Best Thai within a 20 mile radius!!

Let me start by saying I wrote a review on Chantanee in Bellevue a few weeks ago (which received some criticism) from one of their owners. However he/ she recommended their sister restaurant in Bothell: PEN THAI.

I write this review as I sit in my office, eating my leftover pineapple fried rice from last night's dinner party. I prefer to write my reviews after eating at such restaurant a few times, to get the total experience, that way it's fair to both my readers and the restaurant.

I have dined at Pen Thai probably close to 30 times over the past 5 years and I'm happy to say that dining here has gotten better.  It is a cozy restaurant while it's interior has a distinct Pacific Northwest feel, with it's open beam ceiling construction (most similar to the Purple Café in Woodinville) and rich color palette. This Thai restaurant with it's delicious, hot, and spicy (if you specify) cuisine is real step up from your "around the corner "neighborhood Thai restaurant.

The menu is consistently good and reasonably priced.  We started with the mini spring rolls and a moderately priced bottle of pinot noir. My girlfriend ordered the Princess Chicken, myself, the heavenly beef and pineapple friend rice with chicken- (all 3 stars on the spiciness scale). Our friends ordered the prawn pahd thai and cashew chicken. 5 stars, all across the board!! I being the only "regular" to Pen Thai, the restaurant was (naturally) a hit!

Wonderful food, good wine stewardship. Ask for Chutima Wantanaphan (April) who was our gracious and very attentive server. We had an awesome dining experience and will surely return in the near future.

I don't have much good to say about this restaurant.

On a Sunday evening, it ws packed.  We ordered the sizzling beef and the spicy eggplant, and waited.  And waited, and waited... the food took a long time to get to us.

The sizzling beef was on a metal platter shaped like a cow.  The description made it sound like this would be very flavorful - but honestly, it wasn't.  The vegetables were overcooked, the sauce was oozing out from the platter onto the table, and the beef was so-so.  It just wasn't very good.

The eggplant, to its credit, wasn't greasy, but it didn't seem like any oil was used; the texture was kind of like eggplant that hasn't been steamed all the way through.  It also wasn't spicy at all, and wasn't even very hot (temperature-wise), as thought it was cooked and sat while the sizzling beef was made.

Getting our check took forever - this even though the restaurant had basically emptied out by this point.  Even getting back our change took five minutes.

There are better ways to spend $30+ (for two) on mediocre food and bad service.

In general the food and service and very good.  Favorites include the Crab Wontons, Heavenly Beef, and Ginger At Sea.

There have been one or two occasions where service has been bad, so I cannot give them five stars.  However, I like the food and keep coming back.

After my beloved Sai Mai closed, I had no other choice than to try Pen Thai.  I've heard some unsavory things about the Pad Thai.  I've yet to try it.  I have though, tried the "Emerald Curry," and I can't bring myself to try anything else because it's so so good.  It contains everything a good green curry should: eggplant, zucchini, peas, and Thai basil leaves.  I always order it with tofu.  Typically I get fried tofu, but here they use silken tofu, which custard-like texture pairs perfectly with the sweet, salty, and creamy curry.

One thing I like about Pen Thai is that rice is included with every entree; even brown rice if you so chose.  I also enjoy the modern Thai decor.  Pen Thai definitely helps to class up Bothell's main street.

I'd recommend checking out Pen Thai at lunch.  They serve complimentary soup.  It's worth trying.  It definitely didn't feel like they typical throw-away free lunch soups most places serve.  We were given a type of wonton chicken dumplings soup.   The little dumplings tasted like chicken filled gyozas.  There was also chopped kale and onion in it.  The broth itself had a "clean" quality to it; it was crystal clear and perfectly seasoned.

Since it's so close to home we can there by walking in minutes.  I'm looking forward to checking out the Monday half priced bottle of wine special.  Nothing beats not having to worry about driving home after having a nice dinner and few glasses of wine.

***Update....I was told by the owner of Pen Thai that they serve the "Americanized" style of Pad, and it's by far the restaurant's most popular dish. However, for those that don't like the ketchup based sauce, try the "Pen Noodle," as it's the authentic tamarind based version of Pad Thai.

Not so good. I'm on the road so I'll make this short.

