This was the second to last stop on our team off site which was a theme of "The Best of San Diego" and this place was known to have the best view of the San Diego Skyline. After seeing the view, I would have to agree. The drinks and appetizers were great and I could see how somebody could spend all day there and never leave. Granted you might fall into the ocean after drinking too much.
I came here with my friend's family to celebrate her graduating. There were 7 of us for dinner, and we made reservations. We definitely had trouble reading the menus because it was so dim, but we managed.
To start, we shared the calamari, seared ahi tuna, and crab cake. The crab cake was AMAZING.. so moist and soft. The calamari was also really good.. not chewy like most restaurants. And the tuna was also very good--i'm not a big fan of seared (raw) fish, but this was pretty darn good. I also ordered a lemon drop, which was pretty strong. For my main course I ordered the crab stuffed tilapia. IT WAS SOOO GOOD. I guess you can't go wrong with crab at this place. The tilapia itself was flakey, a little dry.. but the crab meat inside was delicious. For dessert we got the lava cake which was really good. I don't really care for lava cake in general because I don't think it's anything that special (chocolate cake with warm chocolate sauce) but this one was pretty tasty.
Our waitress was a little slow at times but she was really nice.
Overall, I'd definitely go back.

I'm biased. I waited tables and bartended there for four years. Four very long, alcohol induced years. That place drove me to drink. So, I'll try to be as honest and objective as possible.
the Coconut Crunchy Shrimp: average
the Mahi-Mahi: pretty tasty
the Prime Rib: really pretty good- get the end cut if possible.
the Sushi: I've been eating it for years. Their sashimi is delicious, the rolls are pretty dang sweet BUT READ THIS- I've been there the past two times. And the past two times I ate sushi, I immediately was affected by it (let's not go into details, but yeah I got sick)
the View: pretty dang spectacular
the Service: meh. it's supposed to be fine dining, but the waiters are too overloaded to give great service
the Bar Menu: pretty extensive, martinis are big and yummy, wine list is at about 100 (give or take a few)
the Price: High end of moderate, but yer payin' for the view, definitely not the food
The restaurant is a destination point, filled to the brim with tourists on weekends, so make a reservation. Weeknights are best, and I recommend sitting outside since tables sit alongside the bay. If you can eat later, make sure you're there around 9PM- you'll catch a fantastic fireworks show from Seaworld.

We went out last night for restaurant week. Everything was great. The menu was perfect. We had some great cocktials. I really like the Peohes view. They are so corporate there and our server was nice, but not overbearing which was good. The hostesses were friendly and all in all a wonderful experience.
I've been here about 5 times and although it's been a few months since my last visit I must say I'm Always please with everything there.
Inside is beautiful with a nice view of the water if you like by the window. The food is delicious and the service is good.
They do take reservations and I would recommend that.
I've never had a problem or tough time calling and placing a reservation.
Each time I come here it's been with family and everyone is ALWAYS happy and full.
Thank You
Came here with my boyfriend for our anniversary and we LOVED it. We started with the shrimp cocktail which had a little too much horseradish for me but the jumbo shrimp and lots of chunks of shrimp in the sauce made up for it. I had the prime rib and it was delicious! Overall the food was great. Not to mention the view of the bay is gorgeous! We will definitely be coming back here again.
Some of the most delightful sushi I've had! Boyfriend and I showed up on Coronado's prom night or something, so the dining room was full. We were happy to eat in the lounge, however, and while the chairs were way too low compared to the table, the atmosphere was charming and the service was fine. Get the Spicy Thai roll and the Surf and Turf roll. Mmm mmm mmm.

