No way we go back there again...

I went there for lunch with my mom and kids.

Service: They did not ask if we needed a highchair for our 20 month old daughter. Obviously, we did need it, but did not bother to ask them since they did not even bring her anything like water, folk, or small plates.

Orange sauce chicken: Eww, Eww, and Ewwwwww!! worst ever. Too sweet and did not have flavor. It was all crust and no chicken in the crust.

Three ingredient taste: it was so much better than orange sauce chicken. They out shrimp, beef, and chicken and some veges.

The fried rice that came with plate had no flavor. It was brown colored rice with some oil.

NEVER GO BACK THERE NO MATTER HOW CLOSE WE LIVE...

This is the most you will get out of Chinese food in Carlsbad. Lunch menu has small portions, you get half the plate and its $1 to $2 less then the price of their dinner menu. Shrimp Chow Mein was not the best but o.k, Mongolian Beef was missing the sauce and had way too much onions. We ordered Orange Chicken and they came out with Lemon Chicken, they are lucky it was edible. I enjoyed their Fried Chicken Wings and asked if they can do "Salted Pepper Chicken Wings" (just like Mandarin Canton in Chula Vista) and to my surprise they were able to pull it off but lacked the "crunch". Overall, this place is nothing to write home about. I don't care about the pink tables either, when I go to a Chinese restaurant, I EXPECT: good, authentic Chinese food, at least medium/large portions, not too pricey and more customers eating inside. That is not the case here, it was empty when we walked in and being the only customers during lunch; we had to ask for water twice, even the glass for water was small (kid size).

So the location--tiny, boring strip mall--doesn't say much for the place, but don't be put off by the exterior (or interior, for that matter). For $6-8, you get a fresh, hot, giant lunch that includes soup, wonton, egg roll, main dish, fried or white rice, and tea. Within 3 minutes of being seated your order is being taken, and within 10 minutes it has arrived, steaming hot and delicious at your table.

This is a great lunch spot. The snow hill chicken or beef are probably my favorites, but their lo mein is also quite good.

Good, solid Chinese food, although on the pricey side.  2 dinners, a half order of eggrolls and a full order of pot stickers (more on that later) cost around $28.  That's a good enough amount of food for 2 hungry adults with a little left over for the next day.  But still $28 is a little pricey.

They get points because the food was, overall, very tasty and not greasy at all.  It tasted fresh and there were plenty of nice, crispy veggies mixed in with the entrees. The eggrolls were vegetarian but solid.  The chicken chop suey dinner was a standout.

Now, as to those pot stickers....they were great.  But they also cost more than $1 per pot sticker and they are not oversized (2 bites' worth tops).  Also, and this was made very, very, very, very, very, very clear to me when I placed my order:  You cannot order a half order of pot stickers.  Got that?  Want a half-order?  F.U.  It ain't happening.  Why?  Cuz the boss man said it ain't happening.  So, you get 8 delicious smallish pot stickers for about 9 bucks.  Would I get them again?  Not for 9 bucks, I won't.

I guess you could say I was hit with sticker shock.  Get it?

I'll come back, especially for the chop suey.  But not for the full order of you know what.

I was in dire need of hot and sour soup (great cure for a cold) and to my utter disbelief Pickup Stix and Panda Express no longer make it. What is this world coming to I ask you?

Now before you say anything I know that PS and PE are not chef d'oeuvre but for a quick hot and sour soup sick run they work....well they used to. :(

So I looked up hot & sour soup and Peking Garden and Chin's popped up. Based on reviews I went to Peking. It is a tiny little place in a strip mall, not that there is anything wrong with that, some of the best places are.

We ordered take-out, the gentleman who took my order recommended the orange peel chicken over just the orange chicken and said my order would be ready in 10 minutes. Now that's fast.

We got the orange peel chicken, pot stickers, and a large hot and sour soup.

The orange peel chicken was excellent, well worth trying, the pot stickers were ok - not great and not bad, but the real disappointment was the hot and sour soup.

