Three words: HEATH LAVA CAKE
Wipes drool and rubs belly...
The view = spectacular. We went to lunch a week before Thanksgiving and were able to sit outside with the sun shining on our backs. *I heart you San Diego*
Food = everyone was happy with their lunch items. I got the coconut shrimp w/ fries and broccoli. The coconut shrimp was extra crispy with a sweet plum sauce. The broccoli was overcooked so left it alone.
The prime rib sammich looked small and wasn't that thick, but was liked. The mahi tacos were packed with fresh mango and a good sized piece of fish. The cobb was huge and had a great presentation.
Again, the lava cake, wow. This even beats Roy's lava cake due to the huge chunks of heath all over the plate. Slurrrp!
3 stars for food and 5 for the view. Ok, typical waterfront eatery: high prices, decent decour, average food. Your next "Top Chef" probably isn't coming out of Peohe's. But the view is so gorgeous that I have to rate this high. I know it's arbitrary but I would go back again in a heart beat. Just sitting by the water, seeing downtown shining and having a drink was so nice the last time I went here. There are not many places that you can sit that close to the water and not be freezing or be in a cramped dining room. Peohe's is large and spacious. There was a 15 person party next to us and they didn't even really intrude on our meal. The outside seating has a great ambiance and is sure to make for a really good night. Just don't expect to wowed by the food.
Lousy sushi but that's expected. My fault for ordering it at an American seafood joint.
The only reason i did not give this place 5 star's is the service... everything was perfect .............except the service....are waiter was a Dick..... so when i couldnt find him ... i asked the water boy for help... our waiter was annoyed at this..... like i care!
They need to get better trained waiter's and waitresses
This is the 4th time visting this resteraunt on a date... and the bad service never seem's to fail
I went to this place recently and it's a REAL fancy joint. We got a real nice view of Downtown San Diego. The service was somewhat slow but the food quality was real good. I had a prime rib with mashed potatoes...it felt like i was eatting a million bucks. I also really like how they said "right this way Mr. Griffin"...
REVIEW OF LOUNGE
GREAT Place for date or family. This place is right on the Coronado water facing the bay. The restaurant is about 150 feet from the water, so it's not really "on the water"
ORDER LOBSTER/CRAB spring roll. IT WAS AMAZING. Also had the NINJA ROLL. It was way too spicy even though the waiter warned us, ask for no spice on that one.
Drinks were strong. Ambience was nice as well. Will definitely come back.
I love San Diego... Meeting friends here and for a change of pace he decides to drive all of us out to Coronado for the night... I felt kind of bad.. because he raved about this place..Well, they had lost his reservation.. we waited, because it was a Friday night...
Dinner was decent... I lived on the ocean with fresh seafood. So when on the ocean... I hold seafood restaurants at a pretty high standard! I did love the Halibut with macadamias, bananas, frangelico that is served with rice.. Id highly recommend it.. but my friend had to send back his salmon... Mine had a bit of a 'fishy' and unfresh taste...
The atmosphere..Its dated.. but the view is to die for...
My only experience here was as a child. My family came here after dinner for drinks. They got oysters and lots of booze. They got wasted and were singing. I remember loving life because I got everything I wanted including a HUGE ice cream sundae with yummy fruit on it.
Now that I am older I definately want to come back and enjoy what I couldn't back then
This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. That said...
The seafood isn't the absolute best I've had, but it is pretty darn good. I've tried a good amount of food on the menu, and I would recommend their crab, avocado & mango stack, the crab stuffed tilapia & the lava cake dessert.
Usually, the service here is fantastic, but I went once for brunch with my family (for Mother's Day), and it was a little lack luster unfortunately. Thankfully, we've never had a bad dinner experience.
I love taking guests from out of town to this restaurant for the decent food & spectacular view - it's also great for special occasions.
Priceless views of Americas Finest City....
The Entree that Leaves a stain on my brain:
PEOHE'S HALIBUT MAI'A (Fresh Alaskan Halibut filet with macadamia nuts, bananas, and Frangelico. Served with Wild Rice).
