So my Wife wanted to cruise the Camarillo outlets and after hours of trekking around we were getting hungry so let's punch up TACOS in the GPS and see what around here!....Baja Fresh (pass), Burrito Express (pass), Chipotle (PASS), Pepe's Mexican Food Hmmm ok let's check it out!.......

So we arrive at Pepe's and it's a small shack right next to the Chanel Island Harbor pretty cool little area! http://www.yelp.com/bi... very small parking lot, but most people just park where ever I guess that's life by the beach, ok this place is busy and it's all gringo surfers! OHHH I gotta feeling this is gonna be some WH-EXICAN food!!!, Pepe yeah right it's probably Peter! Punk'd again??

We check out the menu (since I plan on hitting up one other place after this) we both decide on the Taco plate, which is 2 tacos, rice & beans, and we both chose 1-Carne Asada and 1- Al Pastor.......I ordered "to go" because I saw a spot at the harbor only a block away that would be a nice spot to eat!..............

So I open up the food box and start laughing "let the fun begin"........

Lettuce and Yellow Cheese on my Taco!!! What the Hell, Damn Gringo's now I know there's NO Pepe!................after I finish laughing I start to eat and first these are some HUGE Tacos like 6" tortillas, I will say "NOT AUTHENTIC" Mexican Tacos but this Carne Asada taco was damn good I must admit, unfortunately the Al Pastor was not as good but just OK, Rice was Excellent and Beans were good. http://www.yelp.com/bi...

But the best part of the meal was the view and the company I was with! http://www.yelp.com/bi... this is where we ate.....

Funny part I noticed after wards, can you figure it out from these two pictures? http://www.yelp.com/bi...  http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Carne Asada, Rice & Beans - 5 - Stars
Al Pastor - 3 - Stars
Overall 4 - Stars but "The View" is - Priceless................so......

5 - Stars...I would definitely go back!, and would recommend if your in the area!

OH, and CASH ONLY.........................

Just when I think it might be time to drift into Yelp retirement, I have a reason to fight on. Without warnings like this, I'd be abandoning all of you poor souls.

Got a strong tip from a Yelper AND some affirmation from some locals that Pepe's is a mecca for tacos. There's only one thing I love more than Mandy and that is my mistress...the fish taco. Beautiful warm day on the strand with a small line of other taco eaters. This is gonna be good...steps from the beach...perfect fish taco vibe.

I'm about to order the fish taco plate when this squirrelly little hairy hobbit steps in front of me. He's around 35, 5'7", wears thoooper blue wayfarer style ray bans and lives next to the place. This brrrahhh dude is obviously jobless cuz it's 1:30 on a Monday and he's in trunks...what's that ???  A tattoo on the small of his back...who gets a tuft of hair tat down there? My God!!! That isn't a tattoo! So with hair billowing out of his boardshorts, dude brah orders his food and I steer clear.

Whew. Bad vibe and not as hungry as I once was...I push on. My tacos arrive and it just plain sucks. Good heft with decent salsa but where is the fish? The "bluegill" filet is overly battered and what's this?? The batter next to the fish is not fried...ewwww. One of the crappiest fish tacos on Earth.

Maybe their carne is good but I won't be finding out. And hey brah dude...get a job and tuck in the buns afro.

I'm always saying I could own a taco truck in Hawaii and be a crazy barefoot taco truck lady and I'd be satisfied. How can you have an awesome beach without an awesome taco shack nearby? Impossible.

Pepe's is shacktastic. Kinda dingy looking. Older guys loitering while they're waiting for their orders. Parking is wherever fits. Love it!

We got some fish tacos after our day spent at Silver Strand trying to survive in the gruesome waves. We carried them back to my car and devoured them in a few gulps. My only complaint is that I wish that the fish wasn't breaded and fried. But the salsa on top was the tomato goodness!

Nothing hits the spot after a day in the sun like some fish tacos!

Hands down my favorite burrito hole in the wall...ever! From the fish tacos to the carne asada burritos, I have never had anything like the food served here. It doesn't help that I live next door, either.

By the way, the service has never been anything but top-notch!

Finally ate here. Glad I did. Excellent "Chingaso" sauce. Too far away from decent places to live or work though.

Cheap Mexican eats in the 805! What else do you need in life? Pepe's is a local spot that combines a nice sea breeze with braised meats and Mexican staples - beans, rice, and homemade chips. And as everyone already stated, the portions are a bit absurd! Whether you prefer a surf, turf, or vegetarian filling, you will not leave this taco stand hungry!

Just like the rest of the Yelpers who reviewed this place, I almost feel like I'm committing a small crime against the locals by revealing this gem.

Not the very best Mexican food I've had, but definitely up there. Portions are huge--I mean HUGE, the burritos are the size of young child's head.

The fish tacos are definitely choice, though. I would go back for the fish tacos alone!

