I love the coffee here. I love the iced lattes the best.
But sadly enough, last week I went in really wanting a raspberry mocha, and they didn't have raspberry. I wanted to cry but luckily the counter gal said hey how about peppermint mocha! Ahhhh....
I don't really pay any attention to the staff as long as the coffee is good, at least at this place I don't.
It's surprisingly inexpensive, although it's very mean to put the calories up there, like I really needed to know that.

OK, so if you are choosing between Starbucks, Tullys (going out of business) and Pete's, Pete's wins hands down.  Great beans, great service, always clean, great varieties of beans.  If on the other hand, you are searching out the best in coffee for Seattle, these guys are good, not the best.  Listen, I know my coffee.  If you are a latte fan, there are many other places you MUST go to.  This is a great "regular" place.  I googled the highest rated coffee shops in King County and went to the top ten.  This one certainly in the top ten.

Peet's feels like the starbucks for a more sophisticated group. The coffee was pretty good and the people were pretty nice butthe whole thing felt like the shop was being pulled two ways. One wanting to be the chillax coffee shop of Cap. Hill and the other trying to catch back up with SBucks. Stop in if you don't know where else to go but there are much better shops all around here.

I've stopped in here a few times and have had consistently good experiences.  They don't make my favorite coffee, but I think they're pretty good (definitely better than a certain local coffee giant) and they are very conveniently located for me when I'm running errands on Broadway.  On a hot afternoon like today's their iced coffee was exactly what I needed to keep me going--and it was under $2, which is nice in this frakked-up economy.

I like this coffee shop because it has the best REGULAR coffee and it opens at 6 AM.  The regular coffee here is stronger than the other places.  Nice staff and seemingly crowded most of the time because its on Broadway.

Every time I go to this place, the baristas/staff don't ever seem to want to be there or are so pre-occupied gossiping with each other.  There's no sense of urgency, they don't seem to care about their customers.  There are too many coffee shops on Broadway, let alone Seattle, for them to not focus on repeat customers.
It's too bad that I will never return because I really wanted to give them a chance.

Did no one tell these people?

Seeing a Peets Coffee on this corner is kind of like seeing an acquaintance with spinach in their teeth or their underwear peeking out. You feel like you ought to tell them, but you don't think that *you* should be the one to have to do it. Doesn't this Peets have friends???

Ok, if your friends aren't going to tell you, I will: You are surrounded by coffee shops that are wayyyy better than you. This wasn't a good choice. This isn't a good location. We've got Vivace across the street, Victrola up and down the hill, a Cafe Vita, and two brand spanking new Stumptowns. Who in their right mind is going to go to Peets?

I guess the hill somehow supports 3 Starbucks, so what do I know about corporate real estate.

I would rather come here any day than Vivace or Starbucks.  They have a better selection of tea and other drinks and the staff is friendly and full of personality and they obviously like working here and with each other.  Outdoor seating in the summer time and free wifi.....

Service is mediocre
Coffee is ... not even close
Pastries are plain flavorless
and their outside tables have become the riff-raff bench
They get 1 star cause vivace closed and they have a restroom
So if you don't think you can make it to Coffee Online or Starbucks then come and Pee, at Peets.

Let me start with....I'm not a coffee snob, I'm just a regular coffee addict. I don't have to drink fancy coffee drinks all the time. A regular drip from a Ma and Pa mini mart sometimes would do the trick for me. But I can tell if a cafe is bad if they have bad drip coffee.Does the employees drink their own coffee? So damn gross.

It was a nice Saturday morning, sun shining and birds chirping. I decided to get a cup of coffee and take a walk around Carl Anderson park. I got my coffee at Peet's, added my splash of half & half and started to walk towards the park. Sat down on the bench and took a sip of my coffee.

:spit-cough-spit:

WTF! It tasted like dirt, seriously it does. I can tell cause I tried dirt when I was a kid and Peet's coffee tasted like dirt. I could have walked back and created some drama, like maybe throwing my drink down in the middle of their floor. But I've been there, been a Barista and all. I know sometimes shit happens and someone might have put an extra scoop of ground coffee or whatnots in the pot. So I just sadly threw away my cup and walked my sad ass home.

But the people that work there is nice so I gave it another chance. Ordered an iced coffee. Again, it was disgusting. So one more try...ordered a latte...still gross. 3 strikes and you're out!

I was going to give it a one star but the employees are nice and they get a two star for that.

Well, there it is... Lindi beat us all to the first review!