On our way out of town, I ordered a vegetable pad thai with fried tofu to go. What I got was a ketchupy mess seriously lacking in vegetables. It had bean sprouts and some green onions and nothing else. OH I'm so annoyed! I would have gone back to complain but I'm already many milEs away and getting further away as I type. Don't worry, I'm not driving. Aaaanyway, this all wouldn't bother me so much except it appears they have raised their prices as well. For that pile of ketchup, noodles, bean sprouts, green onions and fried tofu, I paid $13 and change! Good lord it angers me just to type that.

I met a friend here for lunch today.  I've eaten here before, but today is the first time I decided to actually post about it.

I ordered the Pad See Iew (Stir-fried wide rice noodles with broccoli, egg and sweet soy sauce. Your choice of chicken, pork or beef.) & my friend ordered the Princess Favorite Chicken (Stir-fried chicken with broccoli, carrot, cashew nuts and a yellow curry sauce.).  My Pad See Iew was good, not great, just good.  I ordered 2 stars, but wished I had ordered 3 because it wasn't spicy enough.  I've had Pad See Iew at other Thai restaurants, but this one was a little too sweet for me.  (Yes, I am aware that it says 'sweet soy sauce' in the description.)  I guess that I wasn't expecting it to be so sweet.  My friend's dish was pretty good - colorful & tasty.

This is a nice place to eat for lunch.  The decor is inviting, the service is quick & your water glass is always full.  You can have a nice lunch for about $12 including tip.  (That is, if you don't have anything to drink.)  I will definitely go back.

Yikes, what happened here?

Pad thai tasted like ketchup?  Tom Kah had something in it that could only be described as rubber-chicken?

I used to visit Pen all the time, but with Sai Mai kicking butt down the street, I've got no reason to anymore...

Sorry guys!

We tried Pen Thai about 9 months ago and had a good, tasty meal in a nicely decorated space with good service. We went back a few days ago and I have to say that the only thing good about the place is the service and decor. The food is NOT good and will not be going back. I'm not sure if they changed chefs, but the food was not the same as it was the first time. To me, this place taste like Mae Pham in DT Seattle, but 3x more expensive. By the way, did I say I dislike Mae Pham?

In terms of the meal, I knew we were in for a bad meal when the Tom Yum came out. It was so salty to the point where I couldn't really make out the hot or spicy.... Following this, I KNEW for sure that things were going down hill when the Pad Thai came out and it looked like ketchup. I really, really dislike Pad Thai that has ketchup in it. The panang curry was not much better - it was too sweet and the house special fried rice was just ok. The only dish that was decent was the Pad Kee Mao. All of this was compounded by the face that each dish is $13 ~ $18.

Great place in the small downtown of Bothell.  Bigger Thai place with lots of folks eating on a Monday night.  Ordered some spring rolls, which were great.  Big curry fan, I tried the Panang Curry and it was awesome.  Good portion, not a huge pile of chicken and rice.  Get it 4-star spicy.  Cheap beers with a good selection of local brews.

I had lunch here today with a bunch of co-workers...after hearing how great this place is and reading some of the Yelp reviews I was pretty excited....turned out to be a letdown.

There were 7 of us and they all ordered Phad Thai - I decided to try the Pen Special Fried RIce (description:  fried rice with a special mix of chicken, beef, pork, calamari, prawns).  While the flavor was fine and pretty typical the portions were SHEISTY!!!!!!  Talk about small...the plate was only half filled, there was mostly chicken, 3 pieces of beef, 2 prawns, 2 small pieces of squid...wtf?????????  All this for $12...definitely a rip off.  i mean dam, at least fill it up with more rice if ur not going to give me meat...c'mon yo.

The Phad Thai actually looked better and was a more reasonable portion.  Safe to say this is a one and done for me.  I'm never in Bothell anyway and was only here for work this week.  Supposedly, this joint is owned by the same peeps that own Chanteenae (I highly recommend btw)...I'd go to Chanti's in a heart beat over this place.

Middle finger to the sheisty fried rice chef - stop holding back!!

Chantanee's sister restaurant is just as good, and easier to access than their new Bellevue location.

The service is always friendly and prompt, and the food is rediculous good for an out of the way location.

There are so few good restaurants in sleepy Bothell, any authentic place would do.  But Pen Thai really stands out in Greater Eastside.  It is the sister restaurant Chantanee in Bellevue, which I frequented.  Perhaps I only went to Chantanee for lunch and Pen Thai for dinner, I think Pen Thai is better.

