Neighborhood: Marina/Cow HollowI love this place! Hobbes always comes home smelling fresh and looking so shiny. Although Katherine always points out that he hates the blow drier (which I'm sure is much more amusing because of the large size of Hobbes) she has him cleaned, nails trimmed, and wagging his tail. She's been great at scheduling same day appointments and squeezing us in at the last minute. Overall, I've had nothing but positive experiences here.
Romeo & Violette, my 2 little precious monsters, have visited Katherine 2x and each time they come out looking as clean & cute as ever! She's so accommodating with last minute appointments & tries her hardest to get you in. I swear, this woman is so dedicated to her business! Sure, as Kimberly P. said, it's not fancy but who's getting the beauty treatment? You or your pets? My pups stay there part of the day and they're happy when they're there. Katherine has the demeanor and patience to deal with all personalities. She even makes great recommendations on other pet-related services she doesn't provide. Romee & Violette will be regulars @ PGH from now on! Thanks Katherine!

No, I don't have a dog. Nor have I used this place. However, I walk by there a lot at night and she has the cutest white cat and he is always sitting around and last night I petted him through the mail slot. He is super sweet so make sure you say hi when you go in there! Kitties need love too!

This is a small, privately ran business (which I personally like to see in SF). Katherine is very direct and all about business - which quite frankly is fine by me. She does an excellent job grooming my Pomeranian and charges at least half of what others would charge!!! If that means no fancy waiting area and magazines to entertain me - then good! If you want the trimmings and trappings geared towards humans, then this is not the place for you.

After taking Mimi and Sammi to Petsmart for over a year to get them groomed I became frustrated with the results. So I found Pet Grooming HDQ and decided to make the trek from Daly City to SF to get my children groomed and Katherine did not disappoint one bit.
Mimi is a Japanese Chin who is very fluffy and when PS would groom her they'd leave her hair very uneven throughout...Katherine did such a wonderful job with Mimi that even almost 2 months after their grooming her hair looks consistent throughout and there is proportion between her fluffy tail and body...instead of being completely shaved with a fluffy tail...
Sammi is a Yorkie who I love seeing shaved cuz he's such an active little stinker...K also did a great job on him...PS would always leave Sammi's head too hairy and shaved body and miss shaving/cutting hair in some areas...
Point is Katherine does a great job hands down and because of that I will drive the 20 minutes to take SamMimi to her...FYI, she's cash or check only!!

I have been taking my toy poodle to PGH for over 2 years and he always comes out looking fantastic! Katherine (the owner) loves her job and works 7 days a week to get the pets of San Francisco in pristine & presentable condition.
Her fees are extremely reasonable, she is very accommodating with scheduling, and most importantly, she treats the animals with the utmost care. (At least I have never had a problem - sorry for the reviewer who did!)
I highly recommend PGH!
I love Catherine!! I have a blonde Cocker Spaniel and she loves going to see Catherine...This says a lot about how Catherine must treat her, because she does not run from the storefront. Catherine does a great job, my dog smells and looks great. My Princess is very happy she found her favorite San Francisco salon!!
Katherine is great and I totally trust her with my pup. I love that she can always seem to fit us in at the very last minute, and Pookie comes out looking like the gorgeous diva that she is. Five stars for service and always happy demeanor, Two stars for atmosphere. Four overall.
Kathy's been grooming my 45lb Portuguese Water Dog, Miya, since she was a tiny 16lbs, and she's always done an awesome job!!
Kathy runs a one-woman show, and she charges very very reasonable prices -- a full grooming job (from bath to cut) is $65 for my PWD. And whenever I come to pick up Miya, I always find my pup sitting freely on the window seat, peering out at everyone walking by. Kathy doesn't take credit/debit, but she does take checks (in addition to cash).
I couldn't imagine taking Miya anywhere else!!

