Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. If it wasn't for - the long drive there, the fog, the price, and who has all day anyway to play golf these days - I would be there every hour of every day. And I am not even that good at golf. My BF is patient with me, but I can see that he would rather be there with his buddies.
This is, simply put, the absolute best golf course I've ever played at. Of course, I can only do this twice a year, max, but every time I do, I take an oath to come here more often.
We stay at one of the hotels in Carmel, or sometimes rent a small place on the coast, but typically get in early, then have lunch on premises, then relax at night. Very very cool. Very very expensive, but worth every penny.

This is Pebble Beach - no one is going to give it a bad review. It's one of the premier golf courses in the United States and you can actually play here unlike Augusta. It's like having sex with Jennifer Aniston. She could be the worst sex partner in the world but you'd tell all your buddies it was fantastic.
I've played this course 13 times, yes you read that right, 13 times. Want to get really upset? I've never paid for greens fees. It's one of those "who you know" sort of things. Eat your heart out.
The course is amazing. Sure, for you suckers that actually pay it's expensive but for around $500 you're not going to get a better view than this. Not to mention that you're walking hallowed ground. This is Pebble Beach! When you go back home to Iowa your golf buddies will never be able to top this. It's worth the price.
Will you have the best round of your life? Probably not. You could play from the red tees and not do well. If you're into inflicting pain on yourself, tee up from the blues. Go on, I dare you!
After your round you must stop in the resort's restaurant and have lunch. The food is very good, the view is amazing and you might spot a celeb. or two. And, of course, don't forget to enjoy the view to and from the course!
The only way you could make this experience better is if you were in a twosome with Jennifer Aniston.

Green Fee is 495$ as of July 10, 2009. Add another couple hundred bucks for a caddie, 300$ for an outfit so you don't look like a fish out of water, 10 bucks to pass the gate to 17 mile dr, and since there are no McDonald's in the vicinity, another 100 bucks for lunch. I hate rich people.
With that said, I'm finally going to open a savings account because I have to play here before I die. I got to view a couple of holes, and mingle with some people, and now I want the full experience. How can anyone give this place less than 5 stars?
The best course I've ever played. I was actually nervous on several of the tee boxes. Great layout, amazing views and really tough. Bring your game and get a caddy.
A family friend used to work here and I'd tag along and drive the cart. I ran over one of the logs that are used to line the walking path. I think I was like 7 or 8 years old. Oops!
This is probably one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world!

Well, I finally kicked down the cash to play the #1 rated course in the United States. (Depending on what year it is.)
First, I feel the need to state the obvious, if you don't play golf, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU REVIEWING A GOLF COURSE??????
Phew...that's better.
Anyway, people have posted slopes, ratings, distances, etc. so there is no point in rehashing those. There's also really no point in talking about how incredible the views are, the condition of the course, the insanity of the back 9, etc. It's all been said and it's all true. This place is absolutely amazing.
My BIG tip of the day...I realize that caddies are an extra $75 base and you need to tip another $50 when you're done. For some people, the extra cost will be too much. However, you are completely out of your mind if you think you can walk onto this course and shoot a reasonable score without a caddie. Dig deep into your pocket and spend the extra money because it will absolutely be worth it.
I was 3 over going to the 8th hole. That's some of the best golf I've ever played. I ended up shooting a 90 only because I lost my composure on #8 and #14. However, I am 100% certain (or in the words of one of those ladies on Maury Povich who is trying to figure out which one of 10 guys is the father of her baby; 1,000,000% certain) that I would have shot well beyond 100 without the help of Ruben, my caddie. He had me playing shots in bizarre directions, odd club selections and green breaks that simply weren't visible to the uninformed. At one point, I was just under 100 yards off the green and he reaches into my bag for an 8-iron and tells me to hit it 130 yards. He was right. Pin high, 5 feet to the right.
If you're going to pay this much money to likely play a course one time in your entire life, you should have everything at your disposal to shoot your best score. Get a caddie. Enjoy your round...

Who can say anything bad about the Pebble Beach Golf Course? The only criticisms that come to mind involve my golf game and serious lack of talent.
I was in the first group to play one morning and was repeatedly reminded that the first group sets the day's pace. Yeah, thanks for reminding me. It's your fault you let me go first then! Pressure!
Besides having an unusually large group staring at me as I teed off, I got to feel the foreman's breath on my neck sporadically. Nevertheless, it was hard to get ticked off considering the view was out of this world! There was a little grumbling and a few mulligans, but overall a wonderful experience.
Post-game drinks on the balcony are a must!