Atmosphere doesn't feel like the "usual" place you'd find Mexican food this good (read: Downtown Oxnard)...sunny Silver Strand is beautiful all year round.

I want more fish tacos. SOOO GOOOD!

We finally made it  to Pepe's before they closed!! They have some MASSIVE BURRITOS but they were oh so yummy! We took ours down to the beach and had a romantic picnic. :-)
Hubby and I both got Carne Asada with the sauce on the side. The medium sauce wasn't spicy at all but I'm glad we got it on the side as a precaution.
Couple of things- they only take cash, parking is limited, there is only seating outside, oh and this is not a sit down and be served type of place. But seriously, the burrito was fantastic. I ate the other half of mine for lunch the next day! Dinner for 2 for $16 and leftovers the next day! I'll be back!

The food is yummy whenever our family is in Ventura we always eat her.  The fish burritos are great.  I like these burritos and they are similar to La Bulfadora in El Monte, Ca. The green salsa is good and the red chili has a roasted hot tasteI wish they would take credit cards.

Some of the best mexican food in the area. Try a spicy beef burrito. Delicious and everything tastes fresh. Reasonable pricing but CASH ONLY!  Outdoor seating only. Bring a jacket because it's right next to the marina.

Haha ! Teri O. left a great review of Pepe's and I HAVE to agree!

Great food!! A friend and I have been here once and we'd take our food to go, park at the wall and eat. I had the Nachos and he had a Wet Burrito and it was awesome. I love this place. Love love love love. Take it with you and sit on the beach for an awesome afternoon.

Parking isn't that great, & I kind of feel bad for parking in front of people's houses but forget them! They're lucky enough to be yards away and I'm jealous =P Hehe. Please don't hurt me.

Truly a hidden gem.  I have lived in Oxnard for a long time and it would have been a tragedy if I never got to discover this place.  This is a small stand behind the Sea Bee base in Port Hueneme, past the CI Harbor.  The fish burritos here are tasty, huge and very fulfilling.  A visit here is a must!

This little shack of a place has some of the BEST mexican food. It has become me and my wife's annual Tuesday meal. Their fish tacos are probably my favorite with a mix of fish, generous portion of pico de gallo, little hot sauce and mayo. Also, I usually get a really nice rice, bean and cheese burrito that taste fantastic. The beans and cheese they use are very good. Couldn't recommend this place more and also of note is their prices. The prices are very cheap and you could get away with a very filling meal for $5 easily. Go today!

Pepe's has the dankest fish tacos ever! Going Pepe's is a ritual that a few of my friends have before we going on our sailing expeditions. Don't let the fact that it is in a shack scare you away because it is truly one of the best fish taco's ever assembled. Do you think I would lie to you?

These people are out of their minds. Pepe's serves large portions of bad food. I can name at least 25 places in la that are better than this. The "hot" sauce is weak at best. The pastor lacks flavor. The asada was COLD. Go to El Taurino, King Taco, Any roach coach in la, LAX tacos, Taco de Mexico, even Burrito King at Alvarado and Sunset (and they suck!!!) and it is better. I am so sick of these good reviews off of this site and many others that turn out to be piles of sh*t.

So can I give a review to a restaurant that I haven't eatin at in 20 years??? I lived around the corner from this place in 1990. Actually I didn't just eat here I lived off of Carne Asada, Fish Tacos and Shredded Pork. We are planning a family reunion and you can bet this will be the first place we stop. I am so excited that Pepe's still exists. I wonder if they still trade tacos for beer???

I'm with everyone else. I lived at silverstrand beach and have fond memories of biking the few block to Pepes, ordering a burrito and a beer and parking myself on the beach for one of the best burritos I've ever had. Doesn't matter what you order. Its good.

YUMMMMMMMMM!!!

A classic hole-in-the-wall food stand located next to Channel Islands harbor that serves up belly-stretching burritos, large tacos, and nacho platters that can satisfy the big eaters of the world. Deb & I rarely have to spend more than $10.00 to get new stretch marks - a real bonus.

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Ventura County. The cooks barely speak English and its right by the beach. If you can't get to La Superica, Pepe's is the place to be. We are committing a great sin by putting Pepe's on this site. For many years it has been a locals only favorite, a hangout for surfers, cops and locals. The burritos are the size of a small puppy, and are exceptionally good. The food is authentic and wholesome. There is no dining room, only a few tables outside. Takeout is the best way to go here.

Ah, Pepe's!  This was my favorite burrito place when I lived here 3-5 years ago.  So, what do I when I return?  I go to Pepe's for a gigantic, low-priced burrito (most under $4).  Carnitas, al pastor, chile relleno are some of my favorites.  This place is different in that rice and creamy refried beans are regular items in the burritos, along with a side of chips and hot sauce.  Yes, you go further south to the OC and San Diego, the California or carne asada burritos reign as king.  But here in VC, you can never go wrong with this Mexican food stand at the base of Silver Strand Beach in Oxnard.
