Canal Street (J, M, Z, N, Q, R, W, 6)
Grand St (B, D)
Eh.
Service was really good. The food was just okay. Usually I think of Italian food as having really large portions, but the portions from what I was seeing were TINY. I ordered the ravioli, and there were only FIVE ravioli's on the plate. I noticed everyone else's meals were really tiny too. Not very much food.
The appetizers were really not that impressive either.

Mmm, succulent italian food. Whenever my parents visit we come here (because I can't afford it on my own :P), it's their favorite italian in NYC. The service has always been nice, and I love the free bread you get in the beginning, especially the focaccia, mmghhh. I don't drink wine, so I can't rate them on that front, but they do constantly refill your water! And the actual food is pretty amazing. I've tried a few dishes, from the veal, to the fish, to the creamy pasta, and it's all fantastic. I've always been too stuffed for dessert, but they roll a cart around and they look delish.
The atmosphere is really nice too. Very cozy and well lit, but I find the abstract "art" on the wall to be hideous. Ah well! Can't have everything. And yes, I know Little Italy is basically just a tourist trap now... but I still love it (:
Sometimes it's been very crowded and we've had to wait (this was during christmas season) and other times, like weeknights in the spring, it's been pretty empty. I assume that summer nights are packed as well, so it's best to make reservations if you know its busy season.

I've eaten at most of the Mulberry Street Italian restaurants (I still have a few to knock off) and this is my favorite. The portions are quite generous and tasty and the wine list is ample as it should be. I really like the bread, and more specifically, the manner in which they do their olive oil and balsamic. It should be pointed out that the service here is very good too, which is important to me. Attentive when necessary, but not overbearing. Certainly worth a look if you're in Little Italy.
I agree with all the reviews, eventhough they're all from out of town ; ]
Pellegrino's is the best of Little Italy by far and I've been to a hand full of them. Pellegrino's really stands out and not by one certain dish, or the warm and attentive vibe you feel, but based on many positive factors (too many to list). And OMG the mozzerella corrozza beats any I've tasted before - it's perfect. This placed it unbelievable compared to their counterparts, the go-to spot when craving fine Italian cuisine in the neighborhood.

So I went on my pre-birthday date here... since I have classes on my birthday from 9am-9pm (how unfair is that??). My birthday dinner was pre-planned in my mind - I wanted some LASAGNA!!
We scouted out some Italian places here on Yelp, and decided on Pellegrino's........................ and off we went. We were instantly seated (7:30 on a Thursday nite), and our food came very quickly after ordering. Sadly (minus one star, that's how sad) - no lasagna. No complaints other than that though - the food was amazing!!
We started with the stuffed artichoke heart antipasti ($15), and had the chicken stuffed with duck, a side of mashed potatoes and asparagus ($25), and the lobster ravioli with shrimp ($25). All was delicious, the service was incredible, and the experience was all in all quite lovely.
would be nice if it weren't in tourist-overridden little italy. went there for a nice business lunch, only to have some gigantic group of teenage tourists walk in with their all-too-lackadaisical chaperones. food was pretty standard italian - nothing suprising. pretty reasonably priced; you can order dinner dishes at lunch if you so desire.
The service here was one of the best. I actually got my bread before I even got my menu (the bread by the way was really good and had a nice variety). The servers literally hovered around your table (not to the extent where it was annoying) to make sure everything was okay and offered to answer any of your questions about the menu. They never let your water be more than half empty and was always there when you needed them. After looking over the menu, I decided to go with the Penne di Pesce which is basically a seafood and penne pasta. I wasn't sure what to expect and was actually half expecting something like you'll see at any normal Italian restaurant. But man was I wrong.
I was stunned to see the quantity and the quality of the seafood I got! I think there was actually more calamari then there was penne pasta. The calamari was cooked perfectly and was soft as the penne. You also get 4 scallops that were as big as your palm, extra-jumbo size prawns, and mussels all covered with a light red tomato cream sauce. The seafood was cooked perfectly so it wasn't chewy and the entire meal was seasoned so well so that you don't need to add anything to it (and I usually add salt to my food) with the exception of freshly grated parmesan and a hint of freshly ground pepper. It was by far one of the best seafood pasta I ever had! Although my meal including tip was about $45, it was definitely worth it given the amount seafood I got, how well it was prepared, and the exceptional service during my meal (you also have to consider that I'm in NYC). I didn't have any complaints at all except that I was way too full to eat any desserts that looked really tempting on the dessert cart.

