Ever since I was introduced to Peg's over 3 years ago I have to go every time I am visiting Reno.  I always get the huevos rancheros that has the most amazing salsa on it.  Their biscuits are fantastic too so next time I will be substituting the tortillas for a biscuit.  Peg's has HUGE plates so bring your appetite!  Great value for what you get.

Breakfast is generally my favorite meal of the day.  I decided to try Peg's with my husband since he said it was pretty good.  The wait pretty much sucks, but as a nice perk, they have a self-serve coffee area in the waiting area.  Out of the several times we have been there, I am always trying something new (usually the special).  My husband always get the eggs benedict (something with spicy hollandaise).  He likes it a lot.  I, on the other hand am not too impressed.

As I've mentioned in other reviews, I am a picky eater.  I hate runny eggs.  I ordered a special eggs benedict, but with the eggs well done.  I told the waitress I could not do runny eggs.  She said no problem.  When I cut into it, the yellow runniness ruined my whole egg benedict.  Thank goodness there were two!  Also, I have come across the same problem as Sarah G...my hash browns were not too done...I didnt ask for them well done, but I would assume hash browns are not supposed to be soggy...Theirs were!  Other breakfast's that I have had here were ok...nothing to write home about.

But, my husband loves the spicy eggs benedict he gets, so I just bite my tongue and go back every time, hoping for something better....

This is THE breakfast spot in Reno.  It's located just south of downtown and the only complaint is that the waits can be a bit long to get a table on the weekend.

Admittedly, I generally go to Peg's to cure a hangover and they serve breakfast until they close around 2pm.

The chicken fried steak and eggs is the best I have ever had.  There is nothing that touches it in the chicken fried steak department anywhere.

Another favorite is the Country Benedict which I discovered on their  specials board one weekend.  Instead of an English muffin, it uses their biscuits that melt in your mouth, and instead of hollandaise sauce, there is gravy. A couple of slices of bacon between the poached eggs and gravy and you have an all too delicious few years taken off your life due to heart disease.  But its worth every bite.

For non-gravy themed items, Peg's has the usual breakfast standards, an amazing huevos ranchero, Chef George's benedict (chorizo and chipotle hollandaise), gorgonzola scramble (with spinach, bacon, gorgonzola mushrooms and onions) and so much more.  Oh, and lunch.

The atmosphere is welcoming and inviting and I  hope when I leave Reno, I'll find somewhere half as good Peg's.

Peg's was darn Tasty

I was out drinking and gambling the night before, so a nice breakfast was just what the doctor ordered, and I'm sure glad we went here.

I ordered the Chicken Fried steak, it was super crispy and delicious, one of the people with us ordered the Glorified ham n eggs  HOLEY MOLEY!  it was huge and had bananas sauted in rum, butter and sugar on top.  It smelled so good. and could have easily fed a small village

oh oh the sliders are fantastic, you can taste the quality of the meat in these not so little jewels.

service was a little slow and I had to ask for more coffee a couple times, but over all it was a really good experience and I will be going back next time I'm in town

It's all about the hollandaise. Sure you can have fresh fruit or a cal-mex style platter with beans and tortillas and eggs and salsa. But the best of the best of the best at Peg's is anything with their fresh made, creamy as hell, unbroken, lemony, paprika sprinkled, egg yolk based, spoon worthy goodness.

I had a breakfast special of the champignon omelette with sauteed mushrooms and onions and some crispy smoked bacon. It came with really crispy hash browns, couple different kinds of toast, and a slice of the most yummy ripe melon ever.

We also ordered a large bowl of freshly sliced fruit. It never came and we weren't charged for it and...that's ok...because we would have never even come close to finishing it.

Prices are a tad high for Reno in my opinion but the value is there - great service, fast food prep, quality grub, and a nice homey atmosphere.

Damn fine Eggs Benedict.  Really tasty.  Perfect lemony hollandaise, just the right amount of ham, perfectly cooked eggs.  My dining partner's crab cakes Benedict was amazing - the hollandaise went even better with his meal than mine!

But my hash browns were not well done (as I'd asked for) and they honestly looked like glorified McDonald's potato patties.  Definitely a frozen patty to start with.  Not what I expected from all the glowing reviews of Peg's.

And the coffee.  Undrinkable.  The quality of the coffee in a breakfast joint is HUGE to me, and Peg's failed miserably.  It was fresh on the Thursday morning I dined there with a co-worker - the pot was full.  But the coffee was acidy, with no depth of flavor.  Really awful, and darn-near ruinous to my breakfast experience.

But the service was friendly and attentive, the decor was nice, and the menu was quiet varied.  I can see why this place would be packed on a weekend.

Would I go back?  Sure.  But I'd skip the coffee (at breakfast?  uug.) and look for something else to go with my eggs ben.

