Came here in the flesh with the bf to surprise my coworker on her bday. We bought 2 breakfast burritos, 2 carne asada burritos, a cheese flour quesadilla, a chicken taco and fries. Total came out to be ~$30. We waited about 5-10 mins for ALL that food.
The customer service was AMAZING. I'm so used to going to albertos and getting ignored and treated like crap cause I can't speak spanish but boy does Pepe's value their customers. The nice lady that helped me was very patient because I didn't know what was in the burritos so she went through all the ingredients for me with a smile and I told her to just put whatever's good in there lol.
I just had to reiterate that this is, hands down, the best mexican joint I've ever been to. $5 for a burrito the size of you arm = awesome.1 Previous Review: Show all »

3star not bad for a fast food place. I heard a lot about this place "Pepe's" and I live close by for the past 3 years, but since I don't like to eat junk food that much, I never had the chance to stop by here.
I was here few days ago with a friend, because he wanted something heavy for his veggie diet, so he wanted Mexican. So we came and I ordered the beef burrito, and he ordered the veggie burrito and both are $5 each. My burrito was average, for $5 I had better burrito before. However my friend was impressed by his veggie burrito, so that evened the score out.
I heard a lot of great things about this place, but personally I don't think I will come back anytime soon. 3star for this place is just about right. -

If you're jonesing for some quick Mexican, and aren't down with Del Taco or Taco Bell, this is where you should come.
I've been a fan of Pepe's for years, and there's a lot of reasons why. Firstly, their standard hard shell beef tacos. They. Are. HUGE. Greasy, and HUGE.
Second? Their guacamole. I can't think of a single place that gives you THAT MUCH guacamole. I swear. Sometimes I think they'll use 2 entire avocados per order. Someone in management must own an avocado farm. Seriously. While it does seem that they've cut back on these portions in the past few years, I still can't complain. The amount you receive on an order of taquitos or the beef taco with guac is nearly obscene.
You pretty much can't go wrong with anything you order here. Breakfast burritos are always a good choice. Taquitos are great. Their burritos are also gigantic. Tacos, obviously. Their meat is delish. Hell, even their cheeseburger is a good choice when you've already eaten enough Mexican for the week.
They do charge for using your debit card here--Which is sort of a drag. And no, they don't take credit cards. But holy crap, the amount of rice and beans they give you on a plate is worth it to me. -

The shredded beef tacos here are excellent, so is the Machaca (it is SPICY). I just tried the mini chicken taquitos, smothered in fresh, real guacamole. Good fast mexican food.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE their breakfast burrito! I constantly find myself throwing my hard earned dollars on their counter to feed my burrito addiction. If anyone knows about a better breakfast burrito in the OC area, please let me know because I have not found one yet.
Even though I'm in love with their breakfast burrito, I HAVE managed to pull myself away to order other things off the menu too. A few other things to try are their shredded beef tacos with guacamole, green chili pork fries, red chili burrito or fries, taquitos, and their chorizo burrito.
A lot of times they will give you their red sauce, which is pretty good. However, make sure you ask for their green sauce because it's way better!
The staff is very friendly and it seems like they are constantly cleaning the tables and mopping the floors. I always appreciate when a business takes the time to keep their establishment clean throughout the day.
I hate to take away a star, but sadly I must. This is due to them not accepting credit cards and charging $.89 to use mt debit card. $.89 isn't the worst thing in the world, but I have chosen to eat somewhere else if I didn't have cash on me. -

We drove 17 miles because of the good reviews & our craving for some tacos.
THE TACOS HERE ARE GOOD.
The guac is most def one of the best we had. The lettuce and salsa was FRESH and the meat was well seasoned. The carne asada was also pretty nicely cooked, not overcooke like some cheap taco places (my boyfriend is very picky with meat and fresh quac).
The place is a bit small but the staff is super friendly & they'll basically make your food just how you want it even if you substitute buncha things.
I would definitely be visiting again soon. -

I've been searching for authentic Mexican food. This just may be the place!
I stared at the menu, trying to decide between my favorites: taquitos, taco salad, or a machaca combo plate. The burrito won out.
Machaca Burrito :)
I love the mix of flavors in a machaca. Shredded beef, scrambled eggs, bell peppers, onions in a flour tortilla. Plus I shoveled everything else on my plate--rice, beans and their generous portion of guacamole in too. Tortilla was just a tiny bit chewy, and I wish they'd given me 2 tortillas instead of 1 since there was enough of the filling to make a 2nd burrito.
Staff :)
Very friendly, especially the guy who brings the food to your table.
Bottom line:
Yumyumyum! I'm definitely going back for more, to try their taquitos and taco salad and eventually everything else.

