Peryam & Kroll Research Corporation
10 reviews for Peryam & Kroll Research Corporation
I agree with most of the reviews here that the decor of this place is badly outdated, almost having an amusing effect on me. You know what, I really don't give a care. They pay me money for coming down and giving my opinions which turns out to easy cash in my pocket. i am not about to bitch about the decor.
The staff was rather rude, but I really can't blame them at all. I do not condone the rudeness but I do understand it. They are under a time restraint and many of the people that were there with me had extreme difficulty following the simple instructions that they provided to us. I will be back the nest time they call me for my opinions.
Bad, bad, bad! My relationship with P&K started when I was a child, Yes, this facility has been around since the 80's and it has not changed one bit. Well, except for the fact that the staff is completely incompetent, rude, and most likely dropped on their heads as babies.
After almost 2 decades had pasted, I had revisited P&K and sadly was a bit appalled by the staff. Now, it may be easy money and you may be a part of tasting future shelf items. I've tasted tons of items that I see on the shelves everyday! Bonus for that!!! But I have to remind myself to "roll-in" there with a tough bravado, every time.
The Jerry Springer audience is harmless, it's the staff that will either make you want to cry or bring in your old grade school reading workbooks to loan them.
My first visit entailed a member of my group getting into a confrontation with a staffer. During our test, I had befriended the girl, as we both felt we were in a sideshow circus. After we completed our session, the girl approached the staffer. Apparently as she was sitting in the waiting area, the staffer was talking smack about her...within ear shot of the poor girl!
If I didn't work so close, I'd never come here. But can't beat a quickie lunch session for some "mad money" as Anna S. puts it.
FYI: Don't give them your number unless you have caller ID (standard these days). They truly do call A LOT!
You want my opinions on longest flavor in chewing gum? Or help design or test out a new razor coming to the market? What about a new candy bar? Well, I'm your guy! I've been doing these survey's for years!! The only gripe I have is actually "qualifying" for them on the phone interview. I normally go thru the questions with them on the phone and then after about 5-10 minutes the girl goes "well sorry you won't be qualifying for this survey but we'll keep your name handy". I go "wait, what did I answer wrong?" and they can never tell you what they were looking for! The pay is good, the location is convenient and it's pretty damn easy money! So CALL ME Peryam & Kroll! I haven't done a survey in a while.......I need fast money!!!
I do taste testing at Peryam & Kroll once in a while...good for some extra cash.
Can anyone tell me where there are other taste testing facilities that I can join in or near the Chicago area? I'd really appreciate it !!!
OK, maybe it's just me, or maybe it's because they are so close to my house, or maybe I just enjoy the sociology experiment that is a typical P&K group every time I am there, but I like being a part of it!!
If you sign up, you will get called and asked a series of questions. Usually they are pretty benign, but I had a liquor tasting test last night (rock out Smirnoff!!) and they were a little more hard core about that. If you qualify, you will then make an appointment to come and told how much the test pays (some people have been paid over $100 for tests but the most I ever got was $60. This last liquor test paid $40).
Once you walk into the building is when the magic begins. First up, this building is straight up out of 1983, back when grey and black decors with accents of mirror was all the rage. The people working here either hate life or they are terribly abused employees, because none of them ever smile and they all act like they are about 10 seconds away from getting the gun out. As you sit in the waiting room you get to observe people from all walks of life. People you would swear were homeless (but yet have a cell phone??), punk kids, middle aged soccer moms, guys in ties, you name it.
Then your group is called and you are lead down this maze of hallways to a testing room. For as many times as I have been here and done tests, I swear I have never been in the same room twice. Most of the rooms are pure white and set up with small tables & chairs, classroom style. The folks running the test are very strict and bark out orders. At first I was a little irritated by this treatment, but once I saw how oblivious some of my fellow testees were (jumping ahead, not reading directions, sending texts, etc) I sort of get why they are like that now.
Once the tests are done and it is OK to leave, you go back to the waiting room where the money is handed out and that's it! Pretty easy and painless. Plus I have tasted a lot of weird things in the past - cheese, gum, crackers...it can be very interesting! But to me the people watching is priceless and the main reason I go. Better than the L!
Are you looking to make some extra cash..."in this economy?"
P&K Research might be an option worth considering.
Pros...
