This is my main Peet's in the neighborhood. It's easy to get in and out of and the staff is efficient. No dilly-dally. Just good coffee and a place to sit down.
I love Peets. This Peets makes the best coffee ever! They know what they are doing and they give amazing service.
Yeah, so I used to work here. I can often be found on the bench near the barista, chatting with Elyse and Max, or pretending to read my library book. You would think that, after my tour of duty was complete, the last place I would want to go is back to the Peet's from which I came. Wrong. This Peet's has the friendliest customers I have EVER met in many years of coffee-related customer service jobs in the South bay.
For one, they are so cooperative in line. There are abundant please's and thank you's even in the early morning when Daniel is rushing to get everyone's drinks out on time. They are also very caring and concerned with the lives of those behind the counter-not something you find often. These people give birthday presents, $100 tips at the mention of car troubles, wedding invitations, discounts at their work, and going away presents when their favourite barista moves on.
Also, the people who work the bar here are the best I've ever seen. They are fast, thorough, and the mistakes are few. Daniel works in the mornings and as far as I'm concerned, he should be CEO of this company. He works so hard, memorises drink orders, and loves all the morning folk.
I miss those customers. I miss my coworkers too, but honestly, it's not like I can't call them up and meet them for drinks down the street. But the people who I used to see every day and with whom I'd get to share maybe five minutes of conversation are the ones I wish I could bring with me to my new job; Bonnie and Ron, Nate, Paul, Medium Coffee Boy, all the Rambus dudes, Mary x3, Lauren, Karen x2, John x4, you guys rule. Come visit me.

I think the day I went to this Peet's may have been an off day for them, but I didn't have a good time. Their computer lines were down so you couldn't pay with credit card-- no biggie.
I went around 8-9 AM and while it was empty when I first arrived, it became packed full of people and extremely noisy. I was also sitting near the door which kept letting in the cold breeze. Not a good studying situation.
I thought that the coffee was not great. I am not used to Peet's since I just moved from SoCal but I was expecting better tasting coffee. I think if you like it strong, it might be good for you, but I found it to be rather bitter.
Sorry, Peet's, I'll have to catch you at another location. This one is vetoed.

I have often stopped in at this Peet's on my way to work. Though I always like the coffee, I was very disappointed by the customer service I experienced there recently. After giving me incorrect change for a $20 bill, the cashier was adamant that she had been correct. In addition to raising her voice, she was generally contemptuous and completely unwilling to believe that she had made a mistake. Because she made this scene, I lost interest in resolving the problem and I just left. The loss of $10 is not horrible, but I was pretty irked by the way I was treated at this Peet's.
Curse Peet. He broke my coffee virginity when I worked there for 5 years in high school and college. Now, I'm poor as hell and yet I refuse to drink instant-nastiness because I was weaned on all-you-can-drink gourmet.
The two stars is for THIS LOCATION ONLY. The pros: short lines, relatively clean, good location. The cons: it's NEW, and therefore 75% of the employees are CLUELESS.....
"I'd like a tall latte, single shot, extra foam" (listen.... after 5 years you start knowing what you like)
"A.... what?"
"single shot.... extra foam...TALL"
*eyes darting nervously* ..."....um...... okay..... hang on....."
[15 minutes later]
"Miss, here's your single short latte"
Half the time, I forgive the 10 minute+ waits although there are only 2 people in line, just because I remember the a*shole customers at my old store (downtown LA). Half the time, I fight the urge to jump behind the counter and pull the freakin shots myself.
** Note: Review written 1/2007...... give it a few more months for quality, but it's still decent for pit-stops on El Camino.

Peet's coffee is for those who like their coffee strong, delightfully bold, and non-frilly. Peet's blows Starbucks away in the quality of their brew, and given the choice, I will choose Peet's.
The staff at this particular location are hip and friendly. My name was written in chocolate on the top of my latte, which brightened my day a bit. They have a bit of a sarcastic and humorous edge to their customer service, which I personally enjoy, but that may put some folks off.

Peet's is my favorite joe in the Bay Area. I visit this location about 3x a week. This location was recently renovated (Late 2006) and now has a nice area to sit down. It is very crowded on weekends so you will have trouble finding a seat. The is a park across the street so you can ake your goodies over to a bench on nice days. The staff is friendly and has served me well.
Peets is the mother of all coffee shops. If you are serious about coffee, come to Peets. The quality of coffee here is far superior to Starbucks and others. Order a latte and you will immediately see what I mean. The espresso has a super rich flavor and the microfoam is thick and silky. Their standard cup of Joe is basically jet fuel. If you like good coffee but don't like it too strong, order it iced. The ice cubes will dillute the coffee a bit and make it much more drinkable. Peets even offers simple syrup for use in their cold drinks as sugar won't melt in anything cold. They know their stuff !! Peets is also the best place to buy coffee beans as the quality is superb. Their Espresso Forte is especially good for home espresso machines. Also noteworthy are the Garuda and Major Dickenson roasts.
I was introduced to Peet's in Berkeley many years ago. There's a lot of really good coffee shops in Berkeley, but even there Pete's stands out for its the very good beans for sale and the excellent brewed coffee. Very strong, but not bitter.
I mainly go to this location for beans which are usually quite fresh. As a nice touch, they give a complimentary cup when you buy the beans (all the stores do this).
The brewed coffee is strong, but not as strong as compared to their shops in Berkeley. Still the taste is ok.
As with all the Peet's shops, there's at least one worker who really knows the various types and blends they have and can make recommendations if you ask.
They're located in the same parking lot as Chef Chu's on San Antonio and El Camino
