Nice clean club but there's a NAZI patrolling the pool area. I saw him totally rip the head off a small child, scream at several mothers, and make a complete jackass of himself. No wonder no one ever uses these pools. If you want your children and wives abused, join this club. Amazing that a Jewish club would allow this kind of harsh treatment. For the price, PAC is a better deal and no one's screaming there.
Been a member ever since it opened in 2004. The fee's are similar to Club One in San Francisco because they are (were?) the original management team. If you're used to 24Hr Fitness prices, you'll find the PJCC pricey. However, you get what you pay for.... Towel Service, indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi, steam rooms, Family locker areas and showers, childrens play area. daycare...too much to list.
Group Exercise classes are generous throughout the week,. There is a Main Studio for most classes, and a smaller Studio for some yoga classes. Spinning classes are available too.
New extended hours were just announced. I'm an earlybird, so opening at 5 AM instead of 5:30 makes a difference!
The staff is friendly and helpful. (With regard to Lalu B's comments, there are alot of parents who forget to pay attention to their kids at the pools....put down the newspaper and get in the water!)
I've been a member at the JCC for 3 years. It is a great facility - clean, friendly and family oriented. My son loves the Child Care and has been going there since he was 7 months old. The Child Care is excellent with nearly zero turnover in staff. The staff knows my son well and always great him with enthusiasm and genuine joy to see him. It is a great facility and would recommend anyone trying it out.
I love this place. It's the next best to Pacific Athletic Club for a fraction of the fee and without tennis courts.
The facilities at PJCC are very clean. The equipment is in excellent condition and always working. There are never waits to get on treadmills, steppers or bicycles. And if you are interested in classes, they have a great variety at convenient times. I have taken a kick-boxing and yoga class and enjoyed both.
5 stars to PJCC for their staff, equipment, classes and for the overall experience.
Love it!!

I highly recommend the massages from Grace and the facial/ waxing services fro Kym. They are both excellent and some of the best I have had, and I have been to a lot of spas.
I love it here. Its so clean and nice, a great place to workout. I've taken adult swim classes here- they were great. The locker rooms are always stocked with towels and soaps- no need to lug a ginormous gym bag....

Great gym, great trainers (Robert is patient and encouraging), and lots of machines. Particularly awesome are the machines that have tv sets; no more squinting at a set on the ceiling like I did at Equinox!
Downsides: HOT. The treadmills have mini-fans but the ellipticals don't. There is also a lack of general fans around the area so once you start working out and getting warm, it's really hard to cool down. It's even hotter in the general area and the lockers.
Some of the ellipticals seem to be jacked as well; I don't like crunching or knocking noises while I'm trying to concentrate on my workout.
Overall, awesome gym!

Awesome facility. Nice crowd, definitely familly oriented, but a bit on the pricey side. They have towel service, great classes, a full 25 yard pool, and clean gym equipment. There's not much more you can ask for in a gym. There's also tv's attached to each machine...bonus! I also love the lockers and the attached locks that you can set. They also have a free masters swim program, but it's only available extremely early in the morning. I have yet to try their yoga class, but will do so soon.
I have been there for close to two years now. Very clean facilities. friendly trainers, top notch equipments. I have not tried the classes yet but from other review maybe I should. two Pools, the only Cons is that the gym is crowded around 6pm. but it has not stopped me from going.
I joined PJCC for over a year and I enjoyed every moment I was there..Too bad I had to quit because the membership was getting too pricey for me. I had to switch to Gold Gym's in San Mateo (another great gym).
This gym has a great, clean, quality facilities and service. The staff is always super-friendly and helpful. Their equipment is always up-to-date and they have good trainers. The locker rooms, sauna room, showers, and pool are extremely clean.
I feel very secure when i go to PJCC at night since they have a safe parking lot.
I enjoyed going to my cardio-kickboxing classes on Mon & Wed nights, while I was there. This class is the best and is alway packed w/people at night.

OMG! What a facility! They have so many wonderful things going on here I can't believe it. A great gym, pools, classes, child care... I love going here.
Had to update with the news that they've brought on a fabulous esthetician, Therese. Her Target Zone facial did the trick. if you've ever imagined getting a facial that would refresh and make you sparkle, while enjoying good conversation and a peaceful environment -- EVEN though this is located in the gym near the changing rooms--this is the best! Great value for money and easy to book in for either a quick or long treatment. Therese is only in Thurs and Fridays.
Secondly, all of the Pilates classes and instructors rock. I only hope I get such abs and tone within the year....
I signed our kid up for swim classes here after seeing their awesome indoor and outdoor pools. over the summer, our expectation of possibly meeting many Jewish members was so wrong! Note that our kids are Eurasian. Well, this place could be an Asian Community Centre, perhaps indicative of the Foster City population?
anywho - the gymnasium is exquisite, can't wait to try drop in basketball or badminton, and the spin classes are great, but sadly, they are not located in a large exercise room with mirrors but tucked in a corner
so gym, spin, weights, Pilates, family atmosphere and very laid back, and located in a sunny, easily accessible place. oh, and childcare, which I've not tried....but seems to beat the pants off Primetime in Burlingame in serving local families that want a workout/bit of social interaction.
BRING YOUR OWN TOWELS - not that PJCC doesn't offer as many as you wish, but to save the environment!! think about it

