oooh I love this place! best damn tacos in town--PERIOD. even better than taco trucks. Friendly service and great pico de gallo.
I never call Pepe's by it's formal name. Instead, I refer to this restaurant as the "Mexican Revolution Taqueria." Why? Because inside this most awesome taqueria you'll find pictures and paintings of Pancho Villa and Emilio Zapata. Anyhow...
The food at Pepe's is tops and it won't break the bank. I always get the chile verde pork (read my other Mexican restaurant reviews and you'll see a trend there). You serve your own salsa - one of which looks like cigarette butts in tomato sauce (it is gross). That is really the only bad thing I can think about at Pepe's. Go there for breakfast and you'll find they have a special brew of coffee that is quite good (screw Starbucks). Oh yea - NOT OPEN ON SUNDAYS (just in case you want to grab some grub).

I've eaten at A LOT of taquerias from Sacramento all the way down to San Diego. I feel that I have great judgement when it comes to taqueria fare.
Pepe's (bright yellow building on Mission Blvd., north of Tennyson) has the best burrito I've had in all of Northern California. I used to come here to grab lunch when I worked at nearby Garin Regional Park. Its decorated really tacky, thus the bright yellow paint, its family owned, and the service is great. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THE CHICKEN FAJITA BURRITO. Its awessommmme, it has lots of fresh bell pepers and grilled onions, and moist flavorful chicken. The portion/price ratio is more than reasonable. I also love their Chicken Tortilla Soup which is also great. It reminded me of tortilla soup I had in Mexico.
I really need to go back to Hayward just for this place!

Pepe's is a small, family owned restaurant on Mission Blvd. in Hayward. It is bright yellow and looks like an old taco bell. The service is great the the carne asada tortas are out of this world. The burritos are huge and delicious. They also have wonderful margaritas!
Huge Burritos. Great Prices. Friendly Service. Clean.
