1 review for Peoria Public Library
Full disclosure: I began volunteering here in 1999 and was later employed as a page. I have only been involved with this library as a patron since 2002.
The Peoria Public Library is your basic suburban library. It's well organized and contains the fundamental items that one would expect. Due to the proximity to Sun City, space is devoted to large print texts and reading materials that appeal to seniors.
The children's section is colorful and fun. Story time and other regular activities are scheduled and frequently separated by age brackets. There's a good selection of children's books and the librarians are always willing to help locate materials.
The recent combination of reference material is a bit confusing. Rather than having a separate reference section, non-circulating books have been integrated into the regular non-fiction area. The sticker on the side indicating "Reference" is your only warning that it must stay in the building.
The building is in the city municipal complex built in the early 1990's and the architecture is uninspiring. There's a parking lot available on the east side of the building and a small parking garage on the west side. In order to make it to the building, one must take a brief stroll through a curvy sidewalk, making it slightly difficult for the elderly and handicapped.
As a part of the county library system, it is free for all citizens of Maricopa County. The limitations of this are apparent, particularly when compared against the nearby flourishing Glendale taxpayer funded City of Glendale library system.