I have gone though the drive thru at least 7 times in the last 3 months. They got at least one item wrong 5 out of 7 times. Because these are not 89 cent burrtitos I got P.O.'d. My wife called the manager. He said, I'll give you 2 free burritoes. When I walked in, I asked for the manager, that doesnt exit. "By the way the guy smiled when I asked for the manager" He is not here.....I told the guy at the counter, my compliant and they still got it wrong..........I want a carna asda burrito with beans and cheese thats it ...........get it I have got all rice, all meat , any thing but what I asked for
buy the way.....as I sit in the the drive thru window, I watch a girl get a BIG drink out of water battle and then take out a banna and stickit in her mouth as the guys made jokes.....keep in mind,,,I am at the window and see all this......Iam done -

Although you may want to be sure you have health insurance before ordering, the Breakfast Burrito is by far the best you will ever find. They manage to put the PERFECT combination of ingredients (none of that "beans all in one place" crap).
The breakfast burrito is 5 bucks and it's served all day long, so you really don't have any excuses. It's totally sharable (get it cut in half) - and throw in some chips and guacamole for good measure.
There's nothing cliche at all about my five star rating... people I know that have had it literally ask me the next time we can get down to Fullerton to get some of that sweet Pepe's nectar.
Don't think twice. Get one. -

Ok let me just preface this by saying, if you are a health conscious vegetarian goofball dont read any further.
If you dont mind a lil grease (the flavoring in a nice place [read hole in the wall] like this) or other intangibles that would make the hoity toity stick their noses up, get your butt over here.
They make some outstanding burritos and tacos. I havent tried anything else so I cant say if anything else is good or not. However these bad boys are overstuffed with delicious numnums. The tacos look about 2" higher due to all the cheese and lettuce they put in with a generous portion of meat. The burritos look like they can burst at the seam as soon as you lift it to your mouth.
Even though I love the taste of the grease, it is occasionally a bit too much for me hence the 4 not 5 stars. Regardless, this is one of my favorite lil taco joints that never disappoints.
The one other negative is its cash or debit card only and an extra charge for debit card usage! SO BRING CASH!
I wish I was eating there right now I must say and I am suddenly hungry right now :\ but lunch is 2 hours away and I may just wind up here today :D
This place just makes me want to *CHOMP*CHOMP*CHOMP* while going NOMNOMNOMNOMNOM!!! -

Everyone I know loves Pepe's. I can take it or leave it. I think that because I'm not really a burrito person, I can't fully enjoy the fruits of Pepe's labors.
I've had their chile relleno plate because, well, I'm obsessed with chile relleno and I have to get it at every Mexican restaurant I go to. I wasn't wowed. The sauce, although pork laden, didn't taste like much. It basically tasted like salt, pepper, and chicken broth. It looked more complicated than it tasted. The chips that came with the plate were fried well and fresh, but overly salted. Everything just tasted like salt.
On the brighter side, I loved their fresh (I think) tortillas and their guac is reallly good. -

We've been coming for quite some time to this location. What I enjoy the most is the shredded beef burritos. They're huge, enough for 1 if you eat a lot or 2 if you don't eat so much. They're chicken soft taco is also great. The husband likes the plates which comes with rice, beans and tortilla chips. Now that I work close to here again, I will definitely coming back again and again.
Also the prices are very reasonable. -

I got the carne asada burrito here. It's super salty and dry. The meat has the texture of pork and not steak. Just for some laughs, I tried to return mine but they wouldn't take it back. Oh well worth a shot. First and last time here.

