Clay is just as good as it gets. I call him the cat-whisperer because he engaged my very shy, feral guy in no time at all -- this is a feral cat who hides for the entire duration of a visit from anyone else! I have two cats and both of them absolutely enjoy and savor the time with him -- he is like the most favorite uncle or the best-ever Mrs. Doubtfire! Having just returned from my longest time away from my kitties, it was great peace of mind knowing he was with them each day, feeding them, playing with them, making observations, and reporting back to me. When I returned home, it was clear they had received lots of affection and play time. But then I knew that while I was on the trip! Clay offers updates by text or email that really ease missing the cats and put my mind at ease if there are any issues about which I would otherwise worry.
I was particularly concerned during this trip because I had a third cat that just weeks before this trip had passed away. The other two cats had been, frankly, confused and seemed possibly depressed. (I want to note that before that kitty passed away, Clay provided wonderful, tender service to my little elderly Elvis cat and was the only pet sitter with whom I felt at ease leaving Elvis to his excellent care).
I think the recent time with Clay was incredibly good for the two cats, giving them the reassurance of his familiar presence, a wonderful distraction and focus away from the loss of Elvis, lots of affection and attention, and playing some new games. I think the cats and I will miss Elvis for a long time, but Clay's infusion of energy and care really helped us through the hardest part.
In sum, Clay is the best. I've had pets for 20 years and have used various pet sitter services here and in New England. I feel so very happy and lucky to have found Pet Sitter San Francisco -- my cats count Clay as one of their all time favorite people. As do I. -

Clay is awesome. My husband and I were so happy to find him when we moved to San Francisco!
Our dog has stayed with him several times now and loves him. He even got her a new bed when she chewed a hole in the one we sent with her. She always remembers him and is happy to see him when we take her there.
Clay has also visited our cat several times also when we've been gone and we always return to a happy cat and a clean litter box area.
He's also incredibly reasonable for San Francisco, and is very flexible with dates and pickup times. I highly recommend him. -

Clay is the best. EVER! I've had cats my whole life and he is by far the most reliable, friendly and caring catsitter I've ever used.
I love getting his e-mail updates about how Mitzy Cat is doing while I'm on the road. He also is incredibly flexible and able to accommodate last-minute requests. When my wife and my vacation stretched on for an extra week+, I knew that it would be ok because a simple e-mail to Clay would ensure that Mitzy was a full and happy kitty while we were gone.
He even introduced her to the wonders of a laser pointer, which has given us countless hours of entertainment since :)

Clay has looked after our cats twice now. Both times he was very accommodating at very short notice. Our cats are very young and need some daily play. Clay actually bought us a laser pointer which we, and the cats, much appreciated. While we were away, he sent us emails and pictures of the happy cats. This was great to see and put our minds at rest. Clay also brought up the mail and watered the plants.
Excellent and professional service, excellent rates, highly recommend. -

I know it's a bit overdue...
Brought our dogs to Clay a few years back. Spent time with Clay prior to bringing our dogs for a week long boarding session were super excited to find such a reliable and dog loving sitter! Came back home to dogs that stunk like cigarette smoke for days... eeesh. Clay has been the best cat sitter we've ever had for our grey tabby, who is a sweet, but shy girl. Both times I've had Clay watch her for a week or so and unlike with other sitters, Tiger was not sulky upon our return. In fact, she seemed her happy normal self. We could tell Clay really took the time to give her the individual attention she needed. He always takes the time to send us a picture of her, also.