After thorough research on Yelp for an Italian restaurant to go to this past Sat night, I went with Pellegrino's. Every reviewer is correct -- this restaurant is amazing. Some of the best Italian food that I've ever had.
We were seated within 10 minutes of us getting there. We had the mozzarella antipasti to start. Everything was very fresh and tasty. My friend had one of the specials: chicken stuffed with duck and sides of butternut squash and asparagus. She loved it. I had the calamari in a diavlo sauce with fresh linguine. It was amazing. The calamari was cooked to perfection, the diavlo sauce was the right amount of spice and the fresh linguine was divine. Even my friend, who doesn't like non-fried calamari, loved it after she tried it.
We also got a bottle of wine. Service was attentive and when the bill came, it was $130 with tax and 20% tip. Not bad for a delicious meal!

My parents were visiting and my mother said she wanted to eat at an italian place in little italy. Based on Zagat/Yelp reviews, I chose this place.
The atmosphere was very nice, though a little dark. Great place to take a date if you want to impress!
The service was top notch, though our waiter had b.o. issues...eeww. We were seated right away and all of our questions were answered without hesitation.
My father ordered the porterhouse. My god that steak was HUGE!! I kept asking if he had taken a bite yet, and could barely tell because it was the size of the plate. Tasty steak indeed.
My mother ordered the lamb. I've never been a fan of the stuff, but she thought it was delicious. I ordered a seafood dish, of which I don't recall the name. It was fabulous!
I will definitely come back to this place to impress friends/family/dates, etc.
When visiting NYC recently, I looked to Yelp to find a good, classic, not too expensive Italian place in NYC. I think Pellegrino's fits that bill. It wasn't knock your socks off tasty by any means, and it seemed that there were a dozen other Italian restaurants in the neighborhood that looked like they'd taste about the same, but I wasn't disappointed. I wouldn't search it out again, but if I was in the neighborhood and craving lasagna, I'd go back.

The best Italian restaurant on Mulberry Street, hands down. We worked up quite an appetite after shopping the street fair, and Pellegrino's had an open table. Boy, did we luck out.
The staff were attentive and professional. The wines by the glass were impressive. And the food. The food! Pellegrino's makes me believe in good Italian restaurants again. The best endorsement of all - the locals are eating there. This ain't no Little Italy tourist trap.
This place was amazing- we had what i would consider to be almost a perfect meal
it really exceeded my expectations for an Italian restaurant in the heart of Little Italy. they put true care into all of their food and the servers take pride in what they do
the other reviews all say it clearly- this place is worth your money

Being Italian and having been to countless Italian restaurants, I have to say this is top notch. Every single thing I had from the appetizer to the dessert was done incredibly well. The only thing I'd give it a mark down on would be the price, which was a bit high ($100 / two people, including tip), but if you want to have a great "Little Italy in NYC" experience, this is it.
No NY trip is complete for me without a stop in Little Itlee. The smells of marinara and garlic mixed with the aromas of the humid sewers seeping up into your senses is like candy I tell ya and last week didn't disappoint.
I was on my way to see my friend Rocco Deluca play at the Bowery (great show by the way!! Catch him next time he's in town) and since Mulberry was just a few blocks from the venue we figured, why not? As we cruised the streets, we really were just looking for somewhere that we didn't have to sit outside and somewhere with a friendly Italian guy standing at the door. We approached Pellegrino's and got all of the above.
The gentlemen escorted us in and sat us at a very nice table. He then told us about the specials and one jumped out at me as sounding really good. It was a lobster and crab roll kinda deal with a cream sauce and it just sounded deelish. My friend went with her vodka sauce and sausage and mushroom pasta dish and as soon as the plates arrived, I knew I ordered wrong.
But lucky for me, she often eats like a bird and so I enjoyed the rest of her meal after pretty much picking at mine. Since time was a factor we pretty much ate and ran off to the show, but for a nice dinner after a stressful week, it was really good.