I have lived next to Pepe's for about 7 months now and I had yet to try it, I would always pass by it driving down Placentia and my inner bean would get tempted to pull over and try it. But I would never succumb to her gardener-like English words of wisdom-my inner bean is indeed a muchacha.
Then last month before work I decided to venture into this to have a taste of the "Finest Mexican Food."
It is such a fine establishment that even flies are attracted to it! If you have that much popularity that you can lure soulless Ulyssean insects to crash into your burrito with your siren songs, then you do deserve their self proclaimed title.
But this visit didn't stand out much and I ate half of a carne asada burrito then ate the other half later on at night, both times feeling like I had just consumed 4 baby armadillos wrapped in a flour tortilla.
If I were to base my review solely on this visit then Pepe's would only get 2 stars.
But alas! Him and I are star-crossed lovers and the stars had to have it their way and somehow make our paths cross again. It is strange how God works really, I was given a half of a breakfast burrito and due to Ethiopianesque hunger I began to instantly devour it, not even concerned as to the origins of this monstrous creation. So there I was, mouth filled with bacon meat, white goo, brown goo, whole potatoes, just trying to let out words but only generating more saliva.
Then the swallow...and what a swallow to be had, it awoke the tastebuds in my esophagus that have been dormant since the great fire.
This breakfast burrito had my pupils shaped like hearts, my heart pounding and shaped like pupils, my stomach making uncomfortable noises but it wasn't out of discomfort, it was out of love. This is what my mother spoke of when she said one day I will find the one. This is what the bible means when it says:
"...if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?..."
-Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Anyway, after my brief ascension into heaven, I asked "where has this burritoth that thou has broughtest cometh from my brother?"
My brother then said "Pepe's!"
And we both grew halos, and from our backs sprouted golden wings...

Pretty decent but definitely not the best Mexican food that I've had before.
Since I was craving Mexican food after talking about carne asada fries during my trip in Asia for a whole month, I wanted to get some when I got back. We came here because my friend suggested it.
Even though they didn't have the carne asada fries that I wanted, I still got a carne asada burrito to kind of quell that craving. It was pretty decent. I won't say that it was amazing because it wasn't. It was decent. The burrito was HUGE though. I couldn't finish and I was super hungry.
You can get the green salsa and it's SUPER GOOD. I guess next time I'll have to choose the breakfast burrito which is what my friend got and he seemed to really like it.Comment from Laurenzo R. of Pepe's Finest Mexican Food 6/30/2011

How do we say this....AMAZING! We have been coming here for years!!! We will drive all over OC to make it to this location. The red hot sauce, is perfect on everything. The green hot sauce is great on breakfast items. Chili cheese fries are melt in your mouth worthy and the beef tacos are a favorite! Breakfast burritos are huge and filling...the girls at my work stop on Saturday morning before heading into the salon all the way in Lake Forest just to grab burritos for the salon!! That is how dedicated everyone who tries this place is. A must try, the Brea location is good but the Placentia spot is just so yummy.

I only come here to get the California burrito. Interesting enough, if you go to the Pepe's in Brea, their Cali burrito is not the same. This Pepe's is far more superior since they have guacamole and pico de gallo in it. If you can finish it, you'll feel like a champ all day.

The breakfast burrito of God's and men! Also, great cheeseburgers and french fries (which may seem odd for a Mexican restaurant, but go with it...).
I really enjoy Pepe's. When I lived in the area and any time I go back this is on my "must eat" list and I have to grab a couple of breakfast burritos during my time there (on separate days, I'm not man enough to handle two of these bad boys).
The service is always average and the place is clean enough, it's definitely not pretentious. The breakfast burritos which continually bring me back are loaded (they have some meat options) with potatoes, beans, egg, pico... and they're HUGE. I highly recommend asking for the hot sauce as well as this just puts it over the top.
I'm prevented from giving 5-stars due to the average service and I find the rest of the menu to be just okay, but the items I specifically mentioned are so good they carry the load for this establishment. -

They have the best Carna Asada fries ever!!!! They serve it in a huge portion too....enough for atleast 3 people!
The actual resturant looks a little old, but the food they serve inside makes up for it!
I love that they have a drive through usally little Mexican spots don't have one. -

The sign said it was the home of the Famous Breakfast Burrito, so I went in there and ordered one. It was ready for me by the time I found an extra bottle of Tapatio for my table. I was hungry so I was happy about that. I bit into it and it all made sense. It was barely warm. They had a burrito on deck and I was the sap that ordered it. I didn't say anything because I was really hungry and I'm gross. It was alright but I think the breakfast burrito from Bravo Burger is better.

