The marina is my stomping grounds. You'll catch me running errands, having tea/coffee, brunch/lunch, drinks...grrr everything in this area!

So of course I have Sat brunch here. French toast was light and wasn't overly saturated with butter. Thank god! Drinks, sunglasses, patio seating and only the people that make me happy. Was a great day since it was so sunny and warm. Waitress was a sweetheart! I love coming here, for the food, the people, and the patio! Sunny days and you'll see me here.

I was really disappointed by this place :( and it's to bad because I had heard good things.

I took 2 out of town guests here and I wish I had picked better SF fare. Its too bad because I love the location and laid back bar feel, but the food was awful and the service was horribly slow.

Just stick to the basics - quesadilla or something fried and you'll be fine. Don't try to order anything with fish or too gourmet - I think that's where we went wrong.

My mom and I were walking down Union looking for a place for lunch and that's when we found Perry's. At first glance...it had a family feel to me. Very warm and inviting. We were greeted by a nice man at the host's desk and were immediately brought to a table. From then on...great service and food happened. My mom and I both ordered sandwiches, nothing too fancy, but the flavors were there and the portion sizes were fantastic. Prices were also very reasonable for the neighborhood.

Overall...a lovely restaurant within beautiful Marina. I will definitely be back again soon.

Casual and quiet place in the outer reaches of the Marina.  I find Perry's to be a great place for lunch, especially if you sit outside with your dog and soak in the San Francisco sun.  I love all of their salads, and their homemade chips are highly addictive.  While its certainly not a destination place, I highly recommend Perry's for a low-key meal.

San Francisco staple. The 1/2 price burgers on Tuesday are hard to beat and the bar is great for Giants games. They invented a drink called bull shot, so if you're feeling adventurous give it a try.

Stopped into Perry's on Saturday for lunch....my friend and I ordered a hamburger, a Reuben sandwich and the baked ziti. They were all delicious!! The service was excellent as well , and the vibe was friendly....
It's location is great, right in the heart of the cool Union area... Check it out!

I just can't bring myself to give more stars. I've been to Perry's twice, to make sure the first time wasn't just an "off day". Both for dinner, I've never had lunch or brunch here.

    Problems:
    1. The food veers from palatable to stale to rather gross. You get the sense that this long-established spot just gave up trying.

    2. Service occasionally swoops in from outer space, and then disappears, to be never seen again.

I wish I could be a part of the solution but I just cannot believe that today's Perry's is the same as the popular Perry's of yore. If you're sitting here, I'm going to assume you just moved to the area or are a tourist. And I pray for you.

Had my worst brunch experience of the Marina here.

Perhaps they were having an off day (a very verrrry off day), but nothing seemed to go right.  The service was miserably slow, orders were wrong, and condiments never arrived.   Not mildly worth the wait, the food was sub-par: eggs benny -over cooked, and french toast  -dry.  Our drinks were forgettable (and, in the case of the server, forgotten).  We watched as the food runner kept running things to the wrong tables, and could hear other tables complaining as well.  One guy off to the corner looked so miserable that my boyfriend and I could not help ourselves from busting up laughing when we'd look his way.  We could commiserate, and it was that comically bad...  Another guy and his son threatened to leave and you couldn't blame them.

Needles to say, my first visit was my last, and I've had no desire to return since.

I've been here a few times now, once for dinner and 3 times for brunch/lunch.

In my opinion, it's a great brunch spot if you get a table that is near a window or exposed to sunlight - great way to start the day.  No complaints about the service really, although the food did take a little bit of time to be served.  The mimosas are delicious, and today I had the Eggs Blackstone which I thought was pretty darn tasty.  I've had a few different omelettes here before as well and they were good, nothing mindblowing but then again, I don't think I've ever had an omelette that I constantly dream about (has anyone?).  Overall though, this is a solid option for brunch, though I wouldn't make a beeline for here on the reg.

As for dinner, I've had their burger before. It was alright, but I remember feeling really sick a few hours later, so I will definitely not be ordering that again.

I had brunch here with a friend this past sunny Saturday to start off our little SF day trip!  After walking around the Marina look for a place that was more reasonable priced, we decided on Perry's.

We were seated outside on this beauuutiful day, which probably made our experience a zillion times better.  Yes, a zillion.

Mimosas which were good, but if you want me to really be a brat, it seems like it wasn't with real orange juice.  I personally like super pulpy orange juice with it, so if you like that too, don't order a mimosa here.

The potato skin appetizer was enough to be an entree in itself!!  It was soooo good, and definitely worth the price ~$9 if you're sharing it with a bunch of people.