Won't overindulge - just will say how AMAZING I found Peohe's!
Came here to celebrate my cousin's graduation from law school - wanted something memorable/special. I think this fit the bill! The view of downtown across the water was beautiful! The interior was lovely, a bit dark to read menus, but the booth set-up was so intimate! And the food - oh man - there wasn't a bad thing on our table the whole night. We split the pu-pu platter as a table appetizer - good for 6 persons max I'd say. All of the dishes were pretty original and yummy - but the one I was most impressed by was my aunt's banana halibut...seriously like eating breakfast/dessert for dinner!
This was definitely a nice place for a special occasion - would also be cute for a date or something like that, especially with the view.

listen to kimberly m. ... her description seems pretty accurate.
tonight has been my only experience there, thanks to restaurant week. obvi, restaurant week prices made life just that much brighter. otherwise, service was good (coulda been better) and the specialty drink we ordered was impressive. (If you're into ostentatious drinks that also happen to taste great, get a Volcano!)
the highlight was dessert. we each had No Ka Oi (Hawaiian translation: "The Best") - Macadamia nut ice cream pie in a chocolate cookie crust with bittersweet chocolate sauce. next time, i'll be sure to order some coffee with it, though, and share between two people since it's kinda sweet and a bit much for one person.
3.5- the extra half star is for the view.
It was my birthday yesterday, and based on a number of yelper recommendations, we decided to go to Peohe's. I had heard that the view is exquisite, but reading up on the reviews there seemed to be differing views on the food and service.
I made reservations for 4 for 8pm on Wed. and we were seated just slightly after our reserved time (no big whoop). As we walked through the place, the decor seemed very Vegas Hotel lobby-esque. Don't get me wrong it looked nice, but almost in a cheesy kind of way. Initially they tried to sit us at a booth, but we opted for the tables on the floor near the windows.
After we were seated, there was about a 5 minute lag before a server showed up. The accoustics on the floor was weird, because even though our server was standing right next to us, we were having trouble hearing him (it was only my 28th b-day, so I'm not that old:-P).
Along with our drink order, we rocked the pu pu platter which came with- 3 coconout shrimp, 2 shrimp cocktail, 3 onion rings, 2 spring rolls, 2 filet skewers, and a partridge in a pear tree... ok, there was no partridge, but you get the idea. I can't say it was earth shatteringly good, but it wasn't bad by any means either. I don't think I'd get it again for $25.
For dinner, we all tried something different. My wife got the seafood grill trio, my sister the chilean sea bass, my bro in law got some hawaiin fish, and I got the prime rib. My wife liked her grilled trio- she especially like the scallops. My bro in law didn't seem to have any complaints, and my sister wasn't too impressed by the sea bass. My prime rib too was just "ok."
For dessert, we closed with their godiva chocolate lava cake. It takes 30 minutes to make, so we ordered it before dinner was served. Much like the rest of the meal, it was good, but not great. Chocolate lovers will enjoy this.
The good- it had a nice view, and our server was pretty attentive
The bad- I don't know what the deal was, but I felt like all of our food was served to us luke warm (appetizer, entrees, and all)
The ugly- trying to find this place our GPS told us to turn one parking lot too early, so we were walking around trying to find this place for 10 minutes or so. Damn you Garmin!
Overall- I guess "beautiful view" is code for so-so food. This seems to be the norm of many SD/Coronado restaurants- focus on the ambience, and less on the food. For $230 for drinks, appetizers and dessert, I think we can find a better place than this. I doubt we'll come back anytime soon.

