We stayed at the Renaissance in Tampa while we waited for our cruise on the weekend. This restaurant is connected to the hotel. We had such a good time during our lunch at Pelagia that we ate and drank everything! The tapas in the beginning are awesome. The mint- cured octopus, sardines in citrus, tomato goat cheese with pesto and the grilled shrimp were very delicious. Try any of their signature cocktails, you will not be disappointed. Even something as simple as the bread they served with the olive spread was very tasty. All of our entrees were very good as well. We ordered the mussels in a spicy broth, shrimp with lobster stuffed ravioli and my mom even asked the chef to make pork chops which was not on the menu. This restaurant was great because all of the ingredients used were so fresh and everything was prepared beautifully.
Stopped by for lunch today and chefs Fabrizio Schenardi and Daniel Goldich blew my mind. We had huge, spicy Shrimp al Pil Pil, incredibly tender garlic- and mint-cured octopus, fried veal-stuffed olives, manchego with sweet honey, oven-dried tomato and goat cheese with pesto served on a garlic crostini, and deliciously earthy wild mushroom risotto croquettes. We also tried a pasta special of penne with wild mushrooms, thin strips of beef tenderloin, tomatoes and parmesan tossed in a rich cream sauce. As always, everything was impeccable, from the flavor to the presentation to the service. It seems like every time I visit, I discover a new favorite dish, whether it's the grilled Caesar fondue, the decadent bolognese sauce, the pomegranate marinated duck breast or the simple olive pate. From my experience, this is arguably Tampa's finest kitchen. (1/30/2009)
I had the grouper sandwich for lunch and it was great. It's a nice spot, but I wasn't wowed.
