Gotta love the homeless man in front of me at checkout, with a 20 lb bag of doggy food over his shoulder. You know his $ is going to a good cause, LOL..
My dogs love the self serve snack/treat buffet. After many visits, I know exactly what they like. OH, and you gotta love the dogtag machine. You can choose the tag you want and program whatever you want engraved. It's done right in front of you. Very cheap, very inventive, and very cool..
I like this place, but then again, I like anything about dogs :)
Not the largest petco out there, but it's quite convenient for me now. They've got the basic small animal stuff (dog, cat, bird, lizard, etc.) but nothing too extravagant, or any of the hard-to-find items.
Unfortunately for me, this locale has a pretty poor selection of aquarium livestock. If you're in for feeder fish or some generic gold fish, then you won't have a problem. But if you want a decent selection of freshwater, head over to the culvercity petsmart, or hitup a local fish store (see my list). And forget about saltwater, they don't cary any marine life.
Not the largest Petco I've been to, but hey we are in the city, and I guess that's what happens. I come here at least once a week to get my pet lizzrd his crickets. My dog's favorite dog food here, Pinnacle. No allergies for her. It's made sensitive stomachs. I also get my dog her treats (they have a box of 100 greenies for $30) and toys. I also bought my beta here, and he is one healthy fella. He did cost me about $16 though. I don't like the groomer in there. It just wasn't the best haircut my dog's had. It was a little pricey for me too.
They did a great job on my pomeranian's lion's cut so I had to give them five stars. Plus, they're about 20 bucks cheaper than the other groomers in the area.
This is usually my Petco of choice next to the one in Westminster and it's purely based on locale alone...it's near my pad while the latter is near my work.
I agree with Lisa...it appears smaller than normal but I think it's more of a mirage seeing as the one on La Brea is all cramped...this one's spread out....
I always find the food I'm looking for, the staff has been relatively helpful and almost always friendly, etc. They don't seem to have the cat adoptions that other branches have but perhaps I'm just not there on the right days...
Anyway, if you're looking for Spot or FiFi's favorite goodies...chances are you'll find them here. Parking is VERY easy...turning left onto Robertson can be a pain but not enough of one to deter a visit.
Not the cleanest, widest selection-having Petco out there. And it's absolutely murder turning left on Robertson to get home. But Petcos for some reason are the only place that carry my mini schnauzer's favorite treats -- Ripples!
These are green, rippled, rectangles of minted joy. Coco loves them. They freshen breath and assist with digestion and are good training treats as well. Unlike the problems associated with greenies, where they've been known to cause deaths, Ripples breakdown easy enough that Coco never has any digestion problems, though they do turn her dookie green.
The $10.99 package we get is labeled S for small. Not sure if it means it's intended for small breeds or if it's a small size pack, but these are my greenie-inspired treats of choice.
Final score: neighborhood Petco: 3 stars Ripples: 5 stars Coco: 10 stars
I used to come here a lot for work and I really liked the staff. The store itself is pretty dirty and they sell animals.. yuck. But the staff was always super nice and helpful when I was socializing dogs that weren't the most friendly to strangers.... I think I got Ecco's speaking "I love you" toy here at a massive discount the day after Valentines day. It still works and makes me smile when he gets it to talk!
The store manager insulted my cat. Instead of saying something nice like what is your cat's name or look how he loves being on a leash, or what is his favorite treat she insults me and my cat. She walks up to me while in line and insults my cat, then doesn't say sorry and walks away. I told her I took her comment personally and it wasn't kind. She said nothing like sorry, or have a treat, or your cat is beautiful and amazing. If you know anything about retail or about pet owners you don't insult customers or their pets. They have lost my business, the manager is rude and you shouldn't go to this store of overpriced pet merchandise. Rude! Don't go.
Went here today. This store seems smaller then most of them. I was looking for a guinea pig, but they didnt have any.