The eggs florentine was good, but it wasn't super flavorful... maybe because I just had the potato skins.  My friend and I split this dish because it comes with two + more potatoes.

We ordered a side of chicken apple sausage which was delicious (it comes with two), but not worth $4.50.

I don't think I'd come here again, but I enjoyed my experience overall :)  For the amount of food you get, the prices are reasonable... I definitely had a lot of leftovers!

I was walking down Union trying to find a place to eat brunch with my boyfriend when we stumbled upon this place. EXCEPT we didn't eat here because everyone inside looked ridiculously depressed. It was strange.

We ended up eating dinner here another night in the middle of the week.  Service was good - our waiter was very attentive and polite. The food was sub-par.. My spinach tagliarini was a generous sized portion, but it had nearly no flavor even tho it was full of sauce,  tomatoes, mushrooms, pine nuts.. etc. My boyfriend said the meatloaf was just alright.

I would probably give this place 2 stars for the dishes we got but I'm going to +1 because the Tomato Bisque was very good and its a very nice restaurant!

Brunch here was not good.  My potatoes were soggy and took FOREVER to come. I was starting to wonder if my reflection in the mirror was a portrait of Dorian Gray.  I was tapping the table but I started getting arthritis.

For brunch, I had the eggs benedict.  My potatoes came out totally soggy and it took a long time to come out.  I was in a hurry.  They said it would take 10 minutes for food to come out, before I decided to eat Perry's.  10 minutes turned into 35 minutes.  This is not a problem if I'm not in a hurry, but since I was, and the condition upon which I ate there being that they could put food out in a short period of time, this was a huge problem.  To top it off, the potatoes had a strange flavor to them, as if it had been boiled (rather roasted) in something with kale or some other vegetable.  It looked like it belonged in soup, not next to my egg bennies, which were also below average.

I checked out Perry's with a friend for brunch one Sunday morning. Upon walking in, you're transported to a Cheers-like, neighborhood bar serving homely food.

The service was very prompt and friendly. We got there about 11:30am and it was fine, but the place definitely got crowded by 12:30pm-1pm, so keep that in mind. They take reservations also, so I'd definitely recommended making one for prompt seating.

I decided to order the huevos rancheros, and it was fantastic. Perry's unique twist on this dish was that it was served alongside an amazingly satisfying piece of homemade cornbread and a side of roasted house potatoes. Simply delish! Complemented with coffee, this was the perfect way to begin my Sunday!

Okay, while the food was great as usual, the service was a bit appalling.  Not only was our sub-par waitress pretty unattentive and flustered, she actually rolled her eyes and shook her head at our 15% tip we left her!!!  Seriously??

Having worked in the restaurant business, and oh yea, having some common SENSE, it's not proper and insanely rude.

Sad thing is, I always loved Perry's, but don't think I will return.

This is a solid place. Nothing spectacular, but reliably good - an upscale diner as far as food selection goes. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is friendly with a cool mix of posters, old advertisements, signs and local photographs on the walls. We were seated towards the back (a lot more seating than you would think - it stretches way back) in a sunny skylit room - nice to be away from the bar area which was packed. Had a very good calamari appetizer, and a vegetable frittata for my entree. Shared a side of mac n cheese (super good). There's a great selection of beer. Thought our server was very nice and I witnessed a different server in our area treat a very high maintenance customer very graciously, which I was impressed by, because I was rolling my eyes overhearing what they were dealing with!

The food was good, pretty average American bar good - nothing to rave about, nothing to complain about. Good selection so you won't have trouble finding something to order.

This place is for drinkers who are also nostalgia types who "remember the day" when as "twenty somethings" they used to hang out and imbide.  If you rocked in the 60' or 70's, this is the place to walk around and read their memorabilia on the wall from those eras.

But the food served in the 21st century is pedestrian, unimaginative and skimpy.  In a word it is awful.  Any place along Union Street is superior.  Avoid.  Avoid.  Avoid!

I have been coming to Perry's for over 10 years. In the past year I have lived a block away from Perry's with my wife. We have celebrated birthdays, showers and get togethers. We are here sometimes 3 times a week to eat breakfast lunch or dinner at times. Tonight we sat down for dinner and they served us a steak salad (my wife) and a red snapper (myself) for dinner.

The food arrived and my wife looked down at her food and a bug was dripped in salad dressing moving upside down and she freaked out and sent it back. The waiter who served it has known us for years and immediately sent it back.

