7 reviews for Peppertree Inn the
Located within walking distance of the main downtown strip, this is a great little place to stay when you feel like hanging out near the bars and restaurants. I usually stay in Palm Desert, so this was a nice little change - though I now think I prefer the resort atmosphere in PD a little more than the spring-break, tourist vibe I encountered in downtown PS. None the less, the Peppertree Inn was pleasant.
It's right behind Cheeky's restaurant and that piece of art on the main road that looks like a giant lounge chair made out of AstroTurf. Good spot for a group of girlfriends to get together or a fun weekend getaway with that special someone. The pool area is small, but there are plenty of lounge chairs and even some floats to recline on in the water. We brought a cooler of coronas out and poured them in plastic cups - no one seemed bothered by it whatsoever.
My only complaint would be about the native American folk music they have playing on speakers out by the pool - definitely not my favorite genre, in fact it's quite annoying. I also found the elephant fountain near the front entrance to be a bit bizarre - don't let it throw you off. It looks like it belongs on a miniature golf course and does not go with the look of the place.
It's not fancy, but it is clean, cute, affordable, and comfortable. The in-room air conditioning worked well and that was a blessing in the stifling heat. Bed was super comfortable. They have patio tables and chairs set-up throughout the property should you care to read a book or have a drink at sunset.
If your looking for a more luxurious spa atmosphere - head down the road to the Miramonte or La Quinta.
I have been here twice. The first time I would definately have given this secret hideout 5 stars it was a wonderfully relaxing experience, this was back in August so the heat was still sweltering, which meant lower occupancy. We stayed an additional night rather than go home on Sunday. The hotel is tucked away but within walking distance of downtown. tremendously clean rooms and very efficient staff. For several weeks I did nothing but sing the pepper tree praises. Whilst I never expect a hotel to be for my use only(!) the second time was a different matter, but the peppertree staff handled it! They upgraded our room to a deluxe king and gave us a complimentary bottle of chilled wine in our room and a very sweet card welcoming us back, an excellent touch I thought. All was going just as well as before...until bed time. We fell asleep and were woken a couple of hours later at 2am by our noisy neighbors, 3 drunk gents who had requested a patio room for smoking purposes, unfortunately the patio was right next to our bedroom and it being September, it was cool enough to sleep with the window open, until the waft of their Parliaments came in. They were so loud and obnoxious and their conversation (which sounded like it was being conducted in our room) was so grossly triple x rated that after an hour of just wishing they'd call it a night, we called front desk. Finally things quiet down, then at 4.30am another party of what sounded like 15 decided it was swim time and threw a poolside party! Once again, we're on the phone to front desk and the revellers were promptly asked to keep it down. I will definately be returning, but if you decide to go, just check that the room next to you does not have tables and chairs outside, guests with these rooms will definately be using them, at all hours!
Stayed here on business for a month and I have to say that I could have lived here. I loved the location (just outside the main street, right before it hits the one way streets) and far enough that you don't hear the slot machines from the casinos.
Small rooms, but so very comfortable. A nice pool and friendly owners. I would stay here over any other location, and if it's a little more, it's worth it.
Enjoy!
When it's time to take a quick break from the Big Smoke, we put down the top and head for the Springs. Usually we deposit our tired asses at the Peppertree...
It's close to town, quaint, and quiet. When we hit the town, we like it loud - when at the hotel, we like it quiet. The pool area is nice and peaceful and it is BYOB (best to get a room adjacent to the pool). So after changing into our bathing suits, the wife (a excellent mixologist in her own right) brings out the first cocktails (the deal - I drive, she mixes) and it's sun and relaxation.
The guests tend to be older (I'm 50, act like I'm 30, and look 60 - not the best formula, but I'm stuck with it...) and are there for usually the same reason as me - a quiet change of pace (and to recharge and/or prepare for the nights).
The rooms are very well done and good size (We get the Pool Side King Deluxe). The front desk is friendly and helpful. They serve a continental breakfast (but for me, I head to Sherman's - Bloody Mary and eggs - hey it's VACATION!) that looks good. The wife usually grabs some fruit and coffee - maybe that's why she has the dynamite body and me, well, I carry the wallet...
