Great phone service, so today I had this great conversation with Mike. I was inquiring about my knives and having to have them sharpened. While I had him on the phone I took the liberty of asking him about the blocks and if there was any need to pursue that option.
He talked about old school times when the milk was delivered in the jugs through the ice box. We talked about when folks would come door to door to sharpen knives. I'm sold. So, next week I"m off to The Perfect Edge, all knives in tow.
I'll will update when I return. All I can say is if I can that kind of service, level of patience and response to my questions on the phone, I'll be leaving the store a happy camper.
LOVE IT! You can get your knives sharpened, buy new ones, find a cool knife bag in any price range, they have great shoes and uniforms, gadgets galore, an amazingly knowledgeable and friendly staff. Whether you're a professional Chef or home cook, this is THE place to check out.

I've always prided myself on my ability to keep my knives sharper than the average household knife. I must now bow my head in shame.
DH had an appt. with a client up in San Mateo and asked if I would like to accompany him on the drive. So I Yelped to see what was up there that could occupy my time for about an hour. Perfect Edge popped up and I figured, well, I've never had my knives professionally sharpened, so let's see what I'm missing. OMG! Sharp, sharp, sharp!
Seven knives for $60. Three of the knives required corrective repairs. Those just happened to be the three knives I use the most. I purchased a new boning knife and I'm going to hold off using it until I can take it back up for them to sharpen and put their edge on it. The knives they sharpened for me are way sharper than the new boning knife.
DH was a bit sad that I had failed to include his Chinese cleavers. I don't use cleavers so I don't think I even gave them a first thought, let alone a second. DH being Chinese, he only uses cleavers. So, we are planning another trip up to sharpen his cleavers (so worth the 40-min drive because we can then lunch at Pancho Villa!).
Oh yeah, I'm looking at my hands which have more than a few tiny little nicks from the knives being so sharp. :)

This place is great, my review is for the knife sharpening. I've heard of this place but finally decided to motivate and get my knives sharpened. They aren't Shuns or anything but I like them and they were dull so I took them in. About 10 minutes and $35 later, I got all 5 of my knives super sharp! They charge by the length and if it's a serrated blade so my 2 paring knives and 3 kitchen knives came out to about that price. I was of course warned to take them home and wash them before using them and that they would be sharp. And I of course took them home, washed them, and then poked my finger with the newly sharpened tip of one of the knives and bled a little. :-( Aside from that, having sharp kitchen knives are essential so bring them in and get them sharpened at least once a year, tuning them up each time you use them with the kitchen sharpener.
Do NOT, NOT... NOT try to rob this place. All employees and customers are within an arms reach of razor sharp cutlery. I used the knife sharpening service which was like getting 5 new knives for $25. Am actually a little scared to use them now. When they not-quite-dull-not-quite-sharp there was some margin for error.
Asked which of the dishers was tablespoon size, they didn't know right off. But they were helpful in taking the three that seemed closest in the back along with a set of measuring spoons and filling the candidates with water to figure it out.
(NOTE for those who know me: this disher is to be able to make cacao-nib cookies faster and easier)
Slight edge to this place over County Supply in San Carlos because this seems more geared toward the individual instead of restaurants. Yet it still maintains a feeling of professional grade tools instead of pretty-pretty-ness (a la the Chef's Store in San Carlos that County Supply opened on Laurel).
Prices are just ok but it's a better all-round selection than a big-box like Bed, Bath, & beyond.

They have all kinds of kitchen stuff - some things you can't find at Williams Sonoma or Crate and Barrel. I love that they have vanilla and saffron at half the price then the grocery store. They have good prices on everything else too.
I was once looking for a pizza screen asked about and they didn't have it, came back in a few weeks later and they ordered them because I asked about it. How great are they!!!

This place blew me away by their customer service, knife sharpening, and vast array of products they offered. I walked in with some knives to get sharpened and only waited 10 minutes for everything to be done. The knives came back super sharp. I had a knife sharpened which I didn't think was that dull; boy was I wrong! The knife was so sharp that it felt like I was cutting butter instead of raw meat.
The employees were really helpful and helped answer a lot of my questions. They weren't pushy or trying to sell me anything; they just wanted to make me an informed buyer. They have a ton of cake pans, metal mixing bowls, pots and pans from all the major brand names, and a lot of cooking tools. They had just about anything you can imagine.
They had a sale for 50% off specially marked items. Included in this sale were ramekins of various sizes. I wanted to buy them all if I could find the space in my kitchen!
I can't say enough good things about this store and I'll definitely be back.
The only cons that I can think of are that it is closed on weekends but the level of professionalism more than makes up for its M-F hours of operation.

