Penguin's brings back nostalgic memories of the frozen yogurt of my childhood. I haven't been here in years and it looks exactly as I remember it. You can take your yogurt to-go but there are also plenty of tables and chairs in shop. The place looked very clean. Customer service was wonderful.
There was a small line when I came in but it moved fast. They give free samples of the yogurt before you buy. There was only one non-dairy flavor which is what I wanted. The flavor was mango. Wish they had more non-dairy flavors to choose from as it's a popular request nowadays. However, mango was refreshing.
A regular small scoop is $6. Some reviewers were saying that was expensive. However, that's the going rate for a small cup of ice cream nowadays so I think that's totally fair (as compared with Salt & Straw and Jeni's).
I purchased the kid's size cup ($5) and the amount was generous. I split it with someone and we were both satisfied.
I did not get toppings on my yogurt. However, there were a great many toppings to choose from for an extra cost ($2.75). They had every imaginable topping from sprinkles to fresh fruit.
Penguins is located in a mini-mall with ample parking. They take both cash and card.Helpful 11Thanks 1Love this 11Oh no 0 - Mary D.Orange County, CA7373372616Apr 29, 2023
My friend took me to this yogurt place, and I had the classic vanilla and strawberry frozen yogurt. This place has been around for years, and was one of the OG frozen yogurt places.
Customer service was great, and the cashier allowed us to try samples of the frozen yogurt and ice cream.
The vanilla was my favorite so I'll probably come back and get that. The strawberry was okay, but Yogurtland is much better. It tasted more artificial.
They also have a new Carbolite option, which my friend tried. She got the cookies and cream, which she said was quite sweet, even though it was no sugar and low carb.
I also tried the pistachio almond and black cherry ice cream, and would come back to get the black cherry.
Happy eating!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 1 - Jul 20, 2022Updated review
Update 3 months later... it's time to switch to Big Chill right across the streets. A SMALL scoop is now priced up at $6 and dry toppings charge $2.75 not only went up, now 4 to 3 TINY spoon-half.
Yelp needs to have a "THUMBS DOWN" in addition to 1-5 star rating.
'nuf said. Bye.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1Apr 14, 2022Previous reviewKiddos love this place. Too bad service and how they do business is not honest. The lady says she'll split the $1.75 fruits & dry toppings across 2 cups of 1 scoop each. Then she went ahead and dumped all FOUR scoops of 2 toppings onto 1 cup of ice cream. That's way too much sugar for 1 kid, I told her. She just stared at me. So we got 2nd cup with ZERO toppings -- and split the toppings after.
Don't appreciate the nickel & dime'ing going on. Ugh.
And $11 for 2 small cups of 1 scoop of ice cream $4.75/each + $1.50 extra for toppings. Hmm wanna support them but think we'll go across the streets from now on. - Feb 18, 2023Updated review
So I came back to try their peanut butter and cookies and cream flavors...just delicious! The service was super friendly, AND THEY TAKE DEBIT CARDS!!!

I'm so glad I did! My chocolate, vanilla and espresso yogurt trio was delicious and I had the most outstanding service from the sweetest, friendliest employee, Damien. She is just lovely!

I've heard of Penguin's before, and it'd been ages since I had frozen yogurt. Stopped by for an afternoon treat and chose two flavors: Irish Mint and Hawaiian pineapple. The latter was my favorite, as the froyo really brought out the fruity, slightly acidic taste of the pineapple; the Irish Mint was good, extremely minty, but it bordered on tasting like toothpaste. XD
Overall, decent place for froyo, although it's expensive at $6 for a small cup.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - O O.San Francisco, CA0123Jun 21, 2023

This place had great customer service. The lady taking my order took her time to put the toppings in a very cute way. To be honest the only frozen yogurt place I like is pinkberery, but after trying this place out I think it might be now my new favorite place. The yogurt tasted amazing. So happy to find a new place like this.

NEVER GOING BACK!
BEWARE!
I've been going to Penguin for a few years now. I went again on Sunday, and there was a STAPLE i pulled from my mouth in my bowl of yogurt. Most likely, from the packaging of the nuts that were put on my yogurt. Not even an apology from either of the 2 employees, one of them being the manager. She didn't offer anything, not even a refund, until I had to ask for it. $17 was the order total but since there wasn't a STAPLE in the second bowl, we only received $10 in a fefund.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

I accompanied a friend who relies on a certified service dog for seizures to Penguins Frozen Yogurt. The employee on duty, a middle-aged Latino man, asked us to read a sign. We assured him that we had read it and explained that the dog was trained and served as a service dog. Shockingly, he responded by telling us to leave since we weren't visually impaired. It's important to note that this behavior is not only illegal but also incredibly rude and uncalled for.
We decided that Penguins Frozen Yogurt did not deserve our patronage. Instead, we found a fantastic alternative just a short distance away called The Big Chill Frozen Yogurt, which turned out to be absolutely delicious.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