Worth every single penny and everything that I thought it would be -- and more! The course was in great condition. It is a little nerve racking to have an audience when you tee off but I'm so thankful that my tee shot was MONEY and right down the middle! My second proudest moment was getting a par on the 18th! Suuhhhhhweeeeettt!
My only regret is we chose to not have a caddy. I think it would've been great to have been shown the way on a few holes and help you read the greens (they're TOUGH to read). In the end, I was happy with my final score of 101...and that was from the white tees. Pretty good for Pebble beach. ehh?
I really loved the course and I hope to play this course again in the future. By far, an experience of a lifetime.
I visited the Pebble Beach golf course for the first time last weekend for the Celebrity Pro Am Tour. I am neither a golf follower nor player. I came here strictly for the views and celebrity watching. Wow-o-wowee is this course beautiful. I have never seen views so spectacular (and I don't just mean Justin Timberlake's ass). I think I took more interest in the Ocean than I did on the game itself. I looked over at my mom at one point and said, "Mom, I know what I want for my birthday. I want a house on Pebble Beach." She said, "Chaaa, keep dreamin'." Waaaah

Horrible, terrible, over-rated.
Maybe that will keep a few people away :).
Looking my ball buried in tall grass between the cliff to the beach and the green on hole #10, I thought 2 things. 1. If not for the grass, my ball would have gone down the cliff to the rocky beach below, and 2. how the hell was I going to hit out of this stuff.
The caddy looked down and said "Mr H. you have two choices. You can pick up your ball, take a stroke penalty, and drop in onto the short grass no closer to the pin. Or you can take your sand wedge, take a full swing at the ball, and THEN pick it up and take your penalty when you realize the ball is not moving from there."
Hell, I'm at Pebble. What would Arnie do? I took the swing, the ball moved 4 inches (maybe). Then I took the Caddy's advice and the stroke penalty, smiling the whole time. That's the Pebble experience.
This is a golf course that any true golfer should play at least once. The others being St Andrews Old Course and TPC Sawgrass (IMHO). It is one of the best and one of the most beautiful courses in the US. Plus there is so much history here. Especially with the Crosby (now AT&T) being played here all these years.
The layout is great, the way a golf course is meant to be. No gimmicks such as silly tee boxes 200 ft higher than the green, vineyards running through the course, etc.
I have played here a couple of times. One more piece of advice - get a caddie, well worth the money and the experience. Let's face it, if you are shelling out $475 to play there (it was $375 the last time I played), you might as well go whole hog. Get the caddie, he will cut several strokes off your score, carry your bag for you, and even tell a few stories.
It's not the longest course around. It's not the toughest. It doesn't have the most holes on the ocean. It's just simply the best.
You can't know it until you are there - sort of like Yelpitude.
I have also seen several tournaments there - AT&T a couple of times, and a couple of US Opens. Great place to walk and watch. Sit by the 8th green and watch the pros try to hit the small green from the top of the facing bluff with a 20 mph wind - it's a cross wind, now the wind is at their back, oops it is a cross wind again. Play an impromptu "skins" game with they person next to you. Pick who will hit the green and if no-one hits it, carry it over to the next group. You might win $75. Not that I did, because gambling is illegal.
I debated over giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Why?
- $475 per round - give me a break
- and that's if you can even get on
But in the end, the awe of Pebble won me over and I gave it the full 5 stars.
Black Rating (US Open Championship): 74.3/Slope 144; Yardage - 6,828
Blue Rating: 73.8/Slope 142; Yardage - 6,737
Gold Rating: 72.3/Slope 137; Yardage - 6,348
White Rating: 71.2/Slope 134; Yardage - 6,116
Red Rating: 71.9/Slope 130; Yardage - 5,198

Golf Heaven! I've had the priviledge to play it twice. I did the stay and play deal so I could get a reserved t-time. Both times, I took off early in the morning with the same caddy. Fantastic experience.
There is so much history at Pebble. I asked the caddy to double duty as caddy and tour guide. 8th hole is the hole that Jack N. wants to play one last time as his final hole when he hangs up his bag. I think #7 is the 120 yard par 3 that plays from a wedge to a 3 iron, depending on the wind. Sam Snead once putted his t-shot down the car path, took relief, chipped on and parred - one of the few to par during the tourney. The guy who developed the MRI owns two mansions right on the course. He lives in the one up the hill, then bought the one below, so noone could add a 2nd floor and block his view.
18th hole is incredible.
The best 4 hours of my life. It has always been my dream to play Pebble. I finally made it happen last year after months and months of saving some serious dough.
I will never forget the jitters I felt on the first tee. To be in the same course that all the greats have played and to finally fulfill one of my dreams was surreal. I will never forget hole #2. Par 5 = hit a perfect drive, positioned for a 100 yard third, struck a wedge perfectly leaving myself a 4 footer. Sunk the putt. Birdie bitches!!! Best feeling in the planet.
I spent the rest of my round soaking in all I can. I can still do a play by play of every stroke I made that day as if it was yesterday. I remember every detail. I remember getting sad as we made the turn. I never wanted this day to end.
Favorite holes have to be:
# 6 - par five uphill with a blind second shot
# 7 - signature hole - how can anyone forget?
# 3 - tricky dog left leg leading you into the ocean
# 17 - par 3 with the Pacific in the back
# 18 - best finishing hole with the Pacific all along the left
This place offers excellent service as well. The Pro Shop and the attendants make you feel like a KING. They even offer you shuttle service to the driving range as there isn't one on Pebble Beach property. Oh most importantly, the course was in immaculate condition. Fast green and pristine fairways.
FYI - if you are on the practice putting green, tell all your buddies to log on the website and you can wave hello on the live feed cam. :-)
I would definitely love to come back. I have to save major chips since I promised the old man he's coming next time. It was worth every dollar I spent. The memories alone were priceless.