Outstanding Entree. I Love the way the flavors mesh together. The banana's take it to a whole 'nother level. If You Like Fish...I Highly recommend it.
I'll be back for more :)
Now If I could only find me a hot date!
I love this restaurant, i love the drive there, maybe because going across the bridge to Coronado feels like you are on a mini vacation.
Food is so good.
We got ahi Poke= deli-sh!
Also as main entrees we ordered: Halibut Mai, Chilean sea bass and the Mahi Mahi, we all loved our food.
We topped it with the Hot Chocolate Lava cake (shared between 3)
Service was all right since they forgot our salads and forgot to fill our waters and drinks...
The view is amazing!
The carpet not so much.
4 stars
Beautiful view of downtown San Diego. Interesting decor. But it's dark as heck in here - so dim that people sometimes have trouble reading the menu.
Scallops I had were gritty and way too salty. I sent them back and got "new" scallops that were equally salty. So I sent them back again and the waiter sneered, telling me maybe I should order something else. I asked him if the chef had even tasted the scallops, since they were extremely salty. They ended up taking the scallops off the bill, but I still left hungry.
My girl friend brought me and my other girl friend here because we were visiting her in San Diego. Coronado Island, beautiful. For a restaurant that looked like fine dining, the service was just mediocre. When I took a trip to the restroom, I noticed some tables had bread baskets. I inquired to relieve my curiosity and the waitress said bread was complimentary upon request. It was just dinner rolls. We decided to order an appetizer, 2 entrees, and dessert. It was somewhat a perfect amount for us three.
Crab, Avocado & Mango Stack
-layer of crabmeat over a layer of avocado over a layer of mango. DANG, I LOVE CRAB, I LOVE AVOCADO, I LOVE MANGO. Heaven? Almost. It was pretty good. Probably cloud seven point five.
Crab Cake Sandwich
-This was pretty good. Extra fattiness meting in your mouth, so it better be good.
Sesame Crusted Salmon
-This was tasty mostly because of the sauce. But fish is tasty depending on what it's dressed with or how it's made anyways. So props on the flavoring?
We only had one choice for dessert. The Hot Chocolate Lava Cake. They said it takes awhile to prepare it, so we had to order it before we even finished our entrees. A dessert that takes time and effort...hmm...worth ten dollars? We sure had hoped so. It was sweet and delish. Macadamia ice cream with warm chocolate cake.
The atmosphere was casual. The prices were expected due to location and selections on menu (seafood). Yes I would come back.
GEEZ! I forgot what a gem this place is! I was there again on the patio with 8 people a week or so ago. Beautiful views, great service and good food. I have been eating there off and on since 1991 and feel that Peohe's is still hard to beat. If you are a local like me or from outta town you gotta like it.
Manager is Marla. Make sure to ask for her and introduce yourself. Ask for the outside patio on the rail. It's my favorite location. Coconut shrimp is the best in town! Enjoy!
Went to Peohe's. Again,,,,i have also been there maaany times. I really like Peohe's. They may not have the best food in town but the view, ambiance and everything put together, it's a very cool spot. The food is defininitely good, service is decent (really depends on what server you get) They do have a full sushi bar, the sushi is pretty good, not awesome. This time I ordered it and it will probably be the last time I order it there. It's good but not up to my (HIGH!) standards :)
My husband had the scallops with an orange chili sauce which was VERY good! They messed up on the order though and gave him rice instead of the asian veggies it was suppose to come with..but it wasn't a big deal. (the funny thing is that on the menu it comes with veggies, they asked if he wanted rice instead and he said no and they still brought out rice..)
We had a drink in the bar first and they cocktails are pretty expensive. Around $11-12 for a mix drink, it's high for being at a restaurant.
I like sending guests here for the whole experience with taking the ferry over from the hotel and dine at Peohes.