Clay is wonderful with animals. You can tell he cares greatly for all pets. When he met my cats, my (admittedly precocious) dynamic duo took an instant shine to him, which made me feel good about leaving them in his care.
While we all like to say we'd spend anything to keep our pets happy and safe - let's get real. Another great thing about Clay is that he won't price gouge you! His rates for cat sitting are a very reasonable $20 per visit, without an extra charge for a second cat.
One added bonus is that every time he has sit for my cats, I have come home to an apartment that is cleaner than when I left it. It's such a huge relief, after what is usually a very long flight, to come home and find the trash taken out, the floor by the food bowls clean, and sometimes even that one dish I left in the sink sitting clean in the drying rack - and it shows how much he cares. -

We moved to San Francisco about 10 months ago with our 8 year old Maltese. We both travel frequently for work, so finding a trustworthy petsitter was extremely important (and urgent!). We are so happy that we found Clay and have left our lil guy with him several times now, about a week each time. Our dog is on the tiny side (3.5 lbs.), which makes him a little more fragile/sensitive than the average dog. We have no hesitations or worries whatsoever leaving him in Clay's care.
Other great things about Clay are that he's pretty flexible about pickup times, and is very responsive by email. He sends updates periodically about how the pup is doing, who he's playing with, etc.
I highly recommend Clay!! -

flexible, easy-going, and affordable!
Would have preferred a few more email updates during the week he was watching my pup, but all other experiences I had with him were great. He was really accommodating in terms of pick up times and easy going about payment (I paid upon pick up at the end of the week). Not sure what my pup thought, but he seemed to be experienced and good with dogs. He was also accommodating with drop-off and pick up.

Clay is truly a God send!
One of my good friends has been using Clay for over 8 years or so and gave me his name when we moved here - it was like being let into a San Francisco Secret! He has always been exceptionally responsive and so caring!
We have a very anxious cat that vomits the more anxious she gets. So as you can imagine that makes us more anxious about traveling and what kind of shape our cat, apartment and carpets are going to be in when we return.
Since using Clay's services as pet sitter our cat has actually become more relaxed when we travel, has a healthy appetite while we are gone, hardly vomits, and we always have clean clean carpets when we come home. Clay once even went and bought our kitty some kitty grass for her to munch on while we were gone - what more could you ask for!?!?!
Thank you again and again Clay for all your help with our cat and for making our travel plans so much less stressful since we know we can always count on you! -

I initially gave Clay a good review, but after he cancelled on us by text just 36 hours prior to our two week European vacation, I have to adjust my review. Our cat is 19 and needed daily medication and special food, so this really left us frantically scrambling for someone to care for our kitty.
PROs: Clay seemed to be a good value $ compared to other cat sitters. He also provided us with occasional email updates, more in the beginning.
CONs: He is somewhat emotionally unbalanced. A couple days prior to our trip we forgot to leave him our keys, and when we tried to figure out a time to drop them off, we received a few very unprofessional texts from him that seemed completely out of left field. When I tried to call him to discuss the issue, he wouldn't talk to me. He cancelled on us by text message.
We also didn't get the sense he spent much time with our cat and we did not get any photos or very many updates while she was in his care.

In response to my initial review Clay texted me a very innappropriate text. He wrote that I never asked for dog walking or respect. Citty dental ur out of control (in response to the only other negative review I have written) - I'm not sure why he thought that was relevant to him.
I asked him to be professional and stop harassing me and delete my number from his contacts. He said he did, hopefully I won't be harassed anymore by Clay.
He also responded to my initial review by putting my full name multiple times (I had to flag his review to Yelp - and eventually he took my last name off) and by attacking my living situation and motives for hiring a dog walker when I have roommates. It's none of his business why I decide to hire a dog walker (if he MUST know, I just prefer not put burden on my roommates for MY responsibility).
He also comments that I should have known that Orzo wasn't going to get walking because I didn't ask for it and I was paying for a "visit." However, if you look on his website he lists that a visit includes dog WALKING. I was glad to see he actually admitted that he didn't give me what I paid for and my roommate wasn't lying that he didn't take my dog out but for a very short time.
Why would you hire anyone who can be so unprofessional? He had many good reviews, so my whole experience with Clay surprises me, but the fact remains that if something goes bad, he has the capability of being very innappropriate. I honestly wish that I never met him.1 Previous Review: Show all »