I am used to hot and sour soup that is packed with pieces of chicken or pork, shrimp, tofu, egg whites, bamboo shoots, scallions, mushrooms, and topped with crispy noodles (to be added as you eat it so they don't get soggy). This hot and sour is just soup with egg and traces of scallions, bamboo shoots, and mushrooms. Great hot and sour soup should be a meal, unfortunately Peking's hot and sour is not and will not be a soup that I crave to have.

The upside to the soup were the crispy wantons (their crispy noodles)  they were great but ask for an extra bag if you get the large soup one bag is not enough.

I will be going back to try other dishes, that chicken was really good, and I think my review will improve as I try more dishes, but for now I am off to find GREAT hot and sour soup in North County. Do you think that's like searching for the Sasquatch? Let's hope not.

This place as been here for a long time and I have eaten here once or twice a month for close to 15 years. Usually lunch. Today I had Szechuan shrimp and chicken. Egg roll, fried wanton, fried rice and hot and sour soup, and a pot of tea for $7.95. C'mon you're not going to beat that.

This is pretty good and consistent American Chinese food and anyone who makes a comparison to Convoy St. is an idiot. That's like comparing NY pizza to Domino's. It is what it is and it is pretty good for what it is.

Great for a quick lunch. Hot, fast and cheap. You want ambience? Go to Jasmine or even Chin's. There is no question they were decorated by someone who had a surplus of 1960s tablecloths and seat covers. So what?

And for anyone who says Panda is better...are you talking about the place inside Von's? Are you kidding me? All your reviews should be deleted.

Probably deserves 3 stars but I'm giving it 4 for consistently being there all these years and for numerous nostalgic memories that took place there over the years.

So my coworker and I were craving Chinese food, heard this place was nearby and were super excited ... until we tried the food.

Don't get me wrong, I don't knkw how many Asian places there are up here to eat at, but our food had no flavor  :-(  .. and we ordered different things.

I was really hoping to enjoy my garlic chicken for lunch, but I couldn't even taste the garlic. It was drenched on sauce, but even the sauce was bland .. yikes.  I know I wont be coming back here again, even though they do give generous lunch portions!

Today was my fifth or sixth visit to Peking Garden. I dined alone today because at our last visit, my husband made mock gagging sounds and prefers to not go back.

Peking Garden is what you would expect from a strip mall Chinese restaurant. If you go into the dining experience like that, you may not be disappointed. And I do agree with previous reviewers that Peking Garden is a step (albeit, small) up from Panda and actually a better value.

The restaurant is dated...it is decorated with pink leather booths and pink table cloths. If you go at dinner you are rewarded with a green cloth napkin to match the green/red carpet. Service is attentive enough although not overly friendly--more efficient--in and out. Next.

I don't get the feeling that the restaurant is extra clean but it seems adequate. At lunch today, the previous diner had spilled all over the table cloth and they hadn't changed it.

Food is a good value for lunch where tea, soup, an appetizer, rice, entree, and the requisite paper zodiac menu are included in an around $6.50 per plate price. Portion size is large.

The menu is typical. I have tried the garlic chicken, almond chicken, orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, Mongolian beef, etc. The food in general just lacks flavor and inevitably most dishes taste about the same. I would avoid the fried dishes, i.e. sweet and sour because they are over breaded and very sweet and sticky.

The cream cheese wontons are a highlight. Lightly fried and very creamy. Lunch time soups are served hot and are tasty. There is an interesting offering on the menu: New Style Favourites with Fruits. Would be curious to know what that's all about.

This restaurant has a decent lunch crowd and good take out business. I have ordered delivery...it is fast and the food comes hot. They accept cash and checks only for delivery.

I prefer Peking Garden over Chins, Panda Express and most of the other Chinese restaurants in North County. The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious.

I normally order their sweet and sour chicken, Kung pao chicken, or their honey chicken. Their portion size is decent. You will get your moneys worth!

1 Star - they give free tea & fried wonton strips
2 Star - pretty generous portions

Went here for my farewell luncheon, everyone got a different dish from the Lunch menu (1/2 entree, choice of rice or noodle, soup, and egg roll)

All the dishes LOOKED THE SAME!! lol never the less...it was alright.