I found this restaurant through http://Yelp.com. We went there for my 2 girlfriend's birthdays. The service was outstanding. The food was really good. The oysters we shared were so fresh and good. All of us had either mahi fish and the sea bass. They were superb. I really enjoyed the food. We sat right in front of the marina. The view was spectacular. I didn't think we would benefit the view in the evening, but we did. It was beautiful. It was a great place for my son to see boats passing by as we were eating. Even though we ordered the chocolate lava cake that everybody talked about on yelp, the restaurant gave us 2 special desserts for the 2 birthday girls. What a nice treat that was! I will definitely come back with my family. One thing thought, it is on the pricier side.
Sat outside. Heater kept us warm.
Food was amazing. Service was very good. View was GREAT.
Made for a great evening.
We had reservations and were seated promptly.
Parking wasn't too bad. The signs for the restaurant from the main road are too small but thats my only complaint. :)
It was one of the more expensive restaurants but if you're on a mini get-away vacation with your friends, it's worth the money. The place was beautiful mostly because of the garden fountain pond inside. I absolutely love fountains, ponds, etc.
I went during finals seasons (in early May for USC students) so I'm guessing that is why it was so empty. It was kinda.. creepy.. a little because it was really quiet. But I kinda liked the quiet for this vacation. It was quite relaxing.
Anywho. the food was delicious.
I forgot what I had but I know it had something to do with fish. :)) I honestly feel like it does not matter what you order.. everything seemed so delicious. The plates that my friends ordered were really good too.
also! if you make reservations they print out new gigantic menus with your name on it. Well, at least the name of the party. For instance, I made the reservations so it said "Welcome, Lee Party." or something like that. I thought it was super cute.
And we wanted to take pictures at the outside balcony seating area. It was closed off but our waiter was willing to open it for us and take pictures of us. HEHE.
So, the restaurant week menu is awesome. A definite recommend.
Slightly less awesome was their reaction after an entire tray of drinks was spilled on me by an errant waiter. Now, maybe I was too low-key b/c I am definitely an "accidents happen" type but when it ends up that I am covered from hair to mid-thigh in someone elses' drinks, it would have been nice if something more than my coffee was comped. I've insulted people's dates and ended up with less alcohol on me so when I'm just sitting there minding my own business, it would have been nice to have a litttle bit better response. But again, in fairness, I didn't make a big deal b/c I didn't want to ruin my good time and my outfit, while nice, was also completely machine washable. I just really hope I don't get pulled over on my way home b/c I reek of alcohol now.
Went here for restaurant week on 09/18/09... I have to stay the food is A+ in my book... good food, outstanding service and great atmosphere, very prompt service, didn't even have to ask for my drink to be refilled... ordered from the restaurant week menu. The wife and I ordered the crab stuffed tilapia, with steamed vegetables... for desert creme brulee... good job on the desert... wife & I plan on returning... Good service deserves good tipping... 30%... Thanks Peohe's.
Great sushi! Don't miss the chili citrus Yellowtail, which is Yellowtail sashimi with a soy yuzu? sauce, thin slices of lemon on top and a little serrano? chili on top of that. Love the crunch roll too. Lobster bisque is good.
THE best thing on the menu is the LAVA CAKE, which is made with good quality chocolate and served with Macadamia nut ice cream. To die for.
If you make advanced reservations, ask to sit in the enclosed patio with a view. A great place to take a date. When you walk to your table, the interior of this place is very interesting. Kind of like being in a tropical cave. Ask for Michael. He is a superstar server.
the first time i dined at peohe's i thought the food was good. the 2nd and 3rd time.. not so much. then again, the first time i had been here, i hadn't had king's fish house, mccormick & schmick, or roy's.
so this review is based on my 2nd and 3rd experience. let's start with the 2nd.
obviously, i liked this place enough that i wanted to go back and so i decided to celebrate my 26th bday here. they have an enclosed patio that has an awesome view of the bay and the sd skyline so when i made my reservation i requested that my party (of 12) be seated in that room. however, the person who took my reservation failed to tell me that you couldn't actually reserve that dining area, but that you could only "request" it upon arrival. so, the night of my birthday dinner, me and 11 other people are waiting to be seated. the waiters tell me that it'll be a moment til our table is ready. thinking they're setting the room up, i take a few of my guests back to the room to show them how nice of a dining experience we're going to have... only to have the manager tell me after 20 mins of waiting that there is no room to seat my party and that we'd have to sit inside.
