This was the second winery we visited during the All-Singing, All-Dancing Wine-Tasting Spectacular. Perry Creek was definitely a step up after Villa Toscano.
The tasting room itself is bright, inviting, and elegant. We were greeted warmly by the owner Michele, who only bought the winery last year. She guided us through a few wines, including a nice 2005 Viognier and a 2006 Muscat Canelli that was like fairy wine - sweet and delicate, with flavors of citrus and honey.
Perry Creek is known for their ZinMan Zinfandel, and the 2004 we tried was a big spicy red. I had to give serious consideration between the Muscat and the ZinMan, since I would be flying home and would have to pack any bottles I bought in my suitcase. I ended up with the Muscat, a steal at $12. (The ZinMan was only $14!)
This was one of our favorite stops - we felt so welcomed and really enjoyed all the wines we tried. Plus we got to meet Rufus, the resident wine dog, who was the most adorable boxer I've ever seen. I totally wanted to bring him home with my bottle of wine.

I have never visited the wineries. But have become quite familiar with their wines recently at a prty hosted by the owner. A couple weeks ago I went wine tasting in Placerville and was generally unimpressed. I mentioned this to the Operation Manger, Stefan, of PC he smiled, laughed in a congenial way and said "ya, those places are pretty touristy, our wines are better." That was the understatement of the night. They had available the 2005 Syrah, Cabernet, Viognier, and of course the 2004 Zin Man. Most notable was the Zin Man, more accesible than many of the Zins available with deep and appealing flavors. However, the star of the night was the Altitude 2041 Reserve Zin. I'm not a wine critic, but its quite good and thats not just because of the endless pours. If you are in Fairplay wine tasting, or for any other reason, do not miss Perry Creek.