Anyhow.  I am not a Phad Thai fan.  For noodle dish, I prefer Phad Khi Mao.  I judge a Thai restaurant by how well they prepare Penang and this dish. It comes with wide noodle in dark sauce (vs. ketchup) basil, tomatoes, and lots of veggie.  I had better, but Pen Thai does a good job. Live dangerously, try 3 stars.

For starters, we like Lamb Satay, and Chicken satay for the kids. We also like their Spring Rolls and Miang Kum.  Since not all places serves Miang Kum, I almost always order it when I visit Pen Thai.  Gottta love it when the dried shrimp and fresh chili pop in the mouth! We tried Angel Wings, once, it was over-fried and tasteless.

If you only order one curry dish, order Beef Penang.  It just isn't as good with other meat, seafood, or tofu. I don't like battered food, so I never tried the Garlic Chicken.  Garlic Lover's Delight on the other hand, it's very good, so are Princess Favorite Chicken and Phad Khing.  If you like eggplants as I do, you must try their Spicy Eggplant. Don't like vegetables?  Try Heavenly Beef or Sizzling [insert your favorite meat here].  We usually order half white rice and half brown rice to go with the yummy food.

If you still have room for dessert after all these delicious food, the Fried Banana and ice cream are well received by my kids. Perhaps it's a special because I haven't seen it in other restaurant, if they have it, you must order it - a dessert come in a coconut shell, with warm sweet sticky rice on the bottom and coconut sauce and ice cream on top.  It is to die for.

The wine and beer selection is pretty good.  Thai tea was OK, but I had better. The wait can be long especially on weekends, but that's a good sign.  We are always happy about their service, and love their slick interior design.  I remember the space was occupied by a pet shop.  They did extensive remodeling and the owner was actively involved in the designing.  I would hire her to decorate my house if she is available.

Agree with many others that the price is high.  But you get what you paid for.

Pen Thai is a good restaurant with a good menu, modern decor and a nice wait staff. My main gripe is the large price increase. Their lunch items used to be $6-$7 but now they are $9. Coincidentally this price jump happened at the same time they started using really fancy bound books for their menus.

I have been here quite a few times, usually for lunch on a work day. It is quite popular and packed around 12pm during the week. Everything I have had here so far is good, which includes chicken phad thai, garlic chicken, garlic fried rice, and sweet/sour chicken. Although I gripe about the prices, I'm sure I will be back since I do enjoy the food and many of my friends also like going there.

The thai food here is about Average.  My plate was a bit salty for my taste.  I'm also vegetarian and they had a hard time with accomodating my needs without compromising the dish.   I don't want fish sauce but unfortunately majority of Thai dishes are made with this.

Give it a try - it's nice and convenient for the location in Bothell.

I struggled w/ the rating on this one but settled on 4 starts.

I'd give it 3 while the wife would say 4.  As usual, she's right....

Actually,  I think the problem for me is that she found this place and already has her favorites picked out.  That means its impossible to try anything new on the menu unless we bring friends along.

I love the appetizers:
Crab wontons
Miang Kum (do it yourself app where you spinach leaves w/ coconut, ginger, limes, shallots chilies, peanuts and tiny shrimp.)

The crispy garlic chicken is so good that my wife swears they must use Crack in there somewhere.  How else to explain the cravings the next day to go back for more....

Pen Thai  _always_  does me right. I've entertained groups here via a Twitter lunch I've hosted recently and family visiting from out of town.

Modern architectural touches in the seating area with a private room in the back for groups up to 40 people but I wouldn't dare attempt it with more than 25 Otherwise, you'd risk one of the females needing to go to the bathroom with 3 of her friends simultaneously converting the room into an agoraphobia convention gone horribly astray.

Despite a down economy destroying service industries and restaurants everywhere they charged us _nothing_ for the 4 bowls of rice served to my tweet-up group. How do they do it? The food isn't that expensive... Waitresses are _always_ friendly. Water glass rarely dry. Food comes out hot and fast. Heavenly Beef is a must have especially if it's your first time.

Possibly the only knock against Pen Thai is the check can be slow to arrive if you are in a hurry but all things considered I can't dock them a star for it when everyone else in town has a "get 'em in - get 'em out!" service ethic. Also, when I'm in a hurry (always at lunch) I just mention it to the waitress when my food arrives and she squares the check up right away for me. Also, you'll find the Phad Thai a bit ketchupy if authenticity is an important element of your dining experience.