In case you have been searcihng for the world's cutest dog - you can stop your search, as she lives at my house. My girl, Cassie Dog, is really the cutest animal ever to have peed on this planet. Trust.
As such, she is also the World's Most Shy Dog. She seems to know she is the hotness and she just doesn't like people pawing all over her beauty. She likes people to keep a good three feet distance and she tends to shake like a leaf and hide behind her mama when she meets strangers. Who knows where she got this supermodel diva attitude, but its the one we seem to be going with! She is very sweet, just REALLY overly shy.
So its hard for us to find groomers that don't make Cassie want to jump out her skin. We found just such a groomer in Katherine. Kind, patient, detailed and fast - this is who the owner of Pet Grooming Headquarters is. Cassie always shows up as a stinkbomb and comes home smelling like flowers and with the softest fur ever. I actually like to use her as a pillow when she gets home. She doesn't really dig being used as a head pillow, btw. Its not ver becoming of a princess, after all.
Also, Pet Grooming HQ is really well priced - about $50 for a full grooming. If you need youd dog groomer, Katherine is simply the best in the city.
GO AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!! Your pooch may thank you if you AVOID this place.
My dog's arm was nicked and it's now led to an infection! I've brought my dog in twice to the vet and my bills have exceeded $300! I think I'm going to have to pay Katherine a visit, as she should be held accountable for causing my dog such pain. He's now wearing a bandage on his arm, taking Clavamox (for the infection), and an "elizabethan" collar over his head so he doesn't pull the bandage off.
If my dog weren't cut in the process, I'd be happy because he actually has a good haircut. (therefore, my 1 star)
The irony of this story is that I tried Pet Grooming Headquarters because of all the positive reviews I read on YELP!
CAN ANYONE IN SF RECOMMMEND A TRUSTWORTHY DOG GROOMER?

One of the things I miss the most about living in Russian Hill is the proximity that I lived to Katherine's grooming shop. It was such a nice 5 minute walk for Monty (aka Montster or Mounty, as some of the dogs at the dog park can attest to) and me. I'd drop him off, grab a coffee, browse through the shops on Union Street, go home & vacuum up the dog hair, maybe take a nap, and pick him up a few hours later. Monty always looks super spiffy afterwards & smells soooo nice!! As hard as I've tried, I cannot replicate what Katherine does in her shop.
Now, I must count myself as one of the Bridge & Tunnel crowd, and have not been able to bring myself to trust anyone in the East Bay. So I trek across the bridge so my dog can have a spa day with Katherine. Since she knows that I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, she is super accommodating in fitting Monty into her schedule.
Plus she does the anal glands. Priceless.
My husband and I have taken our 21 week old to Katherine several times and she always comes back to us looking so coiffure-like as though she has spent a day at the puppy spa :-) Katherine has always seemed to squeeze us in last minute and understands our concerns about not wanting to cut our little shih-tzu Michi's precious long eye lashes! She greets us with the affirmation that she knows that I don't want her to cut little Michi's eyelashes :-). Michi always comes back to us happy as a clam, and as cute as can be! Katherine is good as what she does, isn't over pretentious and has very reasonable prices! Definitely 5 stars in our book and worth every penny!

Katherine definitely does a great job for the price you pay! I have to admit the place is a little messy but you're not going there to get your nails done but to get your pooch washed/groomed etc. She always listens to how I want my dog cut/groomed and he always looks great after.
I love Kathrine. She is sweet and always has done a great job with my babies. I just tried a new place today (the Dog Spa---West Portal) because its super close to me...and I will not return. I will go way out of my way to go back to Kathrine she's $10 cheaper and he looks like he has a real haircut...not like he was hacked with a flo-bee.

Just $20 to wash my Jack Russell Terrier AND clean his anal gland. Half the time I just show up or call at like 7pm -- the owner seems to be there all the time. My baby comes home smelling fresh and without the urge to lick his butt till his mouth is so foamy it looks like he downed a root beer.
Don't be put off by her manner--she not rude, just really busy.
Katherine is wonderful - she's like the edward scissorhands of pet groomers!
I got there early and peeked through the window - my lil yorkie was 'still' while she was cutting away. No way does he let me get near him with scissors.
Katherine is great! This is the only place I have taken my pup. I can make an appointment on short notice, it's relatively cheap and conveniently located. The haircuts aren't always the most even, but I think that has more to do with my squirmy little dog, than the groomer. My only disappointment is that Lola never gets the bow anymore!

