Review from Tyler R.
Pelligrini is a little larger and a little more...involved than other wineries I have been to on the longest of the islands, but in no way would I consider it a "frat-house" winery (a term I first heard from (therefore consider coined and trademarked by) my fellow LI wine tasting buddy.)
Sure, there can be busses. There can be large groups of older folks on a nice leisurely wine stroll. There can simply be a lot of individuals at one time. Thankfully, there is usually room for everyone.
As much as you may (or may not?) want to avoid a crowd, Pelligrini is a great place to make (or not make) an exception. The tasting bar is long enough to hold a decent crowd, and supplemental seating exists in the form of nearby indoor tables, outdoor tables, and a quiet (er) loft area above the main tasting area that you can retreat to with your wine of choice.
While I've tasted a lot of their wines - I choose to write about (rave about) only one - their Vinters Pride Bin Finale 3131 Dessert Wine. It is sweet, smooth, and terribly amazingly deliciously alcohol filled (as most dessert bottles are.)
I suggest you do a tasting with wines of your choice (including bin finale), realize how much you like it, and get bottles, not glasses. With some quick calculations you need not worry about, you will find it is much more economical to get a bottle to bring home, or get a bottle to bring home and another bottle to split with others (or not) while you are there - and another bottle on top of that because then you can say you got a "trio" of Bin Finale, which sounds much better than "I got two."
Good for: Drinking at the vineyard, drinking at the home, before food, after food, near food, in the evening, by a fire, in the pool, near the pool, in the snow, in the leaves, near some leaves, in the city, in any city, near a city, on a boat, or anywhere in between. Just make sure it is cold - ice cold.
Enjoy it and then tell me how right I was.Listed in: LI Wine Tasting

Review from Claire V.
So very sad, I don't really know what to think. On a gorgeous autumn day, our car of ladies was out apple picking and hay riding, and were lured to the beautiful grounds of Pellegrini. The setting is lovely, but unfortunately everything else was rather horrid.
Upon walking up to the bar, where three servers were frantically and inefficiently pinballing into each other as they collected glasses of wine for maybe 10 or 12 customers, my group of 3 was ignored. FOR TEN MINUTES. Other customers who came up after us were served out of order. Finally, we were given lists upon which to mark our selections. We each opted for the $8/3-2 oz.-pour flight that could be enjoyed on the veranda. This included a bonus 1 oz. pour of their "famous" chardonnay. Thinking we'd get the most for our money, we ordered the two most expensive reds, and I tried the gewürztraminer. The server took a further ten minutes to return with our glasses, after we watched her struggle with opening new bottles, inserting spouts, and looking harassed. Yes, it was busy, but I have to imagine not busier than any other Saturday.
One friend deemed both the reds (they were indistinct) to have a taste of diaper, the other couldn't drink more than a few sips. We are all wine lovers, with open minds and easy to please palates, but this was pretty awful, like two-buck Chuck infused with mold. The gewürztraminer was quite nice, if a bit overly sweet. The chardonnay was dim and shallow; not undrinkable, but hardly there. We laughed to ourselves and contrived to at least enjoy the setting, going for a walk among the pretty vines and tasting a grape each, wondering how Pellegrini managed to transform such a tasty specimen into haphazardly served vinegar. -

This was the second of three vineyards that my friends and I visited yesterday, and the one that (on balance) I would say was the best. You have a nice view of the vineyards up-close, which is a very nice and tranquil setting (compared to Martha Clara, where you have rows of sunflowers and the stink of animal excrement when you get out of the parking lot). Given the hot/humid weather in the mid-afternoon, no one was sitting outside, so we went right in and got a wine tasting. I like the set-up here much better: you get the chardonnay, plus any 3 wines of your choice, for the $8 fixed price. It's the same price, but I like that one gets to mix and match from a selection of 15-20 wines on your own instead of being 'given' a particular set of pairings. The one downside is that it's a little more impersonal; unlike the other spots, we didn't get an overview on each one, but that didn't bother me as much.
Getting a table was easy enough, and we were off to sample the wines. The default Chardonnay was nice and dry; I like it better than the buttery Chardonnays I had elsewhere. My favorite was the Gewurtztraminer (which I'd never had before); it was a light, sweet wine that didn't overrun your taste buds with sweetness. The cabernet franc and sauvignon were also very nice full-bodied reds as well. We got a small cheese plate as well; the blue cheese was okay, but I was a huge fan of the natural cow's milk cheese, and the brie was also excellent. Now I understand why people like having wine and cheese events!
Definitely would enjoy coming back here and maybe taking a tour when the weather's a little more amenable to being outside. It's very nice and peaceful and full of good wine. -

Toto! I have a feeling we're not in California anymore!
Of the five North Fork wineries I visited today their wines were by far the worst. That they charge $45 for some of them is criminal.
Their Petit Verdot smelled like feet and managed, somehow, to taste worse.
Luckily, they were my first stop so things only got better!Listed in: North Fork WIneries

Who needs Napa when you've got wineries like Pellegrini Vineyards in Long Island? I'll admit that I was a bit skeptical when my friend suggested we go wine tasting in Long Island, but was pleasantly surprised by the experience...
We called ahead for a reservation for our party of 10 and was taken very good care of by our wine man, John. We all chose the $8 flight and I was so impressed by the various different wines we were able to try for just $8..never gotten a deal like that in Cali! I lost track of the # of wines we tried and the names of them (the sign of a good time) , but being the white wine lover than I am I really enjoyed all of the whites. The merlot and a few other reds didn't really do it for me, but my husband and friend were happy to take care of them for me.
Perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere (we found it worked well for a photo shoot), tasty wine, and get your buzz on. Like I said...who needs Napa?Listed in: A Weekend in Long Island...

New York State has our own Napa Valley in Long Island. The service is very attentive and the bar tender was very informative when explaining the types of grapes and fermentation.

This Pellegrini Vineyard and not to be confused to the west coast Pellegrini in the Russian River Valley (and to the best of my knowledge they are not related). Pellegrini in Cutchoque was the first winery in the North Fork that I visited. This winery produces a rather large array of wines: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and a red and white blend. Nice tasting room staff and overall experience. Be sure to try their Merlot and Cabernet Franc--very well constructed and both are well known by the producer and the North Fork wine region.

This was a really nice stop for my guy and I on a sweet drive along the North Fork. The staff at the wine tasting bar were really nice and were very happy to answer any questions and share their knowledge about the wines, the area, and wine-making in general. Your best bet is the $8 flight which includes their feature merlot, and 3 other choices in 2 oz. pours (about half a glass). You can then take your tray of wines and sit at one of the outside tables overlooking the vineyard... very pretty. While your wine flight includes some wine crackers, my recommendation is to pick up some nice cheeses at the Village Cheese shop in Mattituck (on Love Lane) before showing up here.

I will give this winery 2 stars because the view of the vineyard is nice. They have seating areas where you take flights of wine to your table to "enjoy," however, the quality of the wine is not good. In fact, I would rate it as barely palatable.