The store front is very clean and modern facing a quaint "small town" main street with microscopic parking options. Seriously, parking is kinda silly. Here's a trick for you:

Thank God for the back entrance. Just drive around the building and you'll discover a much larger parking area, then come in through the back door. It's a nice, clean entrance. You won't have that awkward look from a cook or bus boy when you open the door because the food prep area has it's own separate access. Very nice for when you invite your friends up from L.A. who want to maintain their superstar anonymity...

But I don't have any friends like that... Yet.

I just use the back entrance to pretend for now until I do. Did I mention I have a script for a movie I just finished? It's totally awesome.

I've been eating at Pen Thai since it opened and have always had the best experiences there. I always take friends here and take every opportunity to reccommend it to others.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting and everything is clean and tidy...take note of the immaculate kitchen!

The service is always excellent and the food is always fresh and quick to arrive. Having been to Thailand, Pen is slightly Americanized but is the best Thai food I've had.  Take a venture outside of the standard (phad thai) and try something new. The Swimming Rhama and Phad Prikh King are delicious, as is the Crispy Garlic Chicken and Phad See Lew.

In closing, another yelper rated Pen 2 stars and said that their favorite restaurant is next door...which I assume they're referring to the Main Street Ale House, if your favorite restaurant in Bothell is the Main St. Ale House, I respectfully suggest that you refrain from writing any more food reviews on Yelp.

I've been here a couple times, neither of my own volition. I was either with a group who liked to eat here or in the neighborhood looking for something else, only to find it was closed.

This is not a cheap place to get decent Thai food when you're in the neighborhood. This is an ordeal. Prices are steepish and they're really into the presentation - I'd need more than once hand to count the times that other diners in the restaurant were presented with steaming, sizzling, burninating hotplates piled with tasty Thai delights.

The menu is, however, comprehensive... making this ordeal a pleasant one. There's a slew of vegetarian options, and the meat-based entrees feature big happy slices of flesh. I can state with 100% certainty that all of the chicken in my entree was indeed chicken, and the pork in Rob's dish actually tasted like pork and not wacky gray sponge-beast. The fresh roll appetizers are tasty and complex, with no mung bean sprout filler. I almost always go for the black rice pudding dessert in all restaurants that carry it, but the waitress suggested the evening special of coconut ice cream and Asian donuts. It wasn't rice pudding, but it was tasty for sure - the "donuts" were a perfect mix of creamy and crunchy, and the ice cream tasted like real coconut.

I will almost certainly end up eating here again, though perhaps out of choice next time...

I find it really funny that Chantanee thai restaurant in Bellevue has 23 reviews and lil' ol Pen Thai, the sister restaurant in Bothell only has 1 (well now 2).  The menus and preparations are virtually identical.

But the inside of Pen Thai is newer and much nicer.  They use a ton of copper on the inside of the restaurant, and it is light and airy.

As for food, I am a huge fan of their Phad Thai with fried tofu (less the bean sprouts but that's just me); I don't eat a lot of tofu but when it's fried here it's crunchy and delicious.  Normally I'm more of a curry guy but when I come here it's the Phad Thai for sure.  Many other dishes are excellent.  Some have extremely strong garlic.  The soup that comes out at the beginning is either hot and sour (very sour), which is pretty good, or very salty clear brothy soup, which is salty and fine.

The service is exclusively by pretty Asian women who are efficient yet typically cold.  I don't mind but if you're looking for friendly I rarely see it here.

Parking can be a challenge at lunchtime.  The lot behind the restaurant fills early, and so does the street.  I normally park a couple of blocks to the East on the street where it's better.

It still seems an unlikely place for such great Thai food, but skip Wild Ginger and head to Bothell!
This sister restaurant of Chantanee in Bellevue does not disappoint.  We like the Heavenly Beef (think 7 flavor beef at WG), the Sizzling Golden Chicken (a sizzling yellow curried chicken with vegetables), and the Sizzling Seafood Basket (comes to your table in foil shaped like a bird). The Spring rolls are 6 little bundles of "yum" served with a perfect plum sauce. They also have a great takeout menu.
Be prepared for a wait, even at lunch, but stick around and you won't be disappointed.

Clean, pretty, and oh sooo dang good, you can find this place nestled away in the North Eastern part of Washington in Bothell.

The sister Thai Restaurant of East Side's legendary "Chantanees," Pen Thai offers up some of the best meat dishes and one of the best 4 star Phad Thai's in the state.