I won't mince words..this place kicked F-ing ass. Every aspect of it, from the waiter to the busboys to the food to the wine...slayed.
They had a chianti which was one of the better by-the-glass wines I've had. My entree of shrimp scampi was outtasight, as was my fruit tart dessert. I was ready to repeat the entire thing when I finished, it was that goddamn good. The staff was way on their game with refills too, never had to chase anyone down. This is one of those places I will be sure to hit whenever I return to NYC. I loved it, wife loved it, kid loved it. That's a home run.

Food was superb, and the service was even better!
We ate here for lunch before heading to the airport on Tuesday. Our last meal in NYC. It was damn good.
2 different types of bread - the foccacia was excellent!
We started with an appetizer of polenta (served liked bruschetta) and portabello mushroom. Oh it tasted so good! (See picture)
For our entrees, we ordered the Rigatoni in vodka sauce with mushrooms and the linguini with aparagus and peppers with proscuitto. Both dishes were equally excellent. We licked our plates clean!
Then onto tiramisu for dessert. Just as I had expected - excellent strong coffee flavor, yummy mascapone, with a powder of cocoa. Wonderful!
With all of that food, wine, coffee, and espresso, we paid $69.30 (including generous tip for excellent service).
Everything was exceptional!
the food is outstanding. its almost as though i cat really come up with the right words to describe the outstanding dinner that we had.
we were seated immediately at the best table in the restaurant (from corner in the window) upon arriving for our 7pm reservation. service was quick and the specials were plentiful.
our appetizers were great. mussels marinara, baked clams, and friend calamari. any italian restaurant afficianado knows that calamari is good way to judge a restaurant. this calamari passed the test. it was lightly friend and nowhere near rubber-bandy.
dinner was 2 veal parms, chicken marsala, and rigatoni a la vodka. all were outstanding and huge. nothing was leftover.
my husband and i have declared this the best restaurant in little italy and definitely will return. i cant wait.
Excellent food-- service was a little rough but not horrible.
No poser here...
THE UP-SIDE: When you're tired of all that "Sopranos" type tourism stuff in NYC's Little Italy, go to Pelligrino's. This place is authentic and fantastic. It's fairly big and busy, but I had no problem getting a reservation a day ahead for a Saturday. The food was perfect and the staff was just very pleasant and helpful.
THE DOWN-SIDE: No real down-side. It rocks.
THE SUM-IT-UP: Go here for great Italian food. It's an oasis amongst the touristy poser restaurants around it. You won't be disappointed!

The meal here was to DIE for. So delicious. The veal was seriously the best I've ever had. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. And, the chocolate pound cake...SO GOOD. My co-worker claims that the sea bass he ordered was 'the best he's ever tasted'! The staff is VERY attentive. We never even had to ask for a refill on water! Very impressed by the service, the feel, and the food! I'm so glad that we bypassed every other restaurant on Mulberry and opted for Pelligrino's!

This is why I love NY. You can walk down the street hungry as hell and have a million choices to satisfy your hunger. This night we were craving italian and the smell and look of their dishes lured us in. (so did the hosts lol) It was a total little Italy experience. Excellent service- the waiter split my meal on two plates for my friend and I to share. Both beautifully presented. My other friends Abalone Pasta looked delicious too. The people eating next to us could have very well been from the cast of the Sopranos. lol!!!! I loved it. Check out my pics for the lobster I had here. It was very very good however I could have had more shrimp than calamari.

My Favorite Restaurant in Little Italy. When I lived downtown I spent a lot of time in Little Italy and have tried virtualy every resturant. Pelligrinos is by far hands down the best. They also have great lunch specials. You have to check it out. AMAZING!