If I could give 10 stars, I would!! Clay is honestly THE BEST pet sitter around!
We had Clay look after our cat on two separate occasions. He was prompt on getting back to me when I initially emailed him and was quick to set up a time to come over and meet with Chloe (my cat) and I. She immediately took a liking to Clay, so I knew from the start he is amazing with animals!
He texted me daily updates when we were on vacation and I trusted our cat was in the best hands possible with Clay. He even got her a laser cat toy to play with and some kitty grass!
I would HIGHLY recommend Clay to anyone looking for a pet sitter!! -

Clay is amazing! I was new to the city and was looking on Yelp to find a dog sitter and set up an appointment with Clay to meet my dog Valley for a week long stay.
After an initial consultation, (where Clay wanted to ensure our dog would be able to play nice with others) Clay not only picked up Valley at our door, but was super flexible when our flights kept changing and very professional.
I have used him several time since, and Valley always sprints to him, so obviously he has a pretty nice vacation as well! -

Clay is awesome.
I have been using Clay for almost a year now. I have 2 small dogs, one of which has sever separation anxiety. When I leave the house the dogs bark and are upset, but when Clay leaves they are calm, relaxed, and happy. What ever he does it's like magic. My dogs are very happy with Clay and it puts me at ease knowing that they are in good hands.
I have used Clay both for dog walking services as well as overnight boarding. Clay has a very nice large apartment and the dogs are free to hang out together and roam around. In the past I've limited my trips away because boarding meant leaving my babies in a cage for days at a time but at Clay's house the dogs are treated the same as if they were home with me. I can finally relax when I go away knowing that the dogs are not all caged up and sad.
Thank you Clay for all your help with my dogs. Leaving pets behind can be stressful but knowing that they are in good hands makes all the difference! -

I found Clay on Craigslist and thought I was lucky to find a good cat sitter. Boy, was I wrong!! I should have checked Yelp first and find similar cat owners' reviews before spending so much time and energy communicating with Clay. After writing email back and forth for 2 weeks to reserve the date and finally meeting him in person and gave all the care details and our house keys to him, he decided to drop us 2 days later. The reason he gave me was because my cat is very shy and need medical attention and he doesn't want any issues dealing with a no-show cat. I had a hard time believing a good pet sitter will say things like that. He also gave me an impression that he thinks our cat is going to be sick while we are away, even thought I kept reassuring him that my cat is fine because she just had her check up and the vet was very happy with the result. The reason I gave him 2 stars instead of 1 is because he offered me $60 towards hiring another pet sitter. I did not take his money, but it was very generous of him to come up with this idea.
I am sure he takes good care of pets if they are very social. His rate is also very reasonable. He's got 10 years of experience and will give you references. However, if you have a shy cat that needs medical attention, save yourself some time and energy. Go find someone else. -

Clay was superb!
Our big kitty, Gulliver, couldn't travel with us for the holidays, nor could he stay home all by his lonesome! As recent transplants to San Francisco, we were nervous about finding a new cat sitter we could trust with the big fella.
Enter Clay! His initial meeting with us was efficient and thorough, and he kept us updated via email while we were gone. We thought we might have to "audition" many pet sitters, but we struck gold on the first try. Clay is our ONLY pet sitter from now on.
He gets an unequivocal recommendation from two very picky pet people! -

We recently had to switch dog walkers. We had been working with Clay for almost a year. I felt he helped raise our baby. I was very sad to hear that he couldn't keep us as a client as he lost some business in our part of town. :( Fortunately, we have decided to utilize Clay for pet sitting. Last week we did this for the first time and were very pleased with the care our pup recieved from Clay. He sent us texts to update us on how he was doing. It was very reassuring.

Clay is pet valium.
The Spousal Unit fell in love with a failed Mexican street dog (don't ask how, it's a long story). So the next thing we knew, we were buying a bed and making food and signing up for training. And calling Clay.
Our new poochie is very sweet, very calm, very eager to please. But it's still obvious that, at some point, a man was not nice to him. He adores The Spousal Unit, but he doesn't automatically adore many other males.
But when Clay showed up at our door (accompanied by a toy), our new pooch basically fell at his feet and stayed that way for the entire visit. It took us two weeks of regular walks and feedings to get our new baby to show us his belly. He showed it to Clay in two seconds flat.