I ordered the #28 Szechwan Crispy Chicken and it was NOT CRISPY.
The egg drop soup was pretty good tho', they added water chestnuts and carrots in it. made it kinda crispy

Their service was ok. The place is a little small, but good enough for good groups.

Their fortune cookies have fortunes written in Spanish...pretty funny

I really enjoy the food at Peking Garden. On my most recent visit I had the Honey Chicken and it was so tasty. I ate so much there that I was stuffed for days! I see where another yelper or two, compared Peking Garden to Chin's and I would agree with that assessment. However, I would not even dare to compare Chin's to some horrid place like Panda Express.

The service at Chin's is good. My only complaint about Peking Garden is the interior. Ugg, its so bright in there and all of that lighting just highlights how dated the restaurant is. However, invasive lighting and plastic booths will not keep me from enjoying more tasty meals at Peking Garden. Thanks Peking Garden for providing Carlsbad with such a yummy option for Chinese food.

Went based on Yelp reviews.  The whole clan liked it better than Chin's Encinitas.  I think the boys still like Chinatown better - but that's because they can get spaghetting AND potstickers in one place...
Potstickers were just right.  Mongolian beef was tasty but too many onions for me.  Green beans w/black bean sauce were yummmmmmmy!  Hot and Sour soup was just like it should be. We went crazy early (4:45 on a Saturday?) so it was totally empty.
    We'll definitely be back.

    "Gung Ho FAT Guy!"
I was peking at the garden.... so sue me.

Yeah.. I came here for lunch today and sat at one of the booths with my coworker. For about $8 each we got to order from the lunch menu and got not only our meals but:

    * tea
    * soup
    * and choice of noodles or rice with our dish.

I ordered the Orange Chicken and said:  "please, easy on the sauce."
We all know what that sauce is made of... slices of orange, fruit juice, and SUGAR!

You don't fool ME Peking Garden. That stuff'll make you "Gung Ho FAT Guy!"

Anyways.. While waiting for our food (which came fairly fast), we enjoyed reading our place mats that revealed to us the mysteries of the Chinese Horoscope.

Apparently those born in the year of the "Dragon" should never be with those born in the year of the "Dog."  Funny thing is I dated a "Dog." And he was the most toxic relationship I've ever had. The only person I'd consider putting a restraining order on.... (hmm?)

Poor misguided, troubled, and damaged "Dog."

If it weren't for the charming booths and okay food, I'd be putting a restraining order on Peking Garden. Frankly, it's not terrible. But its not so great either. The Orange Chicken I ordered was still swimming in sauce, and the deep fried bits of chicken breast seemed rather greasy and heavy. Even the fried rice left nothing to be desired.... Peking Garden is nothing compared to Pei Wei, PF Chang, or even Panda.... but unlike Panda, you don't get these paper place mats that allow you to validate your feelings about your worst relationship ever.

2 Woofs.. Meh I've had better... and apparently I've had CRAZY MOFO too! Try the Sezchuan Beef and Brocolli with Noodles (it looked good) -- I'd order that next time... if there ever is a next time.

Faded red colors?  (if my memory is serving me right?)
A blast to the 80s decor?!

That said, the restaurant wasn't full on a Friday night, but it was still busy.   And you know what - dinner was good.  We ordered the standard standby dishes - walnut shrimp and chicken curry.   That curry was perhaps the most flavorful I've had.  Walnut shrimp was acceptable.

    *hold my eye itches*

Just moved here - i needed to find a good Chinese restaurant.  I'm pretty picky about Chinese food - guess cause I'm Chinese. So of course, I turned to yelp.  Peking Garden looked like a good one based on the reviews.

I went for lunch with my daughter.  They have daily lunch specials that include soup (hot n sour or egg flower), eggroll, fried wonton and a choice of steamed or fried rice.  I ordered Chicken Lo Mein and Chicken Fried rice for my daughter.

It was pretty good and for the price of $6.50 even better.  The service was good - pretty attentive.  I didn't need to flag down a waiter for water or for the check.

I would definitely go back. Gonna bring the Hubby next time :)

You know what I realized after having lunch at Peking Garden last week?

American Chinese restaurants are a lot like coffee shops.

