Unfortunately, I'm docking a star for this hotel. Reasons:
1. Delivery-the front desk asked us to come down to pick up toiletry items rather than the staff bringing it up to us (only time I've encountered this - even lower priced hotels deliver items)
2. Heating- they have an old heating/a/c system. There is no way to get a comfortable temperature which makes me for an uncomfortable night.
3. Wake-up call - the wakeup call I scheduled for an interview was 45 min late!!!
4. Staff - the concierge/bellhop and gentleman at the front desk were very helpful and personable; however, one of the woman they have at the desk is rather cold and unfriendly (a hotel is supposed to be hospitable, right?!?)

Comfortable hotel with a friendly staff and hospitable touches. They have wine and cheese tasting on W from 4:30-5:30 which is really nice considering the alcohol rules here. The fitness center needs updating, but other than that, this hotel is a good choice. It was very affordable since I was interviewing with U of Utah, and they have special rates. Parking prices have increased.
Friendly staff but the place could use a bit of an update. It's location is great but they don't own the parking lot so you get $10 a night parking charge. They're pet friendly but I think it's a $25 one time fee which makes sense for the extra cleaning. I wish the lamps on the night stands had outlets! I had to crawl under the desk to plug in my laptop. I'll stay here again as I like the location and it's charming. They've got hot tea and coffee in the AM, the WSJ and USA today, bar/restaurant attached, and Wednesdays is Mgr's day which I guess means wine and hors douvres. And they've got memory foam mattresses which I really liked. Very comfy!
We just stopped in to look for a room.. The place is " tired " they quoted us $180. Per night with a dog and from the looks of the front desk I could tell we did not want a room. Papers and junk every where. Heck that is the price of a room at the Monaco and that place rocks.
Well-appointed, though small, rooms in a historic building in downtown Salt Lake. The staff is friendly and attentive; personal touches make the experience worth it. The Peery is reminiscent of an older time in a small town--the bellhop is also the valet and the concierge (I am not making this up), but instead of coming off as pedestrian, it is charming. It's within walking distance of all major attractions and restaurants in the downtown area. My only complaint is that the Peery should foot the bill for parking. Instead, there is a charge for parking per night. Now, in cities like San Francisco, this makes sense because parking is difficult at best... But, in Salt Lake City? I don't think so, honey.
I stayed here a few years ago and loved the historic old building. The room was smaller, but decorated nicely, was clean, and cozy. It is within walking distance to some good restaurants. The only downside is that you have to pay for parking, either in a lot or valet. I remember valet was only 1-2 dollars more than the lot.
Charming hotel smack dab in the middle of downtown Salt Lake City. Very 1920's feel to the rooms - small and cozy, with the sink in the room and a separate bathroom off to the side. Since they are going for that historical schtick, I guess it works. Great rates if you get the room on sale (I got a summer rate of $63/night) and they will match any rate listed on the internet - so look up all those http://hotels.com and priceline rates, then call the hotel to get them to match it, no strings or pre-paying attached. The one thing that does suck is that they charge $9 for parking (valet and self-park are the same price). I only saw metered parking everywhere around the area, so I'm not sure if you can find free parking anywhere. All meters are free on Sunday, though, so keep that in mind if you arrive Saturday night. Salt Lake City downtown area by the hotel is pretty dead on the weekends, so you might be able to find free meter parking right next to the hotel if you are lucky. Otherwise, be lazy like me and just pony up the $9
