Review from Mary D.
While visiting family in the US, we've ordered many a meal from Penang Grill. We LOVE it! We typically order the Walnut Chicken & Shrimp, a Vegetarian pad thai and a chicken pad thai, rice, and spring rolls. This is more than enough to feed 4 hungry people, and VERY satisfying.
We generally do takeout, and service is quick, and the food is always hot and fresh! -

Overpriced Chinese food, probably would not go back.
Decor: 3 out of 5
Basic layout, very simple decor. Plenty of open space.
Music: N/A
Service: 4 out of 5
Waiter was very nice and efficient. No complaints here.
Food: 2 out of 5
Ordered chicken pan fried noodles, there was barely any noodles. The plate had more chicken and vegetables covering the plate than noodles. Literally 2 bites of noodles and the sauce was really salty.
Also ordered the shrimp pad thai, which was extremely bland.
The hot and sour soup was decent as well as the Malaysian Ice Tea, but you can go to pretty much any other "asian fusion" restaurant for these items.
Prices: 2 out of 5
Meal for 2 people came out to about close to $40, for really below average food. Can't complain about the service though extremely nice people. -

Oh, my. Why is this place rated so well? Ah, yes. Its the suburbs. This was easily the blandest SE Asian food I've ever had. I cant imagine this place lasting in NYC. But in Greenwich, aparently cute dishes are enough,

I'm addicted to the Basil Beef dish. Chicken satay skewers are tasty. Large noodle soup bowls are also excellent!

The ONLY place to go in Greenwich for Chinese takeout! Many of their dishes are wonderful.

I have dined at Penang many times and have always enjoyed the food and service.

I actually think the food her is 5 star caliber but the service is anything but. There sesame chicken is by far the best in town, crispy and sweet on the outside and hot to the point where it could burn off the roof of your mouth if you're not careful. (Which is pretty much how i require my food)
They also have an appetizer of szechuan dumplings that come in this amazing sauce that is also quite the treat.
Now on to why i knocked off 2 stars, the service is seriously rushed to the point of being pushy. They charge you for refills on your drinks like soda and tea (pet peeve of mine but i'm the reviewer and soda refills cost next to nothing so to charge me 1.50 and that I had to practically send up a flare to get the waiters attention to get my refill is just poor form on their part)
Either way, with the Sesame Chicken crisp and the Dumplings hot, I will continue to return for the great food but will be for sure have low expectations on how i'll be treated. -

Two words. Mango Beef. That's all you need to know. So yummy!
Their pad thai is not good unless you like really bland food.
We order from here a lot - love the food, love the prices. Oh, and they have your food ready in less than 10 minutes if you're doing take out (no delivery). -

This place was rated pretty highly on the Greenwich Zagat guide so I decided to give it a try. Was expecting something more SE Asian from its name but it's american-chinese. I was intrigued by the sambal prawns lunch special so I ordered that. $8.50 for a few pieces of shrimp and sauteed peas, eggplants and onions is pretty pricey IMHO. Ate my average-at-best lunch and left and got back to work.
When I got back to my office, I started perspiring, on a March winter day, and then my throat started constricting and my eyes began to itch. In 5 quick minutes, my eyes were swollen like in the movie Hitch and I was gasping for air. (I have pictures to evidence this ordeal. msg me I'll email them to you.)
I have eaten peas/eggplant/onions/shrimp/rice/oil my entire life and have no food allergies. It's scary to think that there might have been something that was added and not your everyday ingredient/condiment that could cause an allergic reaction. BEWARE! -

Good food and very quick service, a bit too quick if you actually want to enjoy a lengthy meal. Full of families on the weekends due to its relatively cheap price.
The decor is cute but there are not many tables, and I believe they do not take a reservation so generally looking at a short wait (remember they try to get you through your meal as quick as possible).
I prefer lunch here as it is quick and quiet.
Beware - They do not have an alcohol license. But you are allowed to bring your own bottle. -

Amazingly delicious pan-Asian food.
Pad Thai, coconut curry, bowls of soup -- everything here tastes great.
Excellent attentive service.
Food is cooked and brought out of the kitchen so quickly that you will wonder whether they had time to cook it !
They do a brisk take out business because there are only about 15-20 tables in the restaurant, so consider takeout as an option.
And they do not take reservations, I think.
Show up early and try everything on the menu.
Great fun restaurant! -

Really good flavors. For dinner, I get the thai curry soup, basil beef, and sambal delight and it's always great. My one complaint is that the lunch specials are terrible values compared to what's available from tengda and even asiana cafe. Portion are tiny and overwhelmed by rice.

Excellent place for good service and moderately priced Asian food. No bar so you can bring your own - no corkage charge either. Very consistent and relaible. Good for take-out, too.

showed up here with friends and a bottle of wine.
found the asian food quite tasty. service as quite on top ot things. The servier really wanted to move us right on through. He really liked stirpping the table of left over plates and food. The leftovers back faster than they brought out the food. The food was well timed. We were finishing the appetizers and the main entres showed up.
The wine did a nice job of matching our food, even though we brought it in ourself.
Did not even take a look at the desret menu. Course by then we were full and ready to go. So was the server ready for us to go. -

This place was delicious! I thought the food was great and the service was excellent. It is very small, so I would definitely make reservations. I went here on a date and it was good for conversation and the ambiance was nice. The food was moderately priced, but they don't have a liqueur license. I wish I knew this before I went, because you can BYOB or wine! It's right off the Ave and parking was really easy.
Listed in: Good in Greenwich

A good place to go for lunch, although it can get a little crowded. I haven't been for dinner since it seems a little pricey for pretty average Asian food. It's BYOB and make sure you come prepared since there's not a liquor store within walking distance.

Very clean, authentic food. The wonton's are very light and yummy. If you're used to MSG-amped up, greasy asian food then this place is not for you. If you want authentic, fresh (and yes, sometimes simple) food, then go to Penang. Only negative: Limited seating!

Good for lunch.
Penang has very good lunch specials and it is an enjoyable experience as long as you order the right thing. Choose their brown rice over the white and get something with vegetables. I don't really know what "brown sauce" means, but it tastes good.
Overall, it's good for lunch, but I would not come here for dinner. Try Asiana if you want a nice Asian dinner. -

I have been going there for about 5 years and I used to go about twice a week but now I go about only once a month. The food is great and the staff is generally very nice! The prices are very good about $6 for an appetizer and $11 for a entree. I strongly recommend this! It was my favorite restaurant for a long time!
