be coped with. The staff gives insufficient knowledge to first-time buyers on how to care for their new addition to their family.

I'm beginning to cease frequenting this establishment since their prices have raised and I can find better deals at a local pet store, Animal Connection on Judah, where the employees there actually care about their animals and are knowledgeable regarding their birds.
