Like Jen M. we scored the $99/night non-weekend rate (check Travelzoo for the most current deals) and actually upgraded to a full ocean view room on the second floor for just $20 more- although getting a room on the first floor you get the same view AND a little patio as there is no balcony in the rooms w/ an ocean view on the second floor .  As for the service, not only were the front desk, wait and custodial staff SUPER friendly and helpful, the other guests were great sources of information.  It quickly felt like being at a new school where all the other kids knew way more about all the ins and out than you did until you realize this isn't the first time they have been there.

With the stay you get all sorts of tasty treats, in the early evening there is Champagne and cheese tasting.  In the later evening (for the older crowd this is around 8:00) they have cheesecake.  And the breakfast is fantastic (see Eugene F's review!)

There is a modest gym and a small pool (see pics) but with such great scenery right across the street I would choose a beach run or sitting by the waves over a treadmill or a sun chair anyways.

I'd def. go back!

We ended up booking a suite (room 207) at the Pelican Cove as our regular inn was sold out. We were thrilled with the accommodations. Our room had a lovely balcony that looked out onto the ocean. The room was large, clean and well appointed. We will definitely be back.

Clean, friendly and cross of the street from the ocean. Offers a decent breakfast and small outdoor pool. Unfortunately is not pet friendly.

We ended up here for a two-night midweek stay since my usual Cambria inn (Sand Pebbles Inn) was booked up.  Pelican Cove Inn was a nice place, but I ended up missing my usual haunt and I'd definitely try staying there again first.  Sorry!

Pelican Cove Inn is on Moonstone Beach, and it's pretty, but we splurged on a "full ocean view" room only to find the view was only through the windows in two fairly small patio doors -- my usual "partial ocean view" room at SP has practically a full wall of windows on two sides of the room and you can see the ocean from the bed.  The room was also ground floor but kind of sunken below street level, so half of the view was of a hedge.  Should have gone for the second floor room with no patio, I suppose.

Our bed was also kind of hard and old, and the only heat source in the room is the fireplace -- luckily not a problem but the thing flickered all night and that might annoy some folks.

Breakfast was decent -- hot breakfast buffet with the usual, eggs, meat, waffle bar, breads and bagels, yogurt, and so on.  I'm not big on breakfast but the man is, so that was good.

Anyway, it was OK, but next year I'm calling Sand Pebbles Inn in advance...

Good value with Travelzoo rate. At their regular rates, I would take a pass.  The staff were very pleasant and helpful, the room (they call it a suite, but it's really just a largish room with a small sofa) was immaculate, and the description of partial ocean view accurate, at least when looking out from the small balcony. The wine and cheese was very good, the wine more than the cheese, with two reds and a good white. The cheese was running out at 4:15 and was not really replenished. The wine was. The desserts were so-so, a bit on the stale side.  The breakfast was outstanding, with lots of choices from both the healthy and unhealthy domains.

The real problem was the temperature in the room -- extremely hot upon check-in, with all of the windows having been left closed. Opening them, and turning on the ceiling fans did not really help much until much later in the evening -- say 1 AM, preventing a good night's sleep.  There is no air con, and there should be, at least for those rooms that do not face the ocean or have real cross-ventilation. The pool is postage-stamp size, and loaded with kiddies, but it would be too small to really swim, in any case. In the winter, it would have been a great stay, but you don't come to the coast in August to swelter in a hotel room.

Another wonderful stay at this wonderful hotel.  We reserved a "partial" ocean view room with a king bed this time around, and I have to say I was quite impressed.  Check out the sunset that we got from our room, room 415.  The room came was huge, had a fireplace, and seemingly way more room than the room we had during our first stay last year.

The breakfast that they have in the morning is quite good, as well.  They have a variety of freshly prepared eggs, sausage or bacon, and potatoes on warmers.  They also have waffle irons for you to whip up a fresh waffle in the morning, too.  The wine and cheese that they have in the afternoons are nice, as well, with four types of cheese and at least 5-6 different wines for you to SAMPLE (not get full to the brim--hint, hint to the rude couple that did this).  You can take the food to your room, as well, and eat it there.