Just ate here for the second time tonight. This place always holds some sentimental value for us as it is where I proposed to my (now) wife two and a half years ago. I remember it being great then, but the food was really not the main interest. The view, the romance (dim lighting) and privacy, despite our seemingly close proximity to other tables was perfect for the occasion. However, tonight was different as we celebrated our second anniversary.
First of all, they were very cool about getting us a table right by the window with a perfect view. The dim lighting made a very nice mood. I dropped off a gift earlier, which they tastefully set on the table upon our arrival so it was waiting. Anyhow, back to the food. We decided to order lots of sushi this evening and were happy we did. We actually started with the Lobster Bisque, which was very good. Thick, rich, flavorful broth with nice chunks of lobster. It was a bit on the filling side, but very tasty.
The sushi was one of many highlights of this meal. We ordered the Spicy Thai Roll (I think). It was an amazing salmon in thai chili sauce topped with hamachi and a yuzu citrus sauce. Amazing flavor combos with such fresh fish! I was very impressed. We also ordered the Rainbow Roll. This one stood out from just about every other one that we've ordered because it came with a "Lobster California Roll" on the inside. The flavor was just so different as it was a sort of lobster salad with avocado. I loved this roll! All of the fish on the top was amazingly fresh, but of course the Hamachi was my fave! Finally, we ordered the Hamachi and Jalapeno Roll. This roll was inexpensive and very impressive for a simple roll. The Jalapeno was not as hot as I would have liked due to the lack of seeds included, but I think it pleased the other 99% of the population that prefers less spicy food than myself. In sum, the sushi was very impressive, and we love to eat a lot of sushi. The prices for the sushi are very reasonable compared to even some of the cheaper places in san diego and you can't beat the atmosphere. so if you're on a budget, check out the sushi bar.
Finally, we ordered the Maui Style Mahi Mahi with stir fried vegetables. Cooked, plated, and seasoned perfectly. However, we were so full by the time that it arrived that I only had about two bites before boxing it up. What I tasted was a very flavorful fish that was cooked to highlight the natural flavor of the fish rather than masking it with powerful sauces. It was very impressive and the vegetables were to die for. Further comment will require eating my leftovers, so unless otherwise noted, assume that this dish was also amazing.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. The view is awesome and the food is great. I always order the Coconut Crunchy Shrimp with the rice pilaf. Very delicious! And to drink I order the Peohe's Volcano. It comes in a huge glass puffing white smoke from the middle (it's really dry ice). It's a drink meant to share. If I'm going for dinner, I always make reservations. The service is great too. I've never had any problems.

We didn't expect to give Peohe's only two stars. We're both born and raised in San Diego, and Peohe's reputation for fine dining in San Diego precedes it. So when we went there to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, we were really looking forward to experiencing Peohe's.
First of all, the view -is- incredible. It's views like that that make us even more thankful to live here. A window table was requested, but they put us in a nice booth. That was nice, however, we probably would have preferred a table right by the window. We have to agree with previous yelpers that the decor was way outdated, and sitting by a window would have allowed us to ignore this. :)
Our servers were nice and thorough in answering our questions about the menu. We chose the ahi spring rolls to start--these are very good, with a little kick from the wasabi sauce. Would've liked a little more ahi in the dish, but overall it was still really good. For entrees we had the Hawaiian ono and the mixed seafood grill. Under a creamy sauce, the ono was moist and tender, but the sauce was too much. Bonus points for using crab instead of "krab," but a little less sauce would have probably allowed the fish to really stand out. The seafood mixed grill was disappointing. The whole platter was doused in a lemon butter sauce, and while the scallops were nice, the shrimp and piece of salmon included were both dry.
Peohe's probably deserves a second chance, but it will be a while before we get back. Neither the food nor the ambiance seemed to live up to its reputation.

3.5 stars- Excellent view for a Romantic Date; Ok Seafood
Over the last several months, my husband and I have made many a trip here and to the other Chart House restaurants (yes, it is the same). We've enjoyed the restaurant each time- great service, fresh food, wonderful view. But for me, it just doesn't have that "wow" factor. Don't get me wrong- it's a great place to go, but if you look around, most people are celebrating some kind of occasion-- it's not pulling people back on a regular basis because of fantastic food. I think it's a great place to create a memorable lunch/dinner with family/friends, but not a place that leaves you thinking "Wow- that was an incredible meal!"
On one of our last visits, we sat at the sushi bar and had sushi for our meal, instead of the traditional fish dishes. This was one of the best meals we had there (without the view!). We also tried the banana gelato-- very yummy!
So I would recommend this as a "take your out-of-town guests here" restaurant. Or impress a date.... :-)
I absolutely LOVE Peohe's. I love the tropical atmosphere, the stunning view of San Diego Bay and the downtown skyline, the delicious Mai Tai's and sushi bar and seafood! Everything is always fantastic! I like the surf and turf sushi roll which is a lobster roll with thin slice of steak on top...yummm! Macademia nut crusted halibut with bananas and frangelico is one of my faves. Crab stuffed tilapia...I could go on and on! I had to review Peohe's because of the bad reviews I see on here, and I can't believe it!!! 5 stars for Peohe's...everytime!
Good location, food that i'd describe as 'comme ci comme ca' ---the only thing i remember from french class! but very dated decor...the good part is i took my secretaries there for lunch (their choice) and they were happy with it...i saw that they have a sushi bar with absolutely no view...and the view is the only thing they have working for them!