Clay is one of the few people we would completely trust with our dog. Clay walks our dog Bailey every day, and Bailey loves him! He seems so happy whenever we come home from work, and Clay has managed to get him on a regular bathroom schedule (not an easy feat). Clay updates us daily on how the walk went, and Clay really cares about Bailey. He notices when his bathroom schedule is off and makes sure to check in on him. If anyone needs a petsitter or walker, we would recommend Clay 110%!

Clay is wonderful with my little Fluffster. I just hate leaving my kitty all alone when I go away but I feel SO much better having Clay there to care for her.
He is incredibly flexible. It's happened more than once that I have called him last minute asking if he could watch her for the weekend and he's never disappointed.
I once went away for two weeks (for my wedding and honeymoon) and even though I was traveling out of the country and couldn't receive updates from Clay I knew I didn't have to worry.
Whenever I get home, there is always a little food in her dry food bowl and the litter box and area around it are nice and tidy.
But most importantly, when I get home from a long trip I have a happy kitty who I am sure has been well taken care of.
I am just so happy I found Clay! -

Clay has been a life saver for my wife and I. His rates are quite reasonable and he is very easy to deal with and he always goes out of his way to try to help us when we need last minute late night walks (though I'm sure he'd rather know a little in advance).
I had to come home over lunch at one point to let our landlord in and was there when Clay was home and am excited to say that our dog, Buster, was THRILLED to see him. He normally whines when we leave him, but he completely forgot i was there when it came Claytime. We highly recommend his services. -

Clay is wonderful! He is always available for our kitty cat when we need him at short notice. He is thoughtful and pays attention to details. He can provide some unusual service too. Our cat eats frozen food, and Clay will take the frozen food out one day before so that he can give it to our picky cat the next day.
We simply love Clay and highly recommend him. -

Have to say that even though I didn't actually use this service, I would give this business 4 stars. Here's why: after seeing my Yelp post, Clay sent me an email to explain why I hadn't gotten a response by the time I posted. He was polite and businesslike and told me his side of the story, which I accept and understand. I admit that I'm a crazy planner and wanted a quick response, which - let's face it - can't always happen. So I appreciate and applaud his taking the time to respond and explain!

So glad to have found Clay to take care of my little ones. It was a great happen stance that my usual house sitter wasn't available and I found Clay.
Simba, my cat, is very shy but has taken to Clay - sleeping with him at night and getting brushings during the day. Clay makes special spots for him as Simba dictates. He comes home very playful and happy.
I have a dog as well that has also taken advantage of Clay's services and she is very happy to see him when he comes to pick her up.
Boarding my cat and dog together was very important to me and Clay was flexible and willing to accommodate my needs.
Beyond my pet's needs he has also been very comforting when my travel hasn't gone as planned. Business flights can be cancelled and a panicked call here and there has been met with an all is well don't worry.

Thank the heavens for Clay Block! I researched everything before finding him - pet hotels, vets, you name it. Clay is the best! He takes amazing care of my only child, MOZART, and is loved by both of us! I travel often and now do it with much less guilt, as Mozart is in Clay's care and I know he is fine. I get text updates, and when I return home Mozart is calm and happy. He picks Mooch up and drops him off -making the process very easy and convenient. Kind, concerned, caring...Clay, The Pet Sitter of SF is the only place I will leave my boy!

Clay was a lifesaver! We were moving to SF from out of state and stayed in a hotel with our two dogs and baby while trying to find a place to live. There were some days that I just couldn't walk the dogs enough with an infant and Clay would rescue me! And one of our dogs has issues.... but Clay was great with him. I certainly recommend him.