Absolutely THE BEST public golf course in the United States! A mecca for the golfing enthusiast. All who love the game of golf (from weekend hackers to scratch players) must make a pilgrimage to this course at least once before they die. It is the St. Andrews of the United States.
Playing this course is nothing short of sublime. Its natural beauty is absolutely breath-taking. It is nestled right along the Pacific Coast. Its history is awe-inspiring. As you play the course, you inevitably are reminded of the U.S. Opens that have been held there (think Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, and Tiger Woods) and the many Pro-Ams that have been held there (think Bing Crosby and Jack Lemmon).
The 17th and the 18th holes are absolutely unforgettable. On the Par 3 17th, as you soak in the sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, you naturally think of Tom Watson's chip-in at the 1982 U.S. Open. On the Par 5 18th, as you wrap up your round, you think of all the champions who have walked that fairway before you.
I played this course some 16 years ago, and I can still remember how it felt to play it!

Worth every penny. The conditions aren't great for the $500 green fees because it gets so much traffic. But overall great experience. Hire a caddy, worth the extra money to help you read the greens.
We stayed here for a week during the bay area coffee company tournament. We stayed on the 7th hole. There were beautiful sunsets and the kids could play on the grass at sunset. It was an unforgetable stay. I cant wait to go back.

Wow... is this THE "Pebble Beach" golf course review? There are only 2 yelps for this worldly known golf course? Hmm... Anyhow it seems to be other 2 reviews were yelped by 2 people who had actually golfed there... However I am not a golfer and I am not that interested in playing golf at the moment. I just happened to be there to watch the "First Tee Open at Pebble Beach" so here is my review on Pebble Beach... from a non-golfer's view.
First of all, I hate getting up early in the morning, especially on the weekends. And it seems to be that if you want to play golf, you will have to get up early in the morning to get to the course to get a cheaper price or just to play, period. We were going down to see a tournament, and there are something called "tee time"... I had no idea. I knew 101 South to get to Monterey would be somewhat a long drive but I forgot that it would be a drive from HELL on the Labor Day weekend... yes, it took us 2 hours and 25 minutes and it was stressful trying to get there by 12:30, which was the first tee of the day. We totally missed it but oh well, we had 4 hours or so to watch some people hit the tiny little white balls around.
Again, I am not a golfer... and every time my golf fanatic friends or friends' husbands/boyfriends talk about this fantastic Pebble Beach golf course, I was thinking to myself "oh jeez, I'd rather be at Valley Fair mall, fighting the crowds (which I hate) and shop all day." Plus watching someone else play golf would be like a vegetarian going to a steak house watching people eating a cow. Not too exciting! But I got at the Pebble Beach after going though the 17 mile drive (which will cost you something like $9) and saw the view... oh my gosh.... it totally changed my viewpoint of Pebble Beach. I now understand why every golfer (or most of them) would want to come here to play at least once in their golf lifetime. The perfectly cut, shiny green grass, which probably is getting more attention and care than my hair, nice ocean breeze and beautiful view of the Monterey Bay and the Sun.... It was just so amazingly mesmerizing.
The scenery and the sweet air totally made me hungry so we decided to get something to eat at the small kiosk set up between the holes (probably it was just for the event?). Choices were scarce but when I saw the $10 hotdog, which was the cheaper item in the menu (not to mention the $30 Cohiba) I remembered that I was at Pebble Beach, not at the A's stadium. We didn't stop at the Club house for drink or food, but outside seating at the Club house overlooks the 18th hole and this scenic ocean view, which must be very pretty and romantic at the sun set. I would come back here again for the scenery for sure.
However I still don't get those million dollar houses in the midst of the golf course (what's the point of having a home where potentially getting hit by a high speed golf balls when you are relaxing at the backyard BBQing?) and those Canada geese that were hanging around between 17th and 18th hall. I mean, come on! This is not the Los Gatos Creek Trail Park that your only potential hazard is the kind bikers/runners and occasional dogs running loose. But they are too, taking their chances of getting hit by those golf balls so I guess they are living a truly "wild life" in a sense.

What can you say...It's PEBBLE BEACH! Short of playing Augusta National (good luck!), this is THE place that all golfers yearn to play. How can you not give it 5 stars? I had the once in a lifetime pleasure of playing this beautiful course recently. Simply amazing! I wanted to enjoy the experience so I purposely didn't track my score and just took in the surroundings as i played each hole. Words really can't do this place justice, you have to come out and experience it for yourself. There are majestic cliffs overlooking the ocean, beautiful lush greens and the staff treat you like royalty. It's a pretty surreal experience as you play each hole as you've most like watched the pros master this course through the years. Not sure if I would ever pay the full-price for a tee time (my good friend who works here hooked me up), but would love to have the opportunity to go back! Definitely the experience of a lifetime that I'll cherish forever!