So... went to Peets to try out the new place today, but also went there because we had 2 for 1 drink coupons today! :o) The tea that I had was excellent! It was the only rare tea that they had on the menu - Jasmine Pearl something or other (the name escapes right now - I'll try to edit this later *S*) and the barista brought it out to me w/ cup, strainer, and pot in tow.

The only fault I saw was the "new employee" syndrome that seemed to take over all the employees. They didn't really know the register yet, forgot Michael's drink, but were still quite accomodating.

I'm sure I'll be back.

awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome!

I went to Peet's, ordered the most delicious Caramel Macchiato I've had in a long time, and sat down to spend the next 4 hours writing my art history paper.  This place was the perfect location for that!

Great classical music playing overhead, steady stream of foot-traffic (this shop is in the perfect location!), and best of all, the baristas obviously really LOVED their jobs there!  They were constantly making conversation with the customers, quickly getting the orders processed, letting people try different samples...  very professional and very fun employees!

I'm very happy that it appears that Peet's Coffee is there to stay!

I grew up with Peets(Yes I'm a geezer) back in the Bay Area. I guzzled hundreds of gallons of their coffee long before anyone in California had heard of Starbuck's. But if this Peets location were my first experience I'd run for the hills and never come back.

I've been here twice now and both times were like a textbook on how not to get repeat business. On my first visit the problem was with both the cashier and the customer. There was some sort of bizarre Abbot and Costello routine revolving around how he'd tried to use a gift card that didn't have enough money on it so the cashier also had him  use a credit card for the balance(40 cents). Apparently he didn't like this, and she couldn't figure out a solution and this literally went on for 5 solid minutes until I finally gave up and went to Vivace instead.

Today the place was empty but between the cashier and two baristas it took 10 minutes to make my latte. Apparently the more important question was whether they should play Hip-Hop or Emo(you'll be happy to know that Hip-Hop won because "it's fun, not depressing like Emo"). I'm not sure what the deal was but the Barista just literally stared at the espresso machine for a couple of minutes, maybe some new pyschokinetic method?

With one of the best coffee joints in town acrosss the street, this place is almost completely irrelvant already. So with service like this I'm guessing it won't be long before the doors are locked forever and the windows are covered with posters for Peace Rallys and bad movies.

Decent.  I probably would go to a few other places before going here.  Not too many sugar free flavors.

However, the employees are very nice and cool.  Thumbs up to them.

By the looks of these reviews, people who enjoyed Peet's Coffee before, enjoy this place now. I just left the establishment merely minutes ago and I don't plan on returning unless Vivace, Caffe Vita, Tully's and other coffee joints on the hill are closed down. Actually no, I'd probably enjoy 7-11 coffee better than this place. YUCK!

I ordered an iced mocha. It tastes like I've got watered down coffee grounds. Did that guy even put chocolate in my drink? It's not sweet at all.

The only positive thing I can say is they have nice decor, but I can't drink the decor. I ordered a chocolate chip cookie and a blueberry scone, but those are delivered so they can't help this rating.

Boo!!!! A big BOO for Peet's on Capitol Hill. What the hell was I thinking?

So, every time Ive come in, ive always gotten a reeeaaaaalllllyy good cup of coffee. Like, just as good as what WAS served 2 Vivace before it closed down. This place is always spotless, or damn near close to it, and yes, while the pastries may be lacking a bit, the only time I ever bought them was when I had night classes and was hungry, but didnt have any cash for a Deluxe and two frie from Richards (dicks for the ones not hip to the nicknaming jazz) down the street. The people in the morning are cool, pretty quick, and theres a really cute black guy that works there too (dont know if he still is, havent gone since spring quarter ended).

I'm a Peetnick...I love Peet's Coffee. It is the richest full bodied coffee I've ever had. Peet's gets my engine moving so I can start my day on the right track. Let your next move be your Peet's Groove and it will all be Smooth. I also appreciate that the the employee's are laid back and don't have to wear Kermit The Frog suits.

So, I was standing on the corner of Broadway and Denny this morning (off-duty) and was trying to decide whether to go to Peets or Vivace to get some coffee to help me wake up after a long night of watching TV. Then, I thought, perhaps nobody has reviewed this new Peets yet! And because I have a problem and feel like my life will be that more much valid if I have another "First to Review" star - I ran into Peets, ordered my coffee, ran home (ok, I walked quickly because we all know it's impossible to run with coffee) and here I am! Yes! First to review, bitches! Bwahahaha.

Note to self: Do not cackle with coffee in your mouth.