Two other things for the tech-reliant, like myself.  Free wireless is available throughout the property.  Signal is strong, and actually fairly fast.  Also, there is little to no cell phone reception on the hotel property, so be forewarned.  If you need to get a signal, I found that my phone could get a signal when I walked out of the hotel, turned left (heading into Cambria on the path by the beach) and walked a bit until in front of the next door hotel.  I know it's a bit of a walk, but hey, a guy's go to do what a guys gotta do.  Free local calls, also, on the hotel's rooms.

Prices are in line with other hotels of the same level in Cambria.  So, be prepared to shell out a bit for the rooms here.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Pelican Cove Inn.  I booked a super $99 rate through Travelzoo to stay here.  I had low expectations because I got such a low rate but the rooms are very comfortable and extremely clean.  The rooms have mini refrigerators and microwaves.  The front desk staff here is terrific.  They are incredibly cordial, welcoming, and willing to recommend good restaurants in the area.

I had a room on the ground floor and I saw 2 tiny spiders when I was there.  Thank god they were little ones.

Stayed in the front and had a wonderful view of the ocean. There's a path on the opposite side of the road where you can walk along the ocean as well.

We stayed on the suites side, and the building is nice and clean. The beds comfy and towels fluffy. What else do you want from a hotel? Well, they include a hot breakfast. I suppose it varies day to day. There was an afternoon wine and cheese table. And dessert and coffee in the evening. Put all this together with the ocean a stone's throw away, and it's a great location.

Beautiful place to relax and unwind. Hotels along Moonstone Beach are the best because of proximity to, what else, the ocean. Cambria is nice to slow down and do random things. Go to Hearst Castle, drop into galleries, etc. And don't miss the elephant seals. It's a beautiful place. However, if you have no soul like me, you may not get as much out of the experience as others.

This was heaven!! We were on day 7 of a 9 day road trip. We had just finished camping for 3 days. We were dirty, tired, hungry. We called on a whim. They had one room left!!! Woohooo we were in! We looked pretty ragged. We arrived around 7ish. As we were checking in, I said to D. "boy I'm so hungry". The woman at the front desk asked if we wanted waffles. We thought how odd!!! But the cook was there and apparently he had just whipped up some waffles. he brought two plates of waffles out with hot syrup and jellies on china and brought out silverware. Got us some hot coffee. They were the BEST waffles ever!! Super light and fluffy. Now I know we were going to have a lovely stay!!

The room was gorgeous. We had a room facing the ocean. A nice fire place in the step down living room. There was a sitting area outside to enjoy the sun. A very comfy king bed. Was wonderfully romantic. We love Cambria. Had a wonderful night/day there. We had a very delicious hot breakfast in the morning.

FYI...don't stand on the bed. The ceiling fan will chomp off your head. Hahahaha.

This is a nice hotel, and the rooms that have a view of the ocean are very relaxing.  However, since they took over the property next door 2 years ago, the place just isn't the same.

They went from being a small Inn (about 20 rooms) to a larger property with almost 50 rooms, and I has lost some of its charm on the way.

They serve breakfast, afternoon snacks and dessert.  The room they serve the food in is too small to accomodate the number of people that stay there, breakfast can be stressful and disorganized (too many people, coffee running out, cream running out)  The chef who cooks the breakfast does a good job, but he needs more help making sure everything is kept full.

The rooms are a good size and are kept clean and all the staff is very nice.    Another note, there is no air conditioning - normally you don't need it, but on this trip it was 90 degrees when we were there, and there wasn't much of a breeze coming in the door.

Stayed here for one night (weekend). I found this place very nice. I like the decor. I did not have a chance to use A/C or room service, so based on my short stay this review might be incomplete.

We recently stayed at the Pelican Suites in Rm 214.  This room is situated in the very back of the complex on the second floor.  If you go out on the deck you'll definitely have a view of the ocean, as this room is advertised as a partial ocean view.  Highway 1 is to the back of this room, but  it's very quiet and I didn't notice any additional noise from the roadway.  It overlooks the pool and has a pull-out sofa in the step down living room portion of the Suite.  The room was very comfortable and we were able to spend an afternoon inside relaxing as it felt like home.  A buffet breakfast was included, along with wine and tea in the afternoon, and dessert in the evening.  When my wife called she was quoted a little higher for the room than what the internet stated, so try that first to ensure you get the best rate!  We'll definitely visit again!