Scrumptious. Really though. It's one of the best seafood restaurants I've been to. SO FANCY it is. Donning flipflops and shorts, my friends and I thought we'd be turned away for lunch, but they were gracious enough. HAHAH Thank goodness because the food was delicious. Crab/avocado/mango app blended great flavors. I had crab stuffed tilapia, it was cooked perfectly. All my friends dishes were amazing. Prices are steep but pretty worth it. The place overlooks the water and San Diego skyline. Nice atmosphere (although the interior design borderlines tacky), super stiff, proper, but polite staff (you can tell they've rehearsed their lines many times). We didn't get to try their Godiva dessert but DAMN it looked SO GOOD!
Minus 1 star because there was a pigeon walking around the dining area, eating the crumbs at our feet.

AVOID. The putrid service here negates any potential for greatness.
My sweet thing made us reservations here for our anniversary a few weeks in advance. We got dressed up and ready for a rare night of extravagance.
We get there, they've lost our reservation, they suggest we never even had one, my man is rather irate, I'm starving, we get seated after an hour and a half (you can only make googly eyes at each other for so long before your gag reflex kicks in anyway), and promptly ask for a manager.
The manager comes (after 20 minutes of waiting...with nary a water glass...loverboy had to go up to the bar to aquire us drinks) he says these things do happen. No apology or compensation of any sort - no comped drink, no free dessert, no dignity. Good thing we were young kids in love, or things could have got ugly.
Love the view? Take the ferry and walk on the boardwalk.

My parents and I had a fantastic experience here after searching for some new restaurants to try in San Diego. I got a fantastic crab stuffed halibut that was extremely juicy and bursting with flavor. My mom's salad (which I got to take a bite of) was extremely delicious without being smothered in a heavy dressing. The service was great and they even moved us to a window-side table when my dad asked. Fantastic!

I've been going here for years now, and I've never been disappointed.
I love their flowing "river" inside by the booths (my favorite booth is #9!). Their food is tasty, along w/ their desserts. Along the years, I've occasionally received some not so perfect service, but it never took away from the overall magic of the place.

While most of the menu is uninspiring, I am basing my 4*'s on the prime rib. This is the best prime rib I've had in San Diego. If you ask for it medium-rare, it comes out medium rare and the horseradish sauce it comes with is exquisite. The service is excellent and the view (if you can get it) is great.
my brothers wife chose this place for us to take my mom for mothers day dinner. we had a reservation for 7 and we sat by the windows on the water. they have a beautiful view, it kinda makes the place special. the service was great and the food very good. they have a huge selection of sea food, and it is all high end. the place is very pricey but i guess thats fine for special occasions. over all we had a good time and my mom enjoyed herself and had a good dinner. i am taking away one star just because they don't have a lot of vegetarian options, i am a vegetarian, the others were not, so for them it was better. but it was ok, i still had a salad and some cucumber rolls.

This is one of my favorite places in San Diego. The view is insane and the food is so yummy. I am a big fan of seared ahi, so that is what I always order. I've never had a bad experience. My husband and I usually dine here for our anniversary or birthday celebrations. The service is great too.
I have dined here many, many, many times. It was always one of my favorite places to eat. The view can not be beat. The restaurant itself does need a face lift. The service is okay.
Let's talk food...This is the first place that I had Coconut Fried Shrimp and loved it! I have not found any since, that even comes close, so I have given up on the dish! They do not use a sweetened coconut and that makes all the difference. Their sandwiches are unique and very good. They make a mean Lobster Roll where you get mostly the tail meat. The shaved Prime Rib Sandwich, au jus, is outstanding. The Crab Cake is very good and the Lobster Bisque has been brought to perfection here.
Dine outside when possible.

This place is so romantic! There's a bay view, but even if you don't get a table by the window, the interior is very nice. It's definitely a date place and would be nice for a dressy girl's night out. Peohe's isn't perfect, but the presentation and service are great. I usually order the Halibut Mai'a and love the flavor, but it was on the dry side the last time I had it.