Clay is a great cat sitter. He has been watching our two cats since May 2008 and one of our cats is diabetic and requires two shots a day. Clay is super responsible and we feel great knowing our little guys are under devoted care when we are out of town. Clay is also great in helping out at the last minute if an emergency should arise. Clay is a God-send! Seriously, a pet sitter takes care of your little ones and has to have your trust because he's doing this in your home, when you arent there. Clay DOES NOT disappoint. He feeds, cleans, grooms and even sings to my Fat Cat (ok, not sure about the singing but the rest is true). The best part is that he is really inexpensive. Peace of mind is priceless....if you are in the market for a pet sitter...do yourself a favor and give Clay a call. You will be glad you did.

Ditto what Teri T. said. We just wanted someone to check in on the cat once a day for four non-consecutive days during 11/21-28/10. All we needed was for someone to check her water bowl (she has an auto feeder), scoop her poop (urine drains to a concealed pee pad that's changed every week, so the sitter wouldn't have had to deal with pee), and give her some lovin'. That's it! Nothing major. No frakkin' I.V. drips or insulin shots or nightly poetry readings. Just water, poop, and an ear scritch here and there. And I said all of this in my form. A few days after receiving the auto response email -- which arrived almost immediately after sending my form -- I sent another email asking for a simple "Yup, I'm your guy!" or a "No can-do; it's turkey time, yo!" reply. I waited and still...nothing. I even checked my Junk folder just to make sure I didn't miss an email. There just never was an email. I mean, if you can't cat-sit my cat, OK. You're busy, I get it. But do me the courtesy of letting me know. S'just good business.

Clay has been my dogwalker for the past year or so. Boogie is a fun loving, gentle, ball chasing black lab who has one bad habit that caused some problems with my previous walker. Clay and I worked out a plan for a quick, private daily walk that includes ball tosses and a treat at the end. He is dependable, friendly, and Boo certainly looks forward to his visits. He even does overnight pet sitting for us on occassion, and Boo comes back happy and healthy every time!

This is an update to my review I wrote on 2/16. I've been using Clay since January of this year and he has taken care of my jack russell 5 times since my relocation to SF in Dec '10. Due to the type of work I do, I am out of town usually once or twice a month, 5 days at a time. I still receive text updates as to how Joey is doing and it helps so much to not have to worry about how he is doing. In fact, it's like a vacation for Joey as well as Clay takes him on his walks with other dogs during the day. Another thing that makes Clay "the one" is that he will pick up Joey and drop him off. I would definately recommend Clay and feel lucky to have found him. He started walking Twix the week after I adopted her, just over a year ago now. His rates are really reasonable, esp compared to what some dog walkers charge. He walks my dog every weekday, and I have also used him several times for dog boarding over 3-4 days. Twix always comes back a happy dog, so he must be doing something right! And he leaves notes or sends texts with updates. He also took care of Twix when she was really sick and cleaned up a BIG mess in my apartment, called me right away, and even bought her some rice. It was above and beyond and I really trust him with my dog. I would highly recomment Clay.

Great Service, Great Price, Great Guy! What more can I say, how many places will come right to your place and let your pets stay in comfort, especially over the holidays. Clay was very nice and helpful to our cats Geoff and Chaz, emailed us updates regularly, and from what I have found is one of the most reasonably priced cat sitters in San Francisco. Not that I like to leave the cats behind, but if I have to I will definitely be using this service again.

I found Clay through pure luck and could not be happier with him and the wonderful service he provides. We have spoiled our little Persians so much that they cannot spend 24 hours alone. When we moved here with our newly CRF diagnosed girl, I felt lost. In came Clay to the rescue and he is wonderful. From our first meeting, he came prepared with a checklist, checked out the digs and bonded straight away with the kids. Most of all, he encouraged me when I had to adminster fluids and made all of us feel comfortable. Almost one year later, Clay comes to take care of them whenever I am out of town and I get to get away, knowing I will come back to two happy, healthy cats! He sends text updates, follows the fluid schedule, all with the greatest attitude. Thank you Clay, you are a life-saver. We don't know what we would do without you!