I must say I haven't ever gone anywhere else, but why would I? Katherine is great, my doggie (see userpic) gets great care. The doggie hates going but she leaves with amazing groomertude and a lovely new hair clip.

This is a" five star" just for the owner of Pet Grooming Headquarters. You are fabulous and I will definite give my words about how much I respect your buzz!!!
It's 10:40p.m. now and I just made the call (thinking its a answering machine and hope she will return my call tomorrow, cause I tend to forget things.....alot of times and my cats need a major bathe) Anyways, I just can't believe that I got someone answering.(I was so sorry to called this late... this just tells me, not to do this again) and she was real nice about me calling @ this time, but the sorry thing was that ........ SHE DOESN"T GROOM CATS!!!
But I really respect on how serious she took her buzz and its worth five star for her passionate and dedication for her profession.

I don't think I will return to this place again. I no like having being yelled at on how my dog is very matted. Very unprofessional like. People are only human, mistakes always will happen. If you think we are not taking good care of our animals, teach us to bettter take care of them and not scold like like little children.

After my poor poochie was traumatized by that Nazi groomer at Petsmart, I was hesitant to take my Shih-Tzu, to another groomer. Max who is now 5 months old was in bad need of an all over even cut. I wanted someone who specializes in Shih-Tzu's and was not going to look at my high maintenance puppy as a pain in the butt to groom. When I arrived today, she immediately greeted me and wanted to caress him in her arms, and he gladly accepted the attention. She had him prim and ready to go in about 2 hours(compared to the 6 hour wait at petsmart). My little fur ball who I refer to as my son, looked so handsome and smelled so delicious......all I wanted to do was kiss him, sniff him, and carry him over my shoulder like a baby. She told me he behaved himself, which is a sign of him feeling safe and happy. She told me he played with her cat which makes me happy as well that she didn't keep him locked up if it wasn't necessary. That is exactly what I have been looking for! I am grateful to have found her through yelps reviews, if not for you, my son would not be as happy and handsome as he is now. He is so irresistible to the ladies now:) Thank you Katherine!! You are the best groomer!
I also considered the Groom Room which is highly rated, I called to get information but I wasn't sold. Something about Pet Grooming Headquarters called my attention. Maybe it was the question I had asked " Do you specialize in Shih Tzu's"? Her response, " Of course I do, you have an Asian dog, and I am Asian". Enough said! When can I come over?

Say what you will about the place, but if I can call on a Saturday and be seen a few hours later for a bath and a cut and it only costs $40, that's a 5 star service. And we certainly got our money's worth too - we took the dog to the dog park and the beach earlier that day to give her as much dirty fun as possible before being cleaned.
Katherine gave me her last slot of the day. I showed up at 5:50pm, handed over my dear pooch, told to come back at 7:15pm, and was quickly ushered out the door. She means business. Lo and behold, I show up at 7:15 and my monster beast has been transformed into a clean and svelte little girl. She caters to the pets, not the humans - if you want a place that will chit chat with you , make you a cup of tea, and have a soothing ambiance, go to a people salon. As for me and my pet, the Pet Grooming HQ does just fine!
Our handsome dog has returned!
PGH looks a tad grungy in it's small, no-frills Union Street location. Maybe that's just in comparison to the boutiques and medi-spas nearby though.
This is an area I usually avoid, unless of course, it's to go see my friend Cheryl @ Studio C Skincare.
Katherine, the owner/groomer is fantastic. She's gentle, kind, sweet and very talented and Dog emerged unstressed and looking v. spiffy.
I dropped Dog off at 3pm for a $35 for wash & trim. Katherine called by 4:30pm & held him, no problem, until 6:30pm, her closing time on Sunday. In fact, I can't really figure out when Katherine closes. I think she works every day of the week.
This was a FANTASTIC find by Lisa H.
Woot woot.
===update=====
Price is now $40.