Very mediocre!
The best thing about our dining experience was the view. The appetizers were cold, and bland. The entrees (Ono and Halibut) were average at best. Also disappointing was the service. Our waiter rarely checked on us, took 10 minutes even when I asked if he would refill our drinks.
Even the decor of the restaurant looked dated... like something you'd find in a hotel lobby.
The prices were too high for this mediocrity. I will not return.
I went here many (years and counting) moons ago for Prom. It was soooo good! The atmosphere of the place was really nice, waterfall in the middle of the restaurant.
It's too bad that the view trumps the service and food here. Came here for a bridal luncheon and while the restaurant was only occupied by maybe four tables, it took forever for us to get our food. Exactly one hour from the time we received our appetizers. One hour!!!
Our waiter seemed not to put in too much effort and he even spilled an entire tray of drinks all over us. I understand, accidents occur, but couple that with the hour-long wait for all of our food (just salads and sandwiches) and it was annoying.
The food was super bland, nothing memorable. Stereotypical Asian-fusion offerings like seared tuna and pupu platters. I've had better attempts from Yard House. Yeah, Yard House. Gah!

Outstanding food. Patient and understanding staff with a considerable knowlegdge of the foods and wines on the menu. Extensive wine selection.
We closed the place down (actually stayed a little past the true closing time), but we were never rushed or asked to leave. It's a laid-back establishment where you can dine in you Prada loafers or your Reef flip-flops. Amazing view of the skyline and the bridge at night from across the harbor - great to see planes flying at all hours.
The seafood is top-notch, unmatched by any seafood joint I've visited in San Diego. The prices are higher than most places, but honestly, I've come to appreciate that you pay for what you get, and at Peohe's you get the best!
This is a great place to take a date or to impress your out of town guests. But plan to spend some money. The food here is really good and the atmosphere is just beautiful. I don't eat seafood, so I can comment on that. It's been a while since I've been there but the last time I had their King crab California roll and it was pretty good. I personally haven't had a bad experience there except for on a cold night, it gets pretty cold when you sit in the enclosed patio section. You'll know what I'm talking about if you go there.
I went here with my aunt for mothers day and it was really nice and they sat me by a great view of the ocean . I ordered the crab and asparagus and it was a really good and was nice and fresh .
I went there several months ago for a quarterly business meeting for the first time. I wasn't a member of yelp then and pretty much forgot about the place (tells you something already). My review is colored by the fact that someone else chose the wine selection and we had our choice of three entrees. The view was lovely. We had wine which was mediocre out on the deck in back with a view of the bay. I forget what our three choices for dinner were but I think one was some sort of beef and another was a fish. I chose the fish and it was just average. Though I paid for dinner through my membership dues I was glad I didn't have to look at a bill after the dinner. I doubt I'll go back unless it is on someone else's tab. There's just too many good fish places in San Diego to waste my time at Peohe's. Sorry
Peohe's is such a romantic place! I've read the lesser reviews about equaling the interior to that of a cruise ship, and I'm unable to say differant as I've never been on one yet.... but I think the decor is great.
You're greeted upon entry with a large waterfall thing and lava rocks. The sound of running water is so tranquil and relaxing to my soul. The lighting seems perfect, not too bright, somewhat dimmer for that special romance vibe. The large glass windows sparkle in beauty with the reflection of San Diego's cityscape bouncing from the water less than 50' away. In my opinion, Peohe's was created for couples. It's just a gorgeous setting!!
My wife and I have been to Peohe's 7 or 8 times now, and if it weren't for the long drive from our home we'd definately dine here more often.
Each time, we've parked in San Diego and taken the Ferry over. It's a nice, relaxing 15min ride on a part of history. The ride is an adventure for sure.
The food at Peohe's is uncomparable to anyplace on earth. There's so much to chose from on the menu, that anybody no matter what someone likes or dislikes, they'll be happy here.
I for one always get the Macadamian Nut Crusted Halibut. Just thinking about the mouth-watering taste makes me drool. The size of the Halibut is perfect, definately not small nor is it too big. Cooked to perfection and coated with crushed Macadamian Nuts and drizzled with a sauce that GOD himself may have made.
The management told me that Peohe's was voted one of the "BEST SEAFOOD RESTERAUNT'S IN NORTH AMERICA" and my tastebuds testify that is very accurate.
For dessert we usually treat ourselves (and I do mean TREAT) to the Chocolate Lava Cake. Hot & deliciously moist cake erupting with thick melting chocolate. It's so good that is should be a sin to eat, lol.
As always, I'd like to share an experience here. I can think of one visit in particular that I feel is totally worth mentioning. The service is great and literally caters to any small needs or requests.
We came here for Valentine's Day a few years ago. As we docked a few minutes earlier than our reservation, my wife took a gander at the local gift shop while I "had to go to the bathroom" (went to Peohe's) and told the hostess my needs. When it was time, we sat at the window seating, ordered and ate our appetizers. Then my request was honored.... out came an additional serving tray with it's top still on. Our waitress addressed it to my wife and said "I believe this is yours" and unveiled her Valentine's Day gift. Our waitress was kind enough to even offer her services and help my wife put her new necklace on. At that very moment, I just knew in my heart that the staff at Peohe's really cares about their guests. They HELPED make the night even more special for us.