I don't mean the really great Chinese restaurants that you'll find in a few cities around the US. I'm talking about the garden variety, suburban American Chinese restaurant . A lot like coffee shops: Predictable menus, standardized decor, fast service, nothing exotic or scary on the menu, no real surprises...

I had the Honey Crispy Chicken, with fried rice and hot and sour soup. Not much spicy or very flavorful about any of those items. To be fair, the menu does give you the option of asking for more spiciness in your food. Even if a dish is indicated as being spicy, you have to ask for it to be made spicier to bring it up to the level where you can taste some heat.

The chicken was deep fried nuggets, dressed in a kind of sweet, gloppy sauce. I opted for the fried rice hoping it would be more flavorful than plain rice, but no, it wasn't.

Maybe it was a mistake to order from the lunch specials? Maybe the restaurant's speciality items are the way to go?

The hot and sour soup was probably the best item of an uninspiring group, although, as I think back on it, nothing particulary stands out about it.

As others have mentioned, the service was really polite, friendly and attentive so I give them credit for that, in a world where restaurant service much of the time isn't any of those things.

But, god, if this is the best Chinese restaurant in the area, why not save your Chinese restaurant dining for trips away from here...Or make Chinese at home?

This place is literally a couple of minutes from my front door.  I just moved to La Costa, and I was very desperate for some Chinese food and did not want Panda Express...should gone to Panda instead.  The food was extremely mediocre.  If you want authentic, don't go here.  The food is extremely Americanized.  Panda is more authentic.  The service was also mediocre for a restaurant in La Costa.  But, as soon as we spoke to them in Mandarin, they gave free soup and a free dish...the Chinese hook-up.

This must say something about this place when we receive free food and better service than the regular clients, we still didn't want to return.  We now go to Panda instead because at least their food have a little more flavor.

RUN, don't waste your time.  I rather drive to Dede's on Convoy!

If you live in La Costa, Carlsbad or N. Encinitas you don't have to go far for great Chinese food.

Chinese food is one of my all time favorites and I've enjoyed it from Chinatown in New York to Chinatown in San Francisco and all locals in between.

This place is on the money. We've had the Kung Pao Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Garlic Chicken, Potstickers and the Pork Fried Rice. The dishes are plentiful and full of flavor.

The prices are reasonable for the dishes offered and the place even delivers (at least to our residence) which you don't see a lot of anymore. I thing that is a huge plus.

If you love Chinese food and want to enjoy some really fine Chinese cuisine, then give the Peking Garden a try.

    Bon Appetite !

We get it delivered free at work if we stay late, so I've given it the honest try upwards of 20 times.  But I can't take it anymore, even if it's free I go out and get dinner somewhere else.

I like Asian food a lot, especially Thai, but I don't have a lot of room for bad greasy chinese food, which is what I would characterize this as.

In spite of how many times I have eaten here, it's only been on site once, so I can not fairly comment on the service or atmosphere.

I actually considered not writing this review, because I don't want this place to become SRO when I need to get my Chinese on. But, I am a giver, so here goes.

This is simply the best Chinese restaurant in my neighborhood and probably the best in North County that I have encountered.

The dishes I tend to revolve around are plum tree beef, Szechuan crispy chicken, spicy pork with green bean (the menu is misleading; you actually get lots of green beanS), hot and sour soup (they do it like it is supposed to be done here) and house chow fun.

The restaurant is family owned and operated with nothing but charming people who work hard to ensure each diner's satisfaction.

Again, Chinese food is not a strong suit for North County San Diego, in truth, it's not yet a great culinary city in most regards, but this place rises above all of it's so-called peers.

Great little Chinese place! It's within walking distance which makes it that much better and every time I call they tell "It ready in 10 minute". Good for take out or dining in. The only thing I don't like is that water chestnuts seem to be in everything I eat. Other than that this place is really good. Prices are decent for what you get. The Hunan Beef is very tasty.

I have been going to Peking Garden for years and it's consistently the best "everyday" Chinese food available in North San Diego County.

The staff is always helpful and a pleasure to be around. The food is great standard Chinese fare. If you're looking for that froo-froo gourmet Chinese, this isn't the place for you. It's just good old-fashioned Chinese takeout.