And that's why we usually stay at the Peppertree...

My wife and I stayed here for our 1 year anniversary. The service was excellent, we got bumped to a bigger room for free.
It's a small place in contrast to some of the huge spa-type hotels that are in palm springs. If you're looking for a nice place that's quiet, affordable, and has a pool...check it out.
Of course, off-season is when you get the best deals, that is if you can handle the 200 degree heat.
I visited Pepper Tree Inn last weekend because I seriously needed a getaway. The website featured lots of cute photos of the property, as well as suggestions for local activities.
I picked this place because San Diego & Santa Barbara were overbooked and overpriced, and I had never been to Palm Springs before.
When I arrived at the hotel, I entered the office and was greeted by some very friendly faces. A nice girl lead me to the hotel room, showed me all the amenities, snack machines, swimming pool and where everything was located.
The room was large (king size suite with fireplace & patio) with nicely textured painted walls. The bathroom had a walk in shower and a very clean toilet. They also had little sample sized sunscreen packets!
The only downside of the room was that the air conditioning didn't work very well. All the rooms are equiped with individual wall AC units. It didn't seem to cool the room very well, but it might also be attributed to the fact that I didn't understand the AC unit remote control.
The swimming pool was an added bonus because of the heat. The website also states that the pool does not have chlorine, but is a natural salt water pool. It's true!
Overall, it was nice. I probably won't be going back just because Palm Springs wasn't happening for me. Maybe somewhere else :)
The Pepper Tree Inn is a recently-renovated property that features its own design style. A style that we weren't necessarily crazy about, but overall was pleasant and acceptable (with exception of the crazy fountains). We were 4 so we rented the 2-bedroom suite- it came to around $365 including the taxes, a very good value. Hotel room was nicely furnished, featured comfortable carpet + terracotta tiles, with a separate AC / Heater unit for each bedroom and in the common living room. The hotel is proud with the separate TV sets in all 3 rooms (I wonder who has the time to watch so much TV while visiting Palm Springs???). This is OK, I guess if you have many kids of different ages and still want to watch CNN, it is doable. A rather modest kitchenette (sink + small counter + fridge + microwave... basics only) + a computer desk space in a niche completed the living room. The beds were very nice, firm and comfortable. The rooms had no smell whatsoever, which is a very important factor. The 2 separate full bathrooms were furnished with bathrobes and a great full set of spa-quality toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, mouthwash, hand soap, body soap, shower cap, and a travel kit that included q-tips and even sewing kit... wow, extensive, pretty good value). The bathrobes were a very nice touch- we really enjoyed them; some hotels in PS do not offer this "small" detail... but we find it a very important "small" detail.
The non-chlorinated salt-water swimming pool is heated to 80 degrees which is not that warm, especially considering the relatively cold weather... but still, it was pleasant; there was a 5-person jacuzzi tub nearby. We did not try the jacuzzi because there were 2 middle age guys hanging out in it. They were curiously and interactively gawking at the guests passing by... Guys, you should control the amount of white hair all over your arms, chests and backs... it feels like you have some kind of white cashmere sweater... But you don't go into a public pool or jacuzzi with your sweater on, do you? Have you ever heard of a $20 product called hair trimmer or groomer???
The value of our hotel experience was greatly enhanced by the free high-speed internet for the guests with laptops. In addition there was free breakfast- nothing very special but it covered all the basics: normal / decaf coffees, 4 types of cereals, whole or 2% milk, fresh fruits, 2 types of juices, wheat bagels with toaster & Philadelhia cheese... did I miss anything?
The only thing that really pissed me off about this hotel was that they still use styrofoam plates, cups and plastic utensils for their breakfast, which helps to build up a mountain of trash at the end of every breakfast... This type of thing always baffles me, I don't understand it. People, you need to change the way you think with regards to littering. But I guess this should be driven by the city?
Summary: the property is 5 stars (for the comfort + complete set of amenities, not for the "design / visuals" which we thought were a bit over the top... it's a matter of personal taste). I remove 1 star because of the non-environmental breakfast situation.