Just got our knives sharpened here yesterday. Holy CRAP, they are sharp! I barely have to apply pressure for these knives to cut! It's amazing...they sharpened them in under 10 minutes, and it cost $48 (8 knives, plus I bought a tool to maintain the sharpness). They have a crazy supply of kitchen goods, too.
One warning - their website says they are open on Saturdays, but that's wrong - they are only open Mon-Fri 10-6.

Thank you to my friend Amy who's a Chef at Guckenheimer. She recommened this place for my new venture into Master Grilling - Fourth Degree Black Belt with supreme quality chef knives! LOL!
I made an appointment with Hila Yavnieli the store manager and we went over all the weapons I needed and the ancient art form of cutting and grilling. Yes Master! You have taught me wisely! I am grateful for my Wusthof Swords and I will make you proud when I go into battle with them!
Okay... enough with the inside jokes! Maybe after a few sword fights, three hostile take overs, and one eragon dragon slaying I will return to have my knives re-sharpened. Customer service is supreme as well as the return policy on their knives. This is great for anyone preparing to enter culinary school (student discounts available) or looking to seriously upgrade their kitchen tools.
I've decided to invest now because of all the upcoming events I have been asked to grill for this coming summer (picnics, parties, etc..). Keep in mind, they carry the HIGH END quality kitchen tools! You WON'T find the cheap walmart crap here!

Perfect Edge are the friendly folks who sharpen our restaurant's knives for us every couple of months or so. I watched the whole process from out of their little trailer truck (in which they also sell knives) and when I saw their selection of knives I knew I had to check out their main store for myself.
Can you say "kid in a candy store"? They carry EVERYTHING kitchen related. Baking sheets, bowls, scales, cutters, scrapers, knife bags and guards, steels, coats, clogs and pants. They even have a corner for Le Creuset pans (which I reccomend for your home kitchen). Oh and I haven't even got to the wall of knives. Wow what a selection of knives. From generic NSF knives to Wusthof to Henckels. This place is a one stop shop for everything restaurant supply.
Friendly, knowledgable customer service. And 10% off if you work in the business. For a tiny store, this place will blow you away. A+!

I had them sharpen my knives and they did a great job. Their prices are very reasonable and the staff are really helpful. Which reminds me I need to go back soon.....

These are the *only* people I trust to sharpen my knives (with the exception of my dad, but he's in LA...) -- as Mikey says, they have an amazing selection of knives and all kinds of fun cookery supplies- all at totally fair prices, with knowledgable and helpful staff. (Try that at Macy's.)
Once you've invested in your favorite chef's knife (or gotten one through your gift registry,) make sure you get it sharpened by them- it really is worth the trip. they charge $2 or so per inch (so sharpening my 6" chef's knife costs a whopping $6) - I'm still considering one of those new Kyocera Ceramic knives...
Silicone spatulas, egg timers, bundt pans, cookie cutters, Silpat mats, garlic presses--- you name it, they have the ones that really *do* work, with people who know their inventory!!

I used to live right down the street, and they kept my knives in great shape. Once you have them, you can never live with dull knives in the kitchen.
Plus, you can gawk at how big of a knife they will actually sell to a person like me, without demonstrating any cutlery skills whatsoever. There should be a test or something, seems to me.

The selection of cooking supplies here is top notch and the prices fair. I needed to pick out a knife for a Christmas gift and the staff spent a half hour showing me a dozen different knives that fit my needs and I never felt as if I was being steered in any direction based on a bigger dollar sale for them. They even have a cutting board set up with demo knives and veggies for your comparison pleasure. They also offer quick, inexpensive, and perfect knife sharpening that brought back to life an aged favorite of my own. The selection of knives is amazing, but their offerings go far beyond knives with pans, books, and all types of exotic kitchen gadgetry.