1. They pay cash.
2. You are usually out of there within an hour and a half.
3. Huge parking lot.
4. Close to public transportation and the Kennedy Expressway.
5. Very close to my house.
Cons...
1. They will call you at least two to three times a week
2. As you sit waiting in the reception area, looking around...you will think to yourself... "Am I really waiting to get into the Jerry Springer audience?"
Yes, extra cash in this economy is a good thing. 'Specially if you are a stay at home mom who needs some mad money now and then.
I did 1 (and only one) focus group at P&K . It was a taste test for rice pudding that paid $25. The only problem was, the caller that screened me for the test did not tell me it was for rice pudding, which I do not eat. She only asked very general questions, and she must have been hard up for participants because she qualified me.
When I participated in the test and admitted not having consumed the product in the last 6 months, the tester lady treated me like I was a common criminal, accusing me of lying to get in. Really, sister, for 25 bucks. Give me a freakin break. And would I have been so stupid as to then be honest about???
I agree with other reviewers, the staff is not nice, and some of the other participants are er.........how do I put it delicately? Let's just say I have found lots of other more professional companies out there that don't treat you like cattle.

+ + + They pay cash!
+ + Surveys usually last less than an hour.
+ They'll call you often.
- - - They pay less than some of the other market research companies.
- - Somewhat 'gritty' atmosphere.
- They'll call you ALL THE TIME. As in, soon you'll have 773.774.3155 memorized. Just sayin'.
Actual conversation, in part, that took place with Peryam & Kroll on Friday:
P&K Guy: Are you currently pregnant or do you plan on getting pregnant in the next 6 weeks?
Me: *laughing* Oh god no.
P&K Guy: Have you consumed alcohol in the last 30 days?
Me: I'm sitting in a bar drinking right now. So, that would be a yes.
Jelena was right - they do call ALL. THE. TIME. Like I sort of feel like they're stalking me. And you know, that's cool, but I've yet to qualify for any of their studies so now it's just annoying me. Getting stalked and not reaping the benefits of being stalked is no fun.
Perhaps I'll update this if I ever fit into their groups that haven't met their quota. Which I think is just a nice way of rejecting me. I'm totally using that line on my next boyfriend. "I'm sorry, but we've reached our quota for that group. But I'll be sure to contact you again if something else opens up."
Like Jelena, I had a very similar experience at one of P&K's focus groups. The front desk people were just really rude to me, and they fucking called me at like 7:50AM one morning to set up a focus group. Luckily, I qualified for it, but I was still pissed they called me so early. Long story short, it was one of the worst focus groups I've ever done, but the happy ending was that I got paid. They really made me work for the money, as I had to come back two days in a row to do a cigar taste test on those shitty convenience store cigars that are flavored with sweet fruits and clove.... it was just a really weird experience.
The first day I got there, I brought a sandwich with me, and the woman (how lovely she is) at the front desk told me that I couldn't eat it in the lobby ( I have no idea why?) nor in the hallway. At this point I was really hungry after my 2 hour commute to get up there, and I was so fucking pissed. She eventually told me that I had to go eat it in the bathroom... and I was like "fuck that"......
Again, this is one of the more weird focus group companies that does not use e mail AT ALL, to communicate with you, and they refuse to even consider the option of doing anything on a computer. They are so old school Chicago, it's almost like you're walking into 1989 when you go to this place. To get to their extremely inconvenient location, I had to take a bus to a train to a bus, and then do it all over again on the way home. I had to do this a total of two days, which probably totaled 5-6 hours of commuting time. I can see why this neighborhood is so secluded from the rest of Chicago (the locals like it that way... ), but it is so obnoxiously difficult to get there, and I hate the Northwest Highway bus.... Keep in mind I had to go here during a work day in the afternoon... so when the group was all over I asked for travel reimbursement, and she was like "no, I"m sorry, it's included in your payment" WHAT A LOAD OF FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!
The best part was the all white (sterile) rooms that we went to smoke the cigars in......like these rooms would help to keep the smoke away... there wasn't even a fan on in the room!! I think P&K employees a lot of the neighborhood locals, thus creating a lively and "chicagoesq" atomosphere, where outsiders like me are not welcome.
In the end, I did get $100 to smoke cigars (to put it generally)... so that's why I'm not giving them a 1 star rating. In comparison to other focus groups in town, they are well below the standard, and I don't know if I would do another here.... but we'll see.