Ordered a been and cheese burrito that was ok, and a side of rice that was disgusting. Had just two bites of the rice and I had to chuck it out. My wife had some hard beef tacos that looked nice and had loads of cheese, diced tomatoes and lettuce. She said that the beef was under seasoned, but that for the cost, it was not too bad.

Huge burritos and portions for great prices.
Their burritos are literally the size of my forearm. The tacos are a bargain at $3 since they are so ridiculously huge. Their nachos are delicious too. Also, they're open until 11pm on most nights AND has a drive thru, so it's perfect for those lazy nights where you're craving some good Mexican food.
If Pepe's was closer to me I would literally go literally 3 times a week, but sadly (thankfully for my scale) it's 15 minutes away.
FYI vegetarians beware, they make everything with lard. Kind of gross, but that's why it all tastes good I guess -
Review from Tricia E.
My husband wanted to try this place after reading in the OC Register that Pepe's was voted as having the best burrito in Orange County.
Pepe's has great casual atmosphere. It's a bit of a throwback, which I like. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained. The employees are very friendly. The food we ordered was prepared quickly.
We each ordered the Combo burrito with carne asada. To be honest, I thought the burrito was all right, but I don't think it lived up to the "best burrito" hype. The burritos are gigantic, almost overwhelming. I would say the burrito I ordered easily weighed five pounds. But I felt like the carne asada was dry and lacking in flavor. It was a big but boring burrito. I could barely eat half the burrito and threw the rest away. I didn't see the point in taking it home, it just wasn't too tasty.
Likewise, my husband also found the burrito to be disappointing. He ordered a taco with the works, thought it was much better than the much-hyped burrito.
We also ordered chips and guacamole. The guac is INSANELY good, super fresh and amazing texture. The best part of the meal was the guacamole.
In sum, Pepe's is A-OK. If you are in the area, it's just fine for lunch or dinner. There's a drive-thru window, in case you feel like grabbing dinner in your PJs. -

The epic breakfast burrito was the stuff dreams are made of. A life-alter-er. And I've said this before but I mean it: a game changer.
My 20-odd year hunt for the best breakfast burrito has come to an end. And that end, my friends, was right under my nose, quite literally down the street from me, at Pepe's.
For a little over 5 bucks, I sunk my teeth into the most bi-winning breakfast burrito that has ever been created...a burrito so legendary, even Charlie Sheen himself would be shaking in his boots saying "Naw man, now THAT is some crazy ish!" Crispy chopped bacon, fresh salsa, potatoes, beans, cheese, and a healthy dose of egg all combine into the largest and yet most delectable breakfast burrito the world has ever known. Some say that flavors dance in your mouth. This was more like a stomp competition on crack. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that every one of my tastebuds had an individual orgasm. If there's a such thing as culinary porn, this burrito is Jenna Jameson.
Thank you, Pepe's. There have been some momentous occasions in history, Einstein's discovery of the theory of relativity, DaVinci's painting of the Mona Lisa, the first man on the moon... but your burrito just may top them all. -

I decided to check out this place one evening before class -- it's close to campus.
Price:
I bought the 2 cheese enchiladas combo with a drink which came to about $9.
Food:
The portions of rice and beans was minimal, and the cheese enchiladas was so greasy my plate was slick with it. Kind of gross. The Spanish rice was a bit on the dry side, but good. The beans were good.
Location:
Was relatively clean, though not spic and span. Bathroom was alright too.
Overall:
So, while a place that seems OK, for the $9, I could have gotten better quality food, at bigger portions, at Chipolite a few blocks away.
Suffice to say, I wouldn't go back here again. -