i
was
pissed.
and i was embarrassed. here i had boasted to all of my guests that we'd have a great view and it turned out we weren't going to. i tried to explain to the manager that the person who took my reservation didn't inform me that it was only by request/only if they had space kinda deal and so he needed to make some sort of accommodation, yet, he continued to argue with me in front of my guests after i refused to be seated inside where he was suggesting we sit. was it the fact that i wasn't dressed in a collared shirt and suit? i mean, he literally tried to belittle me in front of my guests who were about spend A GRIP of money at his restaurant. finally, we came to an agreement to allow my party to be seated on the outdoor patio although it was already closed.
fine, i'll deal with that i thought.
having everyone finally situated and seated, we all ordered our food. the waiter service was really great & attentive... but the food was lacking this time around. was it the fact that i just got into an argument with the manager?! hmm. i heard complaints about steaks being bloody red when ordered medium to medium well and i also heard complaints that the seafood was all over-cooked in general. luckily, i have a group of friends who can make a good time out of anything so despite the food we still enjoyed ourselves. that, however, doesn't change the fact that the food sucked for what we were paying. a party of 12 at an "upscale" seafood restaurant... can you imagine how much they banked that night?!?!
now lets talk about the 3rd time i went here. last year for valentines day, i took my other half over here... even after the bday dinner fiasco. i thought, ehh maybe it was just an off-night. that night, i ordered the steak and shrimp. the service, again, was on point. the waiter checked on us frequently. our glasses were never completely empty. i like that. but then i got my meal and as good as it looked... all of the complaints that i heard 2 yrs prior were confirmed. my steak was bleeding... i like it medium well. my shrimp was over cooked... i could barely peel the skin off. i mean, seriously. for those kinda prices, i expect the food to be cooked well. or is it the nice, fancy decor of the restaurant that i'm paying for?
as a result, i've decided that peohes isn't the business. i'd much rather go to roy's. exactly as yelp says.. meh. i've experienced better.
here's a tip: next time your staff makes a mistake on the reservation for a party of 12, do every thing you can to accommodate the party before trying to talk them down. i would've settled with a "i'll give you 10% off" and sat my ass down anywhere.
Disclosure: I'm not a huge seafood kinda guy. I would not go here again unless it was on a date and she loved seafood.
For my meal, I had the Caribbean Jerk Chicken. It was not spicy enough for my taste, and it was just chicken and potatoes. A veggie dish of some sort would have been nice for the ~$20 it cost. My family members enjoyed their meals, however, which ranged from the whole sea bass (very unappetizing looking, but allegedly good), to the shrimp platter (I had the coconut shrimp, which was quite good).
They have a passion ice tea, and service was good. We went for my Mom's birthday, so we got a free chocolate lava cake, which was one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. I'm not usually crazy for desserts, especially chocolate, but this was intense: ice cream, fudge, melted chocolate, more chocolate. It was definitely the best part of the meal.
As for location, it is hard to beat Peohes. Coronado is beautiful, and really helps with the date aspect - walk around the island before or after. The view, especially if you get a seat on the covered patio, is a panoramic city scape view of downtown, including Petco Park, the Coronado bridge, etc. If you're big into seafood, this would be a great place for special occasions (or any ol' day of the week if you're a baller).
We had a company lunch here and the service was ok...not too attentive. But I love d food! The view is just beautiful if you sit near the pier. But yeah...service was just ok..not too superb. I like the location though.
I would give four stars for sushi bar, but it's unfortunately located inside the restaurant! The sushi is okay, not bad for a local like me who is craving it and needs to get some ASAP. But I definitely would not go out of my way to get it.
