Great location, coffee but slow service. It's sometimes hard to get in the front door - beware of tangled doggie leashe, really expensive bicycles and strollers. It definitely for a long leiurely cup of coffee where you have time to kill. I definitely notice the place clearing out on off times but then it's often hard to find someone to help you!
i left my heart at Peet's coffee.
Coffee? so good.
Line? not so good
Doggies outside? ooyeee gooyee cutie patooieee.
This place is a fucking joke.
It takes a half hour to get your drink order some days. Others, you get your order in five (Peet's standard is that drinks are sent out in less than five, ideally three minutes), but it's really messed up.
This is the most disorganised Peet's I have ever stepped foot in. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra 1.2 miles to the El Camino store.

Coffee here quite often tastes burnt. Barristas also have a hard time keeping up with the pace. They shoudl work in the Berkeley store for a few weeks to get trained in real busy-ness before being let loose here where they seem overhwelmed when they have more than 2 customers at a time.
That being said, it's still Peet's coffee and I LOVE Peet's coffee! Ever since I switched to deacf, it's pretty much the only coffee I'll drink because their decaf tastes like real coffee.

Love Peet's coffee. Hate the service here. I usually have to stand in line for several minutes while my dogs wait alone on the sidewalk just to get some brew coffee. One day I ordered an espresso drink and I realized what the hold-up was. The barrista had my order in front of him, but he felt compelled to take a little break and socialize between orders and distract the rest of the staff. This ground (NPI) the whole place down to a slow crawl.
Like it or not, Peet's is commercial. It's not the local independent coffee house where you go to chill out. The staff needs to realize that the customers like the coffee better than Harbucks, but also don't always want to linger.
I've loved Peet's since the early 90s when I visited from Seattle. The coffee gets 5 stars, but the service drags the overall experience down to 2. Sorry guys.
If you want to relax amidst a sea of weekend warriors decked out in lycra bicycling gear while enjoying a strong cup of java, come here on a weekend!
Shatangi helped open this store in 1988(ish). Peets still has the best coffee and tea selection in the bay area. Eons later, the staff is still friendly and knowledgeable. Way to keep it real!!!

I lurve Peet's. The coffee is strong and tasty the way coffee should be. The service, however, can be iffy although I do like the somewhat (IMHO) alterna-vibe I get. I feel as though I belong and not because I color my hair in interesting eye-catching shades, but because I have a piercing in a spot other than the usual ear.
I digress.
I have been to the Los Altos Peet's a few times. The first time, I had an iced coffee that was too die for. Literally, I thought I would die if I drank it. So I returned it, the Peet's guy did a taste test, after much and twisted explanations back and forth, we both agreed I needed something else. So, he gave me regular coffee with ice and an iced Americano to please me and soothe my coffee-needing soul. My friend questioned my new caffeine double-fisting technique, but, I drank both gratefully and quickly.
Another time, I asked for an iced Americano with about *this* much water and alotta ice. I saw the other Peet's guy lift a cup with alotta water and no ice. Before I could stop him, he poured my beautiful espresso into some nasty tap water. I complained to my friend and was overheard by a Peet's QA/auditor who promptly got me an Americano the way I like it and 4 free drink cards!!
The next time I went back, the Peet's guy made my drink and then nervously asked my friend if it was done right. I am here to say, yes Peet's guy, you did it right!
5 stars for coffee with different strong tastes + 4 stars for employee banter -2 stars for the awkward set up of the place + 1 star for the number of bikers in spandex on a weekday morning around 9:30a = 4 stars

First off...I love Peet's product...superb coffee.
What I don't understand is the service. I know they grind everything to order blah blah blah. But repeatedly I have seen employees out number customers in line, yet I still loose 10-15 minutes of my life waiting for my drink. I tend to agree with Bill Maher that the longer your drink order...the bigger asshole you are. So I keep it simple...Medium Americano with room. If your coffee bar challenged thats espresso and hot water...thinking any primate with somewhat higher brain function can pull that one off. However, time after time I am able to nibble away on my muffin or breakfast pastry until it is all gone before the aroma of my americano wafts into my beak...
So you guessed it, great coffee, great pastries (Blackberry Hazelnut muffin is how I like to get down)...tortoise-esque service.

Coffee is the same (yummy) in all locations - most of my bike rides start and end here -- I frequent a few Peet's on regular basis and the service is SLOWEST at this location. Staff is always friendly, but drinks take ages!! Seriously, I've waited over 10 minutes for a latte under normal conditions (not packed!!).