I absolutely love Katherine. Tyson has had bad experiences in the past with groomers so I'm always hesitant when dropping him off at new ones.
I was ecstatic when Katherine called me after only 2.5 hrs, said that Tyson was done and had been a very good boy! When I arrived to pick him up his happy meter was out of control. Every other groomer he emerges shaking and terrified. The prices are great too, so reasonable, especially when you have a Lhasa that needs to be trimmed every 6 weeks.
Katherine works magic! Highly recommended, highly recommended. I would give her more stars if I could. ;)
I can't say enough great things about Katherine. I hate making grooming appointments in advance so I usually call her one week in advance or even the day before. Katherine is really accommodating and always makes time for my 2 little yorkies. She is a great listener and the dogs are always groomed to my specifications. Her prices are very reasonable and she is a really nice person. I feel great bringing my business to her and I recommend her to everyone.

I found the PGH from a review on another site and could not be happier! Katherine does a great job and the price is great. I had been paying $55 to have my little Roxy groomed. At PGH the price is only $36 and she has her done in an hour and a half! I also like the fact that they only do one dog at a time and that when I pick Roxy up she is not in a cage. Check this place out!!

Katherine did a great job on our three month old Shih Tzu Ronny. I was so scared to take him to the Groomer because I had visions of him being tied down for the cut and then banished to a closed Kennel for the rest of the day. I needed someone to cut Ronny's nails and the hair around his eyes. I told Katherine, I don't care if he is uneven or if there is something you can't get to.....I just care that he is not scared/traumatized and not cut or hurt in anyway. Katherine was wonderful. The shop is a little rough around the edges but when I saw Ronny immeidately cuddle in her arms and I heard the way she talked to him and reassured him, I took another "Yelp Reviewer's " advice and figured that I am not getting my nails done and my haircut, my poochie is and as long as he is safe and happy, who cares what the place looks like. Thank-you Katherine! PS. I considered other more glamorous groomers first, but none gave me the positive vibe that Katherine did.
Fast, cheap, super sweet (Katherine you're adorable!) and wow does she do a great job!
And talk about a bargain...our vet (who we looove) charges $19 for a nail clipping (ouch)...she charges $8!!!
Katherine is abolutely the best and the only groomer I trust with my "baby". I bring in my dog in the morning and get the rest of the day off to run errands. By the time I'm done, I swing back to Pet Headquarters and my little pooch is washed, dryed, groomed including mani/pedi. All for about $45!
FYI-- don't be put off by the shop. Katherine is truly a one woman show and super busy.
I found Pet Grooming Headqueaters from the reviews in this site. It seems this place has the highest rating among others, so I give it a try.
Katherine, the owner/groomer is SUPER! She is so friendly, sweet, patient and talented. At first, I was kind of worried about my little baby, 5 months old Shitzu, because this is his first time for grooming. But when I picked up my baby, I couldn't believe that he became so handsome. Katherine does a great job! Fast, reasonable prices and most importantly, my baby likes her too!
i have to give props to katherine, who seems to have some dog whisperer gift that enables her to be the only person i know who can clip my dogs dew claws (the baby claws in addition to the regular claws that grow in wierd loops).
and her prices are so reasonable - she even trims zeus's nails and face in between for free!
*woof woof* (that's zeus for 'katherine rocks')

Just took my dog here today and she came back beautiful!!! Pet Headquarters is on the fringes of upscale Union St in small and somewhat unkept quarters. I think the owner Katherine is the only one working there. She does it all - shampooing, booking appointments, cut, and style. I told her exactly what I wanted - short, round face, and please trim the hair around the b-u-t-t so she will stay cleaner and that is exactly what I got! The quality is the same as Russian Hill Groomers at 1/3-1/2 the price. Yes, the store front isn't as upscale, but I don't really care as long as my baby is treated right and looks good. I would say this place is 20% ($10) cheaper than Bow Wow Meow on Polk St, but Katherine does a much better job. Katherine actually did the nasty stuff and cleaned my baby's b-u-t-t and trimmed her hair around her privates to keep it clean. Bow Wow Meow didn't do any of it and I was always having to constantly clean her up. I definitely recommend. I paid $40 for the works and I think that's the cheapest in the city! Only downside is that it's cash & check only - no credit card.