My husband and I thought we'd give it a try for dinner, but when we walked in at 6pm they told us the only available seating was at 8pm. We both thought that was interesting since there was nobody in the restaurant (a common sight here). It was a strange enough event that we don't have the desire to return for dinner even though we live a block away.
They have a great view of the bay and will have to trust others reviews about the seafood (other than sushi). The decor looks like something that was considered contemporary in 1960. For such a great location, the inside could use a face lift.
My husband commented that the place made him feel like they were going to put a pirate hat on him with a fake bird on his shoulder, then place a napkin in his collar before our meal - LOL!
Yes, I know. It looks like Dynasty, Dallas and Falcon's Crest had a set sale and Peohe's bought all their props. But look past that.... way past that. Because Peohe's has an amazing view of the ocean. That gets it's own star.
The food at Peohe's is quite tasty. Is it rocket science? No. Is it original? No. Is it a bit pricey for what you get? Yes. Can the service be improved upon? Hellz yeah.
I'll be honest with you. I was excited to come here. It's my Aunt's favourite restaurant and you don't mess with Auntie Lily! However, once I got my order of Crab Stuffed Tilapia, the damn thing was still raw inside. So I sent it back and watched while everyone else ate their food. DAMN.
When I did get a cooked dish, it was really good. Dessert was okay. Service was MEH. Slow and unresponsive even though the restaurant was pretty empty.
Would I come back? Yes. But only if I wasn't paying. Too bad though, the fish was really good.
Tourist trap. Ive only been there 2 times and believe me I'm pretty efficient at pointing out tourists. This place is filled with them.
The food is mediocre although the presentation is decent. I was told that sushi was only available at night. I really didnt want to try it, I just wanted to check out the sushi menu.
The only other time that I went here was a small after work gathering. The general consensus was that the food is ok,the service is ok but the prices are too high.
Star #1 - amazing view of downtown SD. Very romantic if you have dinner while watching the sun set.
Star #2 - sushi rolls are good, especially considering they are not a japanese restaurant.
Star #3 - i know it's seasonable but their SEA BASS melts in your mouth.
Star #4 - i've gotten good service each time i went. friendly staff.
true, their decor is a bit tacky... i feel like i am walking into a late 80s/early 90s setting but it's not distracting at all.
and yes, it is on the pricey side but there's a reason why u only go every now and then or to celebrate an anniversary/birthday...
What the fuck is that SMELL!?
Dude, there must have been a toilet broken or something because as soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted by the warm aroma of feces.
At least they were smart enough to seat us in the back with a skyline view where the smell wasn't as aparent. Once they got us there though, they forgot about us. Hey fucker! I'm HUNGRY! The place is empty, where the fuck did he go? Dont come here in a group of 8+. I know it's normal for a place to add a gratuity for large parties. This place pretty much didn't give a fuck about the service though because they knew a tip was guaranteed.
The food was okay, but nothing special. No one was complimenting it, but no one was complaining.
Bottom line: A bonus star for a great view. This place pretty much blows though.
Had the Chilean Seabass here and Prime Rib. Good stuff. Their coconut shrimp is bombay.
Plus the ambiance of this place is just awesome.
Took my Fiancee here for her birthday and was very disappointed. I had the Chilean Sea Bass which I have had better but wasn't terrible. My Fiancee on the other had ordered the most expensive steak on the menu's most women do), a fancy fillet mignon. We had to send it back 3 times before the chef or bus boy or whoever was running the kitchen got it right. Asked for medium rare and came out well done. Second time it came out over cooked again, third time under cooked and fourth trip to the table it was cooked right. The third time my fiancee told me not to worry about it, but being from the south we fancy a good piece of red meat and if I am spending good money on a fillet then I expect it to be cooked the way it was asked to be cooked.
I will say that the appetizers were good. She had some Firecracker Shrimp and I the surf and Turf roll. The shrimp were good but the Surf and turf roll at Roy's ( located at the Marriott across the bay) is way better.
There is a desert on the menu that needs to be ordered while you are ordering your entrees. It is a chocolate cake with ice cream and what not. IT ROCKS!! It was the best part of the meal. That and the view.