EH MAH GADDDDDD ROOK AT THE XXXL LARGE PLATES!!! I was really scared when I first walked into Pegs. The plates weren't plates, they were hub caps from stolen cars. And you know, in RENO, usually with large quantity, comes poor quality. When the friendly looking lady handed me the hellza large plate filled with food, my heart started thumping, just like the time I watched "i know what you did last summer". Looks can be deceiving, you can never know what kind of food these smiley people are serving you.  I slowly picked up a bite with my fork... AND.. *THUMP THUMP*...  I swear da gah, I'm not a big girl, but I ate every bite. It was 1. Derishus 2. Scrumptious 3. Yummy. I had a strong urge to lick off the plate after I was done. Its goodddd:D

Don't get me wrong, this place is good - but its not everything the reviews made it out to be. Had I come in with no expectations, I would have absolutely been satisfied, but it was so hyped up that I was almost disappointed. Four stars at best!

According to Esquire Peg's Glorified Ham N Eggs offers some of the best breakfast in the country, 13th to be exact.  I've eaten a lot of breakfast so I am not quick to agree plus I wonder to myself how much of that unbridled love is due to the kitsch related to the town itself with its countless bygone era neon motel signs and quarter slots and not necessarily the eggs.

Turns out this place is just as beloved to locals as it is to the gawking city folk. Framed articles from Reno bi-weeklies paper the walls and girls in pajamas maybe from the university sit texting, eating and gossiping. It's 10:30 on a Saturday and packed I order a veggie omelet and immediately regret that I didn't get bacon. Somehow the toast is the best I've eaten and the veggies redeem themselves with freshness and crispness.

The author expressed that one of Reno's qualities is that you are off the grid when you are here. I can see that.  You can walk outside and not be crowded, you can look around and not recognize one thing.

Peg's is good but I cant help but think that the sheer fact that it is in Reno is what makes it so great.

No it is not one of the best in the country. But it is good for what it is. I do not find the food overly inspired or executed to the best ability, but it is good for what it is. It at time takes quite a while to get your food and at other times it is right there. The staff is always nice and trying to do well. No for me not the best, but it is good for what it is..... hmmmm did I say that already?

I am not a morning person.  When it comes to breakfast, I don't want to step out on a ledge.  I want good service, good food, and not a lot of bells or whistles.

The worst Peg's has ever done on a trip is forget a glass of juice until reminded, pour one mug of lukewarm coffee, have a 20 minute wait, or have slow-ish service (two or three times).  So out of dozens of trips, they've offered a less-than-stellar experience maybe half a dozen times.

The food is very good.  The service is very good.  The owners are friendly and take pride in their work.  Most of all, they are consistently very good.  In this day and age, that makes them excellent!

My boyfriend loves the Chef George's Benedict.  I've meandered around the menu, but I keep coming back to the classic Benedict.  Their drip coffee is very good, and so are their lattes.  The fruit is always beautifully fresh (whether the melon on your breakfast plate or a side order)

I love Peg's.  It is one of my favorite places to eat breakfast, and when family or friends come to town, this is where I take them for their first morning fare.  The servings are big enough to easily split and still feel full, and the food is simply amazing.  Be aware:  there will be a wait because it is seriously the best breakfast in Reno, hands down.

When we ever move away from Reno, this is one of the things I will miss the most.  The best breakfast in Reno, and the second best breakfast I've had anywhere (sorry, Pegs, but The Original Pancake House beat you out).  Husband and I have our birthday breakfasts here every year, and whenever we have out-of-town guests, a trip to Pegs is mandatory.  The giant crowds you will encounter any day of the week is testament to the blissful deliciousness that is Pegs.  Happily, they put out coffee for the patient hordes.

I cannot possibly choose a favorite dish to recommend, it's hard enough for me to decide what to order, and every visit entails a tortured decision on my part.  The Huevos Rancheros are amazing, but sometimes I just crave gravy and I need a Country Benedict fix.  I also love the Salmon Scramble and the Crabcake Benedict.  It's just all good, m'kay?

Oh, and they have a lunch menu, too, but I've never bothered.  Peg's is for breakfast, and that is that.

I had breakfast twice here when i was in Reno.

i heard about this place  from an article in Esquire, and it totally lived up to their hype!

Service is a little slower than it should be, but the food is fantastic!

I love their pancakes!

I will definitely go back here next time I'm in Reno!

One of usual breakfast spots we hit when we're in town. There's often a wait on weekend mornings since the restaurant is pretty popular and not huge (but not too small). They do provide coffee outside, though, while you wait. I usually get some sort of scramble. Today I had the vegetable frittata, which was good but a little heavy on the onions and cheese. They let you substitute a small bowl of fruit for the hash browns if you ask.

I like this place, but it's a breakfast joint and it would have to be pretty spectacular or special or outstanding in some way to get 4 of 5 stars. I'll continue to go here and enjoy their food and definitely recommend them.