Our waiter came back and served my wife a new salad like nothing happened. He didn't say sorry and actually just acted like nothing happened. What disturbed us most is that he didn't offer to take anything off the bill or apologize. The bill was shown as if nothing happened (except for the salad my wife didn't eat) and this is most heart breaking since we have been the biggest fans and this is all the response we got after 10 years.

We don't want to come back here again just based on their actions. Its too bad this is the way Perry treats all his long time customers.

We've been returning customers of Perry's for quite some time now and it's really hit or miss. I would say the ratings really depend on your server. Today, our waitress was a miss.

Outdoor seating is always prime on a sunny afternoon in San Francisco, so that worked out nicely today. The food is always consistent and the condiments are normal. No surprises here. The downside was our waitress. She was nice and could memorize our orders without a writing it down - something I always found a bit impressive, but also a bit precarious. Our dishes came out fine. The part that peeved me though was that while I was still eating my lunch with my plate still in front of me, she asks if I was ready for a dessert menu or some coffee. Really? Do you think I'm ready to have dessert while I'm still on my main course? Go away. The one time there isn't a line for the outdoor seating, the waitress has to push me to my next course. Other times, there could be a party taking up to of their precious outdoor tables just drinking water after their meal. What the hell, Perry's?

Alright Perry's, What I know is that I know what I'm going to get when I choose you! Standard, overpriced, a pitch fancier bar food. And HEY, Guess what... I enjoy it every time.

You know why? You're a classic, a San Francisco Staple, a gathering place of friends, an "everyone knows your name" type of place.

I occasionally change up my order to shoot for something healthy, but seriously a $10 spinach salad the size of my fist. Paleaze...! But delicious none the less.

Perry's is a home run for good company, good service and an all around good time. But beware, the plumbing is old and can't handle more then a tinkle. The sign says so!

    Enjoy!

I went here for a Sunday brunch with family. I have never been there before but from the moment you walk in you get the feeling of an "establishment". The place is fantastically located and was busy.

Seating was a little tight but the food and drinks came quick enough. The burger that I had was good. Not as great as some I have had but very good still.

After I finished and went off somewhere else I returned for a few more beers later in the day, again it was enjoyable and the atmosphere was very pleasant. I would definitely go again but there was nothing fantastically memorable about it.

I'm pretty sure this place at one time had a reputation for something-or-other.  Certainly my only knowledge of what it might have been comes from meager references in Tales of the  City.  Whatever it was, it wasn't obvious on my visit recently.

It was a weeknight, and it was very packed.  Our table was in the back, away from the bar so it was bit more quiet.

The service was great.  The host staff were smiling and friendly, and our waiter was prompt and gracious, which for some reason seems to be a rare quality these days.

The menu was American, and not very inventive.  However the fried calamari was quite crunchy and delicious.  Not sure that I should be advocating super-sized meals, but the portions were a bit small.  Let's just say the portion size to price ratio was a bit small.

I won't make any specific comments about the clientele, but if you know San Francisco, you know already know what Union St is all about.

Go in with low expectations and you'll be just fine.
Typical Marina-Union St scene.  Average food, ok prices.  Not worth a special trip, but if you're on Union and can't decide what you want to eat, this has enough variety.
I had the Vegetable Fritatta, and it was ok.  not sure what the vegetables were that actually were in the eggs, though.  They had been chopped to such a teeny size that I had to go on color.
    Service was fine and attentive.

This place is outright awesome! Very high quality food, exceptional service in an old world enviornment. In fact my Uncle used to drink at this bar all the time. Made reservations for 8 people at Perry's for dinner.  When we arrived, 5 minutes before our reservation, the wait staff told us they had a table set up for us but just took it apart and needed a few minutes to put it back together.  Not sure what that was all about but it didn't take long.

We tried a bunch of appetizers, spicy buffalo wings and tenders, grilled chicken quesadilla, calamari, and potato skins.  Your typical bar menu but everything was cooked and seasoned great, we enjoyed all of them.

Shared the grilled ahi sandwich for the main which I think had mayonnaise on it that I would rather leave off next time.  Ginger gave the sandwich a fresh taste.

This looks like a really old bar with a dirty tiled floor and dark wood.  Guess that's part of it's charm, good food, decent service but isn't anything to write home about.

Perry's is a 100% waste of prime real estate. They are lucky they've been around/have sort of a name because there is absolutely nothing about Perry's that should make you want to choose it over anywhere else. Cobb salads. Burgers. The basic sans any kind of thought. Fits the marina lame-homogeneity a little too well.

And our waitress thought our request for a drink menu was bizarre.