Peohe's has a great view of the San Diego harbor and looks even more stunning by night's fall. I wish the food could match this amazing view. The interior seemed a bit dated; my guess is early to mid-eighties. The menu was large; and the wine list less so. I ordered a mixed green salad; which could have been much more interesting without a lot of effort. I had the scallops which were fresh and had a sweet reduced hoisin sauce; good not eventful. I needed potatoes so I ordered a side of garlic mashed potatoes. The potatoes desperately needed moisture; more milk, even a bit more butter. Mashed potatoes are not difficult to make and should be any restaurants side par excellence. My visit was an overall disappointment. I had great expectations that weren't even met half way.

Simply put .. the service was terrible. The hostess didn't seem interested in letting the waiting customers know that seats were opening up; we were seated only after we reminded her that we were actually still waiting (right in front of her ..). Our server wasn't much better, either; she didn't take our order until after we waited for awhile, and when we asked questions about the menu items she wasn't very helpful.
And then of course...the food. I ordered a crab-cake sandwich.. which turned out to be something like a cheap crab patty with some sauce between hamburger buns... for a really expensive price. It simply didn't look appetizing at all, and I'm sure I could have gone to the freezer section of Costco and picked up something better. We ended up walking out because we'd already waited for so long for the hostess and waitress to acknowledge our existence .. for something not worth waiting for ....
Overrated in my book, though I do have to give credit for such nice views of the water.

The 3 Stars is due mainly to the food. The waiter that we had and view was great, but service takes long. As for the seafood, the fusion style food could be had at PF Chang's or Cheesecake Factory at half the price.
Do Not Order Any Steaks, Seafood restaurants (especially Peohe's) offer average steaks. Coming from New York, once you've had superb 1st Class 5-Star steaks (Peter Lugar's, BLT, Del Frisco's) you'll laugh at most other places.

I've been here a couple times and it's not the best place in the world. I only recommend the appetizers and the dessert. Try the Calamari and Thai spring rolls appetizer as well as the Hot Chocolate Lava Cake. The Lava cake is covered with hot chocolate syrup, topped with macadamia nuts with a side of ice cream. Delish!
You know, this place didnt leave a lasting impression on me. In fact, it didnt leave any impression. I cant remember why I came here, but it wasnt any special occasion or anything, I tend to eat at these type of place atleast once a week if not more, so I dont care about price as much as service, ambiance, and most importantly, food taste and quality.
While this place wasnt bad, it wasnt good. It was so unforgettable. I dont even think the ambiance was great or the view. It was ok, but there are many other places with a nice view IMO.
Maybe I'll go again when Im down in Coronado visiting my aunt. But as of now, Im in no hurry to go back.

Ok, guys, time to update the decor. I know you spend $50 million or so every two years "remodeling" and "updating" the place, but the seahorses and seashells have got to go. We really have moved on from the 70s.
The food is pretty good. The view of the harbor and downtown SD--very, very good, especially at night. Your distracted server won't be bad, but he or she won't be that good, either. The bar is, unfortunately, located away from the tables and the view, so go for an appetizer and a drink at a table with a view and then go have a real dinner elsewhere.