Don't even hesitate to order the Garlic Chicken (1 of the best Thai dishes you will find!!!).  And for starters, begin your meal with springs rolls (Crispy, and mouth watery good)

The noodle dishes, curry dishes and chicken dishes are all above average in flavour but can lack consistency in the spiciness department.  Your 4 star Phad Thai can be as hot as your two star Panang, and at times, they can be slow on refilling your water.  But despite these issues, the flavor of your food is so good...you won't mind the lack of punch (ask for the extra oils and peppers!!!)

The most surprising dish on the menu comes in the form of there Beef Salad.  "Consistently and pleasantly good"  is the only way I can describe this dish.  If you're open to it, order it and reap the benefits of your open mindedness.

Bring a date, and the decor and ambiance will set you up for a fun time....take business dates here to close the deal with ease...meet with family to celebrate your sister's b-day with some foreign flavor....bring friend's here to start your night off with some sweet and spicy food!!!

My only problem with this place is that if you live in Seattle you  may have difficulty finding the restaurant, and it is also difficult to justify coming here when you can get the same quality food at their sister restaurant on the East Side.

But...if you find yourself hungry and in the north end...considering this restaurant the "Best Thai in the north" is almost an understatement.  Like always, take care of your service staff folks!!!! The food tastes better when you do :)

p.s
Also...try the Thai Iced Tea for those hot summer nights....it's one of the best cool downs you can buy!

I am currently in a state of fantasy regarding their Tom Kha.

I always get take out so I have no comment on their service; they have always been polite when I have picked up my food.

Yeah man! I'm gonna take a shower then go get some GD curry.

This is by far the best Thai restaurant I've ever been to!  And i should know; I live in Fremont, home to about 182 Thai restaurants.   But i would trek to Bothell any day for Pen Thai!  Try the crispy garlic chicken and lemongrass chicken and you will agree with me.  The atmosphere is nice too, very classy decor.  Plus the wait staff is super friendly, i really don't have anything bad to say about this place.  Except that there aren't any in Seattle....

They also make the best Thai Iced tea, which you can now get at their booth at the Fremont Sunday Market!

I've been rockin' Pen Thai since they opened.  I pout if someone suggests anywhere else for thai.  When I get my way, my friends are always impressed.  It is THEE go to place for lunch in Bothell.   So yeah, they jacked up the prices, (which honestly, were too good to be true) and the atmosphere has changed a little, but  I still find myself going back for the panang curry with prawns.  Their noodle dishes are yummy too.  Mmm, mmm, spicy! I like my food like my review, 4 stars!

Probably the best Thai food I've had. It's a cool place. Great food and good atmosphere.

The service was slow, our plates were dirty and our lackadaisical butchy server had a terrrrible playboy bunny tattoo on her wrist.  Kinda creepy i thought. I had the chicken garlic fried rice, which was tasty. But my mom ordered the prawn phad thai (it was kinda ketchupy) and the prawns were kinda fishy.  I'm not so sure about the place; my first time in i smelled something like boiling [fermented shrimp paste], and i came in while the staff was having a banquet so i kinda felt ignored and left.  Maybe there's some thai food preparation-- sauce or broth or something that smells like [fermented shrimp paste] when produced. But I've never smelled that anywhere else. I'd sooner drive to fremont to get some thai, and I live in Bothell.  But don't take my word for it... I'm a thai food snob and a restaurant worker.

Hmm, maybe we hit Pen on a bad night.  The service was sloooow and the food - not the best Thai I've ever had.  In fact, unless someone dragged me kicking and screaming, I'd never go again.  Lucky for them other people seem to enjoy their food.

To me, Thai food is about using all your senses, sight, smell, taste.  Pen seems to lack the wonderful perfume-like qualities of subtlety prepared dishes.  It seemed like the type of Chinese restaurant that white people love but no Chinese people like - the food was very "in your face" lacking any grace (to comment to an earlier review;  Thai people do not traditionally eat with chopsticks, so if you're at a Thai restaurant that HAS chopsticks, back slowly out the door!).  Ours was all too salty, yes salty,   The only thing I liked was the beef salad and our table of 12 ordered practically 1 of everything. My Asian family (me, my dad and hubby the only white people) simply wasn't impressed.

However, I will note that they more than accommodated my mother who basically asked them to create something out of a combo of menu items.  She really enjoyed her special dish, although they did burn it and served it to her anyway. . .