Classic American food in the Marina. It's not really a San Francisco place, in that there's nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary. It actually reminds me of a restaurant I'd fine in my hometown of Nashville. So, if you're tired of sushi, organic vegetables, free-range meat and chicken, and french sounding entrees, Perry's is great for a familiar meal.

I had an awesome prime rib sandwich lunch special a few weeks ago though it was a little pricey for what you got (~$15). I also remember an excellent chicken dinner, again like something I'd find at home.

Perry's is in prime location right in the heart of the marina on Union St. I wouldn't recommend it before a night out, unless you've got a few hours to rest and digest before you play some beer pong over at Bar None. Good looking hostesses is also a plus.

    The Hang over cure!

This place is always busy for some reason. I arrived during brunch on a packed Sunday. There's something classy about a joint where the wait and tend staff wear ties. Especially when they're done up in full Windsors!

I had the good fortune of gaining exposure to this 40 year old restaurant/bar from a very reputable marina local.

We were seated at the bar and started with a couple of fine Bloody Mary's crafted by Bob, a skilled and knowledgeable tender of the drink. The brunch menu was well populated with a wide array of entrees. I ordered the Eggs Blackstone, a variation of the Eggs Benedict with tomatoes and Hobbs bacon added. Needless to say, excellent! I think I'll throw in the blueberry pancakes next time as well. They have great buffalo wings too.

For some reason I'm sure I'll be partaking in Perry's again. Sooner rather then later.

This landmark institution still delivers the goods after more than 40 years of great food, service, vibes and people, thank you Perry Butler and team.  Had lunch with old friends at Perry's the other day and it was better than ever.  There is a timeless, cheerful homeyness reminiscent of the saloon made so famous in the long running televisions series Cheers, and when you add really great food you get a home run.  Impeccably clean, well tended and professionally staffed, the food is remarkable for the scope and integrity of the menu, but truly delivers on quality.  It was a cool, gray, rainy day and the minute we walked in the entryway and were greeted by a pert, striking hostess who quickly showed us to a window table in the front dining room, the day became lighter and more interesting.  The blue and white check table clothes, chicken wire tile floors, contemporary prints and photos framed and hung perfectly throughout the whole restaurant, the centerpiece bar, and the involved crowd busy sharing their news at tables and the bar made for a thriving community within the outside world and brought comfort to all of us.

A busser promptly arrived with water, bread sticks and unsalted butter, followed immediately by a waiter with menus and a cheerful welcome.  I knew I wanted their burger, one of the best I've ever had and still among my favorite burgers in the world.  We started with a split Caesar, grilled artichoke, corn chowder and fried calamari and it was all just mouth watering good.  I had my burger, others had grilled salmon, Chopped Salad,  Meatloaf and mashers, fettucine and roast chicken and everyone raved through each bite.  I say all this because eating in a bar restaurant is almost a thing of the past and yet Perry's offers 4 star food in a relaxed and totally comfortable environment at prices that allow the dream of a foreign sports car in the near future.  My burger was sensational, the custom bun, toasted just right and almost tailored to the meat and fixings, thoughtful and spot on.  The meat tasted fresh, was cooked as ordered and was accompanied by with house made chips that were the only disappointment the table experienced, they were cold and tasteless.  But the burger was big and sumptuous and each bite felt like I was at heaven's gate.

At Perry's time seems to matter less than at most other restaurants, maybe because it feels like a breath of fresh air, a respite or escape from pressure and stress, and it really is.  The decor, the drinks, the staff, the design and warmth, and the food, brought to life by plenty of happy faces and churning conversation make for a fine dining experience.  I'm all about burgers and this takes the cake.

I hosted a birthday party (party of 14 or so) here the other night for a friend. We planned a month or so in advance and worked with the party planner on site (Mollie) to see what our options were. She was very helpful, and knowledgable about the options we had.

When it came time for the night of the party she was not there, but other staff helped us out with our requests. They seemed to be knowledgable about our party as well which was great.

We had customized menus, brought in our own cake (there is a cakeage fee), and had a few select wines waiting for us in the back patio room we reserved. Tables were already nicely set up, and we were allowed to bring in our own decorations as well.

I was quite pleased with the readyness of the room, staff, etc. The appetizers we ordered (guacamole and tuna tacos tasted pretty good). The appetizers themselves came to $105 and I did not think for the amount we got it was worth that much, but no need to complain, as we had many guests, and that would be tacky.

We were told that 2 of the girls attending could split a meal and we would only be charged for one of theirs. We ended up being charged for both anyways, but again, I didn't want to complain in front of the guests. It was mentioned before the party, it should have been handled. It's too bad it wasn't. The party total cost ended up being WAY above what I thought it would be (some people did order hard alcohol which was not one of the options so that's probably part of the reason).