Big ass food! Hot DAMN!
The combo burrito i had was dripping with beans and asada.. Yum. It's a little bummer that I had to pay extra for cheese. Doesn't cheese belong in everything Mexican???
Shredded beef taco, was off the hook good. The meat was so juicy and tender, my mouth is watering as I write this thing.
Chicken tacos are sickly huge. My daughter thought she could take down two, and the first one stuffed her!
Taquitos were served with GENEROUS portions of guacamole, and their guac ROCKS!
Not a 5-star for me, because I wouldn't drive to Irvine, just to eat there. But it ranks high and it gives me a reason to detour off the 57-fwy to savor this spot. -

I've never physically been here so I can't comment on the atmosphere or service, but I've had their food to-go a few times and all I can say is yuuuuum. I absolutely HATE (*echo* hate, hate, hate...) cilantro and this is one of the few Mexican places that doesn't incorporate every g-damn thing with that evil herb (please don't hate).
I like variety so I usually get their combos. I recently had combo #10 - one chile rellenos and crisy beef taco with rice, beans, chips, and guacamole. I'm also not fond of beans (I'm really not that picky, honestly), but here they blend it with melted cheese and if I mix it with the green meat sauce that comes with the rice, I can eat it all. The chile rellenos had just the right amount of hotness (for someone who is sensitive to spicy food) and the taco was fresh. Pretty much the entire combo meal was good. From past meals, I do think their enchiladas are a bit salty and their taquitos greasy, but I'm definitely a fan. -

Oh, Pepe's, you have got so much money out of me through the years!!!! First Troy, then Cal State Fullerton and now Western State and not only that, but you're halfway between my boyfriend's house and my home. And to top even that, you've got the only burritos that my Russian parents will eat with a smile--the peppery and garlicky all meat carne asada burritos with extra fresh salsa.
Some favorites:
(1) the chilli cheese fries...add fresh salsa but don't DARE get the large unless you're eating with 5 people.
(2) any of the all meat burritos, but carne asada in particular
(3) good ole plain bean and cheese, but once again, with the fresh salsa.
(4) breakfast burrito...so many students in Fullerton survive on this stuff through the day. you can eat half in the morning and the other half when the sun goes down.
The only thing I hate is the fact that the prices that are creeping up. This place does sooo much business, especially ever since Yelp itself has gotten big. Pepe's, can't you keep at least a few items in the low-budget scheme of things? Gracias!!!! -

This is pure unadulterated comfort food, and I've come here after many a class whether I'm in a celebratory mood or just rumbly in the tumbly.
A simple bean and cheese burrito can be enough to tide me over, but lately I've been getting the Green Chili Pork burrito with beans and extra cheese. My mouth is salivating like a Pavlovian pooch's just thinking about it. It's mostly liquid and it drips A LOT, but it's oh soo good.
If you're looking for a bargain, the tacos are a little under $3, and they pile on so much meat you have one of those, "Where's the tortilla?" moments when you unwrap it. Seriously, one will do it.
Pepe's has a very unique flavor and you'll find yourself lapping it up as it runs through your fingers and down your wrist. Among these is their green pork sauce. It's all over the rice, the nachos, nacho fries, and other menu items, and honestly, it's tasty stuff (DEFINITELY NOT FOR DIETERS).
I love this place. I grew up going to the one in Downey, but this one is near and dear to my refried bean-clogged heart.Listed in: The Titan Survival Guide

I love Pepe's.
If you don't love Pepe's you, better fucking shut up, because you don't know anything, and people shouldn't hear anything that you have to say about anything. I eat the carne asada burrito, with beans and cheese, salsa, and guacamole inside, a side of sour cream and chips, with cups of that green and red sauce. FUCK! I'm in heaven. You go ahead and try this, and if you come back saying you don't like it... you probably grew up eating rocks and little pieces of plastic and whatnot, and I feel bad for your situation and stuff, but, as a humans we need food, and this is a good place to get some. I also recommend the bacon breakfast burrito. Yum