As a member of "the J" for the past 2 years, I can say it is the best choice for me as a gym. It is a nice, clean, pleasant-to-visit gym. At ~75 dollars per month, I visit this gym very regularly to avoid my money getting wasted. Their facilities are inviting; besides using the gym, I often use the pools (indoor/outdoor) and hot tub. Their locker room is great with sauna/steam room and many showers, however it can definitely get too crowded at peak times (~6pm).
The yoga classes are great; and they offer special classes like Bollywood dancing (I am intrigued but have not tried yet ) for a moderate fee (~10 dollars per class)
I enjoy the photography exhibits in their main lobby and have attended several of their special events. I love going to the PJCC.

Just joined... great gym so far. I love that it's so clean and they have reasonably priced trainers, good hours, full spa services and of course a tv at every cardio machine. (watching Columbo makes the time go by quickly...)
This place is nice and clean, loads of equipment.
holy smokes is this place big ...I was trying it on a three day pass it is a nice facility , new equipment, beautiful pool(s) yes pools plural!!, the locker rooms are like a wonderful hotel ...the only downside about the place is a bit snobish , very hard to get into a class , and it is very expensive although probably worth every penny , just not for any but the upper crust...and lastly I did see one post about the word JEWSIH being in the name , and it does seem to be true that this is the asian community center, not the jewish center.

Nice place, kool, convenient. This is my 2nd home! sometimes I workout very late and walk my 4 legged kids after outside the gym @ 11pm. very safe at night. Friday night it feels like you have the whole place to yourself the very kool thing, they got free wi-fi also they got a lounge area has big tv, computer for members to use is more than your regular gym. The place is huge 50k square foot.
The upside is that it's a fantastic facitity. State of the art everything. Safe and lots of parking. The downside is for someone Jewish, looking for a "community" center. This is NOT it. I don't why the Jewish Community would invest so much money for it's group in an area of declining Jewish population. It should be called and have been funded by the Asian Community , as it reflects the population of the peninsula and Foster City.

Very nice indeed. I'm currently taking their beginning swimming class and I would have to say they are really good at gauging our skill set. I always had the problem of understanding breathing methods and they explained it really well. The women's locker room is pretty awesome because:
1. i don't have to bring my own lock. i like their lock system
2. plenty of towels, lotions, qtips, etc...where i don't have to lug a big gym bag with me
My only gripe is that this place is expensive.

I had a free pass to check the center out. It is large, nice facilities with pools and clean locker rooms. They had a grea sauna, nice classes, professional insturctors. I was also impressed with friendly staff. I could argue that this is a Jewish center as most of members seem to be Asian in appearance. But who knows, maybe they are all Jewish Asians!
Peninsula Jewish Community Center Athletic Club how I love thee, let me count the ways:
1.) Spacious, airy, bright, tons of light.
2.) State of the art equipment and lot's of it. Never a wait for anything.
3.) Clean and always sanitized plus there are sanitizer wipe dispensers everywhere and the members use them! Nice!
4.) Working televisions on all the cardio equipment and when they're not working, they get fixed!
5.) Tons (and I mean tons) of free weights in all sizes.
6.) Perfect lay out in all the different areas.
7.) Always trainers walking around answering questions.
8.) The locker room is not a locker room but almost a spa. Numerous showers and tons of product always stocked. Locker rooms are immaculate constantly being tidied by the nice ladies who work there.
9.) Steam and sauna rooms both spacious and clean.
10.) Rarely crowded.
11.) Indoor/outdoor pools and they're huge.
12.) No cheesy "gym scene" at all. Families and healthy people that are nice and at the gym to do a body good.
I know it's not right to love something material but I work out often so I'm okay with the fact that I love my gym. Matter of fact, I'd love to go on a date to my gym. I'm fanatical about this place almost as much as I am about Radiohead.
PJCC rocks my world and my body!