Overall I was disappointed in the whole trip and will probably not be returning. I cant justify $250 on a meal and they cant cook a fillet mignon correctly. Hell I can one on the first try at home and save a ton of cash.
Actually 2.5 stars in my book. I wanted to like the place...granted I've only been here once. I gotta come back to do another review just to be fair.
Came here on Superbowl Sunday for brunch. So not a lot of people other than your typical blue-haired Coronado retirees I guess.
Took a while to get seated. So we decided to mosey over down to the bar and lounge area...Took a while to get the drinks. I liked the apps that we got. Tray of oysters and some other confection which resembled a torte of sorts. It was a type of dip which had crab meat, mango, salsa. After what seemed a long time, we were finally seated.
The view was amazing. Can't argue with it. Brunch was still being served if requested. It was after 1:00 PM. I opted for the Crab and Cheese Omelet with fresh fruit and breakfast potatoes. Other items that were ordered by my friends included a poached eggs Benedict topped with Salmon, Tilapia dish, and a Mahi Mahi dish with banana topping.
As usual, me and the friends did our round the table tasting. The group consensus was that the fish dish with banana topping was peculiar at best. The banana taste was too overpowering. I was reminded by my friends that if anything, the topping is supposed to enhance not overpower. Mimosas were flowing....I think we ordered a total of 12. Now here's the thing...I though that the Mimosas were endless... I was wrong. My fruit was a little sour as well.
Service was meh. Nothing spectacular....Speed of service was a bit slow. There's ample parking in the lot, but I'd recommend taking the ferry over. Peohe's is just a short distance from the dock.
Overall, ok place I guess.....nothing to write home about....
Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The pomegranate mojito was perfect. Also, the shrimp cocktail app was to die for! It was spicy and the sauce was filled with little shrimp underneath.
The patio seating was nice, because we could hear the band that was playing and had a view of the water. They have a really nice large patio with a great view of the water and downtown across the way.
It was a pretty upscale place, but it seemed people were dressed across the spectrum. Some in swimsuits with cover ups and some dressed for a wedding.
It was perfect for our romantic day trip.
I've been coming here for years. I've never had a GREAT meal but I have never had a bad one either. The decor is a bit hokey and the place has a feel/ smell of just being dated. Especially if they sit you in the back room near the kitchen entrance.
You can't beat the view though! Best view in San Diego!
There are 3 reasons to go to Peohes:
1. Chocolate Lava or Melting Cake. Do not miss. Ever.
Miss this and your dinner might as well be a 2 star experience
2. Surf and Turf Sushi Roll.
Lobster Roll with Seared Filet Mignon? Are you kidding?
I never ever miss coming here when I am in San Diego. Period. Just for this item and item #1.
3. Crab Stuffed Tilapia.
One of the local waitresses at another restaurant told us when she goes to Peohes, this is what she gets. It is now my number 1 dinner item.
The view from Coronado is great, its easy to find parking. The restaurant has a new feel about it.
Still get the Melting Lava Cake and the Surf and Turf Sushi Roll or your meal is incomplete.
We went to Peohe's for our 10 year wedding anniversary this past Saturday night. I should say we didn't realize it was most of San Diego counties prom night, so it was filled with prom kids AND mother's day celebrations. We did have a reservation for 7 pm and were seated around 7:15, not bad for how busy it was. My husband did request outside seating when he made the reservation but we were seated inside. It's a very dark restaurant, so if you like that kind of ambiance, that's a plus.
The service was a tiny bit lagging but I do account that to how very busy they were.
We ordered the surf n turf sushi roll as an appetizer and I thought it was fantastic but on the small side.
I had the filet mignon en croute and my husband had the pacific fire shrimp. My portion was perfect and cooked very well but the shrimp dish was quite small, especially for nearly 30 dollars.
The lobster bisque was absolutely delicious.
Will we go back? Maybe....I wouldn't mind trying more sushi but there are definitely other seafood restaurants that I would pick above this place.