Anyway, I am so happy that this space is being used for something worthwhile. After the last African import store closed down, I swore I'd do something violent if another import store, exactly like it, opened up just like it had been for the past year or so. "We're going out of business" they'd say one week and the next week they'd have a "Grand Re-Opening". Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against African imports. In fact, I try to support local businesses! I even went there to buy some pillow cases for the "Shisha Room" my old roommate and I were planning on making. We found some pillow cases that would have been perfect...only they were $40 each and this was during one of their going out of business/liquidation/grand re-opening sales. Needless to say, we gave up on the Shisha Room and made a Music Room instead (which pretty much just consisted of a wall decorated with magazine cut-outs of hot band dudes and a few tickets stubs).

But, I digress. Back to the coffee......

Compared to all of the other "chain" coffee shops (this includes you, Stumptown) this is probably my favorite - and not only because it's the closest coffee shop to my house. I walked in and it was very spacious and welcoming. They were playing some classical music rather than those God-awful Starbucks tunes. The gals working at the counter were really nice and friendly and actually engaged in conversation. (Crazy, right!?)  Plus, the coffee was actually good and didn't taste like burning. They even use quality products like Scharffen Berger chocolate, too. The drip is brewed every 30 minutes (or less) and for you lactose intolerant/hippies, they offer soy to go in it, as well as half and half, non-fat and whole milk. Along with the honey they even have simple syrup!! But, I think this is for the tea drinkers. Well, if I were you, I wouldn't put it in my coffee. The line goes much quicker than at neighboring Vivace (but don't worry you're STILL my favorite) and is a great place to go whether you want to grab it and run home for some silly reason or you want to sit and relax and not have to listen to some loud and/or crappy music. They even have tables and chairs outside so you can admire the newest tag on the side of the post office.

Since Vivace is next door and their coffee IS the best (IMHO), I don't see myself coming here that often - well, until Vivace moves (bastards). But, I can totally see it being one of those places to go when I don't feel like waiting in line for 15 minutes to get a decent cup of joe.

Oh and just a note: Their "medium" coffee is HUGE. Excuse me, while I go pee for the THIRD time.

OK....bias disclosure.....I am a former employee of Peets.  As you can see from my rating, I am hardly disgruntled.

That being said, here's why Peets is a great addition to Cap Hill:

Bean quality:  exceptional.  Though the dark roasting method for which Peets is so famous can be off putting to diner coffee aficionados, it can, with high quality beans, bring out a complexity available in few other coffees.
Service: Very knowledgeable employees....so they don't make cute little designs in their lattes for which baristas at Zoka have won awards...they make good drinks.  Notice the manually operated espresso machines?  Take a close look at the vast majority of "independent" coffee shops (Ladro) in Seattle...they use automatics!  Much less drink quality control.  Plus Peets is VERY invested in constant product training.
Atmosphere:  While they sell stuff, you don't have to take the cone-drivers-test serpentine route to the counter like you have to at S$.  it's uncluttered.
Non-coffee items:  Scharfenberger chocolates and quite possibly the finest tea selection in ANY city, among other fun things.
Freshness:  Personal experience as an employee: drip coffee is TIMED.  When that timer goes off in 30 minutes, the coffee is chucked and a new batch is made.  Beans in the bin are replaced every 84 hours...they get 2 overnight shipments a week from the Bay Area roasting plant.  The leftovers are given to charity, either whole beans or ground!

Funny how Cap Hill people decry "chain" stores but then head for Whole Foods to buy their dinner. There are 3 categories of chains: lowest-common-denominator (Dunkin Donuts, McDs), marketing behemoths (Starbucks, Safeway), or do-it-the-right-way-with-the-highest-possible-qual ity-and-cost-ingredients-and-take-good-care-of-you r-employees (Peets, Whole Foods, In-N-Out).

Nobody should be ashamed that this shop is on Cap Hill.  Yay!

Tis no secret, I love Peet's Coffee, and now that I know there is one on Broadway (Thank you Michelle!), I love it even more. I love it even more because, on the days I have to go the the lab on Cherry Hill for a bloodletting to test my heart and cholesterol levels, you know,  when I have to fast the night before and drink water instead of my cup of home-brewed Peet's, I can afterwards go just a mile away to Peet's on Broadway for my sick and savory passion. Life is good!

This place is dead inside.  I dont' care about the polaroids.  As soon as I walked in I was consumed by a dread, a sadness that only comes from empty retail space.  And Peet's on Broadway has lots, and lots of empty retail space.  It's a void that is designed to do one thing, hold lines of in-and-out commuters on their way to school or work.  The tables are smallish and not condusive to hanging out and enjoying your coffee - feels like a fast food restaurant.  Unlike Vivace across the street, Peet's invites you in and kicks you right back out onto the streets again once they've sold you your whatever.  Great coffee though!
