Ocean breeze, people watching, good food and drinks...what else can make it better?
Maybe being there in January when there is a snowstorm in Chicago?
Yep, that's it :)

I am shocked to see the number of good reviews. By far the worst service I have ever experienced in my life!
A friend and I grabbed a couple of martini's at the bar. I ordered a Belvedere dirty, he asked for Ketel One dirty.
As we watched the bartender pour grey goose in the mixer for both martinis and served them to us repeating our original order to us. We looked at each other a bit confused? Like seriously? We saw you pour Grey Goose and then repeat back to us that it was Belvedere and Kettle???
We decided to let it go and just take the drinks to a table and grab an appetizer. After asking the hostess if we could get a table, she told us that we could take any seat we wanted. We picked a sidewalk table. After 30mins goes by without a server or even so much as a server assistant to bring us water, My friend went back to the hostess stand and asked for menus as a subtle way of say "Hi, We'd like some service". Another 45 mins goes by and a server finally walks up and says "Are you going to order something?"??? Actually... No, I would have liked to 45mins ago but now, no, not really!
We finished our drinks there and left.
I got the feeling that all service standards on SoBe are pretty low, being that they automatically tack on the gratuity. I guess they don't think they have to give good service.
I wouldn't go back!

Pelican's restaurant charges a more than 30% tip on the bill! The menu says very clearly at the bottom that you can choose to tip less if you would like. What it does not say is that when you choose to tip less they take the difference out of their workers paychecks! I was horrified by the things that the manager said to me. When I confronted them on this they explained that the workers lived in shacks and accused me of shortchanging them, as if they were poor because of Pelican's customers rather than because Pelican takes advantage of migrant workers and does not pay them a living wage. It was unbelievable. He then proceeded to say, "Well, you know what you're getting when you come to a place like this." This was the ugliest treatment I have seen of workers in my entire life. Our waiter, who had given exemplary service, looked so scared that he was going to be fired. His boss had made him feel like it was his fault that I was unwilling to tip at 30% and that I was confronting management about it. If you have any moral compass whatsoever, PLEASE eat and drink somewhere else. There are plenty of great restaurants and hotels on the strip that do not do this. It's not worth a few bucks off your drinks or dinner.

Loved the atmosphere, the service, and the food. We had pasta, salad and a foccacia and it was all delicious and reasonably priced. The dirty martinis were ice cold and perfectly mixed. I could have sat there all night people watching on Ocean Drive. It was a cool mix of swank and all the South Beach crazies wandering up and down the sidewalk.
decent place. just like any other ocean drive restaurant (rob summed it up). however it earned an extra star in my book for being my most favoritest rando act by a rich miami chick...
my ex and i were eating an early dinner here on a week night. the place was pretty empty. a group of 4 fabulous women sat down pretty close to us. the kind of women who don't need to work cause their husbands are making tons of money, so they spend their free time on so-called charity work and wearing linen pants and overly large hats.... yeah, those type of women.
we're minding our own business, when the most fabulous (ie. she had the biggest hat) walks over, plate in hand and states, "dahling, your salmon was calling me, might i try a bite". well, never in my life, have i had a complete stranger ask for food. but she already had the plate in her hands and she was so fabulous and her hat was sooo big, i just couldn't say no. i gave her some of my salmon pasta.
about 20 min. late, she brought over some of her crab stuffed ravioli on a bread plate to the table. which was pretty tasty as well... i think it was a special though, cause i don't remember seeing it since.
so pelican is like a 3 1/2 star. but, if i could rate that women, she would've gotten 5 stars for her brazen audacity.
oh, large brimmed fabulous miami socialite where are you? we could've been friends. i was just too stunned to talk at the time.

Wonderful cafe. Last at South Beach, we dined here three times.
Heartily disagree that all restaurants on Ocean are the same. Not all restaurants have bread baked on the premises, home made pasta and an exceptional award winning wine list. The bottle of Bruno Paillard we had was perfect as was our dinner of Pecorino Toscano with Honey and Fruit, Foie Gras en Brioche and Truffle Glazed Short Ribs.
Starving after partying all night at Pearl and Nikki Beach, we stopped again at the PC for their delicious coffee and phenomenal French Toast. I cannot abide bad coffee or bland plasticky food after a night out. Clubbing makes for a big appetite and the Pelican Cafe does not disappoint.
I dream of their French Toast. Crisp on the outside, eggy and custardy on the bite topped with wild blueberries and raspberries.
For lunch, my mister had the Pizza Al Prosciutto; thin, crisp crust with semolina and layers of Parma. Delicious. I had the spectacular "Chef's Salad"- unlike any I've ever had- served in carved avocado shells, filled with crab, fresh corn, avocado, and shrimp. Cool and very refreshing.
Michele Merlo was there every day to supervise first hand and his efforts show. The cafe is a comfortable place to relax and enjoy a well mixed cocktail and any one of the the thoughtfully prepared menu choices.
Basically, all the restaurants on Ocean Dr are the same. Not bad, but not good. More options and better fare on Lincoln Road.
one of the many restaurants on ocean with the food laid out in front, and some girl beckoning to eat there. so i did awhile back, sat out front under the umbrellas, enjoyed the people watching. food was alright, but not particularly memorable.
I went here for a late lunch after i was forced off the beach by a downpour; my friends and I were looking for something quick, cheap, and simple, and that's what we found. The Pelican has a small, basic lunch menu- wraps, salads, paninis, burgers, etc. After seeing overwhelming menus like Nexxt's, I welcome a smaller selection! I didn't drink, but they seemed to have a decent selection of cocktails (including capirinhas, which you can't always find) as well as a rather large wine list, which I was surprised to see.
The food here was surprisingly good for a tourist trap; I had a Greek salad wrap with chicken that came warm with a great cucumber dill sauce and tortila chips. My friend had the ahi tuna salad, which she loved, and my other friend had a chicken sandwich that he wolfed down, so I assume he liked it. The menu isn't too expensive for Ocean Drive- my wrap was $12, the ahi tuna salad was $14, and beers were $4 (including tip, obviously for South Beach).
The food came really quickly, but the service was just okay; we were happy with everything, but the server never checked in during our meal. He also forgot to bring our drinks, but we're a pretty easygoing crowd, so we didn't care that much. Plus, he was friendly, which helped. For pickier customers, though, the service might be a problem.
All in all, a nice spot on Ocean if you want a decent, quick meal.
Great view of the beach. Its OK as far as food is concerned.