My personal favorites are the Three-Ingredient Taste and also the Cashew Chicken. Their hot and sour soup is also excellent.

They do a ton of take out so the restaurant usually has a table. It's a great place so check it out!

Eh eh eh.... 3 stars is generous, let's just say.

So i got paid tonight and though I could treat me and my roomies to delivery chinese! hooray!

The food was EXPENSIVE, $44 for three entrees and rice. But that seems to be how it is with Chinese.

Delivery was fast, and the food smelled and looked good. Hey, it even tasted...okay. I guess the problem is that it was just all...eh. It was bland. With Kung Pao chicken, fried rice, and beef brocolli on my plate, I couldn't really taste the difference between the dishes.

Oh well, bottom line, too much money on  just okay chinese. Will I try it again? Probably not.

Peking Garden is really good. Not the best I've ever had, but very convenient and all of the dishes were well prepared. I am recommending it to all of my friends.

Chinese food is like crack. I literally just ordered from here about 45 minutes ago and finished my food. I was actually pleasantly surprised. I did my homework to find decent chinese delivery around here and I think I did pretty well. I ordered the crispy chicken wings, orange chicken (which is a tad spicy but I loved it) and the vegetable chow mein. The orange chicken came with steamed rice and everythinIg was flavorful and fresh. They were here in a timely mannor as well, I'd say 25 minutes. My fiance has never ordered in chinese before tonight so I guess I popped HIS cherry. Mwahaha. Yummy American Chinese food with the essence of gods vagina. Americanese is what I will call you. If I could, I'd eat noodles and rice until it came out of my ears. Im drunk. Goodnight.

Good food, average chinese restaruant price.  Very skimpy on the vegetables.  Devlivery speed varies greatly by how busy they are.  Always check your order yourself, they count but I've had stuff missing.  Even had them come back with missing food once, kinda pissed me off so now I look.  But again, good food so we still order from here.

We either eat here or have delivered once every two weeks and it is consistantly the best chinese food we have had in San Diego.  Finding a place that is consistant is very tough.  We loved Double Happiness in Del Mar the first time, but could not get any consistancy on the food or service.  So we are thrilled to have moved to La Costa and find a place so good all the time.  It is in the strip mall across from the Vons Center on El Camino Real in La Costa.  We always get the Hot Sour Soup, Egg Rolls and then we like the Chicken Low Mein, Honey Cripspy Chicken, Beef Broccoli and anything else we have tried.  You can't go wrong and they deliver too!

By far the best Chinese restaurant in our area! The cool part is that they also deliver, and they deliver not some "strange-weirdness-that-you-don't-wanna-eat" but great fantastic delicious food! Fresh, clean, very tasty and perfect! For delivery it would be neatly and nicely packed for you.. Their lunch is not expensive AT ALL (within $10), nor their dinner! There is nothing fancy inside the place, but it is very much how most real Chinese restaurants are: simple, light, with pink tablecloths. Clean. They serve super fast at their restaurant, and if they need to deliver it to your home - you may be need to expect 30 min before you can eat (which is not bad either!). Definitely recommended.

This is the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten at.  You would think that, being that it is run by Chinese people, you would be able to get some decent Chinese food here.  That is not the case.  I work nearby and have tried almost everything on the menu.  Here are my impressions: firstly, this is not authentic Chinese food by any means.  If you want authentic, go to Convoy St.  Secondly, even for "American Chinese" which I thoroughly enjoy, this place sucks.  There is not one good thing on the menu.  The crispy chicken isn't crispy, the orange chicken is drenched in what tastes like a thick artificial corn syrup.  Here's the best one: the "chow mein", which means "fried noodles" in Chinese, and I lived in China for years, isn't fried noodles at all.  It's a plate full of bean sprouts with NO noodles.  When I order chow mein, I want fried noodles, not a plate full of bean sprouts and cabbage.  I asked them about this and they said this is the "American" chow mein.  I come to Chinese restaurants for Chinese food. Don't go to this place unless you want to throw up or pay $10 for some bean sprouts.  Panda express across the street in Vons, will give you a MUCH better meal at half the price.