This is a great place. Nice location!!! Clean equipment. Tamila Averyaskina is one of the best PERSONAL TRAINERS. Very Knowledgeable, (Certified all the way) I am making a lot of Progress!!!! Honest and good person!!! Use her. I like her training sessions a lot. The only thing is that it gets too crowded at peak times. This is most you can get for $, not like other places (with famous names).
This place is phenomenal. The facilities are outstanding, the pools are top notch. I took a water fitness class here for over a year, the instructors were great. Childcare is nice, but the childcare facilities in my opinion could be better, they need more space and more area for smaller babies. Staff is great. I also did physical therapy at the MORE clinic located in the building, which was so convenient. Overall, the best gym I've found on the peninsula.
I love this place. I've been going here for over a year now and this place has great, clean, quality facilities and service. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. The gym has quality and up-to-date equipment which they're always updating. I picked the gym for 2 main reasons - the pool and the group exercise classes. I'm very picky about public pools and this place meets all my expectations. I can generally get my own lane, I share with one other person at most during peak hours, and the lanes are 25m lengths. They also have kickboards, pullbuoys etc for you to use. They have 2 pools, indoor & outdoor, and they have a jacuzzi indoors as well. My favorite group exercise class is any class taught by Chris L. He's a great workout instructor and makes the most use of the classtime. They also have great spinning classes here. The gym also offers yoga, pilates, tai chi etc. The locker rooms are clean, they have sauna, steam room, towel service.
This facility is just superb! It has a wonderful atmosphere of community, family and fitness. It is super clean and I have never once waited for a bike or a treadmill. After trying nearly every gym around, I have finally found Nirvana!
This is a great place. I have not yet used all of what it has to offer. I like their cardio equipment -- I love that they have TV screens (with basic cable) for each individual machine. I don't watch TV, but I imagine it'd be great for those who do.
I take YOGA classes and joined this gym mainly for this reason. I love the instructor, Yiwen. She really is very giving and creates an atmosphere of acceptance of where everyone is in the moment they step onto their mats and reminds everyone to respect wherever they are during that day of practice. I like that she incorporates the spiritual aspect of yoga -- it's not all about the asanas. This is very important to me because I've taken many, many yoga classes with many different instructors and I find that when I have taken classes with instructors who only focus on asanas, I don't focus on what's really going on with my body. I don't go inwards and really experience all that is happening in my body. Although I've taken lots of ashtanga and vinyasa flow classes where we perform the asanas using our breath, I haven't really learned to use my breath as I have in Yiwen's class. I really like that she does pranayama breathing ex's on Thurs. In taking her classes I've been able to really be in touch with where I'm holding my tension and help to release it. I also like that we chant in the beginning of the practice because it helps create vibrational energy in our bodies and it's a great way to start the practice. I really started enjoying chanting after taking several yoga classes elsewhere. The only thing I would like to see more of is adjustments made from instructors. I really enjoyed going to yoga studios because the instructor gave more individual attention and provided more adjustments during the asanas.
Carol's restorative classes are wonderful also. I love how relaxed I feel during and after class. Carol is very caring and makes sure that everyone is warm and comfortable during the restorative poses. She also goes around and asks us if we would like a towel to be placed over our eyes. I've found this to be really helpful because it helps me to really tune into my body.
I wish these yoga classes that I really like weren't offered so late in the evening.

I have to edit my review, having been there a bit longer now. I have taken off a star as I am getting more of an idea of the staff here. There is one particular woman who is in charge of a lot at the guest desk (she's always being summoned to approve things) who could stand to be friendlier. She is very matter-of-fact when things go a bit messy, or you can't get into a class you want. No extra smiles or love to be found in her.
I won't go into detail, but I feel the daycare staff could also use a lesson in parent communication and etiquette.
As far as the facilities are concerned, the gym itself is still top-notch!

I love this place! Aside from the fact that this place is CLEAN and brand new, here are some of the other features I enjoy:
-I feel like I can actually work out there, as opposed to feeling like someone is going to approach me at any given moment and ask for my phone number!
-The offer everything under the sun, from outdoor & indoor pools, to weights (machine & free), to classes, to cardio machines (EACH equipped with their OWN cable television screen!)
-Love the wet & dry saunas & hot tub for post-workout treats
-Affordable & safe child care (up to 2 hours)
-Everything provided: lockers/locks, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, towels, lotion, hair dryers, mouthwash, etc. Just bring yourself!
-Very friendly staff
-It's not too crowded (hopefully this post won't change that! ;)
FYI- I memberships run from about $85/month

I recently purchased an Athletic Club Membership and couldn't be happier. There're a number of things I absolutely love about this place:
1. State-of-the art exercise facility & brand new equipment (my favorite part is the cardio machines with little individual tv's)
2. Everything is in top shape and very clean, including equipment, locker rooms, showers, pool, spa, outside pool and a family locker room, where you can come w/ kids if you choose to (yes, they have that)
3. I tried out several classes, such as Pilate, Cardio Kickboxing, Core & Conditioning and Spinning - the instructors are great (I can only compare to 24 hr, and there's NO comparison, really!)
4. Child-care facilities for members are wonderful (at nominal fee of $5/hr).
5. The whole place is very family-friendly, there're tons of activities for kids, a playground, kiddie pool and Family Sundays (specially designed w/ activities for the whole family);
Overall, a friendly, safe and fun environment - as much for single pp, as it is for families! Try it out!! (purchase a day pass for $15 at front desk). Memberships are not cheap, but very reasonable!!