Peg's rules the breakfast roost in reno. Other than the awful decor that totally sells out the cool outside retro logo/ signage and glassblock, they have excellent service and great, consistent food. All my faves always come exactly the same- how i  ordered it! Number one rule of any restaurant is being consistent...I hate places that are hot one day and then cold the next. Keep it the same all the time.
That's McDonald's game plan and look where it got them.

Pegs! Pegs!
Oh what can I say about Pegs???
It is my favorite breakfast spot EVER!
especially when I am hung over.
If you love eggs benedict, you will LOVE Pegs. . Or Hueveos Rancheros. Or a nice home-grown local breakfast hot spot where the staff is nice and breakfasts will make you cry they are so wonderful.
PEGS!!! I know why your eggs are glorified.

My Reno friends introduced me to Peg's and the one thing that brings me back is their Nature's Bonanza!

I must admit, it doesn't actually look all that visually appealing.  And I'm not even sure if the texture is all that nice in your mouth either, but there's just something special about it.

What the heck is in a Nature's Bonanza you ask?  This is how they describe it: "A perfect blend of rolled oats, yogurt, dried apricots, nectarines, dates, raisins, sliced almonds, walnuts, pineapple & raw honey.  Topped with seasonal fresh fruit."  For $6.50, it's a hearty meal, and maybe too much for just one person.  (I've never finished one by myself.)  My favorite bits are when you get a scoop with a piece of apricot in it, oh yum!  The BF was a bit hesitant as well, but I saw him opening his mouth up for more!

Of course, if that sounds a bit too healthy for you, you can always get the ham and eggs, benedicts, skillets, omelettes, scrambles, pancakes, burgers, salads, sandwiches, fish and chips, and what they call "Monterey Style Lunch", which includes tacos, fajitas, and pork chops.

They are only open for breakfast and lunch, and each time I come by, it's a busy little place that's bustling with hungry eaters and take out orders.  So, go ahead and give it a try.  Let me know if you end up trying the Nature's Bonanza!

Sidenote: They charge $1.00 for splitting your order.  There's also another location at 6300 Mae Anne Avenue in Reno.

Update! 12.18.07 - Had a chance to visit Peg's again during a recent visit to Reno and we got to dine in.  One Nature's Bonanza for myself, thank you!  The BF ordered up a Chorizo Scramble ($8.99) that came with bell peppers, & onions, and a side of hash browns.  Another friend ordered one of their Monterey Skillet Breakfasts, the Peg's Glorified Huevos Ranchero ($8.50) that came with hash browns, cabbage slaw, fresh pinto beans, black bean corn salsa, and warm tortillas.  You definitely get your bang for the buck with those skillets!  They are heaping portions and pretty tasty stuff!

(You can find pics of our grubbing in the business profile section!)

Good decent breakfast, obviously popular with often a wait in line....not great but ok, portions not huge but adequate (these are supposed to be huge portions? what are you guys used to, especially in a casino town with buffets full of high quantity and low quality food.) Friendly service, no complaints, but not really exceptional unless you're only used to Denny's breakfasts.

I wasn't as impressed as others are.  But then, it could be that I just didn't order the right items, or that it was an off day. I ordered a chicken-fried-steak breakfast. which was served promptly. However, sprinkling nutmeg on the steak, gravy and eggs ruined the breakfast. I found the scrambled eggs to be lacking in any flavor, but the hash-browns were quite good. But what really ruined the meal, was the never-ending flow of burnt-tasting coffee. The flavor I can only describe as being Folger's coffee that was salvaged from the kitchen of a building that had caught fire. The service was prompt, accommodating, and quite friendly.

I'll give it another try, and order something else. But as it stands right now, I was not impressed, and could have had a much better breakfast at a casino buffet for the same price.

After some serious snoeshowing, this is the place to load up breakfast calories.  Peg's was by far the best part of being in Reno, which probably is one of the uglier cities in the US, a tragic scenario when one considers the beautiful backdrop of snowy mountains and green valleys that look like scenery from a Western epic.  The place is nothing to look at from outside, and inside there are your usual plastic and naughahyde booths, but the breakfast platters are huge.  Fresh chile rellenos, and feathery light eggs benedict.  This place beats the pants off most breakfasts in SF, and with less waiting and for fewer dollars.    Deep breakfast satisfaction, where one feels warm and nourished by plenty of egg protein, can be found here.

My boyfriend lives in Reno, and he took me here.  It was fun - apparently it's a favorite local breakfast spot.

The ambiance is a very comfortable diner feel.  In my opinion, the perfect type of place to fight off a hang-over.  They give you a ton of food, and there are some interesting options on the menu - his favorite is the Chorizo Eggs Benedict with Chipotle Hollandaise Sauce...I went with a little less adventurous option: an omelet, but it passed my stringent test.