The food was just okay. I ordered the clam chowder (good), and the petrole sole with rice and veggies (meh). I've had better. But the party itself was quite enjoyable, which made up for the so-so food.

All in all, it was a great party, the staff was wonderful, the organization was great, the place itself looked amazing, only a few mishaps with the bill, and the cost was very pricey (about $62 a person if not more including tip and alcohol).

I'd still recommend to a friend to plan a party here if they were in need of a place, but I'd suggest to look elsewhere to find other options before they decide as this is the only place in SF I've hosted a party thus far.

I had a really excellent corned beef hash here for breakfast. With a poached egg and sourdough....very high quality breakfast. I really liked it. Service was good, prices weren't too bad at all...great place for breakfast in the neighborhood.

The only thing worse than my sandwich was the service.

Made our reservations on OpenTable and came in on a Wednesday morning for breakfast - there was absolutely no one in the place.  I was beginning to think that this may not be a good idea if they were already open and nobody was in here.  We got a seat next to the window and ordered breakfast.  Surprisingly, the eggs benedict I had was cooked perfectly, what a treat.  I forget what my hubby had, but who cares, I know he liked whatever he had, ha!  Would like to come back and enjoy more.  Like!

I love Perry's, and have been going there for over 20 years.

Recently, I wrote a review of Perry's Cheeseburger on my blog (http://mitchellschneid...), and here are parts of it...

Perry's has been a Bay Area institution for over 40 years. And while their menu boasts a number of delicious items, Perry's is best known for it's hamburger. I couldn't think of a better place to sample my first cheeseburger of 2011 than at Perry's, and per usual, I was not disappointed.

I went on a Sunday afternoon, and the bar area was jammed with post-New Year's Day revelers. They put me at a table in the rear of the restaurant - which I wasn't all that pleased with since there's not much of a scene in the back - but I should have known better... the place is always full on the weekends.

One of the great things about dining at Perry's is their ample supply of breadsticks and butter they place on your table before the meal (and all of this is complimentary, though sometimes you have to ask for them). The breadsticks are awesome, and if you're not careful, these blissful sticks-o-bread can derail your appetite before your main course comes. I did help myself to a few breadsticks, but in anticipation of my killer burger, I went easy on them.

My Perry's bacon-cheeseburger-with-fries came out about 20 minutes after I ordered it, and when it finally arrived, I was stoked. The first thing you notice about their burger is its presentation - it's simply beautiful. The burger occupies about half of the oval plate, with the garnish and fries taking up the rest. And the burger is big - it stands a good three inches on the plate, and the whole entire dish looks classy against the checkered blue tablecloth that Perry's has employed for decades.

Perry's doesn't skimp on fries - which I love - and they bury a sliced dill pickle alongside the burger which is also a treat.

Everything about the meal was perfect, EXCEPT the mini bowl of ketchup that they place on the plate... I hate this. Why do restaurants do this? Just make life easy for everyone, and put a bottle of Heinz on the table... do it.

After dressing my burger with ketchup, and re-applying some onions and lettuce that had fallen to the side, I picked up my cheeseburger with both hands and went for it. The first bite is really something: you taste the cooked bun, burger meat, cheddar cheese and bacon in one fell swoop, and it's all fantastic. The meat is juicy with a great taste; the bacon is crispy; and the cheese balances everything else without overpowering you. This was exactly what I wanted, and why Perry's is so beloved.

The next few bites are just as good, and impressive for the following reasons:

-The burger, though big, stays together (whereas other burgers that size often fall apart in clumps)
-The bun-to-meat ratio is money; there's plenty of bun to hold everything together, but not enough to make you feel you're consuming an entire baguette
-There are actual meaty strips of "Hobbs" bacon on the burger, rather than smaller 1-2 inch strips placed unceremoniously atop the meal
-The garnish is fresh (which isn't always the case)

The Perry's burger takes about ten to 12 minutes to consume (though I eat pretty quickly), and each bite is really a treat. If you're like me, you save your fries 'til the very end, and, like the burger, are also impossible to put down.

.I was very happy with Perry's.  Services was great, the atmosphere is very nice and the view of the bay bridge from the back is awesome.  I could see this being a decent date spot.

One complaint - ditch the break sticks! This is SFO, how about some sour dough frech!

I will definitely be back for another round of food and conversation.  I enjoy restaurants that don't rush out the food, and rush you out the door so they can keep the table fresh with new patrons.  The Marina has many options for eateries, and this one has a touch of old school that makes you feel right at home, not to mention they have televisions with the Niners game!