In "sum up" I originally gave them 2 stars, then because they were nice to my mom I gave them 3 stars, but then remembered the burned food and almost took it to 1 star.  But I'm not petty.  2 stars it is.  My favorite restaurant in Bothell is right next door, so I'm not likely to give Pen another try, but if I do, and find the food improved, then I will update my review.

I find myself slightly at a loss to describe why this is so good.  There's a different character to a 5-star review of, say, Thai Tom, which is arguably the best Thai food on the planet.

But this place earned its 5 stars too.  Come inside, and you'll find a typical Thai restaurant for white people- no chopsticks in sight on the tables, authentic-looking decor, and a noisy yet congenial atmosphere.

The menu is quite extensive, and our group ordered 5 dishes.  The spicy eggplant was particularly memorable (served with beef), the phad see iew was delicious and sweet, and even the fried rice was well-flavored and not oily.

Even down to the water on your table, this was really good.  I suspect filtered water, and the staff ensured that it was never empty.

Prices are pretty standard, $8.95 for most dishes.

I don't have a lot more to say, and that's a good thing.  This is darn fine Thai food, period.  Forget that this is in Bothell, just off SR 522.  Forget that everyone else eating here is white.  Just check it out, and share your food family-style.

When I want Thai food, I want Pen Thai.

The atmosphere is pretty, though a bit cramped at times.  The food?  Oh...yum.  I've never had a bad meal here.  My faves are the pad se ewe (I think I spelled that wrong!) and the King's Favorite Chicken.  The crab wontons are fantastic and not to be missed.  The corn fritters, a new addition to the menu, are also delicious.  A good Thai place should be able to make a decent Phad Thai, but most places somehow destroy it.  Not here!  Pen Thai's Phad Thai is everything that Phad Thai should be.

Service can be iffy, but the quality of the food counters any hiccups you might experience along the way.

Try it, you'll like it!

Not only does this place have an active, modern atmosphere with interesting art and sculpture lining the walls, but the food is amazingly great as well. The waitresses are friendly too. For some reason, there are no waiters, just waitresses. But I don't really have a problem with that.

People tell me that all the food is good here, but I'm so hooked on the Pad Thai dish that I never order anything else except for soup and an appetizer. A single dish is so filling that I can usually only eat half of it (except for one time, when I was really hungry).

You can choose your spice level for each dish from one to five stars. I go for five stars, which is hot enough to make me hiccup just like eating anything even slightly hot does (don't know why, I think I got it from my dad). Of course, it's only just spicy enough to tickle my desensitivized Indian tastebuds.

I found this restaurant on Yelp earlier tonight and decided to give it a shot because of the great reviews here on Yelp and I thought the quality of the food was very good!

Based on the other Yelper recommendations, we ordered Pad Thai (though we had vegetarian) and one of their specials, the "Sizzling Chicken" - note that we had the Sizzling Chicken on their "specials menu" b/c apparently there's more than 1 dish with "Sizzling chicken" in the name. Both dishes were high quality (meaning all white meat chicken, no sketchy "fat" or "pieces" of bad meat) and the veggies in the pad thai were fresh and tasty.

Overall, we were quite impressed and would definitely go back again. Pen Thai does not have delivery services but they will pack up an order for takeout which was what we did tonight. I'd bet the food would've been even tastier had we eaten in instead...

A beautiful restaurant in downtown Bothell. Yes, I said Bothell - B-town.

The dining environment well decorated with a modern flare. The food came out super fast however we found the sauces to lean to the sweeter side. Ok, the Phad Thai was too sweet plus the sauce for the fried tofu. They offer a great selection of veggie options and the fried tofu by it's self is delish. So simple. Their curries are spicy and savory.

Pen Thai is my favorite Thai restaurant in the whole world.  It can really be summed up by just that.  Any time I have clients from out of town, Pen Thai is usually on their "must do" lists.

I personally can't eat enough Pen Noodle, Five Stars, Beef.  ZOMG.  I'll drive across town to get my Thai Cravings met instead of being disappointed elsewhere.  Their Tom Kah soup is also among the best I've ever had.  The prices are extremely reasonable, the service is friendly (and they're cute to boot), and it's tastefully decorated with art from local artists as well as mixing in traditional styling.

Last time I was in Pen Thai, a plaque on the wall informed me that they're rated one of the top 100 Thai restaurants in the country.  I understand why!