Nice food, a bit pricey....Meh.
prom worthy.
a sea of taffeta, sequined cleavage and tuxes came through the door. the hostess asked if we were with the prom group. i wish that i could say my prom was that fab but it probably included more hairspray and blue eyeshadow.
the large layout could accomodate big groups or a more romantic setting for two to enjoy the views of the city skyline and the san diego bay.
some pacific rim standouts were the jumbo lump crab, avocado and mango stack. be sure to try out some of their inventive rolls. filet mignon prepared any way is delectable but rolled up with some seafood was a fun take on surf and turf.
the lamb special was a hearty portion that was well seasoned but not overly impressive. we made the classic rookie mistake of not saving room for the choco lava dessert.
so for that night, the views were sweet enough.
It's definitely a toss up between 3 stars and 4 stars...
With great views from just about every seat in the restaurant, it's hard not to fall in love with this place. Went down for lunch on a Monday and was pleasantly surprised at how tastefully it was decorated for the Christmas holiday. There isn't a large lunch crowd and the server was quite helpful with our party of 7. The cuisine seems to be like hawaiian fusion. They have a pretty extensive drink menu as well as a full bar (despite the fact that it was noon). They have a pretty good selection of wines by the glass which range from about $7 and up.
To our dismay, sushi is only offered in the evenings, so we settled for other things as our appetizers. We ordered the Crunchy Coconut Shrimp (13.95) and Thai Chicken Spring Rolls (9.95). Both were quite tasty, but the portions weren't huge. I'd venture to say that there were probably about 6 pieces for each dish. The coconut shrimp came with about 3 sauces and the spring rolls came with the peanut sauce.
For the main meal - they have a large variety of foods from sandwiches to fish to pasta. I ordered the Crab Stuffed Tilapia (16.95) and was very pleased with it. It was a good portion of food and it came with a side of rice and veggies. The dish I almost ordered was the Sesame Crusted Salmon (15.95) - and I'm glad I didn't - both people that ordered it at our table left lunch still hungry. The other thing that I heard was really good was the Asian Pepper Spiced Chicken Pasta (15.50)... I didn't try it, but a few people said it was good.
We were too stuffed for dessert, but the chocolate lava cake sounded quite good!
After writing the review, I think it's most appropriate that I give it 3 stars rather than the 4... despite the great view, I don't believe that the food WOW'd me... it was definitely good, but not necessarily great. I'd come again, for the ambiance.
Peohe's, you are a great lunch spot when I convince coworkers on a venture to Coronado. You are always a daytime treat. But at night you are even more special (and unfortunately costly as well). This Saturday was no exception.
The view of downtown is awesome from this restaurant. It is a very romantic setting.
For dinner we had:
the surf and turf roll which was a great infusion of steak into a sushi roll - very tasty
steamed artichoke: always nice
crab/avo/mango stack - always a favorite
lamb special - very well seasoned and flavorful
crab - huge amount of crab. Meat possibly slightly overcooked but still delicious.
No room for dessert on this night though. We were stuffed. All in all a very good meal and a very good night.
So it would be unfair to give this restaurant anything lower than 4 stars, but 5 is pushing it. I have been to this restaurant on countless occasions, typically with my parents. But this last time I went I did not order any cooked items off the menu, instead I went with the seared Hawaiian tuna cocktail and some sushi rolls. I am not sure which one it was but for a whole day I DID NOT feel well whatsoever. In all honestly me and the white porcelain were best friends for a good day.... Other then this fault incident, I like this restaurant a lot (especially their coconut shrimp)!
Service is great, menu has a good selection and the view is always beautiful. The only thing is the hostess' who look like "daddy forced me to get a job" are working the front, I suggest some of them get an attitude adjustment.
Peohe's is a great seafood restaurant right on the SD Harbor... a great place to take a date (although I came here for a business related dinner-lol)... Park at Broadway Pier and take the Ferry to Coronado for dinner here. The skyline is gorgeous and it makes the date much more interesting when you include a boat ride.
This is a great place to take visitors as well! The views from the restaurant are beautiful!
